- Hey Designers! Everyone is telling you how to become a successful event decorator but I’m here to share how to NOT become a successful event decorator! Backward, right? Lol!
Although this video has my opinion about why you shouldn’t become a successful event decorator, there are a lot of facts on what you should do instead. Building my balloon business helped me get back-to-back clients when I first started out and I had to learn early that becoming a successful event decorator is not the best way to make it in this industry.
You must shift your mindset around how to build your event business and it should never be built on doing it all! In this video, I discuss the fastest way to start making money in your business and get clients who are willing to pay!

Today is my second time watching this video, I watched it before many months ago and it showed back on my feed and I know why. I've been researching since last year because I'm planning to start my business of linen rental. I decorated for my oldest wedding 7 years ago over a hundred guests, my youngest last year over a 125 guests and my godson's graduation this past weekend planned for 50-60 guests. I've done a few others on a small scale, old school style but nothing major. My family thinks I could do event decorating but that's not what I want to do. I know it's hard work for one or two people. I want to rent linen. It was hard to find reasonably priced linen for the events I've done so I purchased them all close to the price of rental go figure. Now, I know it'll be harder work since I'll be washing, drying and ironing but I have a plan that I believe will work☺️ and most dislike that task. And I know I'll probably still do decorating for events of 75 or less on occasion as I do enjoy it. My prayers are that we all are successful in whatever we do.
Little background: I lost my husband, live if my life. Of course, I went from 2 incomes to one and I really need another income. I started doing balloons casually w a friend n fell in love. How do I see your workshops?? Thank you for all you do to help people like me. Blessings.

Your videos are very informative. I started a balloon decor business in 2020 and it has struggled tremendously due to people not wanting to pay full price for my craft. I made a promise to myself to make new rules in the new year. Keep up the positive work!

Love the video , yes false hopes . I told you everyone commented I know about my business . Then I had to let them know I was on my job for 15 yrs and that’s where all my dedication went at the time . Then covid hit so starting a business I feel maybe easier mindset then if you started as a hobby and now trying to charge lol 😅😅😅I’m hanging in there , keep the videos coming .

Thank you for this explanation. You're right and I'm glad the click-bait title was followed up by actual legitimate advice. Now, the only problem I have is... what exactly do I specialize in? My interests are wide-ranging and I'm struggling choosing one career path let alone one specialty. I'll keep this advice in mind.
Pick an option based on what you’re good at and what people want. That’s usually how people make money in this industry.

You are absolutely correct. Is there exactly the answers I was looking for. I left the army 10 years ago, did human resources. But I was always an artist at heart (I’ve done envy artistry imaginable). I did one baby shower with an aunt that showed me how to do balloon garland. But I never really knew How do to set it up (it was from my sister-in-law’s baby shower). I am a perfectionist, but with Puerto Ricans everything is last-minute lol. Now I am designing for my sister’s baby shower, and I want it to be extravagant. I work for American Express now and it is a wonderful job but I want something as my own. I want my own business. I’m thinking about getting into decor. my sister picked a very strange color which is navy blue and she wanted a nautical theme for the baby shower. Trying to find a medium between elegance and rustic. Especially the color. She is extremely particular and hard to please. But she trust me because she knows that I am a perfectionist. However, her boyfriend has his own opinions ( to mention she is extremely shy and he is bringing 70 people. she is only bringing 15). And I did not anticipate a party this big! He bought the hall with a capacity of 100 people. She however, wanted a small gathering, in which I could accommodate MUCH BETTER on a budget. After all of this, I realize that I love this field but I wanted to know how to get started. I like that you mentioned short term and long term goals. This is exactly how I think I have only an hour to set up, but her boyfriend wants it to be extravagant, how do you balance both thank you for the videos very insightful!

It will only take common sense to know that you cannot do an event all by yourself, I do balloons, floral arrangements draping but I have two assistance, for some years now that comes to assist me, I had great tips from another event decorator also on CZcams, very informative
