I like rollables for these reasons:
- They seem more durable. The hinge brings with it a lot of worries about dust, how strong it is, on top of the crease. With a rollable, all of that is self contained, and should be dust free, and should be more durable than a hinge. With no crease.
- They'd solve the aspect ratio problem. Because the manufacturer could just make the phone roll out enough to get whatever ratio they want. They're not stuck with the screen always being double it's folded size when unfolded.
Plus the slide out looks so slick and awesome. Imagine a Galaxy S20 that rolls out to a 16:10 display. That'd be wicked IMO.
When I think of rollable I think like a scroll but super small and rolls into a reasonable phone
Gosh just really hoping that display lasts a couple of years in great condition
If they could make the camera's roll able up the screen with mechanics like pop up camera's that could be interesting.
Dust would still be an issue as when you're "closing" the phone, it would drag the dust into the phone. And what about oily fingerprints, imagine closing the phone without wiping it off first, would it cost damage? There's just so many questions but i guess we just have to wait.
You donât have to imagine very hard, Samsung demoâd a concept rollable phone years ago, when they first developed the tech. Type Samsung Rollable Phone into Google images for some great concepts, I canât seem to find any pics of the original concept though.

It really depends how it's designed. Back then it was a big phone since there was a big forehead and chin but most phones on the market has little to no bezels which means a bigger screen on a smaller phone

Marques is 100% right about finding the right smartphone being a journey. I still remember each step on mine.
My first step was a Google Nexus S, which set me firmly on the Android path. My next step was a Sony Xperia SP, which I feel was underrated. The OS skin appealed to me, especially the inbuilt Walkman app, and the light bar was a gimmick that I never got tired of. (It was Rgb lighting ahead of its time, now I think about it.) Having that phone makes me sad that Sony doesn't sell their phones in Australia any more.
The steps after that were the LG G3, the Huawei P9, and the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, which I am writing this on. And I'm looking to take another step in a couple months.

great video! In my opinion, the Holy Grail is to have one single product , one time purchase that can do several functions : phone, tablet, laptop. I think specs wise its very achievable.
imagine a device that you take out your pocket , according to your needs you can use as a phone, then read like in a kindle device, then watch media like a tablet and be productive like on a light notebook. plug this device on a monitor/tv and keep working/entertaining.
if you need more power, then you go for your desktop/high end laptop.
I have to mention that IÂŽm in Brazil, everything is overpriced. ThatÂŽs why itÂŽs so atractive for me to just need to buy one device, accessories only for it, one maintenance, etc.

3:18 Yes, a square is weird for a single app, but with this size you would normally have 2 apps open side-by-side.
5:36 Phones can be real computing devices one the software catches up. There is barely any real productivity software available on phones even if the hardware is already there for much more than we are using it for.
7:23 It's not that they can't 'use' them (I see them using huge phones all the time), they just can't use them 'one-handed'. Also, when I look at old phones I had, I realize immediately that I couldn't go back to such small screens, they would significantly limit productivity.
The s20+ is the best phone so far coming from an iPhone xs user and I love the 21 by 9 screen size its easy to hold with alot of screen đ

@@thearyaputra exactly. Skype's been around longer than most, so has the iPhone, and people don't seem to have a problem with that. I don't see what alternatives there are that are significantly better
@BixbyBob Discord is simply too hard to use for a quick one-time call.... You have to first of all get the other person's number next to their name so you can invite him, on Skype all you need is the name, and you usually know it. Also you need to install Discord, Skype is pre-installed on Win 10 anyways, so might as well use it. Also there's the fact that Skype has been around for WAYYYYYYYY longer than Discord, thus has more experience in the market.
Discord is great, but it is quite confusing if you've never used it before, I remember downloading it a year ago and It took me 5 months to understand it completely with all the servers and permissions......
@BixbyBob I'm not "lazy", I care for my time if I'm in a business, time=money, and no employer wants you wasting time learning these features, that are useless for making a video call, and yes, Skype is already pre-installed on windows, and 90% of the business market has already created a Skype account 5+ years ago when Discord wasn't even an idea, so no need to register and waste 5+ minutes installing extra apps. And it is easy to use ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT, as I said, almost everyone in business knows and has Skype, and they can use it efficiently without "training" on another app that takes at least a week of month of getting used to, to reach peak efficiency, we are talking ~20-60 year old people with VERY varying levels of tech knowledge, most would probably not know how to use the thing if the server bar got an extra channel out of nowhere....
I'm writing this as a "gamer" that uses Discord 24/7, but I 100% see the downsides of moving the entire market onto a new and potentially unstable platform, while Skype is an established giant that is 100% reliable... Discord might be bought tomorrow and transformed into something entirely else for all the businessmen know...
Love the format. It might be the social distancing speaking but I really felt like this "let's sit down and talk smartphones" sort of format brings more spontaneity to the table. Something a well-rounded and highly edited video - although it's also quality infotainment - does not. I guess what I'm going for here is: Keep those coming! Great job!

I hope the foldable form sticks around as an option because I live in a rural area and cell towers are one of my only options that's economical. So I buy nice phones just as a home device. So a big screen would be real nice.

Only for people who like to stay ahead of the curve. You could still make the iPhone 11 pro max last for 3-4 years before actually needing to upgrade. People are still using the iPhone X today

I think foldables work well let's say if we can come up with the perfect CRM application it would work well for sales reps to go and input sales data. Without having to carry around a laptop. you would also be able to do great presentations.
