Have you ever wondered what it takes to start an event designing business? In this video, I “debunk” the TOP 6 mistakes most event designers [including myself] make when starting their event designing business.
I get so many questions about how I got started and I’m always hearing HUGE mistakes beginning event designers are making when starting their business.
I had to learn the hard way but I wanted to make it easier for you if you wanted to start your own business.
There are so many questions that I hear other designers ask so I really hope this video answers the main questions I hear all the time!

I just started and I have my event coming up this Saturday. It’s a sweet sixteen party. It’s a family and I only charged $100 for a garland and 2 columns. First of all thanks for this video it was a blessing to me. My husband tells me the same thing about concentrating on one thing instead of so many other things. I am new to event business. I have been decorating for friends and family but want to move into this full time and learning more about getting clients and pricing.

I literally have these issues always think I can wing it try to get a plan but never go by it. I want to do a little bit of everything Birthday parties, wedding showers etc.

Event Decorating for small events. I’m going to invest in some floral classes to become better. I don’t want to attract the wrong customers and I’m not experienced to do it all. I did begin to buy things and my cart with CV Linens is full. I’m so glad I watched a few videos before spending unnecessary money.

I never got certified and neither does my event designers and they've booked clients back-to-back. I think the certification just makes us feel more confident but it's not necessary in my opinion

3:47 Can you please give examples of specific areas we can focus on? I know you've mentioned balloon garlands as an example but what would other areas be? That's where I'm having trouble... as a newbie we think we have to be able to do everything and are not sure exactly which aspects can be singled out to focus and and get good at before moving to other areas.
Hi Brit, I would find two to three industry experts that offer multiple services and write down all the services and tackle the ones you are most interested in and the ones that's in the most demand. Also figure out what makes you happy and that you want to create long term. I had a designer who thought she wanted to do balloon designs and when she started working with me find out she was more talented with making treat designs. So I ask you what are you most interested in?

Hi there! Thanks for commenting on my video. I didn't get a degree for my business and neither did my mentors. Before you decide to invest your money in a degree within this industry, I would suggest getting some experience, whether volunteering or paid, with an event business to see if this is something you really want to do. I hope this helps!

That’s true a lot aren’t sharing but there are a lot of videos like ms event planner also planning event 101 . Far as the nitch yes it’s important . I haven’t found mine as yet . Great video for beginners 👍🏽 my opinion of course 🥰
I appreciate your feedback. A lot of people will invest in a lot of linens, a bunch of napkin holders, etc. and they haven't booked any clients. My suggestion would be to buy a minimum of things to showcase what you can do instead for an entire event setup. An example would be seasonal shopping when things are on clearance instead of paying full price. I hope this helps 😊

From my prospective; Urban people in general do not want to pay for anything and always want a deal, then they complain about everything. You want to market to people who value your expertise, otherwise you are just wasting time. Set your prices out of the low range so those type of clients won't call you at all.
