Welcome to another Least Used Station video! Today's video is of the Broad Channel and Beach 105 Sts Stations on the A Line (and Rockaway Park Shuttle). These two stations are the second least used, and THE least used stations in the whole system. This video is a cool and interesting one, so stick around until the end.
i thought it was aquadact racetrack or grant ave
Loved it!
Yea the S is pretty underused especially since you would rather get off at Rockaway Blvd and only wait like 5 minutes for a Q53 while if you get off at broad Chanel you would most likely wait 10-15 minutes plus the possibility of having to wait for that draw bridge.
Yeah, you gotta wait for the infrequent shuttle, and MTA fails to make it a properly timed connection to the A which is also infrequent. At least these two things are in MTA's hands, unlike the bridge lol
Damn , Beach 105 st keeps burning down !
I would like to add on regarding the history of Beach 105th Street station somewhat. Namely that the Ocean Electric Railway did not begin stopping there until at least 1898, which went on until 1925. The station was also initially at-grade, with low platforms (Broad Channel also had these until 1956) and a railroad crossing nearby. It wasn't until the 1942 rebuild that the station became elevated, partly in anticipation of the impending conversion to a subway line.
Nice. Thanks for the extra information.
I always suspected the elevation was a reaction to some of the flooding caused by the Great Hurricane of 1938.
Regarding the Ocean Electric Railway, this was also a consolidation of two former horse-drawn trolley companies; The Far Rockaway Railroad and the Rockaway Village Railroad.
I drove by both stations with a friend who wanted to go to the Broad Channel wildlife sanctuary. We then decided to go to the beach. IMHO, if the A train served both Rockaway Park and Far Rockaway, ridership would be higher at B105th Street. There's a great diner by Rockaway Park B116th Street. Great food there.
"Broad Channel" is what my father called the Lifetime network back in the day.
lifetime network sounds good cuz. i like this station 2 calm myself. often i do some "virtuell einstellen" there.
he did not just slip in "R179 lemon rolling stock" LMAO.
I had to 😂
@@MysticTransit 🍋
All the subway stations on the Rockaway branch all used to be Long Island railroad stations
Probably gets 10x the number of transferring people between the A and S.
It sure seems that way.
It makes it very similar to the transfer platform at Pittsburg/Bay Point on BART, which has no entrances or exits and only exists to provide a transfer between the Yellow Line and eBART. However, Broad Channel does have an entrance and exit. It’s just that there’re very few people who get in or out of that station instead of transferring.
Apparently from Howard beach to broad channel, it’s the longest time the train take to get to station to station
I can definitely believe that, it’s like 2-3 miles or something like that. I have a feeling that another contender for longest travel time is CPW Exp, between 125th St & 59th St. Thats another 3 or so miles.
@@MysticTransitwith no stations
Be prepared to use your bug spray when waiting at Broad Channel in the summer season, kawz the mosquitoes will get you. Also they should bring the (H) back and get rid of the (S) letter route. There's too many "S" shuttle letters around the system as it is. I would recommend bringing the train back to Rockaway Park during rush hours. That way passengers don't have to wait at Broad Channel during the cold winter season and the mosquito ridden summer season.
The ONLY (S) letter route should be used for the Franklin & 42 Street Shuttles. THAT'S IT!
Been here since the beginning and its good to see how far this series is going. Btw here is a free sub
Thanks for joining the MysticTransit community. Glad you've been here from the beginning, and you've gotten to see how the series have evolved.
Great stuff - thank you and best of luck with your channel!
Enjoying this series, very informative! =D
on top of the pretty interesting facts you also talk very well. keep up the good work man.
Really? Haven't heard that one before. Glad you think so.
I make a station stop everyday at broad channel, this is a very busy station. Especially during summer days. I would say B25 is not that busy same for 104 st, 111 southbound and north conduit both directions.
Yeah, Broad Channel is a busy station, however, that's because it is a big transfer point for those using the Shuttle. Not many people enter the station there, which causes it to fall way down the MTA's ridership standings.
Lmao @ the Lemon R179 comment. That was great.
This is an interesting series; I hope you stick with it.
FYI, this is the second video I've watched where you mention accessing the station by using the train that serves it. That's rather obvious and unhelpful. Perhaps restate as "apart from the train, the station can be accessed by...."
I'll consider saying it like that for future videos. I have gotten previous comments talking about that, and in my newest video, I have changed the way I say it, it does still include the Line Number/Name, but as a way of mentioning what lines stop there.
NOTIFICATION GANG IM NOT LATE ALSO IM SO HAPPY FOR IND CANT WAIT THE E/F which I’m guessing the least used station for those lines is 75th Ave I live in Jamaica queens and every time I pass it or stop on it on the E/F there’s 1/3 people there
"Noti Gang" *Posted at 4 PM...*
Also, no need to yell, Idk what the Least Used on the E/F will be, but if I had to guess: I'd say the E would be 75 Av maybe, and the F would be Ave U or something like that in Brooklyn. It would be cool if you are right though, I could just easily lump those two lines into one video.
Love this series! How often are you planning to post new videos within this series?
About every week. The day used to be Friday's, but with school starting back up, I'm changing it to Saturday's, so everyone can watch it immediately, instead of waiting until school lets out. I can't guarantee a video in this series each week, as I am currently working on bringing a new series to the channel now, but it will be relatively frequent.
6:56
r.i.p people watching that at the middle of the night
The Rockaway shuttle should be extended from Rockaway beach-116th street out towards Metropolitan Avenue near Woodhaven Blvd or if possible send it all the way down to Queens Blvd
0:14 Five A trains originate from Rockaway Park during AM rush hours and another five terminate there during PM rush hours. But I assume you’re only referring to full-time stations.
Just a quick request: When talking about the routes, could you cut in some map graphics to help out those of us who are less familiar with the geography?
I was going to do that for this video, however, I didn't know exactly how I would put in the map graphics. I'll try that for the next vid.
@@MysticTransit You probably already know this, but a good person to ask is Geoff Marshall, because he walks this beat in London. He's a good guy and I'm sure he'd be willing to help.
@@MysticTransit By the way, I love your intros and outros in this series. That's some good stuff.
I actually take some inspiration from Geoff Marshall for this series, I don't really want to bother him for something so simple as the map graphic. I'll figure it out for the next video.
Also, thanks. I try and make the intros & outros cool, showing the Announcement for the station, and the next station in the series.
Jesus it’s a fire 😵💫
Other that Gravesend-86th Street, is there a least used station on any of the lines that’s a full time terminal? 86th Street is a rush-hour terminal, so I’d wanted to ask why.
This earned a sub from me!
Cool. Welcome to the MysticTransit community!
It’s cool how you compared two different lines (A and S.) You should try to do this more!
Well, they both ran to both stations, and both stations were their least used, so I kinda had to. Idk if there will be more of that in this series, but when I can, I'll try to do more.
@CZcamsLover123
he made a video comparing the 42 St shuttle with the 7
Hard to believe that is the least used station on the a line
Hard to believe fuckin Broad Channel has a train but East Flatbush doesn’t.
I just spotted that at 2:06 the A train has a C roll-sign in the middle, how common is this?
I wonder if it's really worth it for DTG to do the entire A & C trains Rockaway Beach all the way to the Upper West Side of Manhattan 207th street that is 32 miles from end to end but it's played like Sand Patch Grade 1hr 35 duration. Had it stayed under Long Island Railroad the M7 & M9 will be common
It wouldn't be anything like Sand Patch Grade. SPG was a freight route, with slow, heavy locomotives, carrying freight around mountainy and hilly areas. This would be a subway route, consisting of multiple different types of services with A Trains Running to either Far Rockaway, Rockaway Beach, and Lefferts. C Trains running to Euclid Avenue, with some Peak Hour Trains terminating at World Trade Center (Rare). And the E Train running between Jamaica Center or 179 St, to World Trade Center, with some running Express, and others running Local.
oh FUCK YES BABY!!!
i love listening to these videos while playing world of subways 4 nyc line 7
“This is” CAPPPPPPOOOOOO THIS IS VERY USED
I used this station a lot.
What about Roosevelt Island Station? Isn't it a "least used"? You have the Tram (Skyway) as an option.
Dean Street on the Brooklyn shuttle was the least used.
5:15 Its going to be used this weekend when the S reroutes to Far Rockaway.
Why is the (S) getting rerouted? Any source for this info?
@@MysticTransit its being rerouted due to contruction on the line between Broad Channel and Rockaway Blvd, all A trains will be running to Lefferts. I definitely would send the link if CZcams would quit deleting my comments.
Next, can you do Norwood 205th Street? It’s my home stop.
205 isn't the least used on the (D) Line. I only do the Least Used Stations in this series. The Least Used for the (D) is 55 St. The next video in this series is Liberty Avenue on the (C) Line.
@@MysticTransit oh okay. Thanks
Hasn't ANYBODY realize That is 2:06 The sign says (C)? I cannot be the only one!
It does say (C). The train crew doesn't usually care much about the rollsigns in the middle of the train, so occasionally, you'll find odd signs there. I've once seen a (J) on the center rollsign on an R46.
@@MysticTransit Oh I was thinking that they were just lazy also a friend of mine found a old 9 train sign on an R62/A 1 train
Will you do least used on 42nd street shuttle?
No, Lines like the Shuttles (The Rockaway one doesn't count, as it's basically a full fledged line, and shares the least used with the A) will not be talked about in this series.
When will the most used station series start I feel it should start the same time the least used station videos go up
Most Used Stations will start after the Least Used Stations series finishes. I have other series’ planned for the channel though, like “Gems of the System/Most Interesting Stations”, and more.
Not as interesting as we already know about those. This series is excellent, as well as facts and b roll included.
That S train deserves to be called the H
Yes, it was the H on few occasions
Nah I'd keep it as the S train. The A splits into two branches, so one of the two should be called the H.
Idea: we could make the H a full line, have it run express on 8th Avenue with the A, and have both the A and the H can have different terminals in The Rockaway’s. That way, the A can now only have 2 southern terminals instead of 3.
With the money that the MTA makes, why are they still using those OLD ASS OUTDATED 4 car and 8 car trains for the A- line and Shuttle trains?
How about the 145th Street Station on the 3 train?
Not a least used station.
Didn’t I say Broad Channel? Meh 😑 I don’t really care.
You said it was the least used in the entire MTA system, when its actually the second least. Not a big deal though.
@@MysticTransit Yeah you’re right.
How long is the ride from Far Rockaway to Times Square? Time and miles?
i’d say a good hour and like 10-20 minutes
45 Mins to an Hour. Probably longer. My trip on the (A) for the footage from these stations was from Fulton St to Broad Channel, and that was a good 30 Mins (with it running EXP.)
@@MysticTransit oh wow that’s fast ian think that
@@MysticTransit i like your vids by the way keep it up 👍🏽
Just extend the Shuttle to Rockaway Blvd
I would have done them in order of getting lesser used. 42nd street shuttle would have gone first (Grand Central), and then I think E.
I just decided to do it in order of trunk lines, to have everything be organized.
That's how Geoff Marshall does it, and of course NYC has to be different from London. ;-)
@@MysticTransit I like the organization tbh.
Hi @MysticTransit
Hi @That Transit Dude550
monsters don't smells like early skunk today. more like CBD
I blame the Rock Park Shuttle for the decline ridership before 1993 the C train operate to B 116 street NYCT claim the Red Birds R 30 need to be retired on the C line so the they cut back the C line to Euclid Ave to put the Rock Park Shuttle in its place since then We now know the agency lied The real reason for the cut back of C service and removed of the R 30s was to put OPTO (One Person Train Operation) no conductors on board the shuttle & a source of controversy in July of 1997 when the press exposed the lies Three assaulted that happened on the shuttle was instead reported on a C or A train The press was found out about the lied when the car numbers of the last assault which result in a death did not match any of the rush hour A trains but did match a Rock Park shuttle train NYCT got away with murder twice but the NYPD got blamed instead
But this was they plan all along since the 1960s
No the service should be restored the C train back to Rockaway Pk so there be more service to JFK Airport and the Casio two stop away
When you are on the subway, do you wear your mask? I do for sure!
Of Course.
