I Do Some Exploring Up In The Shotgun Creek Area, With My Lifted Subaru Crosstrek

  • I head out to Shotgun Creek OHV Recreation Area for a quick day trip. I did a fair amount of exploring, and managed to find some decent mud holes, and some pretty fun trails to drive.
    I can defiantly tell that my new RallyArmor mud flaps helped keep the mud and grime off the side of my car, on this trip. Normally my car would have been caked in mud after a trip like this, haha!

    Thanks, I have had the Crosstrek (XV in New Zealand) one week and already had three astonished 4WD owners with what it can do even not lifted. Been out on the beach in deep shingle and up a 120ft 24deg wet grass hill in it

    • @TheAdventureZombie
      @TheAdventureZombie  Před 3 lety +1

      Haha! Yeah, it's a great pace to keep a full size spare :) I am planning on getting a custom rear bumper with a tire carrier soon though. I'd really like to put my Thule aero box on the roof instead to help save on MPG.

    • @lordscarfinger267
      @lordscarfinger267 Před 3 lety +1

      I don't care about the MPG, cause it looks cool on top of the car 😂
      Besides I have an Gordi Gear awning mounted on the driver's side, so the tire up there won't make much MPG difference anymore. And if the MPG gets too high and you might run out of fuel, you always can place two fuel canisters on the rack. Useful and stylish for again 😂

    Dude, loved it! You have a knack for engaging visual storytelling! I would liked to have seen how you moved the "big a$$ tree" LOL.
    Also LOVED the driving into and away from camera transition...very nice. And the full send thru the mud puddles early on looked like a blast.
    I need to get out there, ride with you and get me some Oregon pinstriping. That one trail and slope looked gnarly enough on camera, but I know what you mean...video hardly ever does it justice. I KNEW you had to scraped bumper on that one...glad you showed it at the end.
    BTW, how's your CVT temps now that you have the ScanGauge? You noticing it getting hot at all especially on the trails or after long ascents? And are you running in manual mode or auto? I suspect keeping it in manual mode might help keep the temps down because the CVT isn't constantly hunting for a gear. My guess is that more fluid flow, drum and belt movement and constant change in system pressures = more heat vs fixing it in a "gear" should essentially mean less "hunting" from the CVT. I could be wrong, but I'm planning on testing it next time I find dirt to play in.
    Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!

    • @TheAdventureZombie
      @TheAdventureZombie  Před 3 lety

      Thanks man! Lol, I used one of the branches and leverage to get the tree moved. Works great if the branches are strong enough, lol. I actually moved two big ass trees that day, but my GoPro stopped working, so I didn't get the second one on camera. Lol, I figured you'd see that transition, haha! I really like the way you had done it, and figured you'd appreciate the subtle "nod" to your work :)
      Dude, you are always welcome to hit me up, should you ever be in the Oregon area, and you best believe I'll be hitting you up if I'm ever in the Chicago area, lol! Oh man, that trail. I didn't know if I was gonna be able to make it to the top or not. Each section I was telling melyself, "well, here goes nothing." Ha! I also didn't mean to go that fast through the puddles, but it looks good on film! :P
      So far I haven't seems trans temps over 202 yet on ascents, but I also haven't climbed anything too crazy yet. My temps usually hover around 185-191, but it's also cold out so I'm sure that has a part in it. I will defiantly test out manual mode on ascents next time and see if that helps my temps though, it seems like sound reasoning to me :) I'll let you know how it goes.
      Thanks for the feedback as always, I really appreciate the advice and support, man. Thank you!

      @TheAdventureZombie  Před 3 lety

      Awesome! Glad to have you :) Well, the roof rack costs me about 5-7MPG, lol. Soon as I get a bumper with a tire carrier, I'll throw my aero box up there.

    Great videos ! Did you do a weight comparison with the new tires and wheel combo ? And how much did the added weight of the wheels and tires affect your performance and mileage?

    • @TheAdventureZombie
      @TheAdventureZombie  Před 3 lety

      They are heavier, but no I didn't. The tires didn't make a big difference in fuel milage. The big one was adding the roof rack. That took a chunk of my MPG.

There are a ton of roads up there though, lots of areas to explore :)
