🤯You saved my life!! Why is this feature not more easily accessible?!?!
Just learned about this feature, so I am watching this video because your tutorials are always great. And now the layers can lock. Between the layers pane, swapping, changing visibility, grouping with a keystroke, and locking, this might actually be kinda awesome.
I have listened to many of your videos and find that your presenting style is the easiest to follow, not to mention your information cuts right to the heart of specific issues. Thank you for helping me make my work product that much better
This is an invaluable tool. I have "inherited" several PowerPoint files that I need to modify regularly. This video really helped me identify the elements on the slides making it easier to make changes.
Thank you! This was really helpful and your videos make doing dynamic things with PowerPoint really easy.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, it was exactly what I needed.
Awesome! Thank you Kevin. I would often get confused concerning layers in Powerpoint and wanted to know how to label them like Photoshop. This was a great help.
That makes things so much easier. Thank you for the tutorial!
Thanks! I had so many animated items stacked on top of each other I couldn't see each one clearly. This video made me realize I could hide the ones I wasn't working with at the moment.
Thank you! Very helpful and you're talented at explaining clearly.
keep them coming bro. Thank you for sparing your time for us.
Nice; I used the selection panel a few years ago and this has reminded me of the functionality that is ideal for a labelling method I'll implement for a geographical graphics piece of work I'm doing.
Oh, I was expecting real layer support and wondered where that hides in PPT. But moving up/down on the selection pane is a good tip.
Thank you, Kevin this was really helpful info, 😊
SUPER helpful and easy to understand, thank you!
Thanks so much for your Information, I've learned something by watching your video!! Please keep doing much more videos!
Great tip and how to use Power Point - thank you.
Thanks for this video Kevin, this will really help me work on the project I'm doing right now.
Great, Kevin. Thanks for the help!
You just literally save my life.
Thank you - very helpful!! Very clear.and easy to understand.
Nice, sweet, and to the point - thank you
Nice overview. I haven't spent time with the Selection pane and this is a very useful, quick recap. Not sure I agree that PowerPoint can do the thing that a full fledged photo editor is capable of doing. But quite brilliant in skilled hands.
pure gold. thank you
I needed this so bad. Thank you
thank you this was very helpful on a school project. nice vid and keep up the great content.
Thanks Kevin,
I did not know that I knew it!
We learn many things but don't know how to apply those!
thx kev I love ur content
I cut my teeth on using layers in MS Word Newsletters, It was so much fun using that to create office newsletters this is the next step up! Thank you for showing us how to do this in PPT form. The options with this program are vast!!!
You can also access the "Selection Pane" a little faster, if you already have an image, by double clicking the image to bring up "Picture Format" ribbon tab and there is a big 'Selection Pane' button right next to Bring Forward, Send Backward buttons.
Thanks for the tutorial Kevin :)
Loving your video's. Keep up the clever work. I am also a starting CZcamsr and looking at the User Experience of tools and products. But when I look up stuff that I am interested in your video's keep popping up.
Great vid! Thanks Kevin
Thank you Kevin the video was very useful
Hi, Kevin. Thanks a lot !!
one of those hidden gems! can you organize into having parent / sublayers in the selection pane? Or maybe if you group elements can you see the subelements directly from the selection pane? Also is there an ability to lock a layer so you still want to be able to visually see it while making graphic adjustments but not accidentally select it by accident?
Another thing I would like U to be more specific on, is when selecting a icon which button on the mouse should use whether the right or the left, because that will also be of good help!! Thanks!
in like 2 minutes i watched obs studio tips and tricks and now i watch this to make my thumbnail lol i subscribe
A nice additional animation option might be bring something forward "on click". This would allow highlighting boxes over an image to only show when called to do so leaving a PDF of the PPT clean to review.
Today on Mac Catalina, I noticed that layers did a 3D split view and allowed for dragging the layer order. Pretty cool. Not sure if Windows has this.
great video. Thanks, kindly continue on how to hidden text in the layer
Hi Kevin. Thanks. The LAYER panel plus the HIDE functions are good. However, it would be great if the next version upgrade also allows us to SELECT and LOCK an image, tools similar to those in Photoshop and AI. That way, we could work with all the other graphics that are UNLOCKED for fine-tuning the layout. I usually get problems when trying to select a small object/graphic in front of a large background graphic.
IMHO, Slide master locks
thanks, agree life saver and such a powerful function
Nice tutorial!
i like your topics thanks much
Awesome used to working with layers but never new that they were I PP👍🏻👍🏻
THANK YOU!
Thank you. This was very informative. Can you make a master slide item always sit on the top layer?
The concept covered is excelkent. But it will be more effective if you run a small presentation using the instant concept.
Thanks For information bro
Hi Kevin. Is there a way to overlap objects and text on top of a picture placeholder box on the master slide (as a template) so that the object and text are still on top when you add that master to the deck?
Love you brother
Kevin ok that was super helpful but I was hoping you could show how to insert a layer for a quiz or how to build a story using layers
Thank you
thanks mate
Thanks Kevin.. Is there a way to hide layers across all slides. Ex we have a live Presentation with minimal text and telling the storyline, and when we share the presentation with the client, we also show the layer with the text and extra bullet points.
How to work with selection and group together? In particular, add or remove object in a group that has animation attached? Is it possible to add new object to group without breaking the group (ie. ungroup 1st)?
Thank you
Thanks ❤
Can you have multiple objects existing on one layer, because it seems like each object that you add to a slide exists on a layer by itself.
Hey Kevin,
Is there any way to lock the layer in PowerPoint?
Just want to ask do morph transition ang hyperlink work when save as mp4?Thank you.
Good work
Kevin what do you know about layering items on the slide master and in normal view? I have the layers the way i want them in the slide master view, but in normal the image placeholder item appears in front of everything.
Good info, but need to know how to use layers in Masters so that the Master layers sit above content in slide.
Hi Kevin, thanks for the great insights! One further question: Does Powerpoint have an option to lock for e.g. a Logo on top of a picture in the masterslides and still have the picture replaceable in normal view mode?
I have the same question. It would be great if it was like InDesign in that way.
Kevin, there is an issue which i couldn't solve. Can you help me about it? For example, i want to move a few different objects together in one movement by only an animation. That's why i group them together with a background or frame which is considered as a page in where those objects are located. And that page will move together with its objects anymore after i applied an animation to the group. And it works well. Everything is okay. But when i try to add another object inside of that group to make it as a part of that group and of that animation, then i can not add it. I have to ungroup it totally (making this automaticly removes the animation), and then i have to choose new object together with the ungrouped objects, and then i must again group them to create same animation again of that group. And i have to again create same animation for the re-grouped objects.
Totally same trouble also happens when i want to remove an object from an animated group. Again i make ungroup (it removes animation automaticly), then i remove the object which i want to remove. Then i again group the remaining objects, and i again add the animation. If i can not solve this trouble, if i have to waste time like this, i will not use Powerpoint. Can you help me, please ??
Can you use layering in the slide master as well? I want to add "DRAFT" to the master slide so it appears on all slides. However I would like it to appear on top of everything else and not under like every other tutorial out there is showing. Is that possible?
I also have this question! How can I work with layers when making layouts in Slide Master? For example if I want to add a color block over a photo in a master slide, when I go back to normal view ppt doesn't recognize my color block.
Hi Kevin, how would I be able to overlay, something like glitter, or bubbles or something else, over my video or photos in a slideshow? Or, how would I be able to change the image or video from COLOR, to B/W, Sepia or something else..thank you..
Thanks
Thanks. How to I change an item in a layer. I need to replace an item. (I am a beginner)
Hi Kevin!! Can you make a video on how to add crop marks to powerpoint? is it possible?
Hey Kevin, great video! Can you please help us with locking objects? As we work on Teams, we have files being edited by 18 people concurrently on sharepoint. Large 80 page report. Some objects are live tables from Excel where they should not change or move at all in PPT and data is updated in Excel and reflects on PPT as it has been pasted linked. The issue is after closing Powerpoint and opening it back up, the excel pasted linked tables, resize to some gigantic size. Can you please help fix this bizzare issue? The issue has been around for a while and most comment pages on microsoft forums are locked and no solution provided. One user syggested the images to go in LAYOUT but we have live Excel tables and when I go to LAYOUTs the PASTE function is depricated and past as link from excel does not exist.
How do you lock all the layers down to create a slide that cannot be moved?
Is there any way to lock the bottom layer? So many times I've been trying to move an upper layer object and it will grab my background and move it. It would be so great to be able to lock a background.
There’s a new feature to lock layers. You can access in the selection pane.
Where do I find the selection pane option when using Powerpoint for Mac?
Hi Kevin - Is there a way to lock one or more layers to keep them from accidentally being selected?
was looking for this. Did you find a way ?
How to edit equations in PowerPoint. I have saved file as ppt. So I can't edit the equations which I prepared. What to do
How to bring in front something from Master slide?
How do you group when the thing on the bottom is smaller and you can't grab it?
Use selection pane and click on each item in the pane with the control key. You can select multiple items and then group.
is there how to lock a layer?
Can you FLATTEN all the selected Layers within this? That's what I came here to see.. Please advise someone
THank you
PowerPoint!
can you lock layers?
You can turn layers on/off and re-order layers. Is that what you’re asking about locking?
@@KevinStratvert thanks for the reply Kevin. I meant lock it so it is visible but you can't select it.
@@noiseworks I see, that would be helpful to have. I don't believe you can do that today in PowerPoint. A few options: use a Slide Master to lock certain items. Alternatively, move the layer to a lower layer so it's still visible but not as easy to inadvertently click. If that still doesn't do it, you can request the feature here: powerpoint.uservoice.com/
Sorry I should say layers
@@KevinStratvert thanks, moving the layer lower is a good tip
This would have been better if you started with the end result then proceeded how it was done.

Technically those aren't layers, just the order of elements. I was hoping PowerPoint actually had real layers so your master page items (like page numbers) would not get covered up by photos on slides where you want a large photo, etc.
This video would have been better if you started from scratch and created a composite slide
I like when you make shorter videos
Love this tip. Layers could be better developed by MS I think as it's pretty rudimental. I also wonder if there is a way to add a shape to existing group of layers, without creating a nested group...
