      I haven't watched the whole video, so I assume you found something wrong other than the sensor.
      I have run into a similar problem with trailer ABS sensors. Since the sensor is a generator, it's possible that even 1ohm of line resistance may cause the variation between input and output readings. I don't know ANY of the particulars for your tractor, like how wide the allowable voltage variation is, so this is pure speculation based on general electrical principle.
      Always interesting to watch your troubleshooting videos!👍

    Man, we had the most rediculously tough harnesses for military electronics. I wish manufacturers used the tougher wire insulation. And we used to use a lot of cabling with multiple wires in the same flat molded cable...and some were twisted for noise immunity. That stuff was a bear to strip, but it really lasted.

    On the MX magnums a quirky things can happen if the w wire on the alternator isn't giving the right reading for engine rpm. The PTO will run 6 seconds and quit. It happened to me when I didn't have the right wire on the W terminal. The dealer had it happened when the wrong size alternator pulley was used and they had get the original pulley back on.

    Nice work going through the lengthy process of elimination. I'll bet most non-mechanic people have no idea how much effort and time it takes to figure out mechanical problems in modern machinery. Great effort and work on determining the issue with this.

  • @d6c10k4

    You found the problem....I have seen on MX tractors that have a problem with the PTO kicking off that it's sometimes related to the alternator belt. Apparently it compares alternator speed and PTO speed and shuts off the PTO if it sees a difference. If the belt slips it causes the error. Not a great design.

    When it comes to ohm testing and electrical diagnostic there is always a range provided. When it pertains to solenoids the resistance changes with temperature. It is very important to test your leads before every by touching them together and verify that they have 0 ohms or as close to 0 ohms as possible. I can't even count how many times I have been asked to help troubleshoot electrial problems and when I test the persons leads they have 4-20 ohms of resistance and everything they have previously tested must be tested again. When it comes to coils and solenoids I have a personal rule to replace the part if it varies by 5% more than the stated specification.
    Another common thing I see when it comes to electrical diagnostics is people not understanding how to properly set or use their multimeter. People get confused with range settings on meters without auto ranging or people get confused when the meter changes range from ohms to kiloohms, they do not understand that 5k ohms and 5000 ohms is the same thing.
    Harbor Freight has an optical tachometer that works pretty good.

    • @KStewart-th4sk
      @KStewart-th4sk Před 2 měsíci

      It's hard to believe that there are those who don't know 5k ohms and 5000 ohms are the same thing! But there are a lot of things that don't surprise me these days where schools are more concerned teaching about gender issues than teaching kids what they should be taught Math, English, Science, etc. Well i suppose it will make the politically correct go insane with me saying English but.....

To all the keyboard experts out there that have never done any wrenching but jump at any chance to criticize people...JUST TIGHTEN THE DAMN THING UP!!! If you don't know what tight is and what loose is you don't have enough experience. If I am tightening up rod bolts or main bolts and have a torque wrench handy, I will use it. For some stupid plug or bolt or whatever, Just Tighten It Up!!

    💯 ya need to get an oscilloscope. Your sharp enough to pick it up fast. Ohm test is just one way to test something. That is a 2 wire ac sensor. They can loose their amplitude of the output. With a scope you can get a waveform and especially if you have another machine to pull known good waveform from it's easy to test without going through that flow chart. Those flow charts suck and I mean for automobiles hardly ever are they right

    So, a bad PTO module makes the tractor unable to move. Can it be unplugged so at least the farmer could use the tractor on non-PTO operated equipment? If not, that's absolute bullshit. These things have gotten overly complicated. At one time tractors had all gear driven PTO's and probably just a selector for 540 and 1000 RPM. Our old tractors back on the farm only had single speed PTO's. More than half a century ago!
