In this video I'll show you how to build planter boxes with minimal tools and materials

Your planter boxes look awesome! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and being so honest with the mistake you made and showing us how to fix it. You are awesome. Thanks again.
It's actually awesome that you showed the mistake and how to repair it. Mistakes are a part of woodworking and brainstorming fixes is a talent. Those planters turned out beautifully. I would add that I think this would be a terrific first time woodworker project.
Very true!
Love the iron and wood look, thanks for giving the wife the idea...and me a new tool!
Looks awesome! My only suggestion, coming from a metalworking background, is to remove the millscale from the angle iron, then prime and paint. Millscale is a thin layer of oxide that forms during the milling of the steel, and while you can just paint over it like you did, youll get a smoother surface, and a longer lasting paint job if you remove it first. I've always sandblasted or ground it off, but there are chemical removers as well.
Perfect timing! the boss has been wanting to add planters for the patio - these look great and are a lot cheaper than buying them outright. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and techniques with us!
Glad I could help!
excellent build! really loved the black steel legs and the contrast they give against the cedar
Yeah super sharp! 😃
Absolutely stunning!
I like the design and look. For the interior I use non woven geo fabric. Allows water and air to pass. Nicely done!
I need to make two triangle shaped planter boxes. This video is (almost) exactly what I need! Thanks.
They turned out great definitely would try making some of these thanks for sharing
Awesome and easy to make
Amazing work, dude! Really beautiful planters! 😃
I loved the iron legs! They work great!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! You too!
I lined the inside walls of my planter box with high density foam. This helped to keep the dirt cooler and lessen the water evaporation because the boxes received a lot of sun. one other thing, I made wooden legs and to keep them off the ground I used feet that would normally be used on the bottom of a cutting board
Cool project! Thanks 👍.
You bet!
nice work Sir!
oh man...i bet it smells amazing in there. I have some cedar floating shelves in my bathroom just because of the aroma
Yeah it's amazing
Good Morning,
They look Great, Thank you for sharing, I am going to make some : )
Happy 4th
Awesome! Happy 4th to you too!
nice fast project
It sure is
Love the project. Purchased the plans which are very detailed and easy to follow. I am just starting to use a router and not sure what angle chamfer bit you used. I am going to purchase the angle you used. Thank you!
Just a 45 degree
Wait, you have to match the plug grains up perfectly with the boards. Teasing! Looks great.
🤣🤣
I like the look of the timber oil. That’s a new one to me. Is there a certain brand that you prefer? I really like your color choice…what color is it? Thanks.
Great. Easy project. Cedar in my area has gotten stupid expensive.
Oh no!
I would love to know what stain you added to the water proofing and how much to get that color. It is very nice.
What are the screw lengths and drill bit size? I’m also going to use rough cut 1x2’s for the framing since can’t rip.
Very nice build and like the look with the black legs and cedar wood. I do have one question though, it looks like the screws that hold the legs to the planter are holding all the weight of the planter box and whatever gets put into the planter box. So what would the weight limit be on one of these you show? I know it would all depend on the length of the planter box and depth. Cheers
Even the large planter fully loaded is less than 100 lbs. I'm sure the shear strength of a single screw is more than that and mine has 16 screws.
Great planter box. Would it work if I had a false bottom halfway up so I don’t have to use as much dirt? Anyway, they are beautiful and something I am interested in making.
Sure. You can place the bottom to wherever depth you want.
Bought the plns, gonna try to build this with 7/8 fence pickets since that s3s cedar you are using costs a fortune. Hope i dont regret it
You should be OK if you can get them straight enough 😂
@@MWAWoodworks im gathering that its not gonna have the same fit n finish… i think itll suffice for a planter. I just cant see spending $14 per 1x4x12 cedar board
I see 1x4x8 cedar boards 5 pack for 150 for big box. Does that sound right?? Really expensive
Great video, thanks for posting! How much do you estimate this weighs with it full of dirt? Thinking of building this and putting on my deck, concerned about the weight though.
Not heavy enough to worry. My wife and I can carry them full
What are the screw lengths and drill bit size?
Beautiful 12:33 but not practical. I have a tool shop, but dang!! 😂😂
Would have brought the bottom slats up more for less earth too fill. But looks great.
Fair point. Thanks for watching!
did you use a different type of wood for the top? or all cedar?
All cedar
coulda just gone with a slightly wider piece of angle iron.. 2.5" angle instead. granted, unless you did all the planters that way, it would look odd. and of course would add cost.. or change to 2.5" aluminum and since larger angle, wouldn't necessarily have to go to 1/4" thick. just side thoughts. cool build though.
Why not use a drill press to do all the countersinks? Would seem to be much faster if making several boxes
You could add that bit to a drill press for sure
Love it but the iron part was ehhh yeah intimidating but looks so good
Id say the iron part was the easiest of all provided you have the correct tool to cut the metal (which can be rented).
🙏👏👍💪
O need to put any finish, it will silver naturally
Yep if silver is the look you're going for no need for finish!
I think it would look even more modern if you don't put the trip on top of the box.
smell your what?
😂😂🤣
