So as far as the “Bond being poisoned” you have to remember was that it was engineered to spread through touch. So even if HE never could touch her and he tried to wait out a cure, what if he touched someone else who touched someone else etc etc until it eventually got to his daughter and killed her. Remember the prison scene with Blofeld? She barely brushed his hand and he transmitted it to him and then he died within a minute. THATS the reason he let himself die. To have no risk. He didn’t touch anyone else after getting scratched with it. So he took the safe route and just made sure he was destroyed.

The "venom" were nanobots, right? Why they thought of machineguns from a car lights and not a simple EMP device to kill these bots? Everything electric would have been fried and they were so tiny to probably cause almost 0 dmg to the body if that were the case. Also if bots were made, they could make other bots to kill the previous ones... heck, even make them fail because of a Windows 11 installation blocked from the lacking of a TPM would have worked. But i guess they had to have an excuse to end a character. Now we should legit not have ANY future James Bond protagonists and that makes me go crazy, 007 alwais were James Bond.

I figured the racist scene was there because
    A) It’s impossible to have a black character and not make it about race at least once
    B) People these days legit think that creating bio weapons, betraying your colleagues and friends and assisting terrorist organizations is less evil than being racist. The characters seem to think so as well, because she was making a huge deal about bringing him into MI6’s custody, but when he brought that up, it was suddenly not important to take him anymore.

The part about Bond being able to go on isn't accurate. They mention in the film that Hercules can pass through people harmlessly until it reaches its intended target. So even if bond never saw his girlfriend and daughter, interacting with literally anyone else could potentially pass the virus to them.

For example even when he washes his hands the sink water will likely carry his skin cells which have become coated by nanobots into the water supply thus ending up who knows where. The bots were farmed in water so we know they can survive intense circumstances. You claim Bond can just live a solitary life, fine, but there is literally no way to physically exist on Earth without having some part of you spread. It's definitely weird to think about but that's kind of what makes this movie "sci-fi".

@@greenjelloe418 That's why the Heracles weapon is the most preposterous/powerful weapon ever introduced in the history of James Bond films. But if there's a way to beat it, James Bond will find it. That's why he's James Bond. I refuse to accept that he would commit suicide. I liked Craig as Bond but I'm surprised that he would agree to let his character go out this way. It was not a good sendoff. It did not have an emotional impact on me. It just left me confused, annoyed, and scratching my head.
Not nearly as bad as what The Last Jedi did with Luke Skywalker but still bad enough to leave a sour taste in my mouth. The main character doesn't always have to die to create emotional profundity.

    • @greenjelloe418
      @greenjelloe418 Před 2 lety +11

@@cardinalrule6810 Valid criticisms. I just think the biggest issue in the public discourse right now is that some people aren't fully comprehending the power of Heracles but admittedly the film didn't do the best job at getting that across.
And as far as the emotional impact goes, it appears to me that the younger audience responded more positively to the ending than the older folk, in general. I myself am in my 20's and really enjoyed the film and it's ending. Maybe to us Bond is more of a paternal type figure than a "cool guy". Or maybe I'm overanalyzing. Anyway I appreciate your measured response lol.

the ironic thing here - is that us Bond fans have watched the series go down in flames numerous times - just to come back again and again..
people thought Bond was done after Connery left.. OHMSS disappointed audiences and critics upon release - Lazenby quit... Connery comes back for DAF, only does 1 and leaves... no way it could ever continue..... in comes Moore...
Moonraker came out - financially a success - critically, a mess... then by the time Moore at age 57 does A View To A Kill, Bond is "old hat" - it's become passe' - and even Dalton couldn't escape those sentiments..... 1995 - here comes Brosnan and Goldeneye....
then Die Another Day happened............................................... which begot Casino Royale....
the beauty of this franchise is that it continually reinvents itself..

Bond films are supposed to be fun. They’re supposed to make you laugh, cheer, and watch the hero be smarter and better than everyone and when you leave the theater, you should be grinning.
Casino Royale was the last Bond film to understand this. Everything after got too personal with Bond. Casino Royale humanized the character appropriately but kept the cheekiness and humor. Everything after is just depressing and boring and I will never understand why Skyfall gets so much praise- that movie was dull as hell.
GoldenEye and Casino are my two favorite Bond films because they knew how to balance Bond’s arrogance, humor and badassness just right. Martin Campbell directed both of those films and it blows my mind that he hasn’t been called back yet to do more.

    SPOILERS:
The ending was ridiculous, for a start James bond has an EMP watch which takes out anything electronic and James bond, who gets infected with electronic nano machines, could have easily disarmed them with his EMP watch.
Also I really disliked the me too BS that's forced down your throat whenever they can get the opportunity.
I watched this film yesterday and the awesome bits just get overshadowed by the god awful bits. It's not the worst bond film of all time but It is the worst bond ending of all time. I left the cinema feeling completely numb. My brain was struggling to process what I had just watched. I really felt wounded emotionally by the ending which has carried through to today where this emotion has just continued for me to feel quite sombre. I absolutely love bond and not only did he just die, but he died completely broken after finally getting a family and finding out that the child is actually his daughter. This is such a punch in the face and awful that this feels like a big swivel to the James Bond character and the fans. It's an absolute tragedy, he will never get the opportunity to get to know his child and have the family he always wanted. It just left me feeling empty. This may have effected me more as I have a 15 month old daughter. It made me feel the heartache that bond must have been feeling, by putting myself in his shoes and relating the situation to my wife and daughter and what he must be going through in that moment. It was just a tragic, unfair, deeply depressing disappointment.
I'm half expecting this to be opened up to remove James Bond completely, in order for it to become 007 franchise instead. So that it can include women into being the main character. Poignantly being the death of James bond completely. I can really see this happening which will destroy the franchise entirely.

Have to say I’m genuinely surprised at this review, just like Alex’s reaction when Joe said he didn’t like it 😂. Totally respect your opinions on it though and fair points. I went to see this in IMAX on opening weekend with family and I really enjoyed it, personally I think it was a fitting end for Daniel Craig’s 5 film story arc that began with the unbeatable Casino Royale, which will be hard to top going forward. My biggest gripes were that I wish they made use of Blofeld more, and also I wish Madeleine came clean sooner. FYI, for those who did not realise, Madeleine did want to tell Bond about the child at first I think as when he pushed her on the train she touched her stomach as she looked at him. I defiantly felt the emotions at the end though, especially with Zimmers epic score building up 😢.

If Bond got out, even if he was in isolation, he would be a target as the virus would still be within him. Which was great because in this film, they killed him and the organization off after 1 1/2 uses. Fantastic! Oh, and blow up Bond on your way out the door. Great!
Now we're back to square one... stop trying to make a Bond canon. All the Bond films barely mention any connection to each other. They are fun romp, one-offs, with very little or loose connection to each other. James Bond films just can't work on strict continuity, unless you do a period piece on a spy named James Bond during the cold war period and you make it a Netflix series. In the films defense, to get the plot going, I can see the distrust Bond had for Swann initially. She said go to Vesper’s grave where there was a bomb. He fights SPECTRE agents and Primo (the guy with one eye) says that Madeline is a daughter of SPECTRE. Then she says she has something to tell him (implying she’s pregnant) but all the context Bond has is, shit is happening and only one person he thinks knows where they are. By process of elimination, he had to blame her.

Don't get me wrong, I like how he comes across as a person and I'd give a Bond movie with him in it a watch, but there are others who could fit the character better, no shade being thrown Cavil's way. I can see Idris in the role. The way he carries himself, I think would suit the role. I'd also happily see an unknown in the role as long as he fits the character.

No offense but it sounds like you guys haven’t read the books because if you had you’d know how deeply bond was hurt by Vesper so putting Madeleine Swann on the train made a ton of sense. Having read the books as well you could really feel the deep emotion going through Bond, like when the bullets were being fired over and over again at the bulletproof glass at Madeleine. This film was loaded with nods to people who have read the books. Felix made reference to one of the key lines in the Casino Royale when he talks about how it’s hard to figure out who the villains are and who the heroes are...this was a key conversation in Casino Royale that let you into Bond’s state of mind and inner turmoil. Tons of lines were referencing Bonds past feelings and emotions. To rate this film a 4 is a joke to me. The film had incredible sound throughout and was the complete cinematic experience. I can agree that outside of the opening scene, the villain was a big letdown and I also didn’t like the ending, but a 4-6 rating is a joke imo.

Daniel Craig is the Christian Bale of the Bond Franchise. His Bond films are The Dark Knight Trilogy of the franchise. Craig made Bond, dark, gritty and a believable character again. He brought the franchise back to it's roots. Just like Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan did with the Batman character. Casino Royale is the Bond version of Batman Begins. It gave fresh new life to the Bond Franchise, and brought it back from the goofiness and the over the top galore of Die Another Day. Just like Batman Begins did it after the backlash with Batman & Robin. Craig made the Bond films, dark, believable and realistic again. Also you could say that No Time to Die is the Bond version of The Dark Knight Rises. As Bond sacrifices himself to save the world just like Batman did it in The Dark Knight Rises. Both the Bond and Batman films have had a similar evolution in tone and depiction. By initially starting off as dark and gritty, then becoming camp and over the top. Then becoming dark, grounded, realistic and serious in tone again.

The Craig movies have always been different from other Bonds, more connected between each others, Bond was the more affectionate tough guy instead of the playboy gentleman like his predecessors. Plus, these movies were a reboot and happened on a different timeline than Connery to Brosman. So this ending fits perfectly. If he said screw my family I will want live, i would be piss of, it could work for Brosman and Connery, but not for Craig, who's Bond want to stop live as spy and when he have occasion he would live agent live.

This was a great Bond movie with a fitting end to Daniel Craigs run. It played more into the traditional Bond character than Craig’s other films while still holding true to his interpretation. Anddddd this is the first Bond movie to really truly explore Bond’s vulnerable side. When he actually has time to let his love bloom and grow. I thought his relationship with Madeleine was the best and most well developed relationship Bond has had with any woman in a Bond movie. Period. Yea the villain’s motivations are a bit goofy and he comes out of nowhere, but Rami’s performance elevates the fuck out of it. It was mentioned a couple of times, that 007's don't really have a long life expectancy. In all the films (that I've seen), they lead cool lives, but they're always shallow.
I think the story of how Daniel Craig's Bond managed to get close to something that had more meaning was a very welcome thing in this movie and something that was new and refreshing (he was already more human than the other Bonds in Casino Royale).
What I thought after watching a lot of the bond movies where it was the last movie for an actor (old and new) is that they most likely died later on a cool mission where they saved the world again. Daniel Craig's Bond does the same, but we got to see it as well this time. It was very sad, but it showed very well, the kind of sacrifice every Bond is expected and willing to make and that being a 007 means you'll never lead a normal life.
In this way, he was different from the bonds that came before him, because he had a lot more to lose.
I agree with a lot of other criticism about the movie, but to me this aspect was well executed.

Most bond fans as ourselves believe it should follow a Fleming formula because that is what makes bond. And the more it veers off that path the less it becomes bond. It was waller bridged !
There were some elements of her writing style to some of the previous Craig films... this "humanity" they've tried to bring to a character that's normally much more complex / mysterious. Skyfall ballsed up, a lot, by showing us his childhood home, introducing his guardian (Kinkade)...
P W-B finished it off by introducing a daughter that totally changed his usual motives, mystery.. the whole dynamic and theme (overall).
The 007 re-designation was a trope, it felt like it was trying to hard to make a statement... in many ways it felt like a generic action film that had a load of Bond references retroactively applied to it to try and turn it into part of the franchise. An Easter Egg portrait of Bernard Lee in the background, an OHMSS style opening title sequence. The only piece for me that was truly worthy was the chase sequence with the DB5 in Italy.
The final sequence felt like it'd been rushed through (like the new Star Wars films). I don't believe that that's something the fans wanted, I'm sure more fans will dislike it than praise it.
It was a redux of OHMSS mixed with a little Dr No and the original novel for You Only Live Twice... Except terribly sub-par of any of those core ingredients.
    Uninspired.

May be the only movie that survived such a derail of a classical character. This type of move kills franchises. Ask Disney.

I mostly enjoyed this movie, but what about that scene with the bad guy and the daughter? She's the perfect hostage against bond and his mother (and used as such), both are on the loose and trying to destroy all his plans, but he suddenly decides to let her go, because she bit him in the hand and basically just doesn't like him?
