    Replaced my batteries tonight with Duralasts on a 2019 GC Trailhawk. Two pieces of advice: buy DEEP socket 10/13mm sockets. And go for the H6 vs the H7 (h7 will NOT fit as mentioned in one of the comments)
    Bracket nuts are locktited in and theres a long screw in the middle. If you have the deep sockets itll take a good 5 minutes to get those bad boys out. Without the deep sockets - good luck.
    All in all. Took me about 15 minutes total to replace both batteries. Everything works.
    Also, i didnt use a trickle charger and didnt lose any of my settings.

    I just bought a used 2017 Jeep GC yesterday. It was an off lease vehicle with only 12,000 miles. Car looks to be in mint condition. While learning about the message center I observed that the start/stop battery was not charging and started doing my home work. Your video most likely confirms the 3-4 year old battery is faulty. I have a 90 day warranty and will be making a call. Thanks for the knowledge ! I am a car guy and could do it myself, but I paid top dollar and will let them take care of it.

      @@robertsoria9293 The auxiliary battery for the stop start is under the front passenger seat. I haven't replaced it yet, although it most likely needs to be. The car needs to be driven for an extended period of time to get it charged up, then the start/stop works. My son only drives the car for short distances to school and that is why the battery won't hold a charge. Car is almost 6 years old with only 19,000 miles and will need both batteries replaced in the spring.

      these AUX batteries that are used for start/stop are crap and usually need to be replaced every 3 or so years. had to replace the one in my 2016 Grand Cherokee after 2 years. Now i have to replace the one in my 2019 Grand Cherokee after 3 years. seems to be a common issue according to the jeep forums. Maybe the Michigan winters have something to do with it... but others say that if you dont drive every day for at least 30 minutes you should keep it on a trickle charger... sorry, i dont got time for all that.

    Just performed a main battery R/R (2014 NON EAS) and a minor twist.
    Reading the step about the 17 minutes before engine/control module memory loss I loosened and removed the hold down plate first then disconnected the NEG/POS terminals. That keeps a few more minutes on the “play clock” so to speak .
    Also if having trouble with the forward access cover loving clip run the seat Full AFT and UP ( before disconnecting terminals of
    Course). Slide the forward locking tab up and release. Once that step is done mode the seat full forward and up for the rest of the battery removal procedure.
    Sounds like the Access cover maybe slightly longer on ESS models or maybe the AUX battery slides back under the cover a bit more. I haven’t checked and hope not to have to find out anytime soon.

I had lots of sparks so took off charger. Good detailed instructions here. Note that you MUST have a 13mm deep well socket. Without trickle charger I had to reset nothing. Even my Sirius radio remembered its presets. So skip the trickle charge and save some excitement.

    Great video. I will add once the power is reconnected it will likely trigger the SGM (security gateway monitor) in the vehicle thus losing many functions like backup camera, temperature controls, passenger heated seats, and Uconnect will lose half the features. I’m called Uconnect, they were clueless. The solution is patience. Everything came back within a few hours good as it was. Might take longer for yours, but from what I’ve researched it’s extremely common.

    ATTENTION: When removing the smaller battery tray……the two 13mm nuts to be removed will need a long extension ( a 6” or 10” will suffice) along with a deep 13mm socket to remove them……otherwise you will have little to no room to turn the ratchet for their removal……the small battery hold down nut will require a longer extension as well as a 10mm deep socket for it’s removal…..you may need to trim the vent tube an inch +/- while attaching it to the big battery as my new replacement battery’s vent hole was about an inch shorter then the oem battery vent hole location……hope this helps with anyone’s R & R in the future……all in all this took about 30 +/-minutes to do.

    While this is a very well thought out and executed tutorial, it should be noted that the 10mm socket to remove the auxiliary battery tie down at approximately 2:06 and the 13 mm socket to remove the fasteners of the auxiliary battery tray both should be a deep socket - the stud extends too far to engage a regular socket. One other note regarding the auxiliary battery - not all replacements come with the terminal studs and it may be necessary to remove the studs from the old auxiliary battery. Avoid the temptation of using a pair of vise grips or pliers which will damage the stud and pick up an E-5 External star or reverse torex socket - it makes stud removal a snap.

    I had an issue with what I thought was a battery. I replaced both batteries 230$+ 120$ then the problem still exists... I then found out it was an electrical fuse issue. Only to for the problem to continue. Turns out it was the transmission control module. Mind you I only had this vehicle for 3 months. .....

      Most likely, the Jeep won't tell you. Some common signs that the battery would be going bad is if it has dim headlights, electrical problems, issues starting the car, corrosion, a warped battery case, or a rotten egg smell. You can check it using a multimeter, or you can go to an auto shop to get a more accurate load test done.

      @Japplesnap Před 5 měsíci

      That's not a great idea. If you have a dead or failing auxiliary battery and it's still connected, it will take power from the main battery, eventually causing it to die sooner. If you really don't want to replace the auxiliary battery, make sure to disconnect it to prevent it from killing the main battery. Another thing to consider is that these vehicles use both batteries together during cold starts. So if you don't have both the n good working condition, you won't have full amperage available if you needed it, such as a really cold winter morning.
