I’m in a 9-5 tech job and working to scale a side hustle
Thanks! Very interesting!
You're very welcome! I appreciate the comment :)
@JoshBurnsTech Thank you so much for this content and your transparency. Very helpful and inspiring.
You're very welcome and love to hear that! :)
Thanks for everything, You're the best ❤
I appreciate that and you're very welcome! :)
Thank you Josh, always got benefit from your experience. Is there will be updated video for cover letters on Upwork and what happened recently in the marketplace?
You're welcome! This is the most recent cover letter video on my channel: czcams.com/video/dOVtO9JVLVY/video.html
@@JoshBurnsTech thank you Josh. I would like a video about Upwork recent changes
Thank you Josh for the great content! I find it very useful. I'm just starting my first side hustle as a web designer on upwork
You're very welcome, Oren! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. There's definitely a lot of demand for web design work on Upwork.
Thanks man ❤
You're welcome! :)
Hello , I have a remote job as a property management assistant. It’s almost full time 6 hours daily. I have received invitations in upwork for full time jobs and I mentioned that I am available less that 30 hours a week . Should I write my availability on mi profile ?
Hi Rosa! Great question. So, I also had a full-time job when I started freelancing. I've always had my availability set to "as needed open to offers" on Upwork. I would recommend going with that option or less than 30 hours per week. Hope this helps! :)
Bless you man.
Appreciate you!
After your video, it took me about 2 weeks to land my first Upwork job and now in 3-month time I almost made 1k. thanks man
That's great to hear, Yohanes! You're a perfect example of "taking action" and not constantly consuming. Keep up the work!
Following ❤
Appreciate you! :)
Man thank you for upwork lessons . You helped me to win my first jop🎉🎉👋🤝
You're very welcome and I love to hear that! Keep up the work 🔥
I've a question about upwork invite hope you'll reply.
If I decline invites so will I get fewer invites than?
Now Upwork charges for inviting jobs to apply if a job doesn't fit my skills or anything else so what should I do?
Thank you
No, it will not affect how many new invites that you get. You should always decline invites that don't align with your skills.
@@JoshBurnsTech Thanks so much
@@asantamzid You're welcome!
Upwork charging for accepting invites is proof that it's a greedy greedy platform. Pay for everything. Damn it's disgusting

Great video. As someone who's been struggling with the job market I've been looking for some solid advice on alternative income streams. The idea of going freelance is kind of intimidating for a newcomer but this has given me a few ideas for new approaches to try.
There are a couple of topics I'd be interested in hearing about your opinions on.
Firstly, I've heard it said that as a freelancer you should stick to a single field or niche on platforms like Upwork and Fiver. Would you say this is true? I have experience in programming and video editing that I would be interested in taking into the freelancing market. Am I better off sticking to one?
Secondly, what's your advice on promotion and reaching different markets? Especially for things like selling digital products.
Great questions!
Yes, I would start with one platform and go all-in. Create a great profile, portfolio, set up an RSS feed for job alerts, learn how to write good proposals, etc. I actually started on Freelancer (dot com) back in 2015 before switching to Upwork in 2016 because of the higher demand and pay.
My recommendation would be focusing on creating content. Otherwise, you would need to promote the product on a marketplace, run ads for it, etc. I'm a fan of building an audience on CZcams, social media, etc. and then eventually creating digital products after you have a reputation and credibility.
Thanks for the response!
Just to make sure I understand fully, you'd recommend just picking one field (either programming or editing) and focusing entirely on that?
@@GuyShrigley-pq8gs Yes, that's what I would personally do. Espeically with those skill sets being so different. Plus you can go all-in on that skill set and figure out the best way to get repeat clients and scale.
@@JoshBurnsTech Awesome. Thanks again for the advice and keep on with the videos. You're one of the few creators in this category that don't seem to be selling some sort of pyramid scheme lol.
@@GuyShrigley-pq8gs You're welcome and thank you! lol I do my best to give practical advice from my personal experience.
Thanks alot from Egypt 🇪🇬 ❤please keep this calm tone as my english not so good
I don't believe I can change it so you're in luck LOL

Thanks for the recommendation!
Hey,josh I appreciate your idea it is valuable, so I am work since four year full-time employee and the monthly salary is not enough so after I watch your videos I decided to start freelance but one thing is difficult for me how can I start and How can I find client
Hi Mahlet! I recommend watching the videos in this playlist: czcams.com/play/PL2RRbYdV_lUSJ_9B0EqnITq_KaS1PlGSE.html&si=koMaTHufyQydXN2I
Mr josh I'm always waiting for your great content.
I have an uncomfortable 9-5 job.
I am an electrical engineer and in my 4 years Upwork journey I hardly made 3k+ as the most work is acedamic and low paying. I have sent 800+ proposals.
Thanks,
What is your freelance skill set in and what is your Upwork job title? How much demand is there for it? What is the pay ceiling (top earning freelancer with your skill set in your geographic location)?
@@JoshBurnsTech my skills are related to electrical engineering software simulations (Matlab , Etap etc).
Upwork title: Electrical low voltage and high voltage modeling and simulations.
The demand is low. And the prices and earnings of ther freelancers is low.
I am developing new skills like python.
One other thing I noticed from your this video.
This video is not solely related to Upwork. Does it mean Upwork is getting down now a days compared to 2021.
@@knowledgecenter5396 It sounds like demand will be very low for your skill set. So yeah I think it would be a good idea to pivot into a freelance skill that has a better combination of demand + pay
@@knowledgecenter5396 No, Upwork is still my largest income stream. But I think it's best to have multiple income streams, so that you're not solely reliant on one platform. If something horrible happens with Upwork or my account, I won't lose all of my income.
Trying to land a job on Upwork, profile is optimized, portfolio is good. Very close to closing my first deal.
I am a student and want to achieve great things, God Willing.
Keep up the work and discipline 🔥
@@JoshBurnsTech Thanks, Your content is helping and keeping me motivated 🤙🏼
