  • When pushing a hub motor to nearly 3 times it's rated limit, it's important to take heat management into account. As final modifications after replacing the phase and hall wiring, I'll be using hubsinks and ferrofluid to dissipate heat out from the stator inside.
    This combination is what most people I've seen use and more data can be found on it here: ebikes.ca/product-info/grin-p...

    remembering hearing about hubsinks years ago when they were coming out. but seem like nobody does that now?

    Remove a little material from the joints in each section of the hub sinks for better contact with the hub you want a tighter fit to the hub for better heat transfer

      @EverythingEbikeChannel  Před 2 lety +2

      I could do, but that's a lot of work for probably not much gain at all. The hub and the fins feel at the same temp from the small amount of testing I've done so far which is the key aim.

    Awesome! Are you experiencing overheating (motor hot to the touch after a ride)? Or more of just a preventative measure?

    • @EverythingEbikeChannel
      @EverythingEbikeChannel  Před 2 lety +1

      Preventative at the moment as I haven't been on any long rides and expect it to heat up with 350A phase

      If you mean the pistons have been pushed in too far, just get something in there (ideally a plastic spudger but can be a screwdriver) and push them back as far as they will go.

    How long can you ride ad 45kph before it over heats

    • @EverythingEbikeChannel
      @EverythingEbikeChannel  Před 2 lety +1

      Haven't tested long distance yet, but barely gets hot pulling 8kW for about 3 miles

    Will I get better range with these mods? Seems like less would ease battery usage.

    • @EverythingEbikeChannel
      @EverythingEbikeChannel  Před 2 lety

      It's more about dissipating heat rather than making the motor more efficient, but perhaps lower coil temps have a slightly lower resistance so save a bit of power? Will have to see when I get out riding it.

    • @sammiller6631
      @sammiller6631 Před 6 měsíci

      You get better range by reducing air resistance. The air resistance above 32 kph (20 mph) is so strong, it can cut your range in half. Lower your speed to double your range.

      The one I have is amzn.to/3I2XMtf but it's a bit wobbly for narrow frames so would now recommend one like this amzn.to/31U6s5M that has square arms that can be screwed down

      @Rick-fe8xn Před rokem +1

    • @Mash3OH3
      @Mash3OH3 Před 10 měsíci +3

      Apparently statorade plus these hubs is the best type of cooling you can get for your stator. Compared to drilling holes or watercooling

    • @rowannadon7668
      @rowannadon7668 Před 9 měsíci +2

      It’s 100 percent worth it. Allows you to double your power output to the motor without overheating. This allows you to get up to 8000w peak, 6000 continuous on a 135mm dropout motor that normally can only do 3000w continuous.
