You always do a thorough job Warren, and it's nice that you threw a shout out to your wife, because she probably knows you better than anyone, and she always gets your running done, gives a hand, and brings you bacon sandwiches for breakfast. God bless y'all.

Thanks for the share Warren. "never found a loose one" I live in salt country, NOTHING is ever loose. up here your biggest friends are a drill, good bits, and E-Z outs. Even if you have a hot wrench.... 9 times out of 10 the head of the bolt is rotted away where nothing fits..... well.... usually a metric socket and a bfh to pound the socket on.... but then usually the bolt snaps. here i am 62 yrs old and i'm lookin at getting back into it..... it's all i know it's all i've ever done my whole life, pull a wrench. Hit that like button folks!!

Just overhauled the same engine, took over a month to get a .020 rebuild kit. Makes me feel better that even famous people can't get parts.

  • @davidandkatherinewheeler3551

Dang warren your a animal. Just getting after it as as always, I don’t work ( on the job) many Sunday’s . I just recently had a head checked on a C9 they did a valve job and sent it back. I got it back, the high pressure oil galley in the head was plumb full of metal. A lot of machine shops will clean when there done machining but some don’t, your right always check everything that has been machined.

Warren, I always learn something when I see your videos cause for all the gas engines I have reworked and rebuilt. I have zero experience on a cummins or a ford diesel. So thanks a lot makes me a little less scared of buying one in the future. The older I get the less i try to remember especially torque values. I just try to remember where its written down. Your an unusal guy who worries bout his mom. Family is important. I am sure your mom and the move will all work out perfect. Keep us informed if any of us can help I am sure we will jump in and help.

Your advice on checking all the holes in stuff even applies to remand stuff from a distributor- I was working for distributor and rebuilding a 12 - 149 TIB Detroit- the rods were supplied as rebuilt - put the engine together and put it on the dyno - ran it for a while and it wouldn't idle- pulled off the air box inspection plates and found one hole that was seizing up. Orders were to put another kit in it and reuse the rod - as u can imagine I'm looking at everything - so I took the air nozzle and blew through the oil hole that oils the piston pin - air went through fine but had a strange sound - pushed a welding rod through the hole and it wouldn't go. Investigation found a broken drill bit in the drlled oil galley ... it had been there since new - no telling how many piston/liner kits that rod had ruined... so if the engine was just not being worked very hard things would be fine - but on generators and marine engine applications the lack of oil to the top of the piston will be detrimental to your warranty... so do like Warren says about checking all passages when your rebuilding engines.... nice video - what I do with those long heavy blocks is once you get the crank in it is to put a tall kickstand under the front snout on the crank - just put you some wood or cloth padding on it - you can through that harmonic balancer on the engine about last...

We have a wood burning stove. We drilled a hole in the flue pipe and put a feed pipe off a tank high on the wall to one side of the stove and regulated it with a gate valve. In side the stove there was a peace of metal a has the burner. Just get stove some sticks and logs on. Set fire 🔥 and when it gets hot inuff open the valve. Put the heat fan on the top and away she blows.

I once got over confident on a 258 AMC in a CJ7 I was rebuilding. This was in the day before all your bearings were blister packed in plastic. I guess a some point at a machine shop somewhere they had had 010 us and std bearings out of the boxes on a bench to compare or something ,who knows. You can guess the rest . Didn't look at the bearing measurement on the bearing itself just the box. 010us on a std crank and no oil pressure when I fired it up. I still 30yrs. Later double triple check everything and still wake up in the middle of the night and think did I look at that.

You could cut a hook out of 3/8 - 7/16 flat metal , exactly how you want the hook for the cherry picker and drill the pin hole . Those engine stands are made of cheap soft metal , they bend with V8 car engines , really a heavy engine needs more than 4 bell housing mounting bolts to the engine stand , cast iron will break , I think your better off building your own engine stand out of heavier steel with more mounting bolt holes , considering what they cost and what you end up with , or build you a (about)3 foot tall HEAVY table (with legs wide enough it wont turn over from the top heavy weight) to set the engine on in different positions , that bending over over all the time is a back breaker . Lubriplate was the standard for installing all engine bearings years ago , now days all kinds of assembly lube`s each one is the best made to hear them tell it , in later years I used STP oil treatment on gas engine bearings an add the rest of the can to the engine oil until the oil was changed the first time .

I see shippers every day. Im a delivery driver. They have little time to pull orders, sometimes they pick the wrong size box, or dont have packing bubbles, or both. Sometimes the shippers arent too bright or careful. Maybe the shipping manager is short handed and has to hire any warm body..its not skilled labor. When you can, especially for hot jobs..open the box asap!!! Nothing is guaranteed to arrive alive. I even delivered a 6 cylinder long block to a chevy dealer last month..the thing had rolled over..stuff was busted..i picked it up two weeks later, for return ..the engine was for a dealer techs daughters car. He wasnt happy

There is info for 24 Valve Cummings, like "valve lash measurements AND adjustments should only be performed when the engine coolant temperature is less than 60°C (140°F). Valve Lash Limits: (Inspection) Intake: Minimum 0.152 mm (0.006 inch) Maximum 0.381 mm (0.015 inch) Exhaust: Minimum 0.381 mm (0.015 inch) Maximum 0.762 mm (0.030 inch)", but what is minimum ambient/engine temperature for lash adjust/measurement? For new valves with stems, do you need to go max and later readjust after seating/burn in period?

When I worked underground my finger tips stayed cracked open around the edge of my finger nails , the cracks keep getting bigger an wider , first thing you know they ache all the time , I use to take a razor blade and cut the lips of the cracks off down as far as I could >>> instant relief ..............
