    Thanks for the info, I was making plans to trade in my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee this weekend . I bought it new with only 43 miles now it has 29k miles. It’s left me stranded three times & each time was at a stop light. The dealership could never figure it out - I’m convinced this is the problem. I’m Unplugging the battery sensor to disable the start/stop feature to see my results. I’ll give it another chance but If this doesn’t work I’m going back to Toyota.

    I really, really dislike this stop/start feature. In fact I hate it. I wish Jeep would make a SW patch where one can permenantly disable this feature. Other than this feature, one that I truly loathe, I love my Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Did I mention I completely detest this stop/start feature?

      I think there should be a timer option. If you're sitting for more than 5 seconds then it powers down. It' s annoying in stop and go traffic. I ended up switching it off a lot of times

    So, this feature is supposed to reduce fuel consumption? Did anyone else catch at around 2:30 where it said a "low fuel level can inhibit the start/stop feature from working?". Ummmm... What?

    My 2019 Jeep Cherokee start/stop worked great for the first 2 1/2 years. Now, it says "Charging, not Ready".
    The dealership said no codes. They charged the battery and it worked for a short while. Now, it is past the 3 year warranty and it says "Charging, not ready".
    Do I need a new battery?

    THIS FEATURE IS SUCH A WASTE OF TIME. IT'S VERY ANNOYING AND SOMEWHAT DANGEROUS WHEN YOUR TRYING TO PULL OUT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND YOU GET A SLIGHT HESITATION WAITING FOR THE ENGINE TO RESTART. IT ALSO WORKS RANDOMLY SO WHAT'S THE POINT ? IT SHOULD NOT COME ON AUTOMATICALLY EVERY TIME YOU START THE CAR. YOU SHOULD HAVE TO TURN IT ON.

    • @boriel91
      @boriel91 Před 8 lety +1

      i always turn it off during the week, thats when i go to work and i know there is gonna be traffic, and i dont want the car to stop everytime i hit the brake.
      but other then that its a nice feature to have.

    I've bought the 2016 latitute and it's had nothing but problems. It's at the dealer right now and they can't figure out what the problem is. The oil was burning out of the pan, transmission software went bad......Electronics going nuts.......how could a well respected car company build something like this????????

  • @oldrudedog
    @oldrudedog Před 6 lety +3

    I have it on my 2017 Cherokee and it is worthless. I get better mileage with it off. It takes more fuel to restart the engine than what you save by having it off.

  • @williamverno615
    @williamverno615 Před 7 lety +1

    How do you back up? You stop, the engine shuts down, you throw it in reverse ...... Then what? I don't have ess, just wondering how the veh reacts with that input.

    I own a 2016 Cherokee Limited, and also find this feature to be annoying and not ready for prime time use. I commented in Jeeps user forum that this feature may lead to some serious accidents. Unfamiliar drivers may not be aware of this feature which may present high risks (especially when these vehicle become second hand). The dealership I purchased made very little attention to this feature (which suggest that they know this may not be a good selling point). If this feature becomes standard on american vehicles, I hope the implementation has a better approach than Jeep. Since it is not a 'Normal Driving Feature' for US cars or trucks to shut down automatically when stopped (this feature should have been implemented with the feature in the OFF position at startup (and let the driver select ON if they prefer it). A novel feature, but IMHO poorly implemented.

  • @Daveinet

    Almost caused an ACCIDENT! I went to pull out in traffic right at the point the engine shut off. When it started, it bogged. So not only did I have the delay of the engine shutting off, but also had the delay of the bog. Of course the vehicle rolled into traffic. The cross traffic had to hit the brakes to avoid hitting me. Thanks Jeep, how long before you kill somebody.

    Jeep complete fucked this up, the engine stops too quickly. This is a very stupid system, pull into a parking space, stop and try to turn the vehicle off. At least the last software upgrade my Cherokee doesn't roll back on a hill.

  • @Commander_HW

    it's quit useful in big city like Miami, we have traffic everywhere anytime, so it saves gas. If u feel like the stop will only last a few sec then u can step on the brake lightly(no with full weight) then the Stop/start will not kicks in, the engine will stay running.

    The ESS is not ready for prime-time use, no matter how gently, firmly or whatever others suggest to do to prevent it from activating. It is very dangerous to allow the Jeep to remain in Default "ESS On" while waiting in a busy intersection making a yielded left turn. parking, etc. I will buy an aftermarket module "Smart Stop-Start" for $125 very soon. Right now I manually turn off the ESS at every drive. This automatic default of allowing it to be activated at every start is going to cause an accident, I'm convinced of it.

      I was told that disconnecting the open hood sensor, would stop start stop from automatically starting. I was also told that doing that would disable remote start. I bent the sensor bracket down, so it would not make contact with the hood, but didn't disconnect it. Works great, except for a warning light that has come on a few times. Still, a win, as far as I'm concerned. No start stop, and I still have my remote start.

    in apps under settings a person can adjust the amount of time before this feature is activated,
    zero seconds, 45 seconds, 5 minutes and 10 minutes, you may want to check this setting and adjust as necessary!!!!

      Mike Clarke , in the Compass, it has a seco dary small battery just beside the main one . Got it last month and had already been 3 times to the vendors garage has I got ESS desactivate (which is not bad...) but the engine light is on!(?). They still do not know how to solve it...

    Honestly I think alot of cons should not be allowed to talk to people around here! They are really dangerous for machanics and home life! Disconnecting the auto start stop dosen't interfear with other vehical features! It turns on a yellow light to look down on within your vehical and makes the starter act as it should! Only going on when you turn on the vehical and shut it off when you decide! Have a nice day

      Yes and it costs about $600 for the dealer to put a new one on. Their engineers state that the starter will work 100,00 starts and I find that unbelievable.
