Ganz in der Nähe eines einzigartigen Naturschutzgebietes am Hallwilersee befindet sich das Schloss Hallwyl (in der Gemeinde Seengen). Im späten 12. Jh. erbauten die Herren von Hallwyl einen Wohnturm. Im 14. Jh. erfolgte der Ausbau zu einer wehrhaften Wasserburg. Sie wurde nach Bränden wieder auf- und ausgebaut. Burkhard III. von Hallwyl baute schliesslich die Burg zwischen 1578 und 1590 zu einem spätgotischen Wohnschloss um. Wilhelmina von Hallwyl gründete 1925 die Hallwil-Stiftung und das Schloss wurde für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich. Seit 1994 ist es im Besitz des Kantons Aargau.
Das Schloss Hallwyl gilt als eines der bedeutendsten Wasserschlösser der Schweiz. Die wechselnden Ausstellungen im Schloss geben einen interessanten Einblick in das Leben der Aargauer Adelsfamilie und ihrer Untertanen im Seetal.

Close to an exceptional nature reserve at Lake Hallwil lies Hallwyl Castle (in the municipality of Seengen). The Lords of Hallwyl built a residential tower in the late 12th century. In the 14th century, it was enlarged and became a well-fortified moated castle. It was rebuilt and enlarged after several fires. Between 1578 and 1590, Burkhard III. of Hallwyl finally converted the castle to a late-Gothic residential palace. In 1925, Wilhelmina of Hallwyl initiated the Hallwil foundation, and the castle opened its doors to the public. Since 1994, it has been in the possession of the canton of Aargau.
Hallwyl Castle is considered one of the most important moated castles in Switzerland. The temporary exhibitions in the castle provide interesting insight into the life of the Aargau noble family and their subjects in the Seetal valley.
