  • Hello CZcamsrs! Today I upgrade my screen on my Dell G5 laptop, hopefully you can use this video as a guide to either upgrade or replace your laptop screen!
    Here are the links(affiliate) to the panel I upgraded to:
    Ebay
    ebay.to/36JahZe (UK)
    ebay.to/3cgydV2 (US)
    Amazon
    amzn.to/3dgbzO2 (UK)
    amzn.to/3gzL2xm (US)
    The stock panel is a 60Hz panel and the new one is 120Hz. The new panel also has much better colour accuracy and brightness which should make video and photo editing that bit easier. I hope you find this video helpful if you want to replace the screen in your laptop and shows how easily it can be done. All you need is a small screw driver and a smooth pry tool, such as a blunt knife, plastic tools or a credit card! Even if you have no experience at all this upgrade is not too complex and should only take 10-20 minutes!

    Wow great video you showed how easy it was and linked to amazon page for the panel that is cheaper than the one I found and it includes tools! I was thinking of paying someone else to replace the screen on my Dell G3 but seeing how easy it I feel confident I can do it and would rather not waste that money on having to pay someone.

    A couple ideas for you!
    You can buy controller board for old laptop panels, so you can use it as a 2nd monitor.
    Where is the pc? I thought you built one.
    I love the tech stuff, but would you consider making an other channel if the content is more consistent.
    Love the work, rowing and tech, both of my interest!

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  Před 4 lety +1

      Think the actual monitor is done but definitely something to work on for the future!
      I moved for lockdown so it is back in the other place.
      I considered it but went for putting these tech related videos in a playlist on this channel. Not really much point in not leveraging the channel that has already been built. For example, you might not have seen this video without it being on this channel. What do you think?

    • @lollama3616
      @lollama3616 Před 4 lety +2

      @@CameronBuchan I think a playlist is a good idea as an other channel is more maintenance and could lead to more work, this should just stay as a hobby that you document not a separate CZcams channel. Also I think with these kind of videos, people will come across them from anywhere around the world so it is more just one video that they really care about not the channel (for me with this sort of content at least).
      Also here is a link for a controller board for the old panel so that you can use it as a monitor: www.ebay.com.au/itm/HDMI-EDP-LCD-LED-controller-Board-kit-for-NV156FHM-N43-NV156FHM-N42-1920-1080-/163003924870 might want to check if the compatibility matches though, I don't have the exact model number for your screen. Just got this same screen and colours and contrast seems off. Do you recommend a specific driver or profile for this screen? Also, did you have any issue with the bottom clips where they would cause a wave like effect on the screen? I’ve currently got them not clicked in properly so this doesn’t happen. It’s like a cable is pinching or something

    Hi, do you know where a manget that detects if the lid is closed is located? Mine after replacing the screen fell off and since then my laptop didn't detect when it's closed (and the screen was still on). I found it attached to a metal plate below the screen (between these two metal plates that are connected to the hinges with 5 screws each). I found a place where it detects closed lid but I can't see the magnet in the same place in your video (and in all other videos about dell g5 screen removal that I found).
    Do you know where this magnet is originally located? Thanks!

      @@CameronBuchan I found it. It’s located on the back side (internal side) of the front frame (the same frame that’s detached on this video) In my case the magnet must have fell off during disassembly and attached to a metal plate below the screen.

      @CameronBuchan hey, about response time. You could search for it by typing the screen model number and then notebookcheck. Notebookcheck is a website that focus on pc and notebook. For your screen, just type B156HAN04.2 notebookcheck. You wil find the laptop that use that screen that being reviewed by notebookcheck. They also talk about response time.

      In theory yes. I'm not sure what hdmi port is on your laptop but in theory it should be able to push enough data through hdmi if it is 2.0 or above
