How much does it cost to build it yourself vs. custom cabinets?
Ok, just for the sake of you viewers you could buy a cheap digital termometer and measure the temperature in that crockpot. I don't beleive that we have crockpots in my country or just I haven't seen one, but we have stoves and pots.
Hi! What program do you use for the design?

People, please stop saying "we don't have this tool's" he's not even using the absolute best or the most expensive. What did you expect? Using only a hammer and nails?
Buying top-tier tools as a beginner is akin to buying a top-end guitar and expecting it to make you a better player. Some of the stuff you have to compensate for with inexpensive tools are lessons in craftsmanship and should not be ignored. A great pair of hands can make a cheap guitar sound like gold. Ditto woodworking tools.
I’ve been a hobbyist woodworker for the last 25 years and have used all of these joinery methods. By far, the domino is superior. The only negative that it has is initial investment in the tool.
Its rare for me to appreciate a video like this one. No bullshit. Very well explained. Dont think only about your own projects but caring about what other peoples might do.
I'm having trouble choosing where to place the coop. We live on a slope.
Great tips for sure. I can't tell you how much time I have wasted looking for things because my shop was a cluttered and disorganized mess. Takes the motivation right out of you.

love them pre finished plywood I get them from the lumber yard here in Houston $37 for a 4x8 Home dept or Lowe’s won’t match these prices
The pocket hole hate… I mean, if it’s good enough for Norm, it’s good enough for me.
I love your videos. Very helpful. I recently bought your cabinet plan bundle and started building the 4 drawer cabinet. I ran into a problem when spacing the drawers. It looks like there is 5.25” in between each drawer stretcher. Also, the cut list said to make the rails for the face frame 1.25” but is that correct? I’m thinking the top and bottom rails might need to be 1”. If you could help with this I’d appreciate it. Looking forward to building out these cabinets. Also, can you recommend a good drawer slide that won’t break the bank? Thanks and keep those videos coming.
Dude what is this futuristic MFT attachment in minute 3:04? 😃😃😃
Another homemade option to those kreg levelers:leveler. 90⁰ triangles from 1/2" ply, mount to the back/ underside, and just put a flat head screw in each corner to act as adjustable levelers.
Tight tenons are the GOAT, especially when glued, clamped, and then dowelled... the joint is locked together for life.
Sadly, there are plenty of people who simply have no "local" access to quality dealers. In my case, I live in a desert. There are no trees, thus there are no sawmills. If you search for mills, they're all 150+ miles away. My closest hardwood dealer is 80 miles away on the other side of a mountain. There is nothing closer. Everyone has to travel, which means there aren't a lot of woodworkers out here. We've got lots of Lowes and Home Depots but nothing else. The closest thing we've ever had to a local mill stopped selling hardwood many years ago and now just chops up firewood for sale because they couldn't make any money at it. Not everyone has the options.
Do you have plans for this smaller coop?
"In both mm. and standard mesurement" 😢
@MWAWoodworks I started learning about woodworking in shop class in grade 7 primarily, some was watching Bob Villa (I read an article recently that classified him as the pioneer of the DIY genre!) And some from watching other people. As a woman I've struggled to learn from others until the Internet came along because with the exception of my junior high shop teacher (r.i.p. Mr. Rhodenizer...) everyone told me woodworking wasn't for women! What a bunch of crap! Now thanks to teachers like you on CZcams university (once again thanks for the lessons!) I have learned sooo much! As G.I.Joe said "knowing is half the battle!" I've been researching like crazy and teaching myself. We've added to our tools over the years for house improvement projects...Some were gifts. I absolutely love Facebook marketplace!! I have gotten free wood and even tools! You would be amazed at what people give away! I've bought quality tools dirt cheap because they needed to be refurbished or the person upgraded. My favourite freebee so far is a full size King router with a complete set of bits for free...I kid you not! He used 2 bits and gave up because he didn't understand the potential. He knew I was trying to start my own woodworking business repurposing and refurbishing items. I almost cried when he dropped the price just for me. I have to point out to beginners two things: DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! Knowledge is power, an investment nobody can take away from you. The original woodworking people didn't have power...start small with hand tools, learn old school techniques to sell small projects. Use that money to by necessary tools next. Once you have learned the basics with hand tools and sold things THAT is when you start getting the bigger and better tools. Learn something new every day.
love building with prefinished c2 maple plywood :). Local distributor has it for $105 / sheet, and it is definitely my go to when building new cabinets for customers don't care what the material is.
I'm not dragging this guy or this video. I enjoyed it. But as popular as this search for making cabinets must be, I am surprised that someone hasn't made it into a series, or course. Instead of just building a thing, explain the thing they are building. Where to buy the wood? What tools do you need at a minimum? What is a rail and what is a stile? How to measure? A guide to building your own cabinet. A step by actual step with the knowledge needed to really make something you can be proud of. "Just saying."
Where do you get your tin labels?
Congratulations on taking your side job and making it your day job. I do not do woodworking but I love watching people make stuff. I also watch one person in Japan that makes woodworking jigs. He does not speak in his videos but the way he makes them shows all of the steps.
Love the video but Christ. How many times can YT auto play it for me?
So what does that mean? Auto play?
@@MWAWoodworks The same video just keeps showing up in my feed over and over. I cant stop it. Don't get me wrong. I love the content and used your technique to build my own cabs. Nothing you've done. Just YT's bonkers algorithm.
Hmmm crazy. Is that on your phone or computer or TV?
The one thing that many woodworking youtubers overlook/conflate about joinery is that it isn't just about strength, it's about longevity/durability as wood expands & contracts & is exposed to elements; in which case, every kind of joinery has it's place and purpose.
Just use a L bracket
Brave little toaster, the furnace, or the vacuum
Plastic reinforced with glass. I like this list.
A useful video, thank you.
This video helps my OCD. I love organizing my shop. Helps to know what is where.
Have you had any issues using OSB on the floor in the coop?
I put a couple inches of sand in the bottom of the coop so there shouldn't be any issues with the OSB
@@MWAWoodworks Thank you!
I applaud you and wish you and your family best in your new bold journey! Thank you for all your content.
Thanks for a really good, clear comparison of all the joinery methods. Well done.

The drill press guide is like $215 though. Yeah, it may not be flimsy, but it’s approaching 1/3 the price of a reasonable bench top drill press a hobbyist would likely budget for. I thought about getting one of these as an alternative to a drill press temporarily, but then saw the price makes me wonder if I don’t just save for the drill press and wait?
I've had both a drill press and a drill guide for years. Speaking as a woodworker who doesn't really do much work outside of that, the drill press is easily one of the least used power tools in my shop. There are times when it's nice to have one but I'd say 80% of the time whatever I'm working on is too big to use the drill press and I end up using a hand drill and then using the drill guide if the hole requires precision. I've also confirmed this observation through conversations with others in the CZcams woodworking community. Just food for thought. I realize that there is a "perceived" value difference between those two tools but I think people don't really know without experience how little value a drill press brings to a woodworking shop. That's why I thought this was such a good tool to include in this video.
@@MWAWoodworks thanks for such an insightful response! You’re right, I think only once in the last year I needed a drill press and walked down the street to my neighbour who has a sweet shop. While I’m only starting year 3 in woodworking, I’m still debating which tool will get me further without getting my Mrs upset when I justify the expenses. Haha! Which isn’t easy when it’s a hobby anyway… at least I’m making her stuff so she’s happy and I can buy new tools over time which makes me happy. :). I finally got a bigger router and am working on a router table as it seems my particular projects would have been regularly benefitting from that. I have “wanted” a drill press, but you’re right that I haven’t needed one enough to justify the purchase over something else that will get more use. Thanks for the advice! I’m enjoying your content BTW
Really, really good overview of different options available to small shop owners. I loved your tip on making a trough with the router first, then using a jig saw, then finishing with the router. That would be my go to method in most cases. I have good dust extraction here so that's not so much an issue. Great job, my friend 👍
The Deep Drawer Base Cabinet, you didn’t mention the drawer clearance using the under mount glides.
Which clearance?
@@MWAWoodworks …when using the side mounted glides, the drawers are 1” less than the opening, giving 1/2” on each side. For example , the under-mount glides, what’s the drawer size for a 14” opening ?
So you size drawers differently with undermount slides because you measure from bar to bar on the slides. The bars are what the drawer sits on. So you can use different thickness plywood for the drawer sides and end up with different size gaps on the sides. I think thats probably confusing if you've never used them but it's hard to fully explain in a CZcams comment 😂
Do buy a benchtop drill press -very useful in the shop
Woo Hoo!
welp that was a huge timesaver, thank you
I think this is the best woodworking guide I've ever seen! You have a great way of explaining things, and your process is logical
I don't get it, how can all these guys afford to make all their shop tools out of Baltic Birch? That has got be close to most expensive plywood.
Ive dun a video about dowels
