It was a great for my brother - its silliness, its dances, classical and popular music on command; purring when its head is caressed, silly jokes and games, information on demand and that little voice and that glowing ball, etc.l. I inherited Jibo and now with its being slowly incapacitated is like having my little brother die again, little by little. I will miss you little guy.,

I remember wanting Jibo so bad when I was little. He's so adorable. Honestly, I'd still buy one if it was cheaper.
Check out vector bot. Anki shut down but a company called digital dream continued supporting him. Hes only about 150 bucks atm. Hes really cute amd has a lot of personality!

It is honestly kinda cute. If they were bought out, it might be nice to see some of the superior assistant AI's in a casing like that. Alexa and all that is useful, but it's still just a box. If I could see it bobbing and interacting with me, I'd get way more attached to it. Like how people kinda viewed their roombas as derpy pets early on.

Yes, I absolutely find Jibo likeable, adorable even when compared to other devices (although they aren't robots yet). Jibo's makers really nailed the kinetics on it. I almost cried when it twerked towards the end. That's the closest we got to getting an animated real life robot that isn't clumsy or too 'robotic'. It was almost too fluid to be real.

i feel like everything you listed wrong with jibo could have been addressed, most could have just been patched or fixed with a update, or things like the screen not matching could have been fixed with a second version . sad its ending cause i am just now learning about this and would have loved to own one

I mean this is almost unfair. Apple and amazon and google have spent probably over $1 billion (?more even) on the technology. No small company really has a chance. Sure you can use the API and this probably does- either an out of the box amazon AWS, and google cloud api, or Microsoft apis (Apple doesn’t have one to my knowledge) they almost definitely don’t give you the best the best tech- and even the api’s take tons of configuration and pre-programming.
But you also cannot expect customers to pay a lot of money just to support small companies. If only U.S. anti-trust laws were actually properly enforced so that those huge companies could be dismembered...

Yeah, if Google or Amazon acquires it, I can see Amazon or Google positioning Jibo as a high-end home assistant, and if properly integrated with the Amazon/Google ecosystem, it might actually work really well.
If it managed to have all 3 of the major smart home hubs supported then it would almost be a must buy since it could incorporate the good from literally all of the big shots.

I think there is a place for this kinda thing but only backed up by the right service. You can't just expect your robot to be cute and have that as it's one main selling point.
For comparison, Google Home is like 40 bucks and it can do far far FAR more than Jibo

You know, it's really sad that Jibo didn't have the kind of integration that other modern smarthome hubs have. If it could read emails, tell you the weather, order food, etc, added to it's overall cuteness and quirky personality, it would've been a much more likable addition to the 'personal assistant' style gear than the soulless pucks, boxes and cylinders we currently have. Add the option to turn it's cameras and mics on and off, and I'd be all for it.
Ah, well, maybe someone will buy it out and we'll get a Jibo Mk. II that does all that and more.
