  • From well before the beginning of the NYC subway in 1904 to the present day, this is the most comprehensive history of the 42nd street shuttle on CZcams. This project was almost six months in the making (I started early October 2022), mostly because of other conflicting video projects.
    I hope you find this video informative, thank you so much for watching. If you have any corrections, please comment them below and I will make updates to the description and/or pinned comment.

    I started this project in October and have been working on it off and on since... my bad
    There are sources and credits in the description, if I got anything wrong please let me know and I'll make an update.
    It's been my dream to make an actually 'educational' video for ... maybe four five years? It's a way of justifying the excessive amount of time I spend editing. I think I've finally gotten it done though. Thanks for reading and watching.

      Thank you for showing the picture of the old 8 Third Ave Elevated line and the second Ave Elevated line ninth Ave Elevated line. It's a shame that they torn down the Thrid Avenue Elevated line 1974 shuttle. Keep bringing the Thrid Avenue Elevated line back. We are definitely gonna miss the view at Times Square 42nd Street seeing the 1 2 3 lines passing by.

    In terms of editing, this is the most creative rail history video I've ever seen (what's the name of your editing software?) Only suggestion for future videos is to include a conclusion sentence, since the end came rather suddenly. Otherwise, keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see what you'll work on next.

      Thanks man, I really do appreciate how you've stuck around the channel since the beginning. Looking back at the ending I definitely agree, even a few sentences as wrap up or future plans or something would go a long way.
      Also, I use Premiere Pro and After Effects to make these videos, motion graphics and animation stuff is done in After Effects and brought into Premiere for general layout since it's better for long videos.

      @@robert.halpern Are you aware of the unlisted shuttles? You won't find them on the map, and you won't find them during the day. You have to really dig into the subway time tables to find any acknowledgement they exist, which for some stupid reason they are trying to phase out from publishing at all. But its right there, on the website. Overnight a few of the branches on the periphery of the system switch to shuttle service. You would never stumble upon this fact unless you were looking through weird mta documents or if you lived there.

      @mohamad There are ideas floating around to test at several stations but 4 stations ain't gonna cut down on anything. Plus those barriers have no electronics and are simple bars, wait till you add actual weight to them.

      Three stations are scheduled to get platform screen doors as part of a pilot: the 7 and trains' platform at Times Square; the E train's platform at Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue-JFK Airport; and the L train's Third Avenue station. Whether it will be a success or not is still up in the air; however, the 7 and L having CBTC may make this more successful for them (the E is getting CBTC soon).

    • @IIAOPSW
      @IIAOPSW Před rokem

      They really can't. by its design, its at the same level as the 4/5/6. Any expansion means one crosses in front of the other forcing it to wait and be delayed. They can't put it one layer higher because its on the top already. It can't go one lower, the 7 is under it. It can't veer off to the side, Grand Central is right there. Its stuck.
