  • Having recently bought a new 2018 BMW M140i Shadow Edition, I thought I would put a quick video together to share the spec the car has. Due to the car being pre-registered I did not get to choose the exact specification however it came with everything that I wanted with the exception of the adaptive suspension.
    The car is crying out for an exhaust, do I go for the Remus from Motech or M Performance exhaust from BMW?!

    Great video, I am picking up my new M140i in a few days. This was also pre-registered like yours mine comes with the speed limit display added in but not the adaptive lights, front parking sensors or electric mirrors. Can't wait to pick this up now! Keep up the videos.

    Having owned versions with and without adaptive suspension, I'm with the forum majority who view the options as one of the first things to be ticked, unless you wanted to go down the road of aftermarket suspension. It probably doesn't add a lot to handling, but the ride is far better, in all modes and even if you don't choose to set it as firm in sports mode. (As has been already posted here, adaptive suspension isn't just a hardness setting for sports mode - it constantly monitors the ride, in whatever mode you are in). There's a big difference without it: the back end suspension in particular tends to be bouncy and feel like its bottoming out.

      @NICKFOXTV  Před 6 lety +1

      samsara it seems to be pretty conclusive it is the way to go, bit late for me though! As mentioned in another comment, I was completely unaware of it being able to monitor the ride on the fly, that’s an excellent feature!

      @samsara3694 Před 6 lety

      ah, hadn't actually picked on the fact that you didn't have it. Would have been nice but, as someone else has commented, if you've not had if before you won't be left cursing that you don't have it. Just get on and enjoy the drive!!

    I'm ordering a 125d and for me the Adaptive Suspension is a must - if you drive on crappy roads (you say that you live in the countryside) then it makes the ride so much smoother. The car gets sensors that mitigate most of the movement from bumps and small pot holes. As you're one of those people that seems they can tell a huge difference between the ZF 8 speed and the S3's dual clutch then I'm sure the suspension is something you'd probably notice and appreciate yourself. Only way to really know is to just drive one with or without. I specifically asked to test drive one with and one without and for me it was game changing... well worth the £500. But then again if you've never experienced it it's not something that you're going to miss.

    • @NICKFOXTV
      @NICKFOXTV  Před 6 lety

      I didn’t realise it also actively managed the damping whilst on the move as well. I just thought it was to stiffen up the suspension when you wanted too. It does sound like a good shout and very good value at £500! But I am stuck without now!
      As you say though, having not had it, I am likely not going to miss it. I will just have to avoid trying a car with it until it’s time to replace 😂

    Adaptive suspension is great on motorways such as the perpetually noisy M25. Adaptive cruise control is the greatest thing ever.... All in all am really happy with 125 M sport shadow. my first BM.

    • @NICKFOXTV
      @NICKFOXTV  Před 5 lety

      You have adaptive cruise control on your 125? Very jealous, that is one thing i’d love my m140 to have!

  • @ChipZilla69
    @ChipZilla69 Před 6 lety +2

    Lovely car mate. So i just came from a fully spec'd M235i to a slightly less spec'd M240 so feel i can add some insight. There is a difference with the adaptive suspension but I'm not missing it, the M sport suspension is just fine. The non electric seats are definitely lowered but i take issue with the adjustment mechanism. If you try and adjust while driving you end up all the way back almost horizontal and it's not easy to get back up as there's no wratchet system. Another major difference is there is no turbo lag in confort mode on the b58 engine but there was on the n55. The interior on on the latest models also feels a lot more premium despite being a very similar design. Finally the rear lights have been improved on the latest iteration of the two series. I hope t this helps anyone looking at these cars. You simply cannot do better for the money, they are mighty. Oh and one more thing, i would recommend opting for sensors all around, on the two series at least you can't see where the bonnet ends so i found myself being over cautiouse with the distance, maybe it's different with the one series but for the sake of a couple hundred i would do it. My advice would also be to ppf the bumper as they are prone to stone chips and ceramic coat the rest of the car. I have been quoted £1200 to get this work done which i will do having learnt my lessons owning the previous model.

    • @NICKFOXTV
      @NICKFOXTV  Před 6 lety

      ChipZilla69 thanks for sharing mate, I really do want the ppf but it’s just money I don’t have right now. I know by the time I can afford it it will be too late too!

    • @ChipZilla69
      @ChipZilla69 Před 6 lety +1

      I hear you I'm completely broke now for a while. You can pff just the bumper and lights area for around £300 and do the ceramic coating later. You won't want to pff the entire car as it would be way too expensive but the ppf will present the stone chips and the ceramic will prevent the swirls.

    Great car mate. Just one thing that everyone with the shadow editions miss and you’ve not mentioned as well is the headlights have had the front silver bit painted black. Really subtle but makes a world of a difference when you see it vs non shadow edition.

  • @thebeatonclan
    @thebeatonclan Před 5 lety +1

    Having driven both Nick, I opted for the adaptive set up on mine. I live in N Yorks and and drive on some pretty bumpy country roads. I found the passive setup too unsettled. Also when commuting in traffic I find the comfort mode soaks up the bumps really well which you don’t get with the passive suspension. Good videos btw.

    • @NICKFOXTV
      @NICKFOXTV  Před 5 lety +1

      thebeatonclan thanks mate, yeah I think if I could go back and make the decision I would opt for the adaptive for sure! I am now just trying to avoid going in one with adaptive as I dont want to feel too gutted 😂

    Great video and lovely car. Thinking about getting one as I currently have a 65 plate RS3 but the running costs are more than anticipated. Think this could be a happy medium. How are you getting on with the M140i?

    • @NICKFOXTV
      @NICKFOXTV  Před 5 lety

      ShreksterZ do love the RS3s I must say. Had the pleasure of driving the RS3, M140i and Golf R over a few days for a video shoot but it was the M140i I ultimately fell in love with. I owned the S3 at the time and again, great car but I just got a bit bored of it truth be told.
      The M140i just feels a little more involved in my opinion which is what I needed. With the auto I am also able to get 40mpg on a run which blows my mind! And I seem to average above 30 majority of the time with mixed driving.
      I would say see if you can get an extended test drive as we all want different things, but for me it is certainly a fantastic all rounder 👍🏻

    Hi! Planning to get a used 118i very soon. I was wondering apart from pointing into the curve, do the adaptive led headlights have the highbeam matrix function? Thanks!

    • @NICKFOXTV
      @NICKFOXTV  Před 3 lety

      No they don’t, they do have high beam assist however which will auto dip the beam when it notices other traffic which work reasonably well, but not as good as matrix.

      And if you want more Sound i would start with an Front+Middle Silencer Delete. BCS Midpipe.
      Its has no Drone, good Sound, not extrem Loud, Cheap.
      Dont forget to Delet the ASD Sound...

    • @DownShiftThrottle
      @DownShiftThrottle Před 6 lety +1

      NFoxtv I guess the only option would be to put on a magna ride suspension but suspect that would cost more than the £500 option from factory.
