      I agree !!!! the start-stop button was invented for one reason not to save gas but to burn gas. With gas on the rise across the United States people are doing less traveling basically go to work , home that's it .here's proof did you ever notice gas goes up in the summer when people do the most traveling , and doing winter months gas is low . and only in warm States gas is $4 and better year round .So the government partnered up with car manufacturers to find out how to get consumers to go back to the pump and this is what they came up with start stop they tell everybody is to save gas but how when you need gas to turn the car on every start stop it's fuel injection fuel is sent the motor on every start to crank the motor .. pass the word

I hit the gas because we are now sitting perpendicular to oncoming traffic, but no response because the car shut off. Hard to tell time but it took a second for the engine to come back on and by that time people in oncoming traffic were slamming on their brakes.

I know that the s/s feature is unavailable because probably the auxiliary battery is dead. 2017 still original main and auxiliary battery.. @kdkarr Před 5 lety +1

    Thanks for posting. I'm wondering if you could put a small resistor on between the battery and the connector. This would report a lower voltage from the battery. Maybe the computer would think there is demand for the engine to be run. That could mean no light on the dash as well. I realize this would require a little more than simply disconnecting a cable.

    • @BrandonHaneline
      @BrandonHaneline  Před 5 lety

    • @robbob1693

      @@BrandonHaneline Do not do that, the EMU reads the SOC of the battery via this sensor, it needs this information to ensure there is room within the battery for any energy regeneration, by inserting a resister in the data line to the sensor the EMU may be fooled into thinking there is room in the battery for the high voltage regeneration (up to 16volts) when there is not, this will destroy the battery. The whole idea is to always have around 20/25% room within the battery for regeneration to work efficiently, it`s all bulls**t really and the battery will die if not fully recharged on a regular basis, short journeys wont do that, DO NOT FOOL with system just disconnect the sensor and do nothing else.

  • @Callum12able
    @Callum12able Před 4 lety

    Just a thought....
    A two wire system. I wonder if the ecu is just looking for a change of resistance from this device fitted to battery wire? If so disconnect and fit a resistor of value across the across the wires so that fools the car into thinking that stop start shouldn't be allowed. Therefore no error on dash ? Trick is working out what resistance would trigger this

      You should have monitored the charge rate to check before plugging sensor back in, an Ebay voltage monitor that plugs into the cig socket cost around £4.50, the charging voltage with sensor disconnected on my Merc`s is from 13.8 volts float to 14.4 volts charge, this voltage will fully charge an AGM battery.

But I bet the plug was just unplugged but I didn't check cause I didn't know at the time. But if that's the case this might cause the same symptom of the engine trying to shut off for a split sec then displaying the A symbol saying start stop system not ready battery charging service stop start. But I didn't like how the car dealt lime it was going to shut off.

    ANSWER to HOW TO GET THE CLIP OFF: On my 2016 75th Ann. GC, I had to insert a very narrow 1/16 of an inch diameter flat blade screwdriver along the right side of that clip....and the clip is the part at the END of that entire black unit that connects to the battery post. So make sure you insert it in the clip itself and on the right side !!! After I slide it along the clip and left it there, I just pulled the clip off with 2 fingers. Hope this helps because I didn't see this answer anywhere else..lol

    Thank you gentleman. I have a Darngo 2020 Standard and I am very tired of this . ! It is incomprehensible that a well-established company would do this work. Whenever I want to move the gear stick to the P position, the engine shuts down and then starts every time I start the engine unless I disable the system every time. I'm surprised that Doug doesn't have to be this way. The local company agent does not know how to solve the problem because he does not know what the problem is. I'm from saudi arabia

  • @idigbebop
    @idigbebop Před 4 lety +1

    Doing this will mess up the ECM batt voltage monitoring and micro charging variable output of your alternator voltage regulator. The digital regulator, with data per the ECM, is pulsing variable charge voltage based on the resistance, temperature and state of charge as your battery discharges ( usage, temp) and age. Suggest a better alternative is to jumper the Auto-Stop dash switch connector. Find a wire diagram and locate the switch button active circuit and the ground wire color code pinned to the connector. Make a simple jumper, insert to those two wires and you’ll disable this function without anomaly dash lights or charging issues. The ECM sees the button as pressed or activated=null. As always, some dissemble and reassembling is required. Or just remember to press the stupid button after startup. ;-)

It seems like all Chrysler/JEEP has to do is program it in with all our other memory settings that remember our settings like A/C, seat, and mirrors. Problem solved. But unfortunately, when I start my jeep back up, the buttons go back to default.

      Basically the intelligent battery Sensor monitors the amperage being used during a stop start event. So if it cannot measure the drawl that the vehicle is using then The stop start feature is disabled. I’m sure there are many different hacks to disable stop start. They all will end up with the same message on the cluster so disconnecting the intelligent battery Sensor seems to be the easiest for me

    I'm pretty sure the original concept of the start stop (ESS) feature was to cut emissions for fleet vehicles. IMO the amount of fuel it saves isn't worth the amount of engine and starter wear on your vehicle.

  • @stephencannon3140
    @stephencannon3140 Před 4 lety

    My biggest problem with ESS is not so
    Much the fuel saving function but the extra wear/tear/cycles on the starter during re start and the mind conditioning of thinking the vehicle stalled. Also what if system fails when you really need it as in say emergency acceleration. I discounted the remote start disconnect plan for the ESS fault message and hadn’t even thought of the remote start and hood ajar Warning. ESS fault is a nuisance message but hold ajar is a safety related warning. If for some reason you accidentally leave hood ajar it could actually fly open and driver will think it was related to the remote switch being.unplugged Not a smart move and definitely won’t be done with my vehicle.

  • @darin0586
    @darin0586 Před 4 lety

    Now If we had replacement module that would simulate the current reading that satisfies the ESS. Then the ESS warning light wouldn't show.

      If one is going to touch things on a car, they should at least have the understanding of how all car harnesses have some sort of locking mechanism and to know ahead that you have to do something.
      Blindly reaching under there I could easily feel the squeeze mechanism. Took me 3 sec to notice and unplug.
      If you're jamming flatheads into harnesses, you're in over your head.

    Great work around for the #2 most annoying thing on the Grand Cherokee. If you can help me solve #1, you'd be my hero. Jeep has an overlay limitation to Carplay when the vehicle is in motion. You can't pick any artist or song in music app and you can't type in an address in Maps. I find this less safe than other installations of Carplay in other manufacturers because it makes you use your phone. Any sensors we can disable to trick Carplay into thinking you aren't in motion?

    • @FluffingForbin
      @FluffingForbin Před 6 lety +1

      I have iPhone 8 Plus but model of iPhone shouldn't matter. It's an overlay that Jeep adds to their Carplay instance. For example, VW and Audi do not restrict while vehicle is in motion. Yes, I realize you can do "hey Siri" but oftentimes you can't remember exactly what music you have on your phone and it's nice to be able to browse through. Also, Siri isn't as good as Google voice in terms of transcribing addresses, etc.
