My Crosstrek Goes Down The Hardest Trail It's Ever Been Down, And My Wife Drove?

- We take the SuBeast down a random trail near Bohemia Mountain, Sultana Way Trail No. 1405A. I really wanted to try and get some different shots on this trip, so I asked my wife to drive. I'm so glad I did, because what we ended up getting into was really epic, and I'm glad she was there to experience it with me. I hope you all enjoy this trail video, as much as we enjoyed shooting it :)

Your wife did it justice on that trail. Perfect line picking and steady pace. She's a very confident and skilled driver. About to take my 2018 Crosstrek out to explore the world now. It's year 2023 and the car has under 5,000 miles on it due to Covid shutdowns. First order of business will be skid plates, and maybe some KO2 tires for it. Recovery boards too. Got to get it decked out for the mall.
Great that you took the wife along, or should I say, nice that she took YOU along as a co pilot, lol.
Exactly, haha! I kept asking, do you want me to drive? But she was on it :)
Great music to go with the quiet of the forest.
Wow! Thanks for sharing!
Your wife did great driving on that trail, It looked scary in the video and cant imagine what it was like actually driving it. Beautiful area, Great video.
It was all of that, and a lot of fun :p
tree across section was great
The road to the trail head is wider and in much better shape than the road I live 2 miles up...most of The Trail looks like my driveway [excluding the rock decent/ascent, I have to go both ways]... including down trees when the wind is a blown'. 20 year old Cherokee retired in November.... 2021 Crosstrek Ltd. has replaced it...so far so good.
Right on
Dude when the two other trees fell... Haha :)
Lmao! Glad you liked that :p
Absolutely love the content! Instant sub. Can’t wait for the next trail vid with the wife!
Thanks! It was a really fun day :)
Gurrl, you lookin fierce behind the wheel! I'd be so scared on some of those narrower bits. Also I actually lol’ed at the hair reveal. Phil should feature you more often!
Lol, I'm glad that went over well. It was a super fun day out with the wife for sure. She killed it :p
Right on! Amber did awesome! My wife said good for her. Loved the vid.
It was really fun :)
That was one scary trail! You, your wife and the Crosstrek did it justice. Great video (I actually found I was holding my breath a few times..)!
Thanks! It was a wild one. I found the trailhead, but I couldn't find any info on the route, or where it ended. So we literally just took a shot and tried it. We were very fortunate if you ask me.
That trail looked amazing and gnarly as heck. Great vid 👍
It was! We had no idea what we were gonna find, or where the trail even came out at, lol! Thanks!
I got a good laugh when all the trees fell.
Lol, yeah that was expected, but it sure turned out funny on the video, lol!
Just got my sport last night! So excited. Love the content. Would love to have mine look like yours one day
Thank you! And congrats!
Once you do one like this the others will feel easy. Good Job to the both of you, and thanks for the video!
Thanks! And they already do, haha!
she rocks !!
love your vids keep it up bro 👍🏼
That was awesome!!!! You are a cool couple!
That was a fun day :)
Looks like a lot of fun! I have a lot of trails around me but they'er all very well groomed/traveled... nothing too technical. Unfortunately. Thanks for sharing!
For sure! Just sounds like you need to travel a bit :)
Having 2 people allowed you to get some great shots! Keep it up
Thanks! That was the plan :p
You rocked it Amber!! You've done off roading before😊
She has, but never in my car, and never in a brand new rig. She killed it :)
Just picked up my sport tonight. Love the videos!
Awesome! Thanks!
mosty enjoyable video...i just bought one of these mofos this weekend...got me pumped
Awesome! I'm sure you'll love it!
Loved the trees ganging up on you , love your hair man, nice dam vehicle, I must admit my hi ace van would have cruised that trail with ease and it's one wheel drive
Thanks, but I promise it's not as easy as it looks on video, lol. Noonday Wagon Road Trail coming down from Sultana Way Trail east of Cottage Grove, OR if you want to give it a shot :p Take video of your van on there though 🤣
@@TheAdventureZombie Ok mabey not wreck the van hey, I'm in NZ, ex SA, we used to play in the Namibian desert, with Landcruisers , like the tyres on your Subaru, I utilized retread tyres on rocks saved casharola, keep filming, watch out for thoes trees
Awesome! Sounds like fun, and thank you!
I would love to do a trail with that much green! It’s a workout when you off road for sure! My wife isn’t big on trail rides unless she is driving :)
It was pretty awesome, and a bit sketchy. We had no idea where this trail went or popped out at, lol
I’m so copying this setup for my next Crosstrek. Would be awesome for storm chasing.
Heck yeah! And thanks!
She handled it like a pro!
Yep, she kicked butt :)
MAN, that is some Awesome Visage you and your wife transversed! Great Job she did navigating it, also!
P.S. Good thing someone before you cut that 50 inch tree across the trail!!
Thanks! She did awesome on that trail, for sure :) no joke!
Definitely xv and wrangler country. Good luck getting a power wagon or full-size in there. I’d be nervous in a gladiator even. Yikes
Yeah, it was a super tight trail for sure. Super fun too :)
Or trooper or montero or forester.
Cool little trail, looks pretty tight though!👍
Very cool, and very snug, haha!
Awesome job!! Nice video!!
Thank you! It was a fun one!
Go Amber! Next you should do the noonday trail lol
Soon as the snow melts I'll see if I can't do the whole Noonday trail. I've done parts already. Good trail :)
Great driving!!
She kicked butt that day :)
Beautiful mountain trail.
I love it out there :)
Once I graduate university, this is exactly how I’ll be spending my time lol
Awesome! I encourage this :)
I dropped out in 7th grade and this is how I’m spending my time now, but in a Jeep Wrangler. Thinking about getting a crosstrek to replace my commuter car. Just kinda worried about the low horse power.
@@franksmith8210 it's soooo slow, and cvt is dreadful.
I disagree. The new 2.5l Crosstreks are bad ass. It's taken me down some gnarly trails. I use my Subaru harder than most people use their jeeps, and I've had zero issues on either front.
@@TheAdventureZombie oh yeah, 2.5 is a different story. I have one. I meant the 2.0, sorry for lack of clarification. 🤙🏻
Very nice team effort....
It was a fun day :)
That was awesome
Yes it was! Thank you :)
Nice job! Hello from Indiana!
Thanks! And hello back :)
Like the build! Subscribed!
Hey Bruceyyyyy! Welcome to the channel, and I just returned the favor :)
I carry a foldable wood saw in my car, 1 ft blade. Works an absolute charm for this kind of thing. Cutting wood is easier than chopping wood.
Agreed. But I knew I was getting a battery powered chainsaw, which I have recently purchased, so I was just biding my time till I could afford it.
I wouldn't even dare going with a motorcycle over that trail.
That was an easy trail in the Trek :)
@@TheAdventureZombie You encouraged me to buy one, thank you.
Subbed. Great stuff!
Thank you!
This trail looks like an awesome trek to take a small/narrow vehicle like that Subaru. You ever got stuck going off road by yourself (one vehicle)? If you did, how did you get out? Yea, and she did a great job on that trail. 👍
Yeah, this trail was a blast. And yes I have, a few times. And fortunately the times I was REALLY stuck, I was able to get help from people in the area. Sometimes you have to wait a while, lol!
Very impressive. I have a new found respect for Crosstreks, very capable vehicles. BTW...love the background music too...who's the band?
Thanks! They are quite impressive little cars :) And not sure, it's some royalty free music I use.
You should invest in a drone we have the dji mini drone you will get some sick shots we also have the dji pocket 2 for a filming camera for adventures both together are amazing. My wife and I want to check out Oregon it looks amazing! Your wife killed it behind the wheel.
Oh, you best believe I have that cool little gadget on my list of stuff to purchase :) Soon, I'm sure :p
Freakin SWEET!
So much fun :)
Do you have a video of everything you’ve done to your crosstrek? Great videos. My wife and I have a limited on order. We’ve been going on some four wheel drive adventures with a couple of crosstrek buddies in our tundra. Problem is the Tundra is just so big. We’ve been fine thus far but are looking forward to the crosstrek.
The Crosstrek is small so be ready for that. I advise a big roof box for storage. As far as a video on everything I've done, not exactly. However if you check this video, it goes over all my RalliTek parts, and all the other parts including the RalliTek parts are listed in the description
czcams.com/video/AKjzfkjNKJk/video.html
Nice driving 🏅 that’s more of a atv or goat trail then a jeep trail
Yeah, she killed it :)
So cool & super nice video👍
I from Malaysia 😊my next car conform is Subaru XV 💪💪
Awesome! Glad you found my channel, I'm happy your here :) These are pretty fun cars, that's for sure :)
Freaking awesome video man! Hey what size wheel and tire are you running? Those look really nice on there.
Hey there! I'm running KMC Bully wheels, and in this video I had BFG KM3s on, but I now run Yokohama Geolander M/T G003s. The sizes are in the video descriptions :)
Ok honey, I have put out those boards for you to follow. Now traverse that chasm.
Hm, I am surprised at how well that worked.
Bwahahahaha! It's like you were there!
I would like to see you go back up th other way. I wish I could go to Oregon and do that trail
Haha! Well I don't think I'd make it, and it is a one way trail, but I bet it would be intense! Lol
@@TheAdventureZombie I don't think about that I guess it would have to be a one way trail as tight as it is 😂
Not exactly one you can back down, lol! But I've been in roads like this in CO with cars coming at you. It takes a lot of ground guiding, and a whole lot of luck! Lol
Congratulations for the video, I'm enjoying it!
I live in Brazil and dream of owning a Subaru XV.
Around here we only have a 2.0 gas engine and also the Hybrid.
I intend to buy the one with a gasoline engine, 150 horsepower.
The bad thing about all this is that we only have 4 stores in the country, but even so, I believe it's worth it. We also thought about the Jeep Compass Trailhawk 2.0 Diesel, but they say it has many chronic problems.
I would like you to tell me about Subaru, is it ok?
We will travel, me, my wife and the dog.
Thanks
Hugs
Man this video had me nervous for you lol.
Nerves were high, but what a fun day!
You look better without a hat on. 😂 jk! Your videos are great, keep it up!!
Lol, thanks :p
Been on far worse with stock suspension and tires in my crosstrek. Great little car. So far 50k+ offroad. Only problems have been a torn sidewall and knocking my transmission pan loose. Front bumper has popped off on a few extreme situations rock crawling and going in and out of a few washes, but pops right back on.
Yeah, this trail is harder than it looks. Video has a way of flattening things out. This trail would destroy the bottom of a stock trek, unless there were skids. That being said, it sounds like your having all kinds of fun with yours :)
@@TheAdventureZombie fully aware of how video rarely does a spot justice. Just saying, a bone stock Crosstrek is far more capable than most people realize. A good spotter picking a good line go a long way. Periodically stacking rocks to get better approach angles also helps. I didn't say my XV doesn't have battle scars underneath, just that I have been on far worse. I always love showing up in spots where jeep clubs are with their 100k + builds watching them scratching their heads wondering how we got there. 😁. Just saying, the Crosstrek is a sleeper if you know it's strengths and weaknesses. Bang for the buck, I haven't been able to find anything close to it. We also have a 2019 Tacoma. When we are going to the really hard to get to spots the XV is the choice because of its short wheelbase and low center of gravity. The Taco is just way too big in a lot of situations especially in slot canyon washes .
Oh that's for sure, a stock Crosstrek is very capable as is. Even more so with a spotter :)
Just got a 2022 sport!
10/10 hair reveal!
You missed a giant - fun - opportunity to pretend you chopped that giant log @7:00 xd
Lol, yeah, that would have been funny. The wife was white knuckled at that point, so the theatrics went out the window, lol
@@TheAdventureZombie haha yup understandable
I'm seriously considering a 2021 Crosstrek ...
The addition of the 2.5l over the 2.0 was a wise choice for Subaru. Maybe one of these years we will get a stock turbo :p
@@TheAdventureZombie , would be nice but right now I'm looking for reliability and reasonable pricing ...I have enough HP in my inventory ...
What mpg does this get with the tires in this video or the tires you're currently running? I'm deciding between the crosstrek and forester (maybe wilderness) for light adventure driving, camping, road trips when it suits. The crosstrek seems to do a little better on fuel on average but we have two dogs and friends that like to ride along sometimes. We bought a trooper with 4x4 and have loved going wherever we want but it's really old but that means we don't care much about scratches and dents.
I was getting between 16 and 28mpg depending on what I was doing. But I'd say like 24 on average. The lift and tires don't effect it much, it's the roof rack and other roof mounted accessories that take the biggest toll.
Where did you get the lines that goes all the side long (from tail lights to head lights), are they a decal?
Yep, it's 1/8" vinyl pinstripe. With a steady hand you can get it looking pretty good.
Awesome trail! Im curious to know what you think of the 2.5 sport compared to your first 2.0 that you were running? Just Bought the white sport myself and should be picking it up today or tomorrow.
Hands down a better car in just a sour every way. More power, more versatility, better handling, you name it. My biggest complaint is the Eyesight system, and the touch screen stereo they used. Both are kinda buggy on mine, but I did get a first run of the '21s since I bought mine back in Sept. 2020
Thx for the invite I'm super stoked to get mine and start my journey! Great channel brother keep it up! And thx
Thanks!
That was meant to say input not invite lol
This is why I will never buy a used Subaru. Y'all drove the holy hell out of that car. Looks fun though.
It was :)
Are there areas on the car you can hook to if you need a tow, if you get stuck?
Yeah, I have front and rear recovery hooks.
Nice ....
Thanks
Rad!
Behind the scenes? Setting up these shots?
How is that CVT handling the off road fun? Do you have a transmission cooler?
Great so far! I do not, but it's probably going to be something I do, and defiantly before my next CO trip.
Nice! How much tire pressure do you put when you pass this trail? Did you lift and have a skid plate by this time?
Lift, no skids, 20psi
@@TheAdventureZombie Thanks for the info. The hardest trail I would go to is probably like the one in the video. I am actually deciding between a lift kit and a skid plate. If I can only pick one due to the budget, which one would you think is the best option? Could you share some thoughts? Thank you.
@@elginwang1572 I would probably go with a lift, and then skids right after. 2" of extra clearance helps a lot.
I wanna know where he got that roof basket.
It's a Thule Canyon XT cargo basket.
What cameras are you using to film stuff?
I use a GoPro Hero8 Black, and my iPhone 11 Pro Max
X mode at all? If so, which? Thx
Nope, no Xmode on this trail. But I do use it a lot. Always xmode 2, almost never 1.
So that looked like a hiking trail, or was it meant for vehicles as well?
Lol! Yeah, according to the sign anyway, haha! It's apparently a semi-popular little known Jeep trail.
Multimode travel is authorized.
what tire size and do they rub?
No rub, and tire size is in the description :)
hay, you need a chainsaw. LOL. Why not buy an electric saw, Check them out and maybe cinsider it. I am picking up the dewalt. Easy to carry the charger (I have a DIY power box with a mini inverter built it to charge the batteries). No mess with extra mix gas. Awesome job by your wife. She did great. I have my wife drive all the time. She is getting very good at off road driving and she really likes the size of the crosstrek vs my 4runners. Great video and Thank you for taking the time to make it
Haha! I knew that was leaving myself open there, lol! I've got one on the list of stuff to buy, but I have to prioritize. I don't NEED a chainsaw, I just want one to make things easier. Until then, I'll be getting my sweat on with my axe, ha! Thank you! It was a pretty awesome day out with my wife :)
Definitely get a battery powered chainsaw. They work great
Soon! Lol
Lol falling trees
Lol
Is this the sport or limited?
My bad I meant Premium edition?
It's the sport edition :)
It was not possible to turn around on that narrow trail if something could go wrong.
Yep, it was pretty hairy. Luckily, I have a lot of recovery, survival, and repair gear with me. Aside from breaking a major component I had us covered :p
👍👍👍 Красота
Thanks!
Soooo, they lied about difficulty rating.
If your going to be camping and trail running, sell that and get a proper vehicle.
If not, put a 3" strut lift and run 8 ply tyres so if you get in a bad area you won't be so prone to having to change the tyre in a terrible spot.
Also find your oil filter and either make it a remote system or put on a skid plate because it hangs really low!
Ok. So video flattens out the trail, I promise, that's a tough trail, and I'm ok with this vehicle, thanks. I'm working on getting a more capable suspension lift, and I do have 8 ply tires. Lastly, the oil filter is on the top of the motor, so I'm not sure where your getting your information, but I always appreciate being told what to do, let me tell ya.
The loud bad music ruined your video
Thanks! You're feedback is what I live for 🤣
Could've been a much more enjoyable video were it not for the awful choice of background "music". I'd much rather hear the branches and rocks interfacing with your car than listen to that ill-suited cacophony of generic mosh. Really, it was a major distraction.
Well, that's like your opinion... Man. - the Dude
