    On this episode we try to adjust the ride on the Suburban to help soften the front end up. We thought we made a mistake on installation so we tore into it to see what the issue was.

    Just installed this kit in my 94 K1500. TIP....before I removed the torsion key adjusting bolt I took a measurement of how long the bolt was sticking out from the adjustment block. When I reinstalled the new key and block, I set the bolt back to the original measurement. After a test drive I didn’t like the front end bouncing around so much. I then backed the adjusting bolt one turn, rides perfect now. No guesswork involved.

      I’ve done that in the past on a couple of trucks when I installed 6” lifts but the ride stayed the same on those because the torsion bars still had stock keys. On this one I used the green paint to show where it was originally. Like you, I didn’t like the ride so I turned them down further. I’m really glad that you got the Torch off Road kit! Are you considering any other upgrades? Thanks for watching!!

    I just cranked my factory keys down and installed new shocks and shock extenders. Mine is level and rides good. I actually still have room to tighten my keys a little more. I keep seeing people replace the keys to level them but I have leveled my last 3 trucks and not replaced the first key to do so. The one I have now is a 2500HD and the last 2 were K1500s.

    As a fellow Suburban owner, I have two suggestions born of experience: 1.) Check out fellow CZcamsr " 1 Road". He is just like you, really smart, honest, and makes great Suburban CZcamss,
    2.) As much as I am a "buy American" guy, there are times when other countries just make better products and competitive prices so I use Bilsteins shocks on almost everything I own. I replaced my factory shocks on my '96 Suburban with the Bilsteins recommended for my truck on their website and it rides and handles better than when it was brand new. Also, Bilstein guarantees their shocks (if you use the ones recommended for your truck) for life.

    • @HartRockGarage
      @HartRockGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      Good to know. Thank you for hat information. I may do some more upgrades on the suburban in the near future so I’ll keep Bilstein in mind. I’ve never used their product but have never heard anything bad about them.

      @jeremycribb4696 Před rokem

      I am amazed with bilstein shocks, I had a 94 truck with the z71 option that had them. They had 280k on them, so I spent the 300 on a new set. I figured if they last that long why not buy more.

  • @headstash1
    @headstash1 Před 2 lety +2

    Shock extensions or longer shocks and ball joint spacers will go a long way to soften your ride. You can diy ball joint spacers out of the old torsion keys if you can cut and drill metal. The spacers you buy are 1" the keys cut down come out to 1&1/16"

    • @HartRockGarage
      @HartRockGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      Well first off thank you very much for watching! I greatly appreciate it. On your suburban, I have 235,000 miles on mine. So if yours is anything like mine you’ll need some front end work. All of those from 88-98 are notorious for that. On the lift, it’s an easy instal, toughest part is getting the torsions slide forward as you saw in my video. 218,000 miles doesn’t worry me a bit on these trucks, just always have to keep the steering in mind. The torsion key will stiffen it up so if you go with it I recommend longer shocks from Rough country which can be bought also on torch off roads website. It’s a good look and it’s a great deal price wise. I’d just keep in mind the maintenance a truck that old may need, but the lift won’t change that. If it’s worn out you would need to change those things anyway. If you do decide to purchase the lift and shocks. Use my Promo code HARTROCK10 and save 10% on the order. I hope this helps out. Thank you again for watching!

    • @HartRockGarage
      @HartRockGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      I know exactly what you’re saying. Just keep in mind that anytime you modify suspension on anything the ride and steering and such are gonna act differently. But this kit is an easy install, it’s cheap and it’s a bolt on so it can always be removed. On the shocks, the front shocks are a must. I can send you the link. Rear shocks are not a necessity but they are a nice add on. I can send you the link in those as well

    I just installed the 3" TORCH OFF ROAD kit on my 99 K2500 suburban. I put the keys in same way. I painted them like you did and ran the bolts back to where they were before. Result - I got the same bouncy front end as well. I was about to remove the keys and try what you thought it was but I think I will try backing off the bolts first and see if that does the trick. That made a huge difference! Rides decent now but still rough. Planning on leaving it alone for a while and get up all the parts to do a SAS and go Dana 60 in front with leafs. Next job is the front brakes. What a crappy design they have to remove the hubs just to change rotors! Jeez! would you consider a 3 inch body lift instead?

    • @HartRockGarage
      @HartRockGarage  Před 3 lety +2

      I’ve done body lifts in the past. I really don’t care for them. You stretch any hoses, wires or linkages your vehicle has out. It exposes the frame too much and you have to buy bumper brackets to go with it in order to raise them up with the body. On some models you also have to buy steering extensions and if it’s a manual transmission the clutch has to be modified... on some models. When it comes to lifting a vehicle I prefer installing suspension rather than a body lift. Thanks for the message and I appreciate you watching!
