That’s not possible though, even if they wanted to. The amount of safety and technology equipment that is mandatory now makes the cheap price of cars in the 90s impossible to have now

I disagree, nobody buys *expensive* sports cars. Cars are too expensive for all the wrong reasons. Don't give me apple car play and a touchscreen with some voice assistant. Give me solid engineering beauty.
Who can afford it? The car, the title and taxes, the maintenance, the insurance… at this point if I want to go fast, I’ll just go to the amusement park.
One of the big reason I haven’t bought a new sports car is the massive price gouging by dealers in the last few years. They want to put thousands of dollars in mark ups on a Corolla GR, and it goes the same for these.
Bring back base trim! Not everyone needs all the luxury standardized "base" equipment in new cars such as power doors, power seats, touch screens in the car, stereo systems (just leave the cutouts so the customers can buy & install themselves), power windows, multiple charging ports, a back-up camera, lane assist, the alloy wheels, power side mirrors, hell why not even ask if we should make A/C optional

A possibility is that people who can afford high end sports cars are probably not interested in buying them opposed to a luxury suv or something. If companies want to sell more sports cars it could be wise to appeal to younger buyers with less money, kinda like the gr86.
Maybe you guys could do some of these shorts for your older episodes like the George best one where James was talking about lowering a carriage and getting a mini horse.
15k - 20k sports car... im sold... not 60 or more. I don't need heated and cooled seats, a heated steering wheel, or powered seats. Give me something cheap with power and good handling and I'm happy.
The simpler answer is, the salary vs car price gap expanded, with the job i have, lets say my parents would've gotten a House an ATV each a Snowmobile each and sports fun car on the weekend on the top of a regular car each. I can afford a house, and a couple shitter if i want to be comfortable and put money aside
Yeah... I'm one of the Gen z enthusiasts and let me tell you, most of the enthusiasts nowadays aren't looking for tech, we still care about how the car drives and feels. We also can't afford the new sports cars lmao. Average price for a car is 44k, that's more than what most gen zers are making in a year right now.
Maybe the car has changed the mindset. The words "sports" and "enthusiast" described parts of a car culture that has been made obsolete by new tech. Part of the culture was working on cars and playing/competing with cars, and new cars just don't seem to cater to that anymore.
The automobile has changed to retro builds. Fortunes are poured into custom one of a kind retromods and perfect factory authentic restorations and everything in between. There are more 70 Chevelle SS cars than GM even made😂. And I totally get off watching Barrett Jackson auctions too.
Yeah I mean when’s the last time you considered buying a NEW car? Back in the day a married guy with two kids was justifying buying a sports car. Unless you are making 150k a year, buying a new car is so far off your radar. I agree with your point, but from the perspective that most car people just have to sit on the sidelines because they don’t have enough wallet to influence the brand

because we can't afford them. and all the sports are way too fast and you pay for that speed in both the car's up front price as well as insurance. People need to stop looking at spec sheets and just make slow & fun cars again.

Today's sports cars are pretty expensive tbh..
nissan acts like its dwendling but they suck for not making them affordable. dont blame us Nissan
BRZ/86 or mx 5 come to mind for fun cars on the cheaper side

It's because the car enthusiast mindset changed since then.
Now the average is more about technology than engine capabilities or how the car drives.

Yeah sports cars didn't used to be nearly as expensive. Neither was housing, more people just had leftover money in general
The cheap ones are everywhere and I live where it snows 80% of the year. It's cause we have no money lol.
