As a Subaru technician I want to thank you for making a video showing people how their vehicle functions work. A lot of shop time can be saved by people simply understanding their vehicle better.
Happy to help! 😊
Hello Alex. I am a 77-years old male in Miami, FL and I truly enjoy your videos. You speak very clearly and I have learned things about my 2019 Outback. I wish that when I win theLotto, I can go to your dealership and buy a new Outback. God bless
LOL! Just an hour ago I had this happen to me: “Why won’t the car start!!!!????” (even though all the lights came on, so it wasn’t my battery). Turns out my steering wheel was locked because I hurt my knee earlier today so I clung to the steering wheel for dear life when I got into the car. Figured out it was the steering wheel and unlocked it and the car started just fine. Of course, it happened in front of all my friends…. I came home and started watching your video and it was the first thing you mentioned. I sent the video to my friends, “Well, I guess I’m not the only one!”
I've had my Outback for two years now and I always pick up something from your videos. The whole PIN on the tailgate thing was new for me. I'll have to check it out.
helpful info..thans. FYI I've found that keyless subarus sometimes won't start if steering wheel is locked. simply turn and hold steering wheel to relieve locking pressure and then the subaru will start.
Was about to reply to say this as well. I have had this happen numerous times on my '24 outback.
Yeah, my wife discovered that with her 22 Legacy Limited XT. Fortunately, she was in the driveway, I was home and figured it out.
Omg i love you're videos! So much useful information. It makes me love my outback even more, i had no idea it had so many features.
I've had my 22 subi for a couple months now and these videos have helped me so much 😭😭 thank you for your simplified descriptions! Going from an older car to this I was overwhelmed with all the features hahaha I'm so glad I found this channel
Best "How To" video I've seen. Alex is professional and his video is spot-on. Can't wait to see more.
I have a 21 Subaru Forrester. I’m not a daily driver and I often mix up the cruise control with the lane assist buttons. Since I’m not using the cruise control a lot I seem to have difficulty with it. I’m learning more and more from your videos to be able to use my car better. Thank you for your CZcams channel and all the good information information you give.
Do you want to sell one to me? I have been driving a 2001 Pontiac some thing yeah it’s a old Hooptie and I really need a new car. I’m in Minneapolis. I was working hard, saving money trying to buy a new car. I don’t wanna spend tons of money on super expensive cars.
The lift gate information was really helpful to me. Thank you!
Alex, you are amazing! You give coherent, quick explanations using only one hand to change settings as you expertly shoot video with your other hand!
I love your videos. They are so helpful!❤
Thank you. I learn something new about my 23 Forester each time that I watch your videos.
I always learn something with every video you post . Happy Easter and have a blessed day .
Thanks. Just got a slightly used 2022 Forester Sport (6k miles). Loving it so far.
Always learn a ton from you're videos❤
Looking forward to revisiting this video. Good tips!
Thanks. I Just got my 2024 Outback Wilderness last week and have enjoy the info in this and the other videos you have created.
thanks a lot Alex, very good info 👍
Ever since I found out there are cloning devices you can buy to scan people's car fob remote, I almost always lock/unlock doors via touching the door handle method
I believe even if a cloner can gain access to the inside of your car, the actual fob has to be in proximity to start the engine! It's part of the standard anti theft. Just don't leave your valuables inside if that's your concern? Ever had your glass broken?
Don’t they use a rolling code or whatever to avoid this problem?
Thanks Alex always appreciate all your tips!!🤗
Thank you Alex. Very informative. I picked up my Outback Onyx Edition on Monday.
Thanks Alex. Looking to get a new car and it was very helpful to see some of the features of the Subarus.
Always a great tutorial! This car has so many features...
This has been SO helpful!!!!
Excellent video! Thanks so much.
I figured out how to lock it by touch but always mess up unlocking, so this is a good refresher (new owner of a ‘24 CT Limited)
I enjoy how you break it down...the videos u make have helped me figure the how two's of my 2022 sport subie..thanks Alex 🙂
Excellent video! Thank you.
Thanks for the tips!
Very good info Alex
Thank you, these are all helpful 😊
Thanks Alex! I always enjoy your great teaching skills! :) I have a manual lift gate which astonished me after buying that it has NO button to lift the hatch!....I'm an Uber driver and it's so annoying to have to get out of the car and lift the hatch for people....! I just tell myself that it's good exercise. lol
Great tips, thanks!
Excellent!!
I can't wait to get one of those outbacks. i might come to your dealership just buy one from you guys.
We bought our first Subaru, a 2023 Outback, two days ago. I'm glad I found this channel, it's loaded with valuable information!
I have a 23 as well. It's be a great vehicle!
Thanks from Australia !
Thanks this is very very helpful and i learned a lot about suburus and the mistakes that i dont want to make when i do get a suburu i love the steering wheel lock Feature on the suburu forester..
Awesome brother, picked up my 24 Crosstrek Friday and am watching all your videos. 🤘
Alex’s videos are amazing for new Subaru owners! I recommend the vids to all my friends with Subarus.
Alex, I really like your channel. The content is very valuable, and explained in an easy precise way. You earned a sub! We just picked up a lightly used 2023 Outback Limited, and you have really helped with the car. In the future, do you plan to discuss aftermarket options (engine, drivetrain, esthetic etc) that are available? Thanks
awesome man thanks!
This is real helpful
Maybe stop doing these videos right next to the storm drain that you almost dropped the keys into a couple of years ago😂. Love the vids! I can read the manual, but it's better to watch everything as it's explained. Thank you!!!
I have a Base 2023 Forester and I think the physical button that the Forester has for Lane departure makes way more sense. Most of the time I leave it on but if I'm about to drive through a construction zone I can just reach up and shut it off. Having a physical climate control knobs as well was one of the reasons I bought that car
Alex: what an excellent video. I worked at AAA in the 90s and people were ALWAYS calling me for a tow truck because their steering wheel was “locked up” and I had to walk them through how to jiggle it back and forth while turning the key. No CZcams back then but excellent start to your video!!!
Thank you!
I have a 2012 Legacy that is nearing the end of it's life. We plan on replacing it with a Forester or and Outback so we have more ground clearance and the ability to actually carry bigger things. This was really helpful.
I had the steering wheel lock up on my 81 Subaru GL. We were about to give up and take another car when I accidentally released it. It is actually a common plight that I have seen on other cars. I just got a 24 Forester so I’m really using these videos a lot. .
It would be helpful for older folks like me if you would explain things on the display panel a little slower. Thanks.
The hands free tailgate is very helpful, but you have to be careful if you are washing your car and the fob is in your pocket. There's a good chance the tailgate will open while you are spraying water on the car.
I just picked up my outback Saturday, washed it Sunday, and had that happen lol.
Probably be a good idea to use the lift gate "deactivate" switch he told you about before you turn on the water 🤔
I toss my fob in the cup holder when I wash. Car will never lock itself.
These are so helpful as I bought a used Subaru from a ford dealer . Now to figure out the “my Subaru” app .its not recognizing my vin yet
I have a 2023 Ascent limited and I didn’t know half of the things you have taught on your channel. I look forward to learning more.
Thank you
very helpful
Alex, Could talk about checking the transmission fluid on the new Subaru's. Thanks I enjoy your video's
I put my EZPass transponder just below the black frits on the front windshield and centered between the two cameras. No issues.
Ahh i have used the steering wheel as a entry handle many times. At 6'3" and 230lbs is not always a easy entry into my 2013 Impreza ! How about videos on older Subaru's.
Great information your Subaru tips were great information please keep up your great work!
Plan on buying a forester 2024 or 2023 this coming fall and these tidbits will help me a lot and not overwhelm the salesperson. Please post more “ need to know” vids.
I highly recommend asking if your local Subaru retailer has an Encore Delivery Specialist. Our entire purpose is to make sure you are confident and comfortable in your new Subaru 🙂
I'VE NEVER BEEN SO CONFUSED! 😲
Btw, loved today’s video. Does the 2019 Crosstrek have the tailgate setting and the passcode features?
Thank you Alex, with all those handy hints. I own a new WRX and i'm still working out all of the dash tablet features 🤔 Au
Happy to help! Hope you’re enjoying your WRX so far! 😎
@@alexpmo Yes I am Alex, it is more quiet to drive with much less tyre road noise, my previous 2016 and 2020 WRX were very noisey on course road surface, even after fitting Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres ? 🤔 Au
The power liftgate will not open if the engine is running, or if the auxiliary power is still on (You shut off the engine but music is still playing) - you have to open the door before you can open the gate. Rather inconvenient if you're doing a grocery pick-up or have another reason to want to remain in the vehicle but open the gate. Also the lane centering will literally jerk your steering wheel, sometimes causing the car to swerve. My '21 Forester did that to me when there was a widening of the highway for a side road approach. I quickly figured out how to turn that off.
I have a '22 Outback Limited and the power liftgate will not open with the engine running and in gear, but it will open with the engine running and the car in park.
My 2019 ascent ... The power tailgate opens with the car running and in park ... you need to hold the button down
Yes lift gate opens when engine is running, we just need to hold the button
Why not turn off the car? It seems somewhat rude to blow your exhaust at the loader. And I can open my rear gate with accessories still playing (‘22 forester)
Learn how to signal and the wheel won't jerk like that. Also, the lift gate _does_ open with the engine running.
I normally lock my car with either the back of my hand or my elbow depending on how full my hands are. And I don’t like the alternate locks on top or bottom of the handle.
A lot of cars have had locking steering wheels since the 80s maybe earlier. I never realized this was news to people.
Nice video
Where do you suggest putting a dash cam in the Forester?
I use the PIN feature and lock my key in the car often. I really like this feature. Recently thought of this, but how do you regain access to the vehicle if the battery is dead?
Found the tail gate part about setting how much to open helpful. Learned something new. Also, I like how my mirrors fold in when I lock the vehicle. Gives me a little peace knowing the vehicle is locked by looking at it.
There's a backup power reserve that holds enough stored power to open locks in case the main starter battery dies. It also holds all your presets ie: radio, drivers seat, etc if the battery dies or is disconnected.
I have tried and tried, but even though the key is definitely asleep (I have tested in on the outside), when I try and lock it in the car, the door just opens again when I pull the handle, even though I locked the car with the button in the door. There must be a setting I have inadvertently chosen that interferes with this perhaps? Ideas? (2024 Outback)
@@heikemotzek5954 I just went out and did a couple tests. 1) I tried to lock the key in my 2024 Outback without it going to sleep. I locked the door and closed it. The Outback complained and unlocked the door. 2) I put the FOB to sleep, put it in the car and closed the door. It worked. Key is in car and door is locked. 3) I also tried what you wrote, I put key to sleep, placed in car and clicked on the lock button on the door. That worked too.
Not sure why you need to click the door button to lock it. For my Outback, when I put the key to sleep, it locks all the doors automatically. I don't have to push the lock button on the door. Maybe you're pressing the unlock button by mistake?
Other thoughts, is this feature only available in certain countries? Is the key FOB battery low? - I wouldn't think so since you have a 2024 Outback too.
My suggestion - go to the dealership and ask for assistance. Or, if they are a bit far, give them a call but I think visiting in person would be the best case.
I'm interested in any updates you may have / if it gets resolved and how.
@@heikemotzek5954 Another thought - when I put my key to sleep, I typically have one of the doors open. I usually put it to sleep at the tailgate since I try to hide my key back there.
By chance, are all your doors closed (or the door your using is closed) when you put the key to sleep? If so, that might be the issue. If you're outside the vehicle, put the key to sleep and then use it to open the door, the key is no longer asleep. The key wakes up when any of the buttons on the key is pressed.
Just thinking through some scenarios of why it doesn't work for you.
I've recently acquired a 2016 Outback Limited with Eyesight. I'm planning on mounting a dashcam behind the mirror. Can the cables be run over the top of one of the Eyesight lenses without damaging it? Or is it better to run the cables against the windshield at the top edge of the lense?
EyeSight disables when there is commonly no camera view. Usually in really dense fog or times when general visibility is that of only a small distance in front of the car.
Hi Alex, thank you for the detailed information. I have the 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness. It has park assist in the rear, but I didn’t see any on the front. Seems odd, as the camera shows the rear. Is there anything the covers the front? I pulled in close I to the garage, waiting for a beep, but nothing. I ended up being about an inch away.
I love the power lift gate feature; I HATE that I can't turn off the key fob control for it. I've come out of the house way too many times since I bought the car in late November to the tailgate wide open, once in the middle of a snowstorm. Now I'm taking my keys out of my pocket as soon as I walk into my house, as I'm sure it's a matter of the button being pressed as I sit or move around - but I'd like to keep the power lift gate functionality, while disabling the remote open capability from the key fob. I found a reference online to an option that exists in the vehicle software that a dealership can access to do this, but in that thread many people indicated they had been told by their dealerships that this wasn't possible. What do you recommend?
My 2024 Ascent turn signal stays stuck on after I completed the turn, do I need to bring the car to the dealership as it should still be under warranty, or is there a quick fix? Thank you.
how do I get the shortcut AVH button on the bottom row of my home screen by the limit controls in my 2024 impreza?
Do you have a list of videos on the 2019 Ascent?
I'm having trouble connecting Pandora on on 2021 Forester. Can you assist with that?
5:29 my Sienna works the same way, if I just push once the button, it doesn't open the tailgate, I need to hold it some seconds, the bad thing is that the button is next to the "Panic" button 🤣🤣
I hate the handle touch, and it unlocks. It's impossible to check the cars locked with the keys on you. The only way to physically check the door is locked is putting the keys down on the ground! I want to check my doors locked! Plus, wants the point of push button start? Now I dont have a sensible place to keep the keys while driving. Keys in cup holder scratch the shit out of the plastic etc
Or check the back drivers door…
I have a 24 Outback Onyx. One question. When I have groceries I often put them in the back seat. Is there a way to open the backseat doors without the fob? I have found I have to either use the proximity thing to open the front door then I have to set things down and push the unlock button in the front door to open the back. Or take fob out of pocket and push unlock button. Thanks!
Hi Alex! Question about the rear power liftgate on my '19 Outback 3.6. If I want to raise/lower the liftgate the "old school" way - by manually lifting and lowering the liftgate with my hand - will that damage the electric motor that's intended to performs these functions automatically?
On another vehicle I had a deer run into the side. Vehicle got parked a bit too long for the battery’s liking and I did find myself locked out. The only side to enter by key was the driver side door, which was crushed by the deer, and wouldn’t open far enough to get in. It was a real unhappy awakening.
Thanks for the detailed information, although it does feel like there's a lot of stuff that can go wrong. We have a 2017 Outback Premium. No power liftgate, no sunroof, no lane centering, MPI instead of GDI, far fewer touch-screen functions. I wonder if Subaru would build us a new 2017 when the time comes to replace it? 🤔
Hello Alex , thank You for Your Great Video. I am the owner of Subaru Outback 2022 and wonder If there is an option to close the Windows in the car , when car is locked by the key? I have seen such option in other cars ? Have a Nice Day
How about doing a video on the nationwide parts shortage on subaru replacement parts? I got rear-ended in January, and they still have no ETA on when the parts will be available.
Hi Alex - considering purchasing a 2024 Outback. Wondering how the screen handles sunlight? Some cars friends have sunlight badly washes out screen.
I’ve been doing research on Subaru’s for a good month now and this is the first I’m hearing of the secret PIN code. Is this standard across all models/trims?
Alex, I have a 2024Subaru Legacy Premium
Sometimes When I touch the double lines on my car's handle it does NOT lock , I have to use my fob. ( which is usually in derp in my bag).
Can you think of what I might be doing inccorrectly , of some reason the touch lock wouldn't work? It has happened on three different occassions, teo of them in the same location.
Thanks for whatever insights you may have for me.
What is the best OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner to use for a 2023 Subaru Outback?
I have an OBW with push button start and the steering wheel has locked and prevented the car from starting. There is a message on the dash "steering wheel locked" and as Alex mentioned just move the wheel a little to the right and it will start.
First, thank you for your videos, very informative. You always say to ask questions and you will try to answer, so here is one: how do i know if my 2023 forester limited has auto rain sensor? I looked through the manuals, cannot find any answer. I'll check in couple of days if you find answer. Thank you again.
Hey there, unfortunately none of the Foresters have rain sensing wipers, currently. Any Subaru with that feature has an "AUTO" option on the intermittent knob (the ridged ring located just right-of-center on your wiper control switch). Hope that helps.
Thank you for sharing these tips! I have one problem with Apple car play & iPhone 15 MAX. Our phones are connected to the Apple care play except one device. My wife's iPhone 15 max pro. I tried all troubleshooting that I could find on CZcams or Apple site, yet we still have an issue with this particular iPhone. when it connect we can hear audio only with no other connection, like maps, etc. Do you have any recommendations? My car is 2020 Legacy Touring XT.
I appreciate your videos very much; however , I wish you would say what year/model Subaru you are in. Some models are very different and it is confusing, especially for us mature adults, when computer screens, etc. don’t match up.
My Toyota Avalon had a nice feature where you could push once to unlock the driver's door only or twice to unlock all doors. Wish Subaru would implement something like this.
Not sure if you know this, but by default, it will only unlock the driver's door. However, if you go into your Car settings, you can change that to unlock all doors (very handy for families). It's not the push once, push twice option (my old Altima had that too), but at least you can change it.
On the wheel lock there has been a few times on my 23 Ascent the wheel locks and the push button wont work, so I have to pull to the left or right and put most of my body weight on it to get the button to work.
I'm a new 2024 Outback Touring owner. Is there a setting for the BSD to create a tone/audible alert along with the amber light on the mirror only when you turn your turn indicator on and there's a car in the BSD area?
It’s there a way to adjust the LDC? I feel my vehicle is really close to the right lane when I’m using the cruise control. Me the driver is on top of the center line of my lane.
is there a way to disable the DRL? I have not found any LEDS with will not flicker at 7.5VDC
I have a subaru crosstrek 2024, i would like to ask the proper way to on engine and off the engine? Thanks
I have a 22 Outback in Australia, love it so much, does anyone know if there is an update for the infotainment screen ? mine seems to be the version it came with.
Yes there should definitely be an update available, check with your local retailer 😊
My 2020 Outback with push button start still cannot start without unlocking a locked steering wheel. I was stumped when this first happened, but figured it out quickly.
I have a 2022 Outback. I noticed that it revs up quite a bit when you initially turn on the engine. It might run for a minute or two at 2,000 rpms before slowly getting back down to a "normal" rpm level. Do I need to wait for the rpms to decrease before shifting to drive or reverse?
