      They stall with the "advancement" to USB... which has been around for years.. .so they can charge a bunch of money extra for something they could have easily changed this year. With the new iPhone they charge a ridiculous amount of money for USB 4.0 data cable, effectively also breaking USB standard by adding their own propriety stuff, so they can swindle their customers.

      They just want the SSD to wear out more quickly by swap trashing it, so you buy a new one in a few years. I think anything below 24G RAM hits the SSD pretty hard, and probably SSDs below 1TB don't have a lot of cells for wear leveling to work efficiently.

    I can't believe Apple went the extra mile to remove a port: moving the SD card slot closer to the HDMI port instead of leaving the space blank… and only imagine if USB could share a bus, so you could have the same amount of ports, just with a lesser top bandwidth 🙃
    And this thing about supporting a single monitor… someone should show them the PowerMac line, maybe they need to go back a little, just maybe…

      Single monitor limitation is baffling at this point. We forgive them on M1 since its new architecture. M2 got some on higher end SoC so there was hope that will trickle down on base M chips. M3 still having limitation is ridiculous at this point, this is truly intentional now.

    • @Mister0Eel
      @Mister0Eel Před 6 měsíci +3

      I agree on the monitor thing, as for the usb port, while yes usb can share a bus, I do respect them for guaranteeing max performance on all ports at the same time, though they could have done one port on either side..

    Base price may have remained the same but:
    1) AppleCare+ has gone up from 399 to 429€ (for the same chassis & basically the same configuration of internals)
    2) Getting upper tier SoCs is more expensive than before. Example: M2 Max MBP with 30gpu cores & 2TB SSD cost 4500€. M3 Max MBP with 30gpu cores & 2TB SSD now costs 4850€. Oh, right, there’s 4GB of unified memory included 😂
    3) The M3 Pro chip is either on par or a downgrade from the M2 Pro (memory bandwidth 150 vs 200 gbps), the binned M3 Max has less bandwidth than the binned M2 Max…
    This is so frustrating from a user and customer’s perspective. It looks like this event was made for shareholders, and purely for profit, nothing else.

    8Gb RAM was hiding a major price hike, on top of previous massive price hikes, on top of previous massive price hikes.
    Apple's primary reason to get on M chips and away from the generic Intel chips was so it could charge what it wants. Long battery life was a side product of that.
    They soldered that into place along with the SSDs, the RAM and the chips that prevent swapping parts from even the exact same model.
    Apple's marketing department's sole job is to work out specs that downgrade or cripple otherwise excellent products so they can force their customers into more expensive options and leave open the lazy option for future "upgrades" where they painfully, slowly, some time in the far future, remove the crappy specs eventually...

      the base macbook air M2 was damn expensive to start with , the difference to the first M1 MBA with the old chasi was huge.. for now, Im good with the M1, still serves me right, but I do give them the battery and performance, the one I bought can still last a day without charging with moderate use.. I think this is one selling point of their devices.. but man I just cant justify it with today's M3

      I’d say the Mac Mini is very competitively priced…I think we are suffering from poor laptop prices specifically because there is basically no good competition due to how bad windows standby battery management is.

    • @VAKZ23
      @VAKZ23 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@Austin-ey8dx the mac mini indeed is competitive in price but if were gonna compare these machines from apple since the M1, connecting them to an external power serves no advantage so just get an MBA or MBP and eventually invest on a good monitor.. its just that these prices were getting ridiculously expensive because nothing in windows can compete to apples arm power efficiency..

    Also how much Apple ( and other OEMs) charges for different non-upgradable SSD storage options. Yea those SSD are fast but they are not extra $300 fast! Also starting at 512 GB Storage is seriously a crime, especially for PRO models. But yea all this are part of the design to get you hooked on iCloud or ''just'' spend another $300 more for a higher model.

    I have an M2 13in MBP. I got it for the larger battery than what is available in the macbook air and the basic heatsink in the old 13in which allows me to hit the cpu harder, longer without throttling. I only rarely need to hammer the cpu, I'm mostly interested in the insane battery life thanks to the larger battery. The new 14in with base M3 is very interesting. Same price as my current M2 13in MBP but with more ports and XDR screen?! Awesome. Wish it was an option a year ago.

    Hi! Wonderful video. I was wondering if you could make a video about if the m2 mba is even worth it. When we add 512gb storage and 10 gpu cores to the prices, the regular m3 mbp is only 200 usd extra. And for that price you get: a larger and better screen, more battery life, more ports, a fan, and a newer chip. And if I recall correctly, the mbp isn't much thicker than the mba.

    Something just occurred to me about Apple’s release strategy regarding these M3 processors…
    I wonder if Apple are looking to do something similar to the MacBook Air/Pro lineup as they did with the iPhones - keep the Air lineup a generation behind the Pro models?
    I think it would make sense from a business standpoint - it would allow Apple to make a greater differentiation between the baseline MacBook Pro (the 13inch models were kind of a joke, let’s be honest) and the MacBook Air models, if the only way to get the latest and greatest chipset is to go with the Pro.

Like when they took the charger out of the box (didn't drop the price) because they said we already had them at home, but then included a cable with USB-C on the other end. At the time, all of the chargers that they said we had at home had USB-A on them. How can you call it a pro with only 8GB of ram? Still only one external display?

    The M3 Pro has 18 GB of memory. Price is 2549 EUR (VAT included).
    It's the regular M3 that has 8 GB of RAM. Which, in itself, is enough for a lot of people (watching movies in browser, sometimes working inside a browser as well, so eliminating a lot of on-device requirements).
    The M3 costs 2029 EUR. It's not a bad deal, but is intended for a niche category of people.
    However, the M3 Pro with 18 GB of memory is the same price (just adjusted for inflation) as the M1 Pr (was 2450 EUR) and M2 Pro.
    Tho I always encourage people to find a sealed M1 Pro model because it's probably way less expensive now and still runs fantastically well. And the screen is the same as on the newest ones so there is no loss in there. It truly is a great machine.
    Mine is about 18 months old now and it's still as fresh and snappy as on the first day i had it.
