I've known my share of elite endurance athletes. It's about limit testing and limit testing hurts. For the most part, the long distance running community is honest about it, though.

I have a condition called compartment syndrome in my legs which makes running painful. About a year ago I decided I wanted to run a marathon, the most I’d ever run in my life was 6 miles. It seemed impossible given my condition but I wanted to do it. Trained for about 3 months and in the end I finished the marathon in 5 hours and 35 minutes. I took about 50 breaks, and for a guy this is well below average, but I consider it the biggest thing I’ve accomplished in my life. It is W-I-L-D that he did this on that little training. The elevation to distance ratio is pretty gnarly. Can’t skip long runs, can’t skip downhill training (eccentric loading). Elevation is a mofo after a while. Great video dude and congrats. Pushing our limits and challenging our beliefs of what we're capable of, although very repeated in the inspiration world, is really a transformative experience. It's so freakin cool to see popular content creators shine their spotlight on ultrarunning. It's an amazing sport that has given so much to so many people.
When I was 16 I was smoking weed everyday and was extremely uncomfortable in my own skin. I was 300 lbs and just walking was so uncomfortable.
I started getting into shape and saw several movies about ultrarunning but wrote that off as something for the elite. I just wanted to be able to run a 5k.
Over the next 10 years I learned a ton about diet, exercise, and how to be happy. Now, I'm 26 and I just finished my first 100 mile mountain race last weekend in 22 hours and 31 minutes.
I'm not posting this to brag. Hopefully, people see Cody's video, and this comment, and content similar and realize ANYONE can do AMAZING things. And the gratification and fulfillment that can be achieved through it is UNREAL.
There is so much love and personal growth and just all around awesome shit that comes from running any distance, but especially in ultras.

This is insane, absolutely amazing how you just went for it and followed through even though you knew you were in a slump.
I always find it so incredible that people can do things like this. I'm disabled and I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user- when you talk about the "tree leaning" and how exhausted you have to be to get there, I can't make it 5 minutes to the end of my neighborhood without being that tired and completely taken over by pain. Like, limping, crying, don't know if I can make it home pain. That sounds so dramatic but it's true. Whenever I watch something like this I think "I should try running maybe I'd be better" and then I remember that not running isn't the issue lol But it's just so inspiring to see someone go "you know what, it'll push my limits, but let's go" "honestly, I was fucking pissed and sometimes I failed, but I did it". Like that makes me rethink other things. It doesn't have to be an ultra marathon, but maybe I can clean those dishes. I'm gonna be pissed off and it's gonna be painful, but it'll feel good when they're done. That probably sounds so stupid lol
Anyways I loved this video and it was really inspiring!!!

This is inspiring. I have been that same person a times, who hears about a difficult challenge and reflexively responds, "that's not happening". It's not just fitness for me. In high school, I had a dream of learning higher mathematics and becoming an expert in something. Life got in the way and decided it was no possible for me to pursue.
But recently I said screw it-- if I want to learn math, no one is stopping me. After all, I am privileged to live in a time and place where information is practically free. So I picked up the most interesting textbook I could find at my local thrift store and the other day I started working through it. It's only 120 pages, but it is incredibly dense and seems impossible for me to understand. On the first day I made it through a page and a half.
But I have decided to study this book for a little bit every day, until it is finished. And then I can go from there.
