One great big advantage is the battery tends to last much longer than if under the hood. Mine is the original battery on a 2014 WK2 Limited which is being replaced to avoid any issues. No problems with it but it is seven years old. When under the hood, most batteries only last about four years. I live in the very hot SW so heat is very hard on batteries.

@@BJ-bd5fc It gets hot where I live. Las Cruces, NM isn't as hot as Phoenix but it does have its share of over 100° weeks. From what little I've read, extreme hot or cold is not good for batteries. Of course, some are better than others. The battery for my wife's Jeep is an AGM which is a bit more reliable than the normal lead-acid battery you'll find in many cars or trucks. Since 2000 we've owned two vehicles which have the battery located under the seat and both have lasted about seven years.

My wife's 2012 just failed to start for the first time, and it's on it's original battery. I only have one vehicle that has had a battery last that long, and it's my old Ford work truck. Being pre-FI, it is a no frills work vehicle that has next to no extra draws on it once running, lol.

I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 with a 3.6L V6. This car came with the 94R battery and the battery clamp down, however, all replacement AGM batteries for this vehicle calls for the 49 series which is what I bought. Not sure if this is an aftermarket change or a mistake but I can't for the life of me find a replacement battery clamp down that will fit from mopar since the 49 is so much larger... so I had to cut down the original. 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, Red Vapor Edition. 67k. Replaced OEM Factory battery (7yrs on 1 battery, 👍🏼)
Just finished installation, took about 20mins because I’m 6’4” and didn’t fold into the backseat very well to get UNDER the passenger seat.
Followed the Professor’s instructions to a T. However, replacing the neg terminal was tricky bc I couldn’t get it tight enough to keep in place. Had to spread open the clamp just a bit so it would seat all the way down.
Battery: Duralast Platinum H7 AGM (Autozone, 3-yr warranty, $229.99)
Tools: what the Professor used except the 13mm socket I have wasn’t deep enough bc the bolt was too long so left the plate in and shimmied the battery underneath it.
Memory Saver: OLLGEN 3M/10ft OBD II Vehicle ECU Emergency Power Supply Cable Memory Saver with Alligator Clip-On 12V Car Battery. Don’t forget to get this-I’d never heard of one before and actually, I didn’t even know where the battery was located lol.

@@TheBatteryShop Yes, thank you. I found the ""big Battery" under the passenger seat. This other battery may, or may not, be in my Jeep but I'm guessing that they're talking about some capacitor-like starter system under the hood. It doesn't matter because I found that the issue was that I wasn't driving the jeep far enough for the battery to recharge. I would start the engine, drive 1.3 miles, and turn off the engine. I'd go inside, buy the groceries and do it all again to go home.
I did that week after week until I started to notice a little starting anomaly, (I'd push the starting button and it would "click" and then shutdown. I'd push it again, and it would start). Finally, I was no longer able to start it because the battery didn't have the minimum voltage to turn the engine over.
The Jeep is a 2016 GC with the original battery and 13.5K miles. All I needed to do is let it idle for the duration of my grocery shopping, (about 15 minutes), and it would be OK.

If you are going to put use jumper battery as a memory saver it would be good to use a plastic bag or glove over the positive wire while it is disconnected, as it should be live. Be careful with tools when reconnecting the positive so you don't ground the tool. If you are not using a memory saver, then the system is dead so no issues, just remember to attach the negative lead least.

I've got a 2012 with the 5.7L HEMI, I can safely say there is no room left over when that engine is stuffed in. My biggest gripe is that they didn't put the battery compartment a foot further back where the rear passenger footwell is. GM did that on the Traverse/Enclave and it was much easier to access on my dad's car.

The location is for two reasons-- weight distribution and battery life. These special batteries have cranking power but also continuously power all of the electronic features on the jeep. Their life is extended if they are not exposed to temperature extremes under the hood.

We just got back from a 3680 mile vacation trip with our 2011 Jeep GC WK2. The battery is 11 years old and did fine. But when we got back, I had the battery load tested the the voltage was fine but the SOH was only 51%. Amazing we had no issues. I hope I can lift the battery out as even some of the Auto Battery shops that sell and install said this procedure needs to be done at the Dealership. I ask WHY and they said too much liability to R & R the battery from inside the vehicle. Really?
