  • In this episode of Minutes With, former city trader Gary Stevenson reveals more about his extraordinary life making millions as the world's best trader in London. Despite being expelled from school at age 16, Gary persisted and won his dream job in a global bank by mastering a card game, even though it was rigged against him. In this episode, Gary reveals how it feels to win $35 million betting on an economic downturn, the bizarre ways millionaires act on the trading floor and why he walked away from banking to warn the world about rising wealth inequality. A while back, I put money I needed for emergencies into investments, hoping for quick gains. It backfired, and I lost a lot. Now, I'm much more intentional with my investments, only using money I can afford to lose. It's taught me to prioritize my financial security and be cautious with investments. Can't deny the fact that Abel Dorsey is the strongest bet to bring power back to this industry after we suffered FTX, Celsius, Tera and so on. Sure if they fail it's done for good, but I don't see that the biggest tech company in the world would put everything at risk just for that.

Unfortunately trading isn't for me... I've had too many unsuccessful attempts in the past.
My wife and I have a budget, but we rarely use it whatsoever. That doesn't mean we spend frivolously. We buy most groceries that we want on sale most of the time, we rarely upgrade our tech, and we each have hobbies that we monitor closely. If anything, the budget is mostly for hobby stuff, but we always underspend according to the budget just because we don't look at it as a meter that should be filled.

I started taking bigger risks, thinking I could keep winning. But then, everything changed in just one week. The market took a turn, and suddenly, all my gains were wiped out. I appreciate you and your content < Technical Analysis is good but I find It truly baffling that major crypto youtubers just look mostly at pure T.A and completely ignore the bigger narrative of why BTC is pumps/pumped and why the future outlook will be even rosier than it seems. It's kinda irresponsible to ignore the fact that each ETF launch so far has caused a major dump at the peaks of BTC. We were already on shaky footing with historically low volume and almost pure whale pumps, narrowly avoiding a long-term bear market. More emphasis should be put into day trading as it is less affected by the unpredictable nature of the market. I have made over 27 btc from Abel Dorsey insights and charts, its been one step ahead of other analysis….

    • @kalorakalora

Efficient market hypothesis to whatever degree you think. As a TA trader I tend to think just about 95% of the time that major shifts in valuation follow price action, and not the other way around. The news that we see in the afternoon that explains why such and such stock popped on great earnings won't help you make money. But understanding beforehand what direction the price is likely to move in regardless of what earnings look like will. Every major crash in history has been preceeded by the classic price action signs of impending doom - Tulip Mania, IMF, 08. Hell, even 9/11, being a totally "unforeseeable" one time external shock event. Go look at the NASDAQ charts - things started tumbling long before the jets hit. Strange isn't it? One could make an argument that most financial crises have long-term setups and that is why they are priced in with crashes happening after a peak crescendo, gradual distribution, the beginning of the tumble, and then free fall of the actual crash. But how then, is it possible that, were we to strip away the dates at the bottom, 9/11 too, looks exactly the same as any other crash in terms of setup and effect. Probably because markets, while never fully theoretically efficient, are played by those with asymmetric access to information. Savy players in the know or who have done correct analysis start to move pieces during accumulation and distribution phases to profit during boom and doom phases. It seems unreasonable to me that information on the attack did not reach some parties who acted to ensure their own profits. The graphical representation of price as a function of greed and fear has, and likely always will, look the same for as long as we still are humans. Expansion and contraction, sine and cosine, excitation and inhibition... are these not the most basic principles that govern all things in our universe, from the behavior of atoms to the behavior of markets? This is all a convoluted way for me to say that I believe our natural universe largely dictates the way we as parts of that universe act, trade, and invest and, as I see it, the graphical representation of universal principles at play seems to cut a lot closer to unfiltered reality than whatever explanations the news will give you as to why something happened after it already happened and you have lost the opportunity to make money from it. Of course, we are not a perfect market, so shocks and unforeseen things do cause some level of effect in price action, but I personally feel that it is a fool's model to try to understand what macro events will happen and more importantly, what effect they will have. And indeed, almost every time, these macro events and even shocks have many signs that precede them actually taking place. We may not know what form the events will take, but we can position ourselves for the inevitable event. I'd rather be profitable than well-informed on a news and economic level

Yes, truly, investing in the market, even if it's just the S&P 500, can keep up with inflation, because the growth rate of stocks will always exceed the inflation rate. But if you don't have the courage, you could just invest with a financial advisor, which even has greater return on investments, while securing your investment against losses.

Yeah, people actually make much from the market, although they usually have more expertise than average, or they use experts i.e hedge funds or fin.advisers. There's a goldmine in the market and that's why almost every rich person buys into it one way or another.

I know people who made millions, people who made a couple of thousands and people who lost money. I do believe with you can make safely money with investing but it needs LOADS of research. I know some of my bets will bring 2-3 times my investment but very often i need to wait literally years to see the economy turn around. 2022, 2023 i basically only lost money and my bet is that we finally see good opportunies through 2025. This is again the time when people accumulate wealth, then again few shitty years to come.

Reminds me of those continuous movies that get spun out.... That American one about the women getting insider info. And then the Korean one... about the deal making, and knew about the back ground info etc. Well... now everybody knows everybody else from social media. What exactly is there to know ? lol..... "Standard" of living ? No living more like. lol. So many NGOs... I recently asked a super dumb question.... "if one of the financial city, like HK... is now gone.... and that they are receiving in NGOs.... then where are the companies gone to" ??...... "I thought that only third world countries, would receive NGOs and charities."..... So then it means we rolled upwards. And that now, Oligarchs are as big as banks. Hence, why in the past, private banks were created to shield away from the chaos. And why some countries never had banking. So then they have wealth family offices instead.... I suppose, this is a better way.
And the reality ? The reality is also that... those families will help their own families as well... so ... therefore, they would make their next of kin, with their lives much much easier.... i.e. To do simpler jobs. Hence, why we always import in actual migrants, right ? Cos it is their actions and movements, that make the situation too... Similar to the war...
