"We ain't in Boston anymore. You lay your hands on me again, it won't end well for you." Wow. What a crazy window into what Tommy and Joel went through during those early years.
The acting in the scene was superb.
Joel thought he was the only badass in the room until he met tommy
Tommy a bitch for that tho. Fight like a man. Don't get your cronies to fight for you.
I wish for section in pt 3 where we play as Tommy as a hunter and maybe a firefly, but mainly his hunter days. I wanna see how he was, what he did, what it takes to survive, and to see the worst of Joel and Tommy.
Am I the only one that thinks that one of them would have died in that room if that alarm hadn't gone off?
I love that even after Joel telling Ellie that he and tommy fell out tommy right away hugs him. You can imagine he was pissed at joel but you can’t turn your back on the only family you got.
Sometimes, time is all that's needed to heal old wounds.
Time heals everything and helps you remember the good things that people did not just the fresh and bad
@@Razi_ftw most times, some stuff time cant heal unfortunately
I also love that even after they had their falling out and before they reunited, Tommy told Marlene she could count on Joel if she needed something done. Tommy never gave up on his big bro.
We got a bunch of philosophers in these replies “time heals all wounds, except when it can’t”
Tommy“You got old”
Joel”easy it’s gonna happen to you too”
I’m crying…
My brother are 15 and almost 17 yrs younger I can't wait to tell them how to be east, it's gonna happen to u as well

When Joel says "Tommy I need this" it feels almost like a veiled way of saying "Don't make me have to go through losing my daughter again". He didn't want to admit it to himself yet but he was growing attached to Ellie and she was starting to become a surrogate daughter to him. All it took was her confirming she feels the same way, which she does when she runs away, and that basically finalized the relationship.
actually to this point Joel still sees ellie as cargo.
Its more Tess driven than Ellie driven.
Things totally change after Joel gets impaled and Ellie takes care of him.
After that point its obvius that Joel gets his human side again and sees her as actual family.
You're on the money there, cuz after the attack on the settlement when joel immediately and visibly worried over ellie. Tommy was like "awww shit. He really is getting too attached to her... he won't be able to let her go at this rate."
@@teodorospina8408 I’m pretty sure things changed when Joel decided to take Ellie from Tommy, who he sent with him so that he wouldn’t have to experience being responsible for another kid’s death, which Ellie was definitely a little on the money on in her argument.
@@Im.Smaher thats how the TV series with todays episode wanted to put it which Is okay, but in the game joel wants total emotional detachment from Ellie so he can fulfill tess last wish and move on, which he cant After Ellie opens up with him
You’re right, but that’s not what finalized the dynamic between them. I like to believe ellie saving Joel’s life after the university is what finalizes it, When Joel wakes up in Colorado and realizes he’s been nursed back to a healthy state again. And he goes looking for Ellie and destroys a whole group just to find her
You know what i just noticed? In this game, for the most part, the cutscenes transition into gameplay, like god of war. I thought it was a nice touch
Still cuts tho, god of war was buttery smooth
@@mariomorgan6083 yeah god of war was a single take which i liked. In this game there are cuts to give it a more cinematic feel
In part 2 it's also like that
Definitely
That happens in Part 2, believe or not.
Damm the dialogue between Joel and Tommy is quite well written and the delivery is even better. Thought flaws associated with the storytelling would become more noticeable with the years but they aren't even there to begin with, it truly is a great game

1:26 that’s guitar strum hits the feels man😭😭
Love how insanely stripped down the soundtrack is for the most part
The track that plays in this scene is called 'Returning' and it truly is one of the best in the soundtrack
That's the great part about this soundtrack. The music doesn't need to be complex. The musical ideas are so simple, the instrument choices are generic. And it's still beautiful.
We need a prequel of tommy and Joel in those 20 years of being a hunter and a survivor
good idea. like ellie's prequel.
I wanna see what Tommy's nightmares were made of. 😬
That wouldn't gonna happened because They are forcing you with FEMINIST'S SHITTY AGENDA.

Kotaku, SJW and bunch of Twitter puritan are going to cry to put down the game's score.
There should be one about Winston from left behind dlc
This should’ve been a segment in TLOU2 or a DLC but it’s seeming like radio silence
I like how Tommy initially questions Joel about Ellie's inmunity only to bite in 5 seconds later
It gives you an insight on how much he trusts his brother and how well he knows him

@@YodaSama0 TLOU2 is the perfect sequel to what the TLOU1 sets ups I bet you think it’s bad just because Joel dies
I would love to see a prequel game or DLC about Joel's time during that 20 year span after Sarah died but before he met Ellie.
Picks up literally when Sarah died. I want to see how they handle the aftermath of it all.
That’s character regression. You’ll see Joel become cold and rough. It’ll be depressing
Honestly that's what I expected the TV show to be about, sad to see them just try to recreate the game's story instead of doing that
@@8440kit’s not really character regression because at that point in time his character hadn’t developed yet
@@kmv984 agreed ! Development isn’t always positive Joel’s story begins with him being jaded because of what he went through from Sarah to the present , there’s certainly
Some story there plus he’s just a better protagonist to
Play as than Ellie
“you SURVIVE because of me” wish they put that line in the show
“It wasn’t worth it.”
Like BRO! How you gonna leave out the most impactful lines in the cutscene
@@TheBronzeGamer14 They left those lines out because that wasn't the relationship TV Joel and Tommy had. In the game, they're way more adversarial since Joel's a little more on the selfish side on the surface. Whereas in the show, Joel is a touch more broken and fully aware of his flaws, which he made clear during his breakdown scene with Tommy.
8:38
i like the way he says "pissy little brother" xD
I’m kinda salty they didn’t add the Sarah photo in the show
The game is way better than the show imo
@@wasimali9207 I agree, I thought the show did a mostly good job of adapting the games narrative for an audience that will never play a video game but The Last Of Us is a story best told through the video game form and the show never came close to the highs of the game.
The twenty years they lived during the demise of humanity would make a great series of games and adaptations...seeing them on both sides of an ambush trying to survive
I totally wanna see the worst of Joel, Tommy, and maybe Tess and to see why that time gave Tommy ptsd.
@@thepeskyone How low you think Joel went?
Tommy's lines here make Joel sound really really bad.
We're probably talkin about killing and eating children.
Maybe at some point Joel and Tommy's group ran out of food and Joel starting killing and eating their own members and their kids as well.
Holy cow lol.....Joel must be a complete monster
@thereeldeal7858 I don't think he stooped that low to cannibalize. Sure he most likely robbed families with or without children, but we'd probably see cannabailism when he is traveling with Ellie either game or hbo. Tess probably also wouldn't fuck with him

Lol, our boy Joel is having panic attacks in the HBO series.
Back at the beginning of The last of us part 1, Joel takes anxiety pills so It would make sense for him to have panic attacks.
And? I thought it was a great addition
@@jordantalbot6344such a disgraceful thing
I can't watch the show but I respect they tried
@@Incogfilo They did more then try. It was a fantastic adaptation of the game. Taking the game story and adapting it to a new medium and audience. I love both and it's a shame people seem to try and argue between the two or think one sucks or is a failure. Neither are.
All of this makes me wonder how differently things might have turned out if Tommy was the one to escort Ellie to the Fireflies. How he and Ellie would have interacted. Obviously, she developed an unexpected bond with Joel, even though they weren't close to begin with. But the course of the game would have definitely changed if Tommy and Ellie continued the journey.
Would love if they did a game about 8:23 with joel and tommy.

Seeing the difference in their appearance, I would say Tommy is considerably younger than Joel, like by about 12 years or so. What do you think?
12 years is a bit of a stretch. I'd say at most, a good 5 years.
@@dremichael9752 - Except Joel looks so much older than Tommy. Gray hair, wrinkles, and Tommy seems to have none of those things.
Both lived a stressful life, simply by living in that type of world alone, nevermind their years as hunters, and both suffer from PTSD.
@thecowboy9698 Joel being about 12 years older than Tommy, would make Tommy a teenager at the start of the game, but he definitely didn't look that young. He seemed to be in his mid 20s at the start.
@@kouroshrm7 - Well Joel is supposed to be thirty-two in the game at the time of the outbreak. So even if he was 12 years older than Tommy, Tommy would still be 20 years old, and to be honest when seeing him at the beginning of the game, he honestly looked a man between 20 and 23 years old, and by the time when Joel and Tommy reunite, Tommy doesn't look that much older than a man of 40 - hardly has any gray nor wrinkles - so I think at least as far as the game is concerned, Tommy is supposed to be substantially younger than Joel.
Probably like 4 or 5 years at most. Joel was 32 in the beginning of TLOU so that would make Tommy in his late twenties at that same time.
Hmm, there is some inconsistency regarding Tommy's looks here. In Tlou2 opening scene where Joel retell firefly massacre story to him, Tommy already has grey hair and looks almost as old as 2037 Tommy despite that scene took place like 6 months after the cutscene in this video, while Tommy looks way younger here and not grey hair
Oh well
no it didnt ellie was 13 here, joel told tommy in last of us 2 when ellie was 19 years old
@@friskydingooo7992 no ellie was 13 or 14 when Joel told Tommy what happened
@@friskydingooo7992 ellie was 13 in left behind, 14 in the beginning of the Last of us and near 15 at the end. 16 year old ellie was from the museum flashback. I'm guessing Ellie in the guitar scene at the beginning of TLOU2 was around 16 years old, right before the museum flashback, as learning guitar was mentioned in it.
@Star-Universe-Requiem I think that the Tommy flashback with the music store was 17 year old Ellie, and in the 'finding out' scene in Salt Lake City she was 18 years old.

If we ever get a TLOU prequel about Joel and Tommy in their earlier years as hunters, who would you like to play as, Joel or Tommy?
1:20
Hi! You found out a comment that not bitch out about the series and the videogame! You are lucky
Lmao people saying the show is better haven’t played the game or were too dumb to understand what was happening without explanations like the show is doing. Joel was stressed the whole time about reuniting with his brother since he wasn’t sure how it would go. Would Tommy tell him to get tf out or would he welcome him after all these years? He wasn’t expecting Tommy to be there and to react this way but it was one of Joel’s happiest day. Knowing his brother forgave him for how they parted ways and welcomed him took away a lot of his stress. At least Maria isn’t a bitch in the game. She knows about what Joel and Tommy did before but she also understood what world they lived in. At the time they didn’t know better, they thought it was the only way to survive. Don’t ever say the show did it better, they just did it differently. They said it in the HBO’s podcast. These characters are not OUR Joel and Ellie, it’s just another dimension where they have the same plot but a different adventure.
I love how when they’re alone, the Texas roots acts up
The fight between Joel and Tommy was handled much better in the game than the show
