    Bebé's remarkably rapid ascent saw him sign for Manchester United at 20 years old - just over a month after he'd moved to Vitoria de Guimaraes, and only shortly after he'd moved out of the shelter he'd lived in as a teenager.
    It was a fairy tale - just without the perfect ending. So, what happened to the Portuguese forward?

People who have had training in prestigious schools and youth teams their entire lives have not even made it to a league and or farm league alone. Just insane, Bebe was saved by soccer.

  • @_createusernamelater_6041

    If Man U had kept him and had him training and playing reserve team games then he could have become something big. The idea of loaning out a player is to help get them experience but they need to understand the basics of tactics first. If Man U had kept him in Manchester then they would have been able to hone his talent and teach him how to play the professional game well as well as giving him time to learn the mentality of a professional footballer, this could have help him become a true star of the game

    There's a mistake in the video, Paços de Ferreira did not survive Liga NOS relegation through a playoff the season before Bebé join. They did that in the season he was there. In the season before he joined they actually made one of the greatest underdog campains in Portugal in recent years, finishing 3rd and qualifying to the Champions League playoff. Their manager was Paulo Fonseca who is now at AS Roma. Despite the mistake, I still think it's a great video. I've somewhat followed Bebé's career, specially during the years he played in Portugal and I always had the feeling he could play at a higher level. Maybe if he had stayed in Vitória Guimarães he could've developed without much pressure and ultimately make a better career. Still, I'm glad he foud stability in Spain, he seems like a good person and his story is truly remarkable

  • @dotsgrey
    @dotsgrey Před 4 lety +1

    I'm *not* saying that Bebe is gay, but I often wonder about 'journeymen' footballers, and whether being gay has made them outcasts in what is obviously a high-octane, testosterone, macho industry, forcing them to move from one club to another, to another, etc..
    Perhaps teammates don't like it, perhaps some of them come from countries or cultures in which homosexuality is illegal, or certainly not allowed or respected. They find it difficult to settle into the club, and find themselves lonely and forgotten, and their performances reflect this. Soon enough they depart, and find themselves in the same position all over again.
    This is one aspect of this discussion which hasn't been included. Mostly, it's about how being openly gay would mean you receive abuse from opposing fans.... Never it's mentioned that managers or players might privately reject a teammate, refuse to play with him, or sign him in the first place. Perhaps there are even 'gay friendly' clubs, with openly gay members of backroom staff, the manager, a few more players that would be statistically typical.... Maybe a player gets a call from a player there "come sign for us, everyone's cool here, you won't get any hassle"....
    This is all my opinion and speculation, but I think it's worth considering as part of the debate.
    Perhaps it's time Tifo continued their superb work, and applied it to this topic.

    Amazing European Portuguese pronunciation (without trying too hard and making it sound awkward). At least for a Brit. Just missing the "sh" sounds. The guy who narrates these is great.

    It's Queiroz not Quieroz, but all good!
    It's also Paços de Ferreira not pacos, pronouncing passos
    And its bem-vindo bebé, not vinda, that would be the female version
