      @@intensityintencities2525the problem is themselves, the used market is still too strong and the aftermarket keeps older offerings like the 180sx and such alive. Even things like the 400z, have go fight against the value of the 370z, and I’m sure someone is cross shopping one against a 350z + mods. It’s sort of why the German offerings are still selling well, because those sorts of cars are a better ownership experience new, being fast out of the gate and historically being problematic as they age.

    One of the big reason I haven’t bought a new sports car is the massive price gouging by dealers in the last few years. They want to put thousands of dollars in mark ups on a Corolla GR, and it goes the same for these.

    Bring back base trim! Not everyone needs all the luxury standardized "base" equipment in new cars such as power doors, power seats, touch screens in the car, stereo systems (just leave the cutouts so the customers can buy & install themselves), power windows, multiple charging ports, a back-up camera, lane assist, the alloy wheels, power side mirrors, hell why not even ask if we should make A/C optional

    A possibility is that people who can afford high end sports cars are probably not interested in buying them opposed to a luxury suv or something. If companies want to sell more sports cars it could be wise to appeal to younger buyers with less money, kinda like the gr86.

    The simpler answer is, the salary vs car price gap expanded, with the job i have, lets say my parents would've gotten a House an ATV each a Snowmobile each and sports fun car on the weekend on the top of a regular car each.

    Now the average is more about technology than engine capabilities or how the car drives.

      Yeah... I'm one of the Gen z enthusiasts and let me tell you, most of the enthusiasts nowadays aren't looking for tech, we still care about how the car drives and feels. We also can't afford the new sports cars lmao. Average price for a car is 44k, that's more than what most gen zers are making in a year right now.

    • @SynthiaVan
      @SynthiaVan Před měsícem

      Maybe the car has changed the mindset. The words "sports" and "enthusiast" described parts of a car culture that has been made obsolete by new tech. Part of the culture was working on cars and playing/competing with cars, and new cars just don't seem to cater to that anymore.

    The automobile has changed to retro builds. Fortunes are poured into custom one of a kind retromods and perfect factory authentic restorations and everything in between. There are more 70 Chevelle SS cars than GM even made😂. And I totally get off watching Barrett Jackson auctions too.

    Yeah I mean when’s the last time you considered buying a NEW car? Back in the day a married guy with two kids was justifying buying a sports car. Unless you are making 150k a year, buying a new car is so far off your radar. I agree with your point, but from the perspective that most car people just have to sit on the sidelines because they don’t have enough wallet to influence the brand

  • @SynthiaVan
    @SynthiaVan Před měsícem

    Old millenial rant: New cars are lame overall. Older cars are just _cooler._ That goes for older Nissans, older Ferraris, older Chevrolets, older VWs. Everything now feels more like a toy than a machine, very infantilizing, and they have fast-fashion styling (the new Supra vs the old ones, come on). Yeah they "drive better," but I had lots of fun losing conrol in my old Jags and careening an out-of-control 911 through the snow. At least I could also fix them at home. Last true "sports car" I owned was a Lotus Elise like forever ago, and I believe it marked the end of an era for analog sports cars. I've driven plenty of newer cars since then, I like some of them, I get why normal people buy them. But I like cars, which means I like lookin' at em, driving em, working on em, modding em, crashing em sometimes. We can all cry about the demise of stick shifts talking the fun out of modern sports cars, but we hardly talk about the demise of "do it yourself" repairs on these _technological marvels._ At the end of the day, give me an old Viper GTS over a new McLaren anyday. Just so many reasons "we" don't buy new sports cars.
