Das Stadtgebiet von Neuchâtel (dt. Neuenburg; 479 m ü. M.) fügt sich an die Hänge des Chaumont (1'171 m ü. M.) am Ufer des Lac de Neuchâtel (dt. Neuenburgersee). Von der Hauptstadt des Kantons Neuenburg führt eine Standseilbahn auf diesen vordersten Jurarücken. Mitten in der Altstadt, auf dem Schlosshügel, thront die Collégiale (dt. Kollegiatskirche). Die dreischiffige gotische Basilika stammt aus dem Mittelalter. Gleich daneben liegt das Château, dem die Stadt zu seinen Füssen seinen Namen verdankt. Das Schloss beherbergt heute unter anderem den kantonalen Regierungsrat.

Neuchâtel's (German: Neuenburg; 479 m above sea level) urban area lies nestled against the slopes of the Chaumont (1,171 m above sea level) at the shore of Lake Neuchâtel (German: Neuenburgersee, French: Lac de Neuchâtel). A funicular runs from the capital of the canton of Neuchâtel to this foremost Jura ridge. The Collégiale (collegiate church) sits enthroned on the castle hill right in the center of the old town. The three-aisled Gothic basilica dates back to the Middle Ages. Next to it lies the Château which gave the city at its feet its name. Today, the castle houses among others the cantonal government.
