The Birds star Tippi Hedren intentionally took part in a 90s tv movie sequel of The Birds, starring a former mens underwear model, because she knew it was going to be a horrible movie.
She still hasn't gotten over how badly Hitchcock treated her during the original and wanted to take a potshot at him. Not everybody's crazy over the guy, I guess.
And yeah, that sequel is all kinds of bad.
It also makes it more interesting for the listener 😉
@@skylx0812 She also appeared in a scene in the James Nguyen movie "Julie and Jack", which featured a bird or birds in a cage, in a nod to the Hitchcock film. I believe her scene was also set in Bodega Bay, though I could be wrong on that last part.

Denny’s first in-universe appearance was in Terrorvision; when was happy with being asked if he was a part of his parents swingers’ party.
The reason the movie took 10 years after the last one is because the actors got stuck in their comically oversized test tubes and the director had to grow a new batch.

You know, as much as we all love this channel and Mark's takes on some of the weirdest and/or downright god-awful movies around, I keep wishing he'd consider having a separate channel for bona fide classics, maybe a "get to know your classics" kind of thing; the sequence where he explains why Hitchcock's "The Birds" is so effective was my absolute favorite in this video and I really enjoyed the clear and precise manner in which he did it. You can really tell his knowledge and love of film goes way beyond the low-budget stuff.
Yes, that was a genuinely interesting segment. Not to mention that little clip of crows landing on a metal bar was far more tense than the entirety of "Birdemic 3".

Not gonna lie Mark, the middle portion where you go fairly in depth and break down Hitchcock and his strengths in "The Birds" was really, really well done and super interesting. I'd actually really like to see some videos from you where you do this with other directors and some of their greatest (or your favorite) films. I think you'd have a hit on your hands, dude, you obviously know what you're talking about and your passion shines through!
Hitchcock is actually very easy to comprehend and explain. Everything he did had a purpose, was artistically sound, and most of all-MADE PERFECT SENSE.
For real, it reminded me of when Mark was breaking down the original Jurassic Park in his Dominion review and I also liked it a lot!

I had no idea this was even a thing, I heard some rumors but no post or article or trailer.
It is almost impossible to not progress in a thing while doing it for so long. It's like a kind of art in itself...
I remember when he was raising money for this monstrosity. He took the wrong lesson from the first movie. People were like it was so bad we feel sorry for him but he doubled down on it and now triple down
He kinda didn't take the wrong lesson from the first movie. there is no universe were you could convince me that with Birdemic 2 they didn't realize the first was bad and leaned into it with the sequel.....If anything it seems like he forgot that people ironically watched the first 2 because they were hilariously bad and Birdemic 2 knew that.
He said in a recent interview that he's in on the joke now, but he admitted that he was really trying to make a serious movie with the 1st one. But now it's a joke & he knows it & he said he's fine with it because at least he can provide amusement for his audience. He said he's going to franchise it like Child's Play
Well birdemic 3 is better than a certain terrible reboot to a horror movie.
You would think he would learn how to write dialogue better.

I don't think anyone believes they're perfect. It's like Sharknado but worse somehow. They know what they're doing. People are going to watch it because it's so bad, like Velma.
Nguyen made the first Birdemic with genuine intentions. It doesn't matter if people think the sequels are pieces of canine fecal matter and cynical products made to tap into that weird niche of bad movie lovers, the purest intentions spawned this whole franchise!
The true question is if James Nguyen is an actual alien...😅

The sad part is that with that self awareness, you at least expect the exposition and messaging to be palatable and natural
I feel like the Birdemic franchise is about continuingly remaking the same movie over and over again, each time adding some ever so slight improvement, until by somewhere around Birdemic 453 they finally get it right and it's actually the decent final product of a watchable movie that they intend to make, and all previous editions where just part of the crafting process...
The poor girl looks so bored on that date. You can almost hear her thoughts " why I did I agree to do this?" I hope she got paid and isn't in this to help her friend.

Space elevators require materials that might not be physically possible, but they’re a really cool idea.
Vertigo is based on a really good French novel that’s somewhat different and definitely worth a read on its own.
Does the novel explain how he survives hanging off the rain gutter?
I once used Birdemic in an essay as a positive example of how filmmaking is so much more accessible for people. Now I’m beginning to regret using that example. I didn’t even know there WAS a Birdemic 3
Seeing movies and actors like these makes me believe that I would have been at least a not bad actor, and had a chance to make some money, I just can't see these people ever getting hired again.
They were not allowed to act any differently. They took the job because they were paid to and did exactly as the director asked them to. I doubt any of them will use clips from this movie for any auditions in the future because they know exactly how bad it was but the actors had literally no control over that.

When I heard Nguyen was looking for financing for Birdemic 3, if I'd had the money I would've invested in it just to be on set to see how his mind works. At least this one had the usual staples of really long, awkward walking scenes and shots of cars driving and parking. His films are fascinating, like watching a train crash in slow motion.
Birdemic 3: The Search for More Money
A simple line change- "I love when James Stewart let's Kim Novak run to the tower and fall to her death in Vertigo." would have been great character development.

I grew up in Santa Cruz so it's fun for me to watch the exterior shots and remember these places. The restaurant at 4:32, the Blue Dolphin, has some amazing calamari and clam chowder. And you can look down at the sea lions that live under the wharf. That's why there's that group of people gathered in the background when they're at the table. Man, I miss that place. Movie's awful though.
Yep, normally Mark's summaries are all I need when it comes to the Birdemic franchise, but as another homesick member of the Santa Cruz diaspora, I guess I'm gonna have to actually drop the 3 bucks to watch this one.

So to sum up each film:
Birdemic1: Sheer ineptitude the movie.
Birdemic2: Self-Aware bullsh*t that assumes it doesn't have to try because 'it's meant to stupid' the movie.
Birdemic3: conversations about Global-Warming & Alfred Hitchcock claiming to be a movie... The movie.
Fun fact: Nguyen was on a Vice interview in 2016 saying that Birdemic 3 was the last movie he'll direct and wanted to crowdfund the movie. He tried Indiegogo to reach a $500,000 goal but only got $596 and he then tried Kickstarter for a $230,000 goal and only got $230.
So, he only got $826 in total...which might be the whole budget for this sequel. LOL
Not only is this video hilarious (for good reasons), the tribute to the master, Alfred Hitchcock, was just awe inspiring. Nicely done, Mark!

Interesting thing is that guys like Ed Wood were terrible at making movies, yet you could still see the fun and joy coming through them. Movies like this and Neil Breen's stuff are just joyless train wrecks. I would even watch stuff like "The Room" or "Manos" or "Troll 2" ten times over this lifeless pontificating.
Bride of the Monster, Plan 9 from Outer Space, The Violent Years, The Sinister Urge, all so delightfully entertaining, especially when the guys from MST3K/Rifftrax are watching with you.

That’s the question I have in all areas: Art, politics, science, etc. How much is accident and how much is intended? I want to agree with you, that this filmmaker is purposefully making “bad” movies. I’d like to know what the actors actually think. Are they aware or unaware of the relative quality of what they did? Are they all in on the joke?

I do remember hearing that Birdemic 2 & 3 were "bad on purpose" movies. Like, Nguyen was still trying to make a legit film, but the producers knew exactly what they were doing.

In interviews he said he really did start out trying to make good artistic films. He said for the 1st birdemic, he thought he was making a true thriller but now he's in on the joke. He said in a recent interview about this film that as long as he can provide 90 minutes to keep the audience laughing then he's happy. He said he went to the reshowing of the first Birdemic and he saw how everyone was laughing and shouting out the lines of the film in mockery & he said although that 1st movie was truly unintentional bad humor, he said he is completely fine with it & wants to make it into a franchise like Child's Play.

I don't know if I'm happy or sad that Whitney Moore isn't in this one. I think her and Tippi Hedren are the only two people to ever appear in a James Nguyen movie who could actually deliver a line (I guess technically Christopher Reeves also appeared in one of his movies), and seemed like she had the potential to have a real acting career.

The bizarre thing is, in this digital age, all of the visual issues could easily be corrected with a few clicks of a mouse.

Mark's appearance not matching the actor in that scene kinda makes sense to me, it plays along with the inconsistency of the movie.
