Can you do a video about five sports cars that I should buy?
Hey Scotty. What do you think about the 80s Celicas? The RWD models with the 22REs? Thanks!
What about a 2015 16 17 MUSTANG GT
Hey scotty , what do you recommend to fix the crack on the dashboard, i have a 2008 acura tl

I was gonna buy a 2019 Lamborghini Aventador S but thanks to this video I got a 2014 Corolla instead. Thanks Scotty!

It's still fun and games. He has no idea.
SERIOUSLY!! I have spent the last month searching high and low for the right Audi S5 and finally found one. I’m in a hotel where I’m fixing to go look (and possibly purchase) it tomorrow! My mouth dropped when the last car on his list was the Audi S5 lol!!🥴💩

Hey Scotty should I get married

Anyone can know that much...
They're falling apart as they age as well.

I’m a sales rep I drove a Pontiac solstice every summer for 4 years putting 100,000 miles. It used the ecetec motor form the Colorado pick up (which Scotty said was a good motor) I never had a problem. The interior was cheap very cheap! However if anyone is looking for a poor man’s weekend rag top, definitely recommend.
My thoughts exactly! Still have my Solstice after years and it still runs perfect! I don't know this guy very well, but he obviously does not know what hes talking about fully...
Yeah, I have one, 3 yrs now, drive it regularly, its great. The peole I have met that have had one rave about them.. Yes, we bought ones that werent driven like a sports car.
I love my Solstice GXP, no complaints here.
My Solstice GXP is over 15 years old and has 48,000 miles. Love my car and it's a blast driving with the top down. Best car I ever had 👍
I bought a used 2007 Saturn Sky, a couple years ago. I've had it for about 3 years. Only drive it in warmer weather. Never had a problem. Love these cars !!
If it were up to Scotty everyone would drive a Camry with 120hp.
But they make Lexus, you can get a Lexus with 300-400hp easy...and still reliable. Look into the LS430 or the old IS, tons of fun to drive and healthy horsepower to enjoy
If it were up to Scotty everyone would stop wasting their money on sh*t cars...... yet people are idiots and continue to make dumb decisions.
If it were up to Scotty? WE WOULD BE DRIVING ONLY ONE THING, TOYOTA'S /a. Lexus car? :-) NO id still be driving my truck!!! :-)

I bought a 911(997).....six months later £6500 engine rebuilt 🤦♂️
Too bad it was a boxster
Well that’s why I believe in buying used from authorized dealers with a warranty of 2 years. If the thing lasted 2 years fine, keep it, otherwise get rid of it without having had high repair costs.

Well my 89 911 turbo with 120k on the clock is still running like the day I drove it out the showroom... I've spent less than 10k on it since new...in fact I've spent more on fuel..!
I had a great experience with my 911. It was a 99, i had it for 2.5 yrs. Drove the heck out of it. Put new tires on it, that was all. However, the clutch was getting weak and I was concerned about the main bearing problem those seem to have, so I sold it. Thank you for these great videos!

They are hardly used for. They are mostly garage queens.
Porsche is a high quality machine not ever going to fall apart but yes you have to have money to maintain them, this guy is out of his gourd. @@feetgoaroundfullflapsC that a ridiculous and unsubstantiated claim lol. Mist Porsche owners I know (I know quite a lot) use them daily.
@@cysawyer4829--daily or once a week ONLY??? 98% of 1990 Corvettes are still registered too. Owners can say they use it. But most only use it 1-2 days a week only. It is not the only car they have. My wife insisted on getting a dreaded early 2000s Boxster. We drove it 3 years and bought a new 2008S. Maintenance was less than expected and reliability was better.

And then says all used Porsches are money pits so don't buy...I have a 997 v 1 S model with the M97 engine, so far so good
@@captain6368 The M97 engine (the 3.8L fitted to 997.1 Carrera S) is better in many ways BUT it still has the IMS potential failure, although less likely than the M96. However, and here's the rub, in the M96 a replacement IMS is a simple retrofit, but in the M97 it's an engine disassemble job...if you can live with the very rare (assuming you've dealt to the IMS already) but real and expensive M96 engine problems, the payback is a fantastic value 911 that embodies all that a 911 should - and a very analogue experience. The M96 is hardly the first and only Porsche engine (let alone other high performance engines from other marques) to have potential serious issues.

I bought my Honda S2000 new in 2002 and still have it. Very reliable, fun car. Good resale value on these too.
fastdude2002 mines done 90k pretty trouble free, but did change the radiator, surprised by a cost of £70 and a timing chain tensioner £100 as a precaution, new soft top too. I have a 2008 Pontiac Solstice. I bought it two and a half years ago with about 4,500 miles and now has about 54,000 miles. Yes, I drove that many miles. I can tell you my car has been super reliable. I was quite surprised he said it will fall apart because it has been trouble free for me.
I have been driving my GXP for over 15 years and 48,000 miles. So fun to drive and looks fantastic! 😎
I have to totally disagree with him on the Pontiac solstice. I bought a used GXP about 5 years ago and have driven the snot out of it with ZERO mechanical issues.
Love my GXP as well 👍
Scotty I daily drove my solstice for 2.5 years in Pa until I got another daily and the car has never had a big maintenance hickup at 91k miles. I have modified the hell out of mine and sorted a bunch of performance related problems because I turbocharged it but it runs perfect. Keep in mind this was a weekend cruiser older people bought back in 2007 not something a 20 year old kid like me took out and beat on like I currently do
I don't know what your customers were doing to those Solstices, but I've been in community since 2004 and they are generally very reliable, with a couple well-documented and inexpensive-to-repair issues ($125 water pump being the most common @ ~50k miles). Being parts-bin, most parts are still available new. My first one had 20,000 miles put on it in just the first year without a single problem. My second one is at 50,000 miles and I've only had to replace the water pump. I know guys who have run these things 150,000 miles, and a large portion of the community drives these often and hard. Very few of them are "lawn ornaments" or "garage queens," aside from winter storage. I am really not aware of any issues with them "just falling apart" *at all*.
Also, the aftermarket scene is excellent, and the community is very active and supportive. These things have been documented to death. And... they are cheap. Way undervalued and a HUGE bang for the buck. You won't find many other cars for under $10k used that can *bolt on* upwards of 450hp. Those Ecotecs are rock solid engines.
215,000 and going on a 2008 solstice. Cheap fun.. I bought it at 18,000 miles and the most expensive repair I've had to date was a clutch. lol, wonder how that happened.
I like mine a lot, is a 2007 red Solstice 144.000 miles on it.
Have been driving my GXP for over 15 years and only 48,000 miles.
Replaced the high pressure fuel pump at 24,000 under warranty. Love my car! So fun to drive ✅
I own a Saturn SKY (Solstice's brother) and have never regretted it. Bought it brand new and it still looks great and runs great too. Maintenance is important (with ANY vehicle) Still turns heads and "Thumbs ups" from onlookers. 🙂

I actually did okay with a Porsche. I bought a 1976 Porsche 912e for $4,400 in 1999. It was a decent driver, nothing special. I drove it a lot, some years it was the only car I owned. I sold it for $16,500 in 2015. It had 260,000 + miles on it when I sold it and still ran great.
Nice story! I suspect You are the exception. I had a 2004 Z4 a few years ago 32,000 miles.excellent shape. paid $17,000. Fixed one sensor and a new set of tires. Drove it 6 mths a year (midwest) for a couple of years. Sold it a couple years later for $14,000. Great car! I would try another...My Mercedes on the other hand....
your lucky
Exactly. I'm sorry and with all due respect to Scotty, who is GREAT entertainment, but anyone buying a used Porsche, and then taking it to a "generic mechanic" like Scotty here, is doing it wrong. You go into Porsche ownership making sure that 1) The last owner looked after it correctly, and 2) You can afford to do the same, at a specialist mechanic. You'll have $100K worth of fun, for MUCH less.
During the time I owned the Porsche, I took it it to two shops. I did some work myself. I did oil changes and replaced a starter. Back to the shops. One was a shop that only did German cars. The other shop worked on anything from Toyotas to Ferrari. I trusted both shops.
Got a 78 924 and I hear that 924’s are crappy cars, but mine aged well, apart from the original paint job. Almost all of the car is stock (bought a performance cooling fan and ceramic brake pads). Still have the original stereo, 8-tracks and speakers stored in case someone wanted to buy them. Came with the leather case for the removable top, trunk concealment cover and couple other things here and there. Seems I’m not the only one that got lucky.
You are completely wrong about Porsches. They tend to be very reliable and don't fall apart. They are not cheap to maintain but they hold their value and don't fall apart or breakdown. My only regret was SELLING my 1990 911 Targa in Guards Red!
I bet that targa looked so cool.
The bean counters at Porsche took over in the late 90's with the 996, Boxster, and Cayenne. The Porsches before this time were of very good quality and would last decades. Just close the door on any older Porsche and compare it to a newer one, if that doesn't scream quality than nothing will. If you look at Porsche's track record over the last 15 years for engine reliability, it's pretty sad -- IMS failures, scored cylinders, "D-chunk" cylinders, RMS leaks, etc. Not exactly confidence inspiring they know what they are doing...
Kevin Geiger my friend we only live like maybe 86 or 87 years in our lives if were lucky ,and if you have that extra money and you can drive that 911 , do it 👍🏻, just drive and be happy why looking in negative things in life ! Drive that 911 fast 👍🏻
@ZadfrackGlutz Zesozose Absolutely! That's why I enjoy working on them! ;)
Loving the cat in the background - shaking his head in despair !
I love watching these videos and hearing the advise from this awesome hoarder mechanic. I bought a Toyota Matrix instead of the Porsche 997.2 that I wanted originally. I saved so much money I can buy two more Toyota Matrixes. Awesome!
Ha ha ha.
I bought the 997.2 carrera s , have not regretted it. You made a mistake !
The 911's hold their value really well and tend to be good cars to own.
Ive owned 4 of them 1976 911s, 1990 C4 cab, 1993, RS America, 1992 C2 (I liked the 962's) and I have no complaints.
Yes, he loses credibility for that call. The 911 Turbo he pictured never had the IMS (Intermediate Shaft) bearing failures, RMS (Rear Main Seal) leaks and cylinder cracking, that was the early standard Carrera models and only some of them.
While they are marvels of design and timeless classics, 911's are not for the uninitiated. No one can say they are inexpensive to own and maintain and I think that is what he is getting at. People that know are not surprised and expect a kick to the wallet for the privilege of driving a motoring legend, but that is not the vast majority of drivers.
As for Audi he is dead on. They are an express train to the poor house.
@@sallen4848 Agree with you re Porsche, but not on Audi. I own both for years and have had trouble free motoring over lots of miles. Some Audi models perhaps are more prone to trouble than others, espc the loaded complex ones. Just more stuff to go wrong.
@@jamesmarshall3311 I am an Audi fan as I think they are usually on the bleeding edge of excellent German design. I had an Allroad that needed new air-suspension and an A4 that blew a Turbo at 37,000 miles. Both insanely expensive fixes. Would love to have an RS 7 one day but no time soon. Cheers!
Scotty, make a quick video about your cat hahahaha..... that would be awesome.
Hey Scotty, you're like the patron saint of commuters, everyday drivers, and us po folks in general. God bless you and keep you!
I sold my 95 Celica GT 2.2L 5spd to my daughter, and I've been missing it ever since. But for weekend cars, I have a 95 Miata, a 97 BMW z3, and an 00 Porsche Boxster. Saving up to change the IMS bearing. I live at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, so it's all worth it to me. But I can't even imagine the people who commute, and or drive on straight roads, or interstate highways and drive sports cars! Whassamatta whichu guys! I actually won't be losing any money on any of them because prices have gone up and they are weekend cars for me. And they all needed some work so I got'em cheap to begin with. My z3 was a boyfriend/girlfriend damage car that needed a driver door skin, a hood and a headlight. I bought a parts car in the same color for a total investment of $1,500 and now I gotta $4,500 car! And I used the parts car to fix my girlfriends z3 when it needed a radiator and fan and such, so the parts car paid for itself. She and I made a pact not to use a baseball bat on either of the z3s if one of us is mad at the other. So you see, it's possible to own some of these cars without a lot of money. But ya gotta be a wily coyote like me, or a sly fox like my lady.
Love your videos
can’t talk, busy driving my used sports car.
So we just not going to talk about the cat going to the bathroom in the background at 3:00?
Great advices Scotty
Nice video. How about one on what sports cars you DO recommend?
It sounds like Scotty forms his opinions from a few customers' cars. Pretty limited sample size.
Actually Porsche is routinely near the top of quality and reliability independent lists (JD Power, etc).
I have a 2004 911. I had the IMS bearing replaced and have never had any trouble with it. Everyone I let drive it say it's the best-driving car they've ever experienced. Many magazines say it's the best sports car ever made.
Never do too many shots of whiskey before making videos! lmao i love this guy.
ali87485able Nah, whiskey slows you down... this is passion, madness and someone whose not allowed out too often without his wife. I fully relate to this.
So when are you going to make a video on cars to actually buy
That is an easy one, Toyota.
Celica, Corolla, Camry, Civic with standard trans
Lol, must be a newbie to this channel... Scotty will recommend.... wait for it.... TOYOTA
Toyota
toyota toyota toyota toyota toyota
good info,,,,sooo,,,,what strong runnning sports car do you recommend
Wait the sl600’s and the sl65 AMG engine reliable! So should i buy an sl500 instead?
The stuff with Porsche is bullshit.
911's have the best long-term reliability of all cars on the road, so go get your 911 used
No it's not their parts are expensive and they're high maintenance. Even the cheapest Porsche's like the 924 and 944 have expensive parts and require a ridiculous amount of maintenance. I learned first hand when me and my buddies bought a 944 with a blown driveshaft coupler. We turned it into a dirt racecar and we didn't make it through a whole race season because parts were so expensive, even used parts.
Porsches make some of the best used cars. Parts are sometimes more expensive because they were built with good parts and those cost money but they also tend not to break often. My Boxster has cost me $40 in repairs over 4 years, a rear wheel bearing that the OEM one was $39 and change and took only a few hours to install
I have 2 second hand Porsche 911's : a 1998 Carrera 2 & a 2004 Carrera 4S convertinble. Both best cars I ever had : rock solid and parts (if ever needed) are very reasonable. Maintenance is super easy, all is very well documented. The 'horror story' about the engines (IMS etc) is an urban legend ...
I wonder if the cat in the background is like here he goes again waving and yelling at the piece of electronic thing in front of him
Your great Scotty so entertaining
Thanks Scotty. I loved the image of someone pushing their car off a cliff. I had my eye on the Audi S5, but own an Infiniti M35x that has worked FLAWLESSLY and don't want endless frustration. The S5 also can pass anything on the road but a gas station.
Look out for transmission
Amazing video ! You’re hilarious 🤣🤣. Please make the video about sports cars that are ok to buy used !
Fabian Romano according to Scotty they don’t exists
Just buy a miata. Just do it.
Miata is always the answer!
Exactly what I was thinking
Track day bro
MaxSpeed I love my NC . I might be buried sitting in the drivers seat .
What about the s2000
@@JAYJAYJAY53 haha
Can you give some insight on a Used M4? I heard the 2015/2016 models have a couple of issues, especially if you put on some after market equipment.
One I was looking at is on the list. Thanks Scotty!!!!!
I have a 2007 Porsche 911 with 48,000 miles. So far...ZERO problems
Keep it for about another good five seven years and we see if you still be saying that
@@godofdestructiondiecast6756 Bet
@Joe H 10 years
@Blackporsche roadster Rip
@Joe H You'll be fine, I daily a 1999 Boxster and I've had zero problems
I had a 2001 911 4 that ran perfectly for 9 years. It depreciated 18,000 in 9 years so it was a pretty good deal and I was very pleased its reliability
That's awesome. I've heard that the 996 (1999-2005) 911 is the most reliable of them all.
@BergmannDollo I see. Would you happen to know the take rate on the ims problem? Very good info, thanks for the share.
Hakeem Sd70M I own. A 2001 boxter S and I’ve owned it for the past 3 years ..last year the rear main seal was leaking so had to replace that along with the IMS and since it was down I went ahead and changed the clutch it cost me 2,500 ..I don’t know if that was too much but it was worth it cause it runs like a champ and I don’t have to worry bout that going out again ...I’ve already made my money back on that repair
@@hakeemsd70m 997 is a much improved 996, actually. I've heard several Porsche mechanics disparage the 996. I owned an '04 btw and loved it, but the previous owner did lose the engine at 16.5K miles to a failed IMS bearing. Lucky for him it was still under warranty; $13K for parts and labor in '06.
@@vladimiralvarez1162 that's awesome. A little disappointing that you ran into the IMs problem, but like you said you made it back so it's a win-win. Enjoy the Boxster!
Thank you Scotty, I'm sharing the video with my brother, he has a used Porsche 911. I drive a Camry !
Thank you! I was actually considering every single one of those cars...lol 🙈
I bought a used 2003 BMW Z4 with 45k miles in 2015 and it has been one of the best cars I've ever had. The M54 engine is practically bulletproof, the only this I had to do was a preemptive DISA valve replacement. It has been my daily driver and looks like new. People will easily believe it is worth more than twice what I paid for it! If you are planning on buying a sports car, take a look at the forums to get an idea of what you will be dealing with.
A V I worked as a detailer as my very first job and many years back an elderly couple showed up in a Z4. It had Texas plates on it and they drove all the way to Canada because they want to explore North America by road trip. The car had a lot of miles on it.
I’ve got a 2006 z4 3.0. I’ve put 30000 miles on it in the last year it’s never missed a beat. Looks like new. Never had a problem. For some reason the e85 z4s are overlooked. But they are a quality product and you can get them cheap
How much you paid for it? That is low mileage for a car that old.
Got a 2004 3.0i with 120k miles for 6k last year.
@@2010ngojo 10k, 11k with taxes and tags and all that.
Aye older BMW are super reliable, they went down hill in late 2000 especially with the N54 engine.
Just money pits those engines. The B57 engine looks promising however.
I bought a used 2013 Infiniti G37 Convertible just over 2 years ago. It was 3+ years old. A lease turned in. I have put on 12,000 miles with zero issues except normal maintenance. It's not a V8, but pretty fast for me. I drive her hard, and the roof goes down. Came standard with all options, heated and cooled seats, mirrors automatically come in, etc. How about a video on good fun used cars to buy? So far this one works.
Hey Scotty can you do a video on which cars are good for tall people? Usually all the ones that actually have enough leg room for me fit your list of cars that are bad (VW golf, nissan, etc). Looking for some recommendations on cars that are both good for tall people but also not disasters to maintain, thanks!
I don't know why but I find your content so entertaining
Scotty is definitely right with those luxury brands they only like to sell you parts As a whole assembly, infiniti dealer tried to screw me kn my Q50 for $700, I just got the single part online for $100 and installed it myself in 3mins, tried to rape me with some labor charge KNOWING It would only take them a couple minutes so I did it myself
That's why, like in the case of Audi, you hunt down the VW equivalent part, if available.
Will Barnz perhaps,, but even the vw parts are exorbitant
Thats why they have all that lube in the garage, it's for the customers.
My daily driver is a 1988 928 S4 with 180,000 miles, looks brand new and drives like a dream.
I had the '87 928 S4 and should have kept it. Much better than the 911s IMHO.
@@193322009 Why do you say that ?? Its a kind of apples to Oranges comparison anyways as the 911 is a sports car and the 928 a GT type car.
thank you, i think you opened up my eyes not buying used porsche. I didn't know how expensive it is to maintain the car.
Great education.
Scotty the Solstice is very reliable. I bought a 07 GXP with 120k miles on it for 6k. It has never broken down, other than simple stuff such as sparkplugs and oil etc. The only thing is that I had to change was purge solenoid because I have mine tuned which caused it to fail with the higher boost numbers.
I got a 2005 solstice with 197,000 km all summer use . $7000 Canadian ...only thing is it takes work to replace the battery...the best value in a poor mans sports car..cheaper than a skidoo and a lot more fun..Scotty is anti American when it comes to cars
Still driving my GXP for over 15 years and 48 thousand miles 👍
The most fun, best looking car I've ever owned ✅😎
The way he articulates with his hands makes me laugh!
I especially liked the "money tower" articulation at 1:29
Please give advise on how to best store a car (4 to 5 months) while I drive a winter "beater" car? Cold or heated storage? Disconnect battery or start it once Wk? Fuel stabilizer?
Im from Germany and own a 2013 Audi S5 Convertible since 4 Years with now 100.000KM on it. The only thing it needed was regular maintanance (Oil changes, Brakepads, Tires...).
In fact the 3.0 V6 TFSI is considered a very reliable Engine that is even tunable to about 500HP from the Stock 333HP! (Mine is Stock)
The average car should make it to 11 years and/or 200,000 km without any major repair.
