Workout for Weight Loss for Seniors & Beginners Cardio & Strength with Dumbbells

- Weight Loss workout perfect for beginners and seniors using low impact cardio and dumbbells for strength training.
The first half of this fun workout is all low impact cardio to increase the heart rate and burn calories. It's easy to follow along and get a great workout!
The second half is weight training using dumbbells. I'm using 10 pounds in this workout. Please use what you are comfortable with and always start lighter if you are unsure.
We loose 5 pounds of muscle every decade after 30 years of age. Unless we increase our strength training, that muscle turns into fat. Muscle burns a lot more calories than fat and continues to burn calories long after the workout. Up to 3 days later! Lifting heavier weights is also imperative in maintaining and increasing bone density. This workout includes the best of everything and can be done multiple times a week. It is done all in a standing position and includes a warm up and stretching.

I am in my early 30s, but I engaged in very unhealthy eating habits in my teens and early 20s that caused substantial weight loss and of course, muscle loss.
Even after I gained back some of the weight through a solid, informed diet and a drastic mental shift, I honestly worried I had damaged my body forever. I was so weak I couldn't get through most exercise videos, and it wasn't for lack of trying.
Thank you for these videos. They are challenging but not overwhelming. I am sore, but I am able to function the next day. They give me hope that I can restore my body to a healthy muscle to fat ratio in time.

This was excellent! I’ve been doing your workouts (and others) since January and have lost 25 lbs! Now I need to shop for new clothes, although I hate shopping for clothes. But everything is too big now so I guess I have to bite the bullet!

Absolutely LOVE this 41-minute Cardio with Weights workout! I had to back off the 5 lb weights and go back to 3 for some of the other videos with weights because of my shoulders. I use 5 lb weights for this one and it worked out just fine so far. Thank you so much you have made me stronger!

I did this type of workout at the gym classes with other ladies 13- 15 years ago and loved them.
Life challenges and changes happened and I have been trying to get back to working out at home now and eating correctly. Age 65 now and a little more stiffer but so glad to do this workout again. It challenges the mind and the body and I did indeed remember most of the moves. YAY!!.

Used 10lb weights throughout the workout. Getting better and better at tightening my abs and keeping pelvic tilted when appropriate through the workouts. It is showing that is it being tightened as well. Thank you Lauren! Have a great workout. 😅😅😅😊😊

This is one I will be returning to time and again. I am 73, and using 5 lbs weights due to cranky elbow and shoulder, with no problem, until we did the balance-challenging lunges. I can see that my balance while holding a weight needs work (like carrying groceries up some steps!). Thank you for all the tips!

I use seven and ten pound weights. Seven for pushing up over the head and the for the rest. I have been exercising with you for about three years now and love your videos. I am 74 , but feel stronger than when I was in my sixties, thanks to you and your videos!

Great combination of cardio and weights, Lauren! I used 6 pound weights and by the end I was glistening. This was appropriate for anyone as I had a bad whiplash injury in 1985 which was not properly addressed and I suffered from neck, shoulder and back degenerative disc disease as well as fibromyalgia, massive migraines, IBS and chronic pain as a result of this and I am 68 years old! This workout was just right! Thanks so much!

Hi Lauren! I am 61 & started working out with you about a month ago and I love it so much! I have been a consistent exerciser for years and became proficient in weight training in 2014. Unfortunately, I have dealt with three abdominal surgeries in the past six years. Being cautious and dealing with repeated recoveries has really changed the way I work out and I love that you have so many creative workouts that include so many compound movements! Even though this is one of your older videos I did it this morning for the first time. It's one of your BESTS! Your cardio is always deceptively challenging and the strength portion was perfect. I'm 57 and used 5 lbs weights. Some of the moves I could have used 8 lbs which I will try next time. I so appreciate YOU !!!

I just discovered these videos, and they’re perfect for getting back into weights, which I’ve skimped on the past few years. The warmups and workouts are solid. The cooldowns are not adequate for me, I have to say, so I stop the video and get down on the floor so I can do some proper stretching, like figure 4s and hamstring stretches. The cooldowns are the only weakness of these weight workouts.

I have been using your workouts for a few months now. I love the variety, especially barre, pilates, weights, and cardio. Before Covid, I went to a gym daily. Due to Covid and some health conditions, I have not felt comfortable returning to the gym. I am 71 and appreciate the variety of your videos. These are great exercises. I can participate and do everything, even though I had been out of shape and am almost 76 now. I did one or two silver sneakers and due to some jerky movements I got tendinitis in my elbow for about a week afterwards. I have no such problem with SeniorShape Fitness. You have saved my fitness life! I’m 63. I had a serious medical event a month ago and have been slowly returning to my normal life. I have been doing pretty intense workouts since my 20s but had to change since last month. Your workouts are perfect for “getting back” my fitness. I finally had a good sweat with your workouts! I am fit just recovering from injuries so this was perfect. I used 3 lbs (protecting my rotator area for now) I was at 2 when I first started. My heart rate got to 152 not bad for a 73 year old. Appreciate the ability to keep up with exercise with your workouts now that the weather is too cold for outside walks.

I am a lifelong exerciser who has had to take many months off due to illness. Three separate episodes of Covid have left me feeling drained, winded, sore, weak and inflexible. was able to use my 6 pound weights for the entire strength section. thanks so much this is really helping. I was recently diagnosed as pre diabetic and these workouts should help. it is new pushing my body this hard in a work out. i am not as nervous as I was about injuring myself. I am learning to trust my body. Now on to hip stretches. burned 250 caleries during this workout.

All I can say is wow! I never sweat doing workouts with anyone else. With yoyr videos, I definitely do. Thank you for incorporating both cardio and weights. The time goes by so quickly. Thank you also for not putting the timer on the screen. I so appreciate that. It's like being in a treadmill and you cover the time with a towel because you don't want to know how much time you have left.

I always love your workouts…the only one I cannot do is the Barre because of neuroma in my foot but LOVE the rest! I was dreading doing this one but used 5lbs and really like that cardio was half and strength the other half….thank you for reminding us of the “why” as we age. I’m 65 and workout 5-6 days a week. I got a good sweat out with this one today. But I have to tell you, since I started working out with your video's (beginning with the 'chair' ones for a month) for the last 2 1/2 months, the beginning of this one was super easy. Squats are no problem anymore! Had I made the decision to start yoga at the beginning of the Pandemic, I would be 15 lb. lighter. Here's to getting my senior shape back (6 days a week).

Thank you so so much for all you do for seniors like me and my community. This workout and others, like full body w/weights & barre w/ full body sculpting , encourage and challenge us to keep active. Many of us, however (and of course no fault of your own) are hearing impaired. For us, you are enough 💕 increasing the volume unfortunately increases more the music and not your instructions.

I'm not exactly a beginner but still get a good workout (sweat too!) from this video! Love the perfect combo of cardio and strength training. I use 3 and 5 lbs. weights.

Thank you. I used 2lbs each only. And 1kg each of ankle weights. It helps me a lot. I’m 65 years this coming sept of 2023 😅

Well done! As a senior personal trainer and group exercise specialist the only parts I wouldn't do with my senior advanced classes are the body rolls (some of my seniors get dizzy doing them) and the overhead triceps extension (senior shoulder issues - I'll do staggered stance tricep kickbacks or presses). I love the progression shown in cardio plus the beautiful background and finally, your delivery is superb!

Wow! I really enjoyed this video and I know I will feel it tomorrow. I have scoliosis with back pain and some limited mobility. I have a difficult time doing curtesy lunges and one legged squats, but your squat was perfect for me. I liked doing a longer video on the weekend, and the shorter ones are appreciated on a work day. Yesterday I did a stability posture video you have and I felt so good after completing it. Thank you for all you do!

Nice job! Just do an extra set of bicep curls instead of overhead exercises :)

Good morning Lauren, I have been doing your work outs not consistently enough. I’m 59 and need to keep my muscles strong. I started back on your workouts this week after along pause. I did the cardio on Monday and the weight loss today adding the stretches in between. I love the soft tone but I can really feel the muscle and sweat. Thank you. I’m working up to your kick boxing video. I also have shared verbally with my coworkers. Awesome workouts!!!

Really like this one. Back in my 30's I was really into lifting weights now I don't know why I stopped. I only used 5 pounds today but will increase next time. By the by, every time you ask if the tummy is pulled in, you can hear hell no as my answer. 😁Put a sign on you wall as a constant reminder and I more than likely will ignore it. My breathing is great, my belly button pulled in a work in progress. Thanks for asking since it is then pulled in for 10 seconds.
