Thatcher put riddle to sleep. And he woke up on Smackdown
I hope he finds his way back to nxt
Mario Morales He can just has to get past Baron Corbin and Elias
This matched solidified Matt Riddle. And I hope Kurt sticks as his manager.
Unfortunately he’s going to
The main roster where he’ll probably be ruined.
imo it solidified timothy thatcher
@v b never underestimate vince. Hes buried so many legit stars it's depressing. He's an out of touch old man that hates seeing people get over without his permisson
@@michaelrodriguez6984 That's an assumption.
@v b I guarantee he loves Riddle. Vince loves him some cocky, alpha males. Bruce loves him too. He looks like Kerry Von Erich (who Vince was obsessed w/) and he's already beeing billed as the next 'face of SmackDown.'
That match definitely had a real sports feel.
Coz Matt is a former MMA fighter . You need the right guys .

The wrestling that Jim and Brian always yearn for is probably best replicated in NXT. It also has that territory feel as guys always leave before they get to stale and go to the next territory (raw and smackdown).
And then their careers die.
@@billh344 all the way to the bank
Jim has noted this. He's admitted that NXT is a solid product that won't commit that many mistakes that will insult Jim's intelligence.
NXT is hit or miss
@@jking3266 100%
I’m so glad Jim likes this. I’ve been praising NXT for ages, because I feel like, WWE or not, they still take wrestling seriously. I would love regular NXT reviews
Jom Cirnette
Julia [nWo] well yeah they are funny, but I’m genuinely glad a guy who loves wrestling as much as Jim, and who thought serious wrestling was dead, still finds something in modern wrestling that lights that fire in him :D
Dr170 oops lol
It is hard to review NXT regularly because their format is set and predictable. Unlike aew who has limitless stupidity, u would never know when they will do good stuff like cody’s and when will they hit a new low on comedy shit. Much more controversial to talk about
@@PrinceWindz he should definitely continue with the AEW reviews, but NXT has so much good stuff, especially the tag team matches. A happy Jim every so often would be nice as well :)
The fight pit is the perfect antithesis to the stadium stampede match.
The Lion's Den shoutout by Beth was the highlight of the match.
How no one hit on "Stallion's Den", l don't know
Even Ken Shamrock liked the match.
Personally, I'm surprised Jim didn't pop for Phillips making the Night of the Skywalkers reference...
@Joe Greene Nah. It was just a square Lion's Den.
A match without ropes is something i never imagined but holy shit does it work
Solid steel cage, MMA style.
The Lion's Den says hi. Way back from the Attitude era.
Vietnam flashbacks of the punjabi prison lol.
You should check out Barnetts Bloodsport events.
Josh Barnett's bloodsport fucking rules
Came back here 6 months later to relive this moment for New Year's Evil where it is Ciampa's turn.
WWE should kick the cage match concept to the curb and use the fight pit instead. Only KO or submission to win and no escaping the cage to win.
@@viperxtj61x78 I'd throw guys like Gable in that category too.
I was thinking this too, you could also introduce managers for some of them to toss in gimmicks like chairs, bats etc in the pit every couple of years.
Like Jim said in one of his earlier videos, the escape the cage concept was Vince's dumb idea, which defeated the purpose of the cage originally.
@@thnzxc Vince loves weaselly heels who narrowly evade their comeuppance even when the odds are against them, which the cage rule allows while still putting over the idea that the face is some badass who will demolish them. At the very least he still recognizes the need of heels being heels. Now he just has to remember how to book faces again.
@@viperxtj61x78 I'll take Lesnar vs. Lashley in a pit fight match!
And only a couple a years later we will finally see this match on the main roster between riddle and rollins 🙏🏽
Thatcher is a badass!😬 ~Catch as catch can!~
Someone needs to get Cornette to watch Thatcher vs WALTER from Progress, incredible match, one of the best of the last decade
I will watch this. I just replied to another comment and Walter crossed my mind as a decent match. Now I will get to watch it. Thanks.
@@FeelMyFerret czcams.com/video/WuspvBZUnqo/video.html only Highlights
Ooh yeah, it helps that Corny loves WALTER.
william mcintosh cornettes high on walter
@@adrenochromejoe7448: from... He looks like he's "from" attack of the Titan..
I love this match a lot after all the garbage lately this is refreshing and great to see
Shoot wrestling is the best, it feels so real and intense. Love it
I watched one match of Thatcher’s in MLW and I liked him. Him and Davey Boy Smith Jr. had a real good big man match where they incorporated some MMA into their match.
Will have a look at that. Thank you.
@@FeelMyFerret czcams.com/video/Rh-X1ROdl6s/video.html 30 min
Cornette should check out the EVOLVE MiniDocs plus look at the EVOLVE collection of matches they have on Thatcher, Riddle, Keith Lee, MANY MANY more
Tim also wrestled Low Ki in another great physical match. I highly reccomend it.
This was a great match. I'm starting to become a massive fan of Timothy Thatcher. Matt Riddle was always pretty good to me. I wouldn't mind seeing this match again in the future...
Compare the Fight Pit to the Stadium Stampede.
Which one was a sports-based presentation?
Imo fight pit was more wrestling base while stadium stampede was more of a cinematic match but both can’t be compared
@@nostalgicnerd3154 stadium stampede was brutal comedy for imbeciles
@Anthony Cruz Yeah lets all watch The Street Profits vs Viking Raiders for Backlash....
The ONE moment that reallllly impressed me was when Riddle belted Thatcher hard and was about to follow up with a boot to the face when Angle tackles Riddle and pushed him to one side so he could administer the 10 count. That was properly MMA esque which really helped sell the concept
I saw that it was a good addition to it
The sound that made as well! Felt like the old Orton Punt Kick!
😂😂 Jim PERFECTLY predicted what AEW would've did if they did this match at 8:41
Like Cody vs wardlow?
Would've done*
@@radicalstanza3614 👍🏽
@@glennb6020 now THAT was a great cage match. But im pretty sure he was thinking Kenny Omega or the Young Bucks would make the match a joke lol
Primetime 91 well I get your point but he said ‘AEW’ which is Cody’s baby at least regarding himself. Hence he wasn’t in the stampede match
Before I listen to this, I’m going to opine that NXT is the best wrestling show every week. This week’s was great. This match was a gimmick match, but it was a gimmick match done right.
Yes it is
😴
NXT isn't perfect, but it's the closest thing we have that still somehow resembles pro wrestling the way I used to love it -- actual (simulated) combat where guys and girls look and act like they actually want to beat each other and compete for the belts. NXT and NWA are the only things I really follow anymore.
"Impact Wrestling is the best wrestling show every week"
FTFY
wloffblizz yes it is
I loved it on every level. The fact they removed the whole ring concept and handed the fans something beautiful and this was art 😁
Thatcher is a catch wrestler trained by Josh Barnett. So yea he kinda does have mma training.
I didn't know Barnett trained Thatcher but that explains a lot.
Do you have no life?
Timothy Thatcher vs HIdeki Suzuki at Josh Barnett's Bloodsport was an amazing example of strong / shoot style wrestling (or catch / mat wrestling if you wanna say so).
www.bilibili.com/video/av48327003/
I watched Thatcher a lot of times here in Germany as he wrestled for wXw. He also was a member of Ringkampf, which is the same gimmick as Imperium, together with WALTER, Marcel Barthel (Axel Dieter Jr) and Alexander Wolfe
Was a great stable. Would be strange if Thatcher would not get an Imperium member or start a feud with Walter.
I believe it was an instant classic with two excellent performers. I love both Riddle and Thatch and their styles. WWE actually did a match that wasn't a fluke. No whether they keep it up remains to be seen. But to me a 4 out of 5 star match.
The pit looks badass, I would not mind a MMA or wrestling promotion that focus around that.
BLOODSPORT
Along with Okada/Naito and Will/Hiromu, this was the best match of 2020. This felt like a cross between the Owen Hart/Ken Shamrock Lion's Den match and an old school Crockett match.
Glad Corny loved this match, it reeked of old school hell in a cell but with scaffolding
Not to mention it's nice to see Kurt Angle on my television again.
Corny looks so happy in this thumbnail...
Yeah...a rarity lol
I had the chance to see Thatcher against Walter in a tag team match with two japanese wrestlers at this years WXW 16 Carat Gold. It was absolutly fantastic. Hope he will get a good career in nxt.
Riddle vs AJ Styles would be a nice feud
Jim Should have whatched takeover blackpool 2.
he would have loved bate vs devlin and WALTER vs Coffey.
Walter vs Coffey was easily the worst nxt uk title defense in of walter's time with it
@@viperxtj61x78 well, his defense against Dunne and Bate were much better for sure, but the match against Coffey was great on it's own right. It was definitely better than WALTER vs Mastiff.
I liked both of those matches.
Why would he want to watch that shit
@@viperxtj61x78 Why? Coffey is flat-out boring.
It’s like the modern day equivalent of Ken Shamrock’s “Lions Den” match
Exactly what I said I guess no one remembers that match
@@philfairell2818 i remember the lion's den very very well and i was hoping they'd bring a style of match like this back I'd love to see this in Nxt Wargames as a attraction match
Beth referenced it no?
@DevilKaz i find 3 in CZcams
Owen vs Blackman
Owen vs Shamrock
Blackman va Shamrock
@@boosterkidrg she did
That cage just looked really cool. The top of it that looks like a scaffold is awesome.
First time I watched a full NXT show in 6-7 years and this cage match didn’t disappoint.
Pre-determined Competition > Pre-determined Comedy
Riddle is the WWE MVP. This match was good, his skits with Pete Dunne were fun, and that title match he had vs Cole was unbelievable.
Bang the plexiglass like a drum to create an atmosphere
They connected so well on the moonsault
Wait until Cornette finds out Joey Janela’s Indy promotion revitalized the shoot style they’re watching on NXT now lol
First time seeing thatcher. He does a great job looking like hes in a actual brawl.
That cover art of Riddle is amazing
Thank you Travis Heckel
JIM....HE REALLY GOT HIS TEETH KICKED IN.....🤣🦷
Jim may actually like Josh Barnett's 'Bolldsport' events
I actually thought this was really neat , they laid it INNNN
I think Cornette will LOVE Thatcher once he looks at his career......
It felt like a real competitive cage fight...Well put-together
WHY DOESN'T CORNETTE WATCH NXT MORE?!
im sure he will after stating he wont watch aew anymore
He got sick of it being inconsistent with the talent that's featured every week
NXT is just match after match after match,a wrestling show needs some solid angles though
@@demored3017 lol I promise he'll watch AEW again.....corny wants them clicks
@@gamechanger700 the show has way more angles going on than aew currently which only has tyson vs jericho and whomever cody is fighting
Match of the year candidate for sure.
said nobody ever
Facts
Nah, that goes to Bucks/Page & Omega at Revolution.
@@eastwaters4082 Yeah it's up there and definitely on the list. Hard for me to be objective though considering i hate the bucks with a passion and think anything they touch turns to shit imo. Good thing for Omega and Page being as talented as they are.
Not even close if it took place in the Tokyo dome it would be match of the decade
I think guys like gable and Gulak could pull off some amazing sequences in there too
NXT is the only “wrestling” on TV.
Yeah because they dont make a joke out of it
It's the only show that takes the business seriously. I like comedic relief in wrestling but AEW overdo it wayyy too much.
@@arnobviewer5945 NXT is great for what it is. Problem is that it's style doesn't prepare the wrestlers for the main roster which is why you hear the eventual "Vince is gonna ruin X"
On smackdown and raw you don't get 25 minute matches in front of the same crowd week after week. Nobody cares that you can do a Panama Sunrise or Canadian Destroyer.
You get a mic and 3 minutes and you have to make ppl interested in seeing more of you.
@@stevenweech8888 and that's why certain nxt stars didn't make it on the main roster... they got the opportunity and wasted it. Nakamura is the only person that i can say vince fucked over
Exactly
Love cornys happy face in the picture!! at last he gets to see some wrestling and not failed comedians goofs and halfwits
The smaller crowd gives it more of a local house show feel which is kinda cool
As silly as Riddle can be, he’s a star in the making if the right people guide him. Thatcher is an exceptional worker as well, I need to see Thatcher against Oreilly and Strong in some big matches down the line because he’s awesome
I haven’t seen it yet but it sounds like a must-see
AGREE! With all of this. Riddle is an acquired taste for me but I gave him high marks for this. I know nothing of Thatcher but what I saw of this match and I want more of them both now. Congrats on new gimmick match idea. WRESTLING CAN BE SERIOUS. Lots of fans are desperate for a product worthy of their suspension of disbelief! I’m going on record here first with my idea for a WWE T-Shirt. “SOWLLESS” with a WWE logo in place of the “u”.
I've never heard the words "HERKY-JERKY" used so many times in such a short time span lol 😂
Now Vince is gonna ruin Riddle so hard that he is going to be the Anti-bro on the Main Roster
It was a not bad vignette on smackdown with angle introducing him, better than any we have seen so far, so maybe they have big plans for him no many get a legend giving them the rub their first promo video
he's going to feud with Corbin and lose in the end, I'm afraid
That was a 5 star match, Man homie spit his teeth out and kept going
Awesome Shoot Today Jim!!🙌🐐🐐
That was awesome 👍 Could be the new HELL in CELL 🔥
If this was the other company you know at least one of the dives would have been on top of the railing to the floor. Oh, and if the guy was super lucky somebody might catch him.
It really was one of the best matches I’ve seen in a very long time... I’ll be completely honest, if Thatcher losing his teeth was a spot they did it extremely well. I truly thought it was a botched move. Some of the hits you were hearing made it feel very plausible
Who would have guess that short matches with people who work the crowd will work?
This was a breath of fresh air compared to the Stadium Stampede match from AEW. Now I did find some moments entertaining: Matt Hardy, Sammy Guevara. But that wasn't wrestling. More like AEW trying to do their own take on Captain America: Civil War airport scene.
Others compared it to the team fights in the anchorman movies. AEW has kinda dialed in to be the ironic frat boy stoner comedy league of pro wrestling. Which has its place, but its not getting a chair at cornettes holiday dinner party.
Timothy Thatcher is great. A total old school throwback, shooter type WRESTLER. No thrills, nothing silly or goofy, just a badass old school pro wrestler! 🤼♂️
I actually liked it. It felt like it was their take on a UFC match and it was worthy of Riddle's last match. The only problem now is Riddle will get a booking nightmare on Smackdown.
Best match in awhile I thought both men with hard hitting strikes and decent spots throughout especially that kick to the mouth
Well, Jim is spoken in existence, two weeks on Saturday at extreme rules. It will be Matt Riddle and Seth freaking Rollins and a fight pit match. What a genius.
Seth 'franklin' Rollins
Walter would be a good fit for it
I would love to see one of these two against Shemas in one of these matches.
It wasn't a tap. It was a chokeout
Best WWE/NXT match of the year imo. Maybe Ciampa/Cole too.
Matt Riddle is really awesome. Not one wrestler in AEW can touch him. Not one. Not even the ones who are really good like Moxley and Adam Page.
Loved it. Riddle is versatile. Hope he becomes WWE Underground Fight Pit Champion
Travis needs to work on his drawings of Matt Riddle. I'll probably have nightmares about that face
I need to review imperium vs undisputed era! One of the best matches I’ve seen
Thatcher has a background in catch wrestling.
Riddle has mma experience,
Recipe for a great match!
Hearing cornette praise something is strange but pleasant at the same time
Yeah, Fight Pit match with 20-30 participants. 2 start in the ring, and everyone else is sitting above. Every 2 minutes one random participant jumps from above into the ring etc. Nobody left until the whole match is over, everyone who was knocked out has to stay knocked out until the match is over. The last ones have to climb over the knocked out particpants. :)
I love listening to jim corrnet.....he is best commentry on wwe
I hate Matt Riddle, his gimmick, the flip flops, bro thing, just his whole persona. But this match was great!!
@feelings Are Not Arguments nowhere near as cool though.
Bro.
Great new cage match idea. I loved it to
I love Thatcher. He's very gritty.
Why sign 100 people when they’re never given a chance on national tv
It was very entertaining and a good level of brutality.
Man, now I have to add Timothy Thatcher vs Dory Funk Jr to my Time Travel Supercard.
Those dark blue trunks really heeling it up with the Margaret connection.. Hope they don't go vince over-egging any of this as it'd really turn quickly to go away heat
I liked the match it works hope to continue to see more of this match
This is not a new match type, this is just Ken shamrocks Lion's den match from The attitude era updated for the modern time.
Angle looked like a legit MMA ref.
Just watched it and holy shit, that was fucking brutal! I could easily watch that over some silly flippy shit (though I do enjoy some silly flippy shit from time to time). Reminds me of Ken Shamrock's Lion's Den coming to full fruition, great stuff.
I loved the fight pit. Thought it was great and perfect for these current circumstances. Really hope they do this type of match again.
It was a fucking brilliant match. Two legit wrestlers/fighters telling a story, working the crowd and selling the gimmick match. When you make your match more belieaveble you make the crowd and public involve in to the story you are telling.
Sometimes when the match goes off script and becomes a better match is it spontaneous to the wrestlers and to the audience and the referee even the bookers in this case they all have to sell it 🤔
What he liked it! Where's Jim and what have you done with him!
I wasn't so keen on Riddle until recently but I think with the right people guiding him he could be big... He has great potential!
Riddle is his own enemy, he already close a door with Lesnar.
@@RandalfElVikingo totally agree, it's why he needs someone guiding him though not sure he would accept a veteran telling him what he should and shouldn't be doing.
i like tuf gym fights witout commentating and just the whole teams yelling makes it more intense.
reminded me of the lions den from the 99
I was surprised how good this week's NXT was. I scoffed at first cause they had wrestlers behind plastic barriers chanting the same things you hear fans do at their shows, but most of their matches were pretty damn good, and this one between Riddle and Thatcher was just icing on the cake. If Triple H and McMahon can keep this kind of thing going, they just might get the ratings to go back up.
