  • I travel out to the Santiam Pass wilderness area to meet up with a friend of mine and do some exploring while trying to find a bypass route.
    We manage to get into some snow, ice, and mud during our adventures, and I defiantly put the Crosstrek through the ringer, haha!

    At least your Crosstrek is still roadworthy. My bright orange 2014 was rear ended in 2016 while I sat at a stop light. The entire rear end folded under and the rear doors bent outwards. I replaced it with a 2017 Outback, which is the least off road worthy Subaru I've ever owned. My 2003 Outback was a champ even with the bad main seal. My 2017 Outback buried the front end in the yard after I drove off the gravel trying to turn the pig around. I had to be towed out by my neighbors Toyota Tundra.

    • @TheAdventureZombie
      @TheAdventureZombie  Před 3 lety +3

      Thanks! The aggressive tires are defiantly not a must. The stock tires do great on all terrains. I ran all weather tires on my 2014 for years before I got a lift and oversized tires. I went with the aggressive tires for two reasons: I go off road probably 4 days a week, so I wanted the heavier ply tire with the more aggressive tread to handle difficult obstacles, and I think they look cool :P

  • @timmiller5990
    @timmiller5990 Před 3 lety +2

    Does the Crosstrek have any kind of limited slip in the rear? If not, when a rear tire gets lifted off the ground, its going to spin. The beauty of AWD only works if all four tires are planted to the ground in my experience.

    • @TheAdventureZombie
      @TheAdventureZombie  Před 3 lety

      That is what one of the many functions of X-Mode is for. What it does is stops the tire without traction and diverts the power to the tires that do have traction.

    • @MarsPHLO
      @MarsPHLO Před 2 lety

      Subaru has another approach for this
      The transaxle has clutch type limited spin differential that can fully engage and lock up to transfer 50:50 front and rear, and brake limited differential system control by computer to actively brake the less traction wheel (any wheel in any combination)
      Stock rear differential is open diff, so the brake do the work when one wheel off ground and spinning, brake that wheel then power redirected to the one touching the ground

    • @RKmndo
      @RKmndo Před 2 lety

      A rear diff-locker is available for Crosstreks for just a few hundred $$. Traction mats, a recovery strap, and a winch are still good ideas for offroading.
      Even a lifted Rubicon with huge tires can get stuck.

  • @MrJt3451

    • @TheAdventureZombie
      @TheAdventureZombie  Před 3 lety +1

      If you need cargo space, Crosstreks are not the way to go. However, if you need a great car for daily driving and the occasional bad weather, I'd take a Crosstrek over any of the smaller SUV crossovers.
