- In this 2000pts 6th Ed batrep, An exalted demon whispers to the Blind Prince that the bones of a great sorcerer of chaos rest in the claws of an orc shaman, and that to hold said bones would increase his power tenfold. Lusting for greater strength, he leads his host of northmen south to claim them in the name of Slaanesh.

Indeed, 6th Ed is the one I enjoyed the most. Felt balanced, atleast at first.. The best time was during the Empire, O&Gs and Dorfs books or even Ravening Hordes. Ah the times.. :)
I have a peculiar feeling watching these battle reports. On one hand I feel nostalgia for the game I used to play a lot and love, on the other I can see how much progress game design has made since then. It is similar to the feeling you get when you think how incredible, almost photorealistic this video game from your youth looked like...and than you get to see what it really looked like ;)
For example, I have watched a few of these reports already, and the saturation of player agency, interesting, meaningful and non-obvious decisions per unit of gameplay time (or per page of rules) seems abysmal. These blocks just get shuffled forward until them meet what was deployed directly across the battlefield from them and then totally random combat Yhatzee gives some result which tips balance in favour of one of the sides...
My memory lies to me that the game was far more strategic than that. Or maybe it's the fact that for some reason you don't use a lot of sacrificial units, especially fast cavalry which can redirect these expensive blocks at unfavourable angles. I remember always playing with 3 min. Wolf Rider units in O&G, 3 min. units of Warhounds inChaos, 3 min. Dire Wolves in Vampires etc. Can't imagine just having nothing to throw away to delay this Black Knight Bus for a turn!
You used your shooting, magic and support units to kill enemy support units, because with more sacrificial support than your opponent you could control their movement (by baiting or redirecting, or taking a charge and overrun into an anvil and countercharging in a flank). With so little support it really feels like blocks shuffling forward and dice deciding everything...simple, shallow gameplay not justifying dozens of pages of rules and 2 hours spent doing it.

Simple answer, for me, is, if I enjoy it - it is worth the time as a hobby. And adding in all the fun background, modelling and painting (which i truly enjoy) and then the social part, meeting some fun friend, playing, making a little story - that is still as fun.
And then it is worth it.
I would probably enjoy it much less if i all cared about was making a competetive, win at all costs list, not enjoy the hobby aspect, not appreciate the rich background...
@@ja37d-34 Oh, you miss the mark so much assuming I played WAAC in WFB 6-7ed :) I never played more than a few magic levels, my O&G army had 4 big blocks of various Orcs and I won Eastern Europe Grand Tournament with a Chaos army with a huge block of foot Marauders :)
What I am saying, without these sacrificial units the game loses a lot of its tactical depth - all that is left is push forward and Yhatzee. A wargame with no meaningful maneuver isn't as exciting as a wargame with a lot of it, right?

Great report, as always. Kudos to Dwayne for not ripping Stoss' head off when he had that double 5 double 6 on gaze of Mork... Great to have a beginner on the channel and I disagree with some of the comments, I feel Stoss was handling it very well and Dwayne seemed to have fun despite the loss. I hope he comes back, seeing him improve until he can rival and eventually win would be very entertaining

This dudes slaanesh army is unbelievable in it's beauty. He really took the lore and made it kinda like they describe but im his own awesome way. I am impressed.
And don't forget that rallying fleeing troops is after panic checks, so in 1:21:22, the biggens should generate panic checks in the two shamans

Rules correction:
In big waagh, you don't change for mork save us, you change for gaze of mork from the little waagh.
It is a little confusing that it is like that, but it's probably because shaman lords can have a mix of big waagh and little waagh spells, and you could potentially swap 2/3 shamans spells off if it wasn't like that.

Fantastic battle report as always. Dont forget that panic tests for fleeing units are done at the start of the turn. So the Orc And Goblin Shamen would have had to test for the fleeing Orc boys...

Nice to have a battle coming out again, thanks mate! Like people said, not the most exciting game, but that's Warhammer sometimes. Not your fault at all. When you get almost all your spells off (even when miscasting), all your fanatics make it in and do good damage, and you get a bunch of direct hits on your strong artillery, there's not much any list can do in return. In a different timeline of this game, your shaman lord dies on turn 1, you don't kill his cannon and it gets to shoot back and your big uns get flank charged by a scary Chaos Lord.
Having said that, I hope Duane does come back, but with a list that has a little more potential to survive (some more flyers, some dispell scrolls etctera).
Maybe not a bad idea to give people a heads up what kind of army they are playing against so they can prepare a bit. Or help opponents out a bit during deployment etcetera if they are inexperienced.
Anyway, keep up the cool content and I hope you can shrug off some of the harsher comments 👍

Nice to see Stoss running Orcs and Goblins. It looked like it was a real fun army to run. Kudos from the USA.
Loving the battle reports as always Stos and Dwayne's army is mad, but brilliant. Do have to say that beck in the early '00s taking 6 fanatics would not have made you many friends at my local GW. They're incredibly random (as are O&G in general of course) but they are devastating when they hit. Dwayne's lack of screening units didn't help, but all the same a feel for him though he took it on the chin and you were a great sportsman as always.
Beautiful and weirdly disturbing Slaaneshi army, stunning conversions, never had a cheese dream this stimulating. Enjoyed the game but by the dark gods, dice were cruel.
The wildlife remained unmolested on the hillside unlike the goat herder, barely recognisable as once being human, now eviscerated and turned inside-out by the skillful slaaneshi shaman, cooling organs lay strewn around like steaming juicy spiderweb, "my prince, the omens are fortuitous..a great victory is fortold" .. a pleased throaty murmer was the only reply. The horde of chaos readied for battle, it would be glorious.
These battle reports are always great, but it was quite disappointing that almost none of the Slaaneshi units got to do anything at all. Such a stunning army as well, obviously crafted with love and passion. Not really my personal taste with that twisted Slaanesh stuff, but still a very impressive army. Oh well, maybe a rematch some day, would be nice to see them against the dwarfs.
Love seeing two wonderful painted armies and the (subjective) best WHFB edition again. As some others mentioned before me, Duanes list was a bit weak. Hordes of Chaos is really difficult to build flavorful, but also somehow able to do something. I understand that Duane (spelling?) is limited by what he has and that it's his second 6th edition game. But there is a bit potential to increase the balance between both armies. First off, especially as he plays Slaanesh: take 1-2 5x Chaos Warhounds. As the main units are immune to psychology, you don't mind their panic checks. In addition a unit of Gargoyles would've helped. For fancy items: I know it's flavorful and tempting, but playing an army with expensive units, limits this adventure. Better to go with plain old two-handed weapon (or halberd). For Heroes I'd suggest for the next game an Exalted Champion of Chaos and a few more Magic users. Not oot, but like ~8 Power Dice should be more than enough. For some other units: I'd run meat-and-shield Barbarians as a rank-and-file unit (I personally run my units 5 wide, as they look better). The flail barbarians I'd run as a 10 men support unit. Chaos Marauder Horsemen are also nice to have ;) One last thing: Chaos Warriors are my absolute favorite, but small units are sadly the most worthless thing in a HoC army 😔 Either run them 6x2 with Halberds (still bad) or none at all. And for the variaty request @Stos: You can still try the desperate Orcs and Dwarf alliance (aka Chaos Dwarfs), just to try something different with stuff you already have painted XD Best regards FA

Using a cannon to draw fire is 4D chess level thinking. It absorbed a lot of punishment for its points compared to what could have been done to the expensive chaos models!

Only couple things were around 1:20:00 O&G start of turn 3 missed panic test around the fleeing unit, before doing rally test (could have been big) and not sure the chaos knights could be seen behind the hill (that depends on your scenery house rules, but standard is forests and hills block all LOS).
Don't worry about the list being cheesy Stos! It's a good, sharp list but it's not cheesy. O&G were quite underpowered in 6th ed, so they should seize any advantage they can. Magic-artillery-fanatic spam is one of the few strategies that work well for them.
The issue with magic in 6th ed is that it's an "all or nothing" kind of deal. You either go big with at least 3 spellcasters (like this list), or you go defensive with one or two level 1s that should never leave home without 2 or 3 dispel scrolls. Anything in between is unlikely to do anything, unless matched vs a similar middle ground list. Your oponents often bring casual lists with one or two random mages so the list is not kitted for magic supremacy nor protected enough for magic defense. So if magic being unbalanced worries you, the only thing you could do is warn your oponents "hey this is a magic heavy list, just to let you know", or against dwarves they should know that they are not going to cast anything worthy unless they bring 10+ energy dice. Otherwise they should spend those very expensive magic points elsewhere.
Being an O&G player myself (with a bit more experience in 8th than 6th), I wouldn't say the list is overpowered. By design O&G is very variable as whole (animosity, little & big Waaagh miscast tables, low leadership overall). You could have done the same matchup and failed miserably. Back in the day when I lost (was often by heaps) and I would feel like the gods had failed me, and when I won (often by heaps aswell) I felt bad because it seemed unfair.. but that is the Orc way !
The only thing the magic list really helps with is those D3 rerolls which really helps combat the variabity of the army.
In conclusion : enjoy the crushing victory like a true Orc would ! 😀

When your units flee you don’t pop through your own units unless there is absolutely no where else to go, so you don’t necessarily always go directly away from the enemy. Would have made a huge difference with the big un flee

Nice game, vibe and sportmanship! Answering your question: yes, your list is totally over the top. 3 mages (10 power dice + extras) and 4 artillery pieces against an inexperienced player with an unsharpened list was a bit hard to watch. He took it like a champ tough. kuddos for him.

Ah, it looks quite fine to me, you have the points and space for those artillery in an O&G list, they are both cheap-ish and quite unreliable - and kinda needed. The infantry blocks are fine.. Many Shamans is a big risk.. I consider it weaker than a lord, hero, BSB and shaman for example..
The O&Gs are fine, hardly OP. The Chaos list is not "opted", that´s were the focus should be perhaps. But the guy seems like a painter and modeller. Give him a few hints instead if you want him to get a tougher army.
@@ja37d-34 It is relative to the opinion obviusly as it is a legal list. At the same time we play a lot of 6th ed in my area and that kind of ultra heavy magic lists are normally restricted even in tournaments. The discussion was not if O&G are OP or not, it was about how over the top this list ist. Against an expererienced player it would be very tough but playable, against an inexperienced one as we saw: a total onesided massacre.
You can also give hints to the other player instead of ordering around Mr boss! :-)
From my side I don't know slannesh well enough to go into detail, but some general tips: always 2 dispell scrolls in your list. There was only one shock cavalry unit without any support light cavalry and the magical banner superfluous given their great stats. One or 2 more light cavalries and maybe a second chariot could make the list better. Maybe removing the cannon and the spawn to bring support to your hammer.
The caos lord had no magic items to protect him, which I would use as with the incredible base stats that they have they only need a bit of protection.
@@murdok2cat1 Orcs & goblins are far down on the power level and aded to that, the unreliable nature. It doubles for their magic. Much higher risk and a good chance for a good reward, but very, very risky.
It is hardly the most "OP" you can make, even if playing O&Gs.
And that is not artillery "heavy", it is a list with a little bit of everything, flavourful. But this time the dude chose to have more Shamans instead, he switched around a little from his usual list.
Calling O&Gs and in particular this list "OP" is... Amazing. Have you evben played 6th Ed, have you played the real power houses?

@@ja37d-34 it is very easy, he is not trolling you at all. The O&G list is a solid one. There are far "better" lists in WHFB 6th edition, mainly because is a club game, not a tournament game (like too many players want to take it, sadly), and designers didn't worry about balance it. But is a hard list. And it have, AGAIN, the damn hill in the middle of the deployment zone, obtaining a HUGE advantage for his artillery. I have said this to him in previous videos: don't put hills in the middle of your deployment zone. Well, sooner or later he'll understand: is not fun for your opponents.
And all of this against a two games player, with a bad list, without warmachine hunters or magic protection. If you bring a veteran player with two or three dispel scrolls, 2x5 harpies or furies, 2x5 hounds and so on, you will get a good game, and it's possible that O&G will be completely smashed... with this same list.
But there is no sense of playing such disbalaced game. Is like playing basket against your 8 years old nephew.

Had to wait an hour and a half in a blinding snow storm waiting for an effing bus that should be every 20 mins, freezing because the snow melted on my clothes and turned to ice then the bus driver greets this pissed off yeti like it's no BFD they can't navigate a little snow when everyone else seems to be managing. Quick question ....... when the orc shaman rolled 4d6, then used his staff to roll again, and you unfortunately got two 1's for a miscast ...... could you have rerolled one of those 1's? To prevent the miscast

1. You can only negate a miscast/ create irresistible force with items/spells that specifically state in their description that they can, and Mork save uz! doesn't
2. You can't reroll a reroll

some thoughts on the game! while you did indeed get lucky with some dice rolls, your range guessing is on point! also this game is a perfect example of why you NEED to bring hounds with your chaos army. setting off fanatics with warriors and knights was pretty awful haha. Lucky his army is freaking gorgous!
I got the pdf from the Files section of the 6th Ed Facebook group, then printed them on some thick card. They are amazing! Even come with some great art to stick to the back!

Why not use the last shaman reroll in first round to reroll one of the dice causing the miscast?
For two reasons.
1. You can only negate a miscast/ create irresistible force with items/spells that specifically state in their description that they can, and Mork save uz! doesn't

as for me, great BR but lots of errors..... 1- man sized models on foot dont get - to movment made by terrain.... 2- first (at the begining of turn) you test for panic every units (with lower models) from friendly fleeing units in 4 inch... 1:21:11 minute of BR... so first your general and mage can panick from fleeing Orc unit that flee last turn. and.... as i remember... you chose target for spell before try to cast it and attempt for dispel ;] another.... your 2nd unit of NG have mashrooms? so 2d6 hits not 1d6? flank or rear charge count only when there is US 5+ models on side or rear.... spawn have US3 do no flank. + exalted deampn have terror.... orcs dont roll it before charge? CY

The miniatures are amazing, the slaanesh army is the best i've ever seen. But the difference between players was too big. And warhammer is a game, the purpose is to have fun. And this is a CZcams channel, and should try to generate interesting games as well.
First of all: the lists. The O&G list is a solid one, with an insane amount of range damage (too much, IMHO). And one more time...artillery hill in the middle, the worst way to build up a battlefield, IMHO.
Meanwhile, the chaos one...uff, very nice to see in the table, but very fragile. It desperately needs a unit of chaos furies (maybe two), to deal with artillery and shooters, one unit of dogs (30p the 5 guys) and magic protection...carrying an elite force with only 4 dispel dice is suicide. Two dispel scrolls or at least one for sure will fix this. Since the general is not in a unit, should carry a ward save as well.
And the game: against veteran players like others in this channel, you can go with everything, let them make mistakes, and try to put things of your side since the roll one. But against a two-games-guy...man, help him a little. The deployment is terrible, no plan against fanatics (having a chaos spawn, and 2 units of marauders...), a 390p cavalry too far away of everything, a wizzard in front of the goblin with the missile item... without throwing a single dice, the outcome was clear. And the following decisions...letting you have your rerolls in turn 1 (needing only a 6, and with only 3 dispel dice against 8), using foot of Mork against goblins instead of black orcs, putting his chaos warriors to face 6 fanatics, not fleeing with the marauders charged by black orcs...and so on.
Sorry for the comment again, and please, don't take it in the wrong way: I really love your batreps. But i think that, in some situations (like this), they could be much better.
I hope we will see this slaanesh army facing you again, and this time, have big and epic hand-to-hand combats and a closer game

I agree with this comment generally. It was a little disheartening watching the guy's beautifully-made army getting flattened before even getting a chance to fight. A more balanced list against newer opponents would be appreciated.
Or even just changing your playstyle mid-game when you see a newer opponent is on the backfoot and not having any fun. For instance, you could have left his cannon alive, or not thrown all 3 fanatics into his poor warriors of chaos. This is something I often did in my local store to keep newer players engaged. Against experienced opponents though? Bring your best.
That being said, we've all survived a similar walloping, and that is how we ultimately learn, hone our tactics, and craft better army lists. Just so long as we don't get discouraged. I would definitely invite him back, he was awesome!
- You mentioned marauders fleeing against black orcs -- that is not possible, as the black orcs charged in with the Waaagh! spell, and the only possible response is to hold (no standing and shooting or fleeing).

In any case...you talk about "mid game". Cannon was destroyed in turn 1. Fanatics popped out on turn 2. By turn 3, there isn't much chaos remaining. The problem was the list and the deployment. In mid game the only Stos can concede was let the guy charge with knights, throwing the fanatics first against marauders. But that's all, the game was over since deployment.
BTW, destroying the cannon throwing literally all against it is a bad strategic choice. There were things much more dangerous in play. But Stos way to play is that, seeing warhammer as an artillery fight, probably due to playing dwarfs

Usually love these battle reps, but wish the army list would vary a bit, always do heavy on artillery no matter what, and think it seemed a bit weak to flee the big unz from that charge, despite the fact you had already more of less massacred his entire army, would of been nice to see some combat rather than continually blasting him with magic and artillery so you never get touched in anything that could possibly be a fair or challenging fight. Sorry for the negativity but feel like this could of been really fun to watch with it being two armies that are very heavily combat based but felt like you just wanted a massacre rather than a good game
Don't get me wrong, your reps are some of the best out there and always looking forward to the next ones, but would like to see a little more variety when building the army lists and the army you use, 99% it's dwarfs with the same list and exact same Lord build. But I appreciate if you only have the two armies to play then so be it. Either way it's still great content and keep up the good work
Fair points my man. As per variety, I try to change things up, but there's only so much I can do. Only so many hours in the day. I do only have 2 armies at the moment, but am currently working on a third. Takes time bud.

@@rogueelementgaming Maybe you could try changing magical items, or the role of your characters? I have only two armys as well, and the "core" of my lists are always the same (the miniatures i have...), but i keep change some things game to game. For example, i have Vampire Counts, Necrachs. Sometimes i play vampire lord on zombie dragon (not the best option, but i love it), sometimes on foot, or even a vampire count, with BSB, or without, changing some magical items...and with a limited amount of miniatures, i can play lists quite different between them
I can't help but facepalm when nobody contests the spell "Mork save us", it's a game winner really it is. As disciple of Khorne I can only chuckle at the demise of Slaanish , but oh a very nicely painted army that I would so enjoy seeing in battle again.
