- Hello CZcamsrs! Today I upgrade my screen on my Dell G5 laptop, hopefully you can use this video as a guide to either upgrade or replace your laptop screen!
Here are the links(affiliate) to the panel I upgraded to:
Ebay
ebay.to/36JahZe (UK)
ebay.to/3cgydV2 (US)
Amazon
amzn.to/3dgbzO2 (UK)
amzn.to/3gzL2xm (US)
The stock panel is a 60Hz panel and the new one is 120Hz. The new panel also has much better colour accuracy and brightness which should make video and photo editing that bit easier. I hope you find this video helpful if you want to replace the screen in your laptop and shows how easily it can be done. All you need is a small screw driver and a smooth pry tool, such as a blunt knife, plastic tools or a credit card! Even if you have no experience at all this upgrade is not too complex and should only take 10-20 minutes!

Wow great video you showed how easy it was and linked to amazon page for the panel that is cheaper than the one I found and it includes tools! I was thinking of paying someone else to replace the screen on my Dell G3 but seeing how easy it I feel confident I can do it and would rather not waste that money on having to pay someone.
Followed this video and installed my replacement screen successfully. Thanks so much!
Good work Chris!
Thanks a lot. I just tried the replacement on my New Dell G3 3500 I7 2060.
I have a Dell G7. I love it!
And now if you want to change the screen you know how!
Thank you so much for all the information!!!
Hi, perfect clean work that you have done! Could you tell me please about britness of this display 144 ghz. I would like to buy this kind of laptop for photography editing but have a concern in relation with not enough britness. Could you also tell me the specs of display you installed part no or so on?
Thank you in advance.
The brightness is really good actually - much brighter than before. It is a 120hz panel not 144. There are links in the description to the display I used. Hope that helps!
Hi i have fx505du serie asus tuf and hertz screen it is 60hz can i upgrade it to 120 hz if i can where can i buy it thk🙏?
Hi! can i put this display on my Dell g3 3500?
i have g5 5587 can i get higher refresh rate screen than 144hz or it only 120 hz is latest in market for g5 5587?
can i replace this DELL 5577 lcd screen with an 30 pin ips led screen of DELL G3 3590 ??
Thank you for nice and helpful video!
Is this still possible to change brightness by pressing hot keys and/or changing settings in windows with this new screen?
I also have dell g5 5587 and I think to change display, because default 60hz isnt good for me.
I am able to change the brightness with the hot keys on mine!
A couple ideas for you!
You can buy controller board for old laptop panels, so you can use it as a 2nd monitor.
Where is the pc? I thought you built one.
I love the tech stuff, but would you consider making an other channel if the content is more consistent.
Love the work, rowing and tech, both of my interest!
Think the actual monitor is done but definitely something to work on for the future!
I moved for lockdown so it is back in the other place.
I considered it but went for putting these tech related videos in a playlist on this channel. Not really much point in not leveraging the channel that has already been built. For example, you might not have seen this video without it being on this channel. What do you think?
@@CameronBuchan I think a playlist is a good idea as an other channel is more maintenance and could lead to more work, this should just stay as a hobby that you document not a separate CZcams channel. Also I think with these kind of videos, people will come across them from anywhere around the world so it is more just one video that they really care about not the channel (for me with this sort of content at least).
Also here is a link for a controller board for the old panel so that you can use it as a monitor: www.ebay.com.au/itm/HDMI-EDP-LCD-LED-controller-Board-kit-for-NV156FHM-N43-NV156FHM-N42-1920-1080-/163003924870 might want to check if the compatibility matches though, I don't have the exact model number for your screen. Otherwise look up *model number* controller board into google!
Agreed. Thank you!
I'll have a look at that! #yamsquad
Thank you for your videos. It has been very help. Are there any other screens you would recommend for dell G5 5590? (with higher resolution and better color accuracy)
It's hard to recommend others as I know this one for sure works. This model does come with a 4k display else where so I'm sure there would be the ability to get one!
@@CameronBuchan I have a g3 and i was wondering if you have had the hinge problem and have a fix for it
@@ronniewheeler7453 I haven't experienced the hinge problem so unfortunately can't help you there!
Will this work in G5 15 5590 ?
Great video. Is it possible to find a 4k compatible screen upgrades?
I'm sure there would be since 4k was an option from factory. Unfortunately I don't know what screen would work!
Please make more Cameron TechTips !!!
Will it work for Dell G7 7588?
Just got this same screen and colours and contrast seems off. Do you recommend a specific driver or profile for this screen? Also, did you have any issue with the bottom clips where they would cause a wave like effect on the screen? I’ve currently got them not clicked in properly so this doesn’t happen. It’s like a cable is pinching or something
My screen worked well. It does seem a bit more blue vs the older screen but I think that's because the old one was so yellow.
I haven't experienced any problems with the clips or wave effect.
Is this a TN or an IPS display? Panellookup says TN
Great video! Quick question, would this work with the dell g5 15 se 5505 2020? The base is all I can afford and unfortunately the stock screen is keeping me from buying it
I'm not 100% sure if it would. The idea would still be the same and as long as it has the same 30 pin adapter you'll be fine. Although results may be different with brightness control etc
Cameron Buchan ok I gotcha. Thanks!
Does this screen work for a Dell G5 5505
Hello! this screen does not fit my Dell G3 3590 a10p. I have bought the exact model you recommended and now i dont know what to do. Theres a 1,5 mm difference on each side of the screen
I've been having issues with getting my screen too. It seems some of the same product name are different sizes since I made the video unfortunately. I had to return my first and then find one that was definitely correct
So do all the Dell g7s have 40pin? I have the 2019 model with i7 9750H. I was told it could over clock to 100hz but I can't even get it to 75hz..
Pretty sure this was 30 pin. But your mileage may vary. Don't think you can get more out of a screen without replacing it though
Hi, do you know where a manget that detects if the lid is closed is located? Mine after replacing the screen fell off and since then my laptop didn't detect when it's closed (and the screen was still on). I found it attached to a metal plate below the screen (between these two metal plates that are connected to the hinges with 5 screws each). I found a place where it detects closed lid but I can't see the magnet in the same place in your video (and in all other videos about dell g5 screen removal that I found).
Do you know where this magnet is originally located? Thanks!
I didn't see the magnet at all and didn't pay attention to it. Perhaps it is on newer models?
@@CameronBuchan I found it. It’s located on the back side (internal side) of the front frame (the same frame that’s detached on this video) In my case the magnet must have fell off during disassembly and attached to a metal plate below the screen.
I just put it back on (also attached it with a hot glue) and it works now.
Good to keep in mind if somebody has the same issue in the future.
@@kalan91 good work!
Hi there thank you for sharing your experience upgrading your laptop screen. I have the same laptop and wondered if the screen brightness control still works, I heard on reddit that when you upgrade the screen the brightness function may no longer work. Is this true? Thanks
Depending on the screen and laptop sometimes it doesn't work. Fortunately the laptop and screen combo I got the brightness control works and is actually much brighter than the old screen!
@@CameronBuchan Ah thanks for the quick response. So which panel are you actually using in your laptop since you upgraded from the links you provided it looks like they provide several models. Currently in my laptop I have a 60hz LG LP156WF6
@@NitrousXProductions I bought the exact one that the UK ebay link is listed to. I tried to make sure all the links would work like mine. They are all probably the same monitor to be honest. What I look for is the replacement of N156HHE-GA1. Hope that makes sense!
@@CameronBuchan Ah I see well I'll see how I get on thanks for your help
@@CameronBuchan Quick update, I purchased the same panel as you. And I asked on the sellers page whether the panel would work with my laptop. They said it would not be compatible. But another fellow buyer purchased the panel and confirmed it worked. Installed the panel today. And like you said the colour accuracy and vibrancy is might and day compared to the original 60hz screen that came preinstalled. Played a few games on it. I also tested the brightness control and confirm that they do work as intended
Is the new screen a lot brighter? The original panel is too dim for using outdoors correct?
Mine was a lot brighter, along with the colour shift and higher refresh rate
Hello, There have a part 2 and any update regadi g on 120hz
Late reply but it was all successful!
Did you use the resolution changing application (like in the LTT video), or you had 120 Hz in display settings available?
What model of the screen is that?
120hz was available in windows after I changed the monitor. The model is in the description
Hello, i know this is an old video, but can you adjust brightness after changing the screen?
I could yes!
@@CameronBuchan do i need to like install any drivers or so? Thank you for the reply! ❤️
@@ahmadmurtadha1990 I did not!
I've been trying to find a 120Hz screen to upgrade to, I feel it has to be possible. It's an Inspiron 7501/Vostro 7500.
Was this a 30pin or 40 pin screen?
30 pin is for 60 hz, 40 pin is for 120 hz.
30 pin is for 60 hz, 40 pin is for 120 hz.
TY
Does the brightness controls still work? I know that is an issue sometimes
They still work for me. The new screen was actually brighter than the previous one
I had the issue with the brightness control.
I asked the asus service center guy to update to 120hz from 60. He said it will work but in a long run you will damage other hardware...did you got any prob in a year??
Been working like a charm. The thing about my laptop is there was a 120hz model available if bought straught from dell.
Where can I get a 120hz screen for this laptop? I bought one and everything works but I cannot sealed it because even though the screen is 15.6 is bigger than the original one. Thanks !! Mine is the G5 5590
I'm actually having similar issues! The one I bought when I made this video seems to be out of stock everywhere and can't find an exact copy!
@@CameronBuchan if you find the product model, number or whatever please let me know because I really don't want to use s 60hz display.
@@michaelbeltre3111 it is in the description 👍
Would this work on my g5 15 SE I have the regular version
As long as the connector and screen size is the same as the one you're replacing it should work!
Can you replace any 60Hz gaming laptop display panel to 120Hz? Or there are requirements?
There are certain requirements yes, depending on the laptop. For example, connectors can vary quite a bit depending on what type of monitor is used but your laptop will only work with one
@@CameronBuchan my laptop has 30 pin connector and it's an ips display. It's 60hz, can I upgrade it to 144Hz or 120Hz
@@EvanZed I theory as long as you find one that fits and is 30 pin it should work. Some laptops can just decide not to work. Can always try and if it doesn't work return the screen!
Can i replace to 120hz panel on my dell 5577?? Please help
That is the newer version of the one in the video. It all depends what connector is involved. If dell offers it as an upgrade then there should be a way to do it. I wouldn't know exactly what screen thoigh
Hey man, may I ask you something? I have order it and I'm waiting. Does it worth for photoshop work?
Hello there. It made colours much better so helped photoshop
@@CameronBuchan thanks bro. 🙏
I have a Dell 5577. The OEM TN screen is so horrible.
I didn't realise until I switched!
What revision is your version? I am watching several on eBay ranging from Rev.c1 to Rev.c3. Do you know what the differences between each revision of the screen is?
I didn't have a rev on the one I bought initially so I'd assume it would be the first. I'd hope the later revisions would be better. I think as long as 30 pin you should be OK but I can't guarantee that.
Hollow bro .I have dell g3 gaming For how much it supports
ssd
M.2
RAM 3000
512gb m. 2 ssd max
Will this work on the Dell G3 3590? Cheers from the Netherlands.
It should do if the connector on yours is the same!
How did it work out?
yoo did ur worked?
The link seems to expired now, is there any other sites they sell at?
That is unfortunate. It is probably still on ebay somewhere
is there any other link?

Hello there! I've been asking around and no one would answer me :')
my laptop is hp 15dk0001ne, I want to upgrade its screen to a 120hz, is it possible??
Thank you in advance!
I know the connector type and all, but Im afraid that modifying the brightness wouldn't work, I saw this issue with some people on internet
I wouldn't know for sure. As long as the size fits and tge connector is the same there is only one way to find out for sure!
is the connector 30 or 40 pin ?
It's a 30 pin
Same guide for Dell G7 7588, right? 😅
Made a while ago so could have changed!
Dose it support 15.6 inh?
This was the 15.6 screen so I hope so!
Do brightness settings work after?
They did with mine!
@@CameronBuchan Awesome. Thanks for the guide, the panel is going pretty cheap on ebay rn, will buy it soon and come back to this tutorial again.
Good luck!
And here I was thinking this was an LTT video at first
The highest of compliments
What about the response time?
Good question. Let me see if I can find the data
Edit: I can't find the data where I bought the screen from. I'll let you know if I find it
@@CameronBuchan Same.
@CameronBuchan hey, about response time. You could search for it by typing the screen model number and then notebookcheck. Notebookcheck is a website that focus on pc and notebook. For your screen, just type B156HAN04.2 notebookcheck. You wil find the laptop that use that screen that being reviewed by notebookcheck. They also talk about response time.
compatible with dell g3 3579 ?
It was at the time of making the video but now I’m not so sure and the screen I used is harder to find!
@@CameronBuchan thanks. Decided to get 60hz for better battery life
@@goldwally1428 cool! I didn’t see any difference in battery life and was already 60hz to start with for me
None of the links to the panel work
The video is 4 years old so a lot of suppliers have changed
@@CameronBuchan have you got a part number for the panel by any chance so I can do some research on where to buy please? Thanks so much rich
faulty hinges on Dell laptop's. Gaming laptop, Dell is not standing behind their faulty design.
Edit: Nevermind read through the comments and found an answer. just bought one through your affiliate link, have a cuppa T on me 👍
Much appreciated!
Do Not do screen replacement like this while the battery is still connected you can easly damege the cabel or your laptop!
great one - and affordable cause you can use the old panel as an HDMI screen for sure.
Here is a video what you need to find or get and how to build czcams.com/video/CfirQC99xPc/video.html
Usefull for any device like a raspberry pi or Pi Mirror telling you the time and weather before you leave the house also shown on that channel and of cause the second screen idea to unfold on a screen on top of your laptop screen.
Nice break from your usual rowing related content ...
Hope to see your next PB on the erg in summer in preparation for the next summer olympics selection ...
The german team will have another selection so everything will be reset - except for the one and only Olli Zeidler.
sorry for my dumb question but can i add an external monitor thats 120hz to get 120hz from this laptop?
In theory yes. I'm not sure what hdmi port is on your laptop but in theory it should be able to push enough data through hdmi if it is 2.0 or above
