    â„č About the episode:
We were eager to try out the Class B Van Lifestyle. We rented this Winnebago Travato 59k and took a trip from Pheonix to Prescott to Payson for a stand-up paddleboard trip. Although we had an "issue" with the blank tank in the previous episode, we really enjoyed this Class B trip. In this episode, we give a tour and review.

Thank you for your review of the 59k. As a 59 k owner you were right about so many things. We love our 59K. The shorter bed holds and enormous amount of things. I have 2 chairs, 2 tables, 2 step stools, 2 sets of hiking poles, extra toilet paper, 2 sets of high top hiking sneakers, 1 huge outdoor rug, 1 small rug, 1 bag full of candle lanterns and a few more little extras. We bought this rv so that we could go anywhere without limitations. We are big foodies and love eating our way across the states. The one thing that has helped me are collapsible products that i have purchased on amazon or Marshall’s. They were a game changers as it allows you to bring even more stuff. The frig looks small but holds 9 days worth of food. Once you personalize your rv you are able to have all the comforts of home. We pull into a campground only to sleep as we are busy exploring the area. It’s great having your own kitchen and bathroom during those times. We rented 3 rv’s before we made our final decision. We rented a travato 59k and 59 g. We also rented a 2015 unity Mb from leisure travel to make sure we were not making a mistake in the layout and rv. You have to figure out what your needs are. Yes, its very small but the travato 59 k is “mighty” in what she can do.

I love my 2019 Travato 59G. Go everywhere, park anywhere. 5 minutes to set up and take down. It has a dedicated bed and a separate dining table so no reconfiguration. Huge refriGerator and separate freeze which freezes ice cream! Table also folds to make another bed.

We love our 59K! Just celebrated our One year Vannaversary! It is amazing how creative you can be when packing what you need. We have boondocked and stayed in state park campgrounds and travel with our golden retriever! Gas mileage is great and the 59K has everything we need to enjoy biking, hiking, concerts and checking out little towns across the US!

For those who are having issues with their tank sensors. I found that if you dump ice down into your tanks and drive around a bit it tends to clean the sensors. It worked great for me.

We have a Lance cabover camper. We LOVE it!!! We can road trip and boondock ANYWHERE. Parking lots at truck stops, Cracker Barrel. Walmart, etc. We just went to our local National Park for 2 nights. Due to Covid, camping spaces are very limited. We had to MOVE each night because you can only reserve 1 night per site. Crazy now! Anyway, night 2 site was on a hill and not so pretty. We showered, dumped graywater using our tote at restroom, then moved to overflow parking RIGHT NEXT to the river!! My husband went fishing while I primped up and cooked breakfast. There is NO WAY you could have done that with a large RV or trailer. We park ANYWHERE we want. We're only 7ft wide, not 8ft, which makes a world of difference. I don't see many truck campers anywhere. They're awesome! When we get home we off load the camper with a remote control for the jacks, SIMPLE!! Then my husband has his truck for work, we're self employed. Lance makes a quality RV!!

You hit the nail on the head for the Class B type of user. We have a Winnebago Revel and sought out this kind of camper van/RV. We are primarily backpackers and saw this as the perfect trailhead vehicle - we have everything with us plus the comfort amenities. Previously, we used our Outback and a tent. As we age - this is a step up.

Vans are the best, in my opinion. We can go anywhere, park anywhere, and be stealth if we need to be. Don't need to "set-up" as we are always easily ready. Plug in, if we want to use the gen if we want to. Solar can keep us going for quite a while. Thanks for showing us the new Travato, it was on our short list, but decided on the Coachmen Beyond.

With my EX, I had a 40' bus pusher...then a towable tent trailer behind my Goldwing. Since I'm SF my current consideration has been travel safety. My choice is a 30' class A, easy to drive, everything I need, I can park...assess my surroundings before exiting the vehicle. I have a TOAD which I had a battery disconnect installed, it can't be driven off. I can wait until I feel safe before I go out to set up. Solo females need to think about safety more than expense when they are making their decisions. Enjoy your videos...pros and cons of different units!

We purchased a PleasureWay Class B a couple of years ago after years of tenting and trailers. I’ve found anecdotally that the largest market for Class Bs that are upfitted by the major vendors are baby boomers that are retiring, many of whom have never owned any kind of RV. I really don’t think the average middle aged adventure seeker is going to drop north of $100k on a new Travato, PleasureWay, Leisure Travel, etc. But that does make the used market for Class Bs really hot now. They seem to sell within days of posting the ads.

Hubby built rack on the top back and put the solar panel over the top on a hinge. Put a spare tire up there too. Great back door mount bike rack available. 1000 watt inverter on non lithium models. Bath sink drains into black tank so we hardly use it. It is a great makeup shelf tho!

The best part of having the separable towable from the tow vehicle is: (opinion only), leaving your trailer set up, take your tow machine out to explore the local areas, pick up that marg.-mix, etc.. I do admit, having our small car on a tow-dolly, served that purpose also, (when pulled behind the class “A” M.H.). The tow dolly is a pain, if ever needing to back up very far. Thanks for reminding me of all the RV adventures over many years. 👍 😊

We enjoy your videos and have especially enjoyed the series on motorized RV’s. We have camped for many years starting with a home built camper in the back of a pickup truck. We the progressed through a couple of pop-up campers, a hybrid, and then a 25’ travel trailer. We recently purchased a Pleasure Way class B. I have MS and have great difficulty in walking and the TT with it’s hitch, weight distribution, sway control, and leveling just got to be too much and I couldn’t stand to watch my wife try to do it all. We found the class B and love it. My wife sells things on-line and we spend allot of time shopping for her inventory. We have our bathroom and refrigerator with us at all times and can park in any parking space. With the solar and lithium battery pack we can run everything but the A/C unit on battery power including the induction cooktop and microwave. If A/C is needed and we have no hookups we can start the generator. For an overnight stop we usually don’t hook up anything unless A/C is needed and then just plug in. As you stated it is not for everyone but for us a class B is perfect and is allowing us to do things and go places that otherwise would not be possible. Space is tight, especially since I carry a folding handicap scooter which takes up most of the main storage area under the rear folding sofa. We just need to be careful about what we try to pack. Not for everyone but it sure works for us.

Great review! My husband and I specially appreciated your comments on how important it is to know what you plan to do when you are using the RV in order to select the right RV for your needs. We have had a class C for about a year, and it has been perfect for our needs. We are using it for long weekend as well as one or two week trips. We love being able to just pull up to our site, level, let the slide out and plug in. Takes about 10 minutes. Love the kitchen, fridge is good size, murphy bed is easy to put up and down, etc. Has plenty of space for the inevitable rainy days when we play board games rather than site seeing. So for us, it really works.
Regarding the incident of horror that shall never be mentioned, well hmm. Suggest adding "pre-trip black tank dump and flush" to the punch list. I know this isn't the way any one wants to start their trip out, but better to make sure there aren't any issues before you head out of town. As RV owners rather than renters, we do a black tank flush every time we dump which helps prevent any kind of issues (keeps the sensors clean, etc.). Yes, this does take an extra 5 or 10 minutes, but prevents a lot of issues in the long run, and there is some satisfaction from seeing perfectly clear water coming through the clear elbow.

I am getting a little too old for the campervan lifestyle (I shall be 80 next year) but I did appreciate one thing you reviewed in your look at the Winnebago. The long, full length, for a 6 foot man, couch with a raising head rest is ideal for that nifty daytime kip. It also looked like a really comfortable bed for a weary RVer. I do however appreciate more the space in our 33 foot Gulf Stream Conquest. Also the ease with which this smaller RV can be used to commute to the shops and stores is a great benefit compared with our Jeep jolly boat trailing behind. I’m not a fan of manufactured class Bs but I do love the self builds I’ve seen having full sized elevated beds in an East/West positioning. In that configuration you have a basement that affords quite a bit of storage including carrying bikes. Nature head commodes and bigger freshwater tanks along with solar and you can dry camp longer and many full time in these vans. It has been my dream for years. That is until I started watching you guys now I want both dreams. Love the changes to the cabin! Bob is a perfect addition.

Great review, you hit the nail on head that the best thing about class B's is it is stress free. You have EVERYTHING with you all the time. We would rather spend an extra 5 minutes making a bed than trying to guess everything we may need for the day.

We’ve had a Winnebago Vectra 40KD for 15 years and finally today, made a deal for a Travato 59K. You guys nailed it. We are hikers, bikers and backpackers and want to be off grid at at a trailhead.
    We are beyond excited.
We’ve recently begun backpacking and tent camping and getting ready to do a transcontinental bike ride using the Travato as a sag wagon. Simplify and minimize!
Thanks for a great confirming video.

  • @Endless_Skyway_Adventures

Every form of camping can be distilled to how much comfort vs how much mobility at what cost.
We sold our 26 ft travel trailer once we built a self built camper van, we are currently adding a 6X12TA cargo trailer conversion for stand up space. 36 feet long but articulated at the midpoint so it remains very nimble. I certainly appreciate the other forms both larger and smaller but our setup is intended for cross country national park adventures with the ability to drop half of the rig at a campground with the mobility of an 18 ft cargo van. The self built part is both budgetary, and part of the adventure. It is very satisfying to travel in something you built yourself. Thank you for showing the difference between many other ways to camp.

We very much agree with the collapsible laundry basket recommendation at the end. We bought two of them a year ago based upon the recommendations of your laundry day video, and have been very pleased. Not only do they work as laundry hampers, but also as grocery transfer, folded clothes storage, temporary misc household goods storage and transfer. We have also found them great to hide a small grandchild in for playing hide and seek in the 5th wheel. Then they fold down next to nothing for storage (take the grandchild out first). Thank you!

    I bought the 59 K in 2017.
Full-time for 4 1/2 years. I could not imagine being in anything else.During any kind of weather event, I can enter through the rear right onto the shower pan. I can hang up my gear to dry. Done. Shower area has its own fan and heating vent ( vent is located next toToilet which ends up heating it.)
The main cabin never has to be exposed to any kind of moisture. From the shower or weather.

Great review of drivable RVs. I've not seen what's coming up next but having the best of both worlds... Mark you say you're a truck guy, have you looked into a truck camper? We already had a truck large enough to tow our fifth wheel and ventured out picking a truck camper for shorter trips when we want to "park at a trail head" or tow our boat or go atving. Owning both has given us the ability to do that and we don't need a large toy hauler. A truck camper does require one to be more agile as there is climbing stairs and climbing into bed but very little set up and tear down. There is also the ability to unload the truck camper to use as a base camp. We still have our 30' fifth wheel for family camping and extended stays.

Also, I think you really hit the nail on the head regarding who a class B is perfect for. We insanely love ours. We do events (dance, run, bike, etc), and also love the solitude of dispersed camping all alone for hiking.

Any rig is a mess to live in at first until you get your muscle memory for moving around in it. Also all the tweets you need to do to make it truly livable. I almost broke my toes several times because the step up to the cockpit was about 3 inches high compared to no stepup in my old rig. Also the step up platform under the dinette was slightly higher Tham my old rig. Finally my legs remembered the new movements and I got all the hooks, lights storage etc. twerked and I stopped hating the new rig.

Yes! You nailed it. Winnebago does use Marine cushions that give you that breathable airflow. They come up with designs based off customers. We were the "future" or as my husband said, "the hot chick" when we rented the Winnebago Revel. Everywhere we went people approached us, asked questions and took a selfie. It was a fun ride! If it were just the two of us we would have bought a REVEL. We have a 10 yr old and dog too. We needed a little more room so we went with, and LoVe, the 2021 Winnebago View 24V. Happy trails everyone... see you all out there xoxoxo

I have a 2022 59KL. The K & L denote the two different floor plans. K = two single beds. G = single rear bed (About the size of a full mattress. L = denotes the van is equipped with Lithium Batteries. No "L" means regular Lead batteries. Those "Floating Pillows" when used with the table and those bars you showed in the storage area under the mattress turn the two singles into one large bed roughly measuring 72" wide x 80" long (on the passenger side at least. (I paused the video while I commented, then I resumed the video and you discovered the full bed option. LOL). DO NOT CLIMB ON THE LADDER WHEN DOOR MOUNTED? It is only for storing during transport. The ladder is designed to be used on the driver side of the van only. The single bolt at the bottom of the ladder will bend making it difficult to remove and replace the ladder. I learned this the hard way.

I think the biggest thing that shocked me about the difference between the 3 that you guys rented was when doing research about which type I wanted to buy the number 1 stark difference was price. Class A's where I live(for a used one ran about 50k) even nice ones. Class C's were between 40-90k(used) and Class B's the smallest were well over 100k used! We ended up with a Class C and while I would say the A's seem way nicer to drive, they also seem too long for me to drive by myself. I'm with Trish that I would be too afraid. We ended up with a 25 foot which was the best of all worlds for us. Short enough for me to drive it, sleeps up to 6, but also great for just my son and I. Thank you guys for all the amazing info you give us!

As always, a very informative video. We've had pop-up campers, cabin tents (after the pop up = more room in the cabin tent with 4 kids), 2 5th wheels, and 2 trailers. Your comment about know your mission so you can get the right RV for you is spot on. We're now looking at getting a truck camper (Host Yukon) and down sizing from our 41' 5th wheel. Kids are all grown up and gone, and like a van, a truck camper can park anywhere. A big truck camper (like a Host Yukon) must put it's slides out to function inside it (not so with a van), so like everything in RVing, like you said you need to know your mission and what your willing to compromise for and then get the RV that fits what you want to do. We want to go to remote places our 5th wheel just can't get to so a truck camper is in our future plans.

Sandra Westley from the UK I couldn’t agree more, I hate the solitude places be bored ridged, I don’t like loads of people over busy, but I enjoy people watching and speaking to people and just watching life. I would hate absolutely hate to boondock, in the middle of no where with nobody around I just wouldn’t sleep or feel safe. I prefer to pay for good facilities on site, like when we have been travelling through France or Spain we like 5 star sites with lovely pools. Everyone to there own.

Totally agree with your assessment. Lived full-time in my Travato GL for just over a year. Was great for moving around and getting to trail heads and staying out of campgrounds. Was also good for street camping in a lot of urban settings. But if I'd continued to full-time I would have wanted something bigger, likely a towable so I could slow down my travels. At the end of the day living in a van feels like living in a van no matter how many windows it has. Next time you want a Travato you should rent mine, I include all the touches of "home" that I use personally. Makes for a much nicer renter experience. 😀

I would highly recommend anyone thinking of buying a Class B, to also try a small Class C ( 22-25 ft). You can park both practically anywhere, but you get a real bathroom and more living/storage space. Also, if a small Class C on Ford or Chevy chassis, significantly less costly. Ask Matt! Again, great review, thanks.
