It's no surprise. Most people can't afford to spend a thousand bucks on a smartphone, that's ridiculous. I think sometimes reviewers get too immersed in that flagship world and forget about the phones most people actually use
Not really, they do recommend phones for “most ppl” tho, there’s just more hype around the flagships, and it’s gotten out of control, let’s also keep in mind that ppl who buy one thousand dollar phones are the same demographic that either have cash laying around their house or won’t be upgrading anytime soon. Most ppl don't buy 1K phones straight upfront, you have to remember that alot of ppl take advantage of the yearly upgrade program with their carriers where you can buy it but pay for them monthly
nah i can afford it
It's good because that gives smaller CZcamsrs benefit
Shit I dont have money. For a 1000 dollar phone. But yet I still manage. To have one on me. I'm using the note 9 right now. I'm getting the note ten plus next month.
Nah... i'll stick to the flagships... My galaxy S10 is great
Honestly speaking, not everyone can afford a thousand dollar smartphone and not everyone needs all the features or gimmicks on a phone. Some people just need a phone that can get through the day, do tasks, and not hurt their wallets.
I commend/applaud CZcamsrs who review budget and mid-range phones because not everyone has the luxury to afford flagships.
and mid-range phones are pretty much as good as flagship phones now. I got my xiaomi mi 9t pro for less than 500 dollars and it's fricking amazing
@@woosh2055 Same but with A50
I can afford to buy a $1000 smartphone, but there's no way in hell I'm buying a $1000 smartphone in 2019. There are so many great affordable smartphones starting at $200 that have so many features and most importantly, they all make great phone calls. None of these "new tech" in smartphones is worth the over $1000 price tag.
Surprise surprise! Economics class! If everyone could afford flagships for everything we'd all be flying the best personal jets, helicopters, onto the world's bestest production yachts, with the quietest submarines to dig for treasure at the bottom of the Mariana trench only because grandma lost some jewelry from the titanic after losing her v-card in a CAR inside a cruise ship. Then after finding her v-card memoirs we'd send it to Mars, because grandma gave that SpaceX engineer some throat, while her dentures rubbed his balls. Meanwhile some Ring webcam was being hacked and the link was sent to the emergency broadcast system. Because Ring is the new flagship of selfies.

You can get a set of decent wireless earphones for $20. That's not the point. People don't want to rely on batteries. If I'm on a 6-hour flight, or a 12-hour bus ride, I don't want the earphones to stop working. I want to have a CHOICE. @EM Bluetooth earphones use less power now, with bt 5.0 it uses even less power than a headphone jack. Airpods and similar true wireless earphones are super compact and easy to use. It's just nonsense, that people pay a thousand dollar for a device ,that you throw out at least after 2 years. Plus nowadays midrangers can be 2 -3 times powerful than a 2 years old flagship. No Note-series phone has the Exynos 9611. Not all Exynos processors are equally powerful
@@teenshii I would go as far as to say that Exynos is not powerful at all. The higher end ones are powerful but they're laughable when compared to Qualcomm and straight up sh*t when compared to Apple's. The midrange exynos are just Samsung's cheap alternatives to cut on the Qualcomm tax by compromising on the speed so very much. Also they're pushing bad alternatives to everything in android. Like the one UI instead of stock android sucks, the image processing of samsung sucks when compared to Pixel phones, Bixby is terrible when compared to google assistant. That's why I'll pick A pixel or one plus or a xiaomi over Samsung anyday.
I'm samsung hater redmi op
@Kenn Honson X who cares about names
The A50 surprised me by house good it was. It felt like the sort of flagship I would have a few years ago. It looks and handles so well it really did feel like a flagship and the real flagship phones went above the clouds
One valid point missed here is that the rate at which last years flagship drop costs people are fine waiting to go with one gen down flagships. Getting a quality product at a mid-range price. I bought the LG G7 way past its prime at less than 1/2 the cost. Works better than mid-range phones at a similar if not cheaper cost.
This I got a good deal on a note 9 not too long ago the slight differences and my personal preferences didn't leave me really wanting the note 10 or 10+ I set my needs and whatnot and the note 9 fit the bill and never felt the need to go back to my phone before that the pixel 2 xl( battery wasnt cutting it )
The old flagship argument is dying and getting old because of diminishing returns on features for flagships
Not to mention older android, far worse battery life because of power hungry processor and even planned obselesense especially from bigger brands like Samsung
@@viyusavery248 It's not dying, you still get better materials, sound, screen, water resistant, cameras and power
Ignacio Romero yea I got an LG g6 and payed 90£ for it and it has water resistance wireless charging 1440p display 13+13 wide angle camera which is just amazing and the Korean model has quad dac, I couldn’t find any phones to come close to this unless itself was once a flag ship phone
And IP rating (?)
It's not really a surprise, since not everyone has the money to buy $1000 phones... But you can save up money to buy mid-range affordable smartphones.
I think people do have the money, but people don't value their phones as high as the phone market does. Phone prices inflated too quickly.
Flagships are very cheap if you actually save up. They literally release yearly, you have a whole year to save up for the smartphone of your choice and aside from that they have trade in programs you could get up to $500 off. Really great video.
In the past few years the advancements are merely curved screens, foldable phones, motorized popup cameras, in-display fingerprint readers, increasingly faster charging, wireless charging, higher resolution cameras, and obviously faster processors. Some aesthetic trends have also come about, like glass backs and funky color gradients on the back. Maybe there's more but these are the major ones. Thing is though, most of these things aren't absolute necessities and most folks just want to watch a video or check their socials, as this video states. So apart from the glamor of flagships, most folks will be perfectly happy with a mid-range along with the satisfaction that they got a terrific deal for the money. Most don't need super blazing speeds either and mid-range processors are very fast already. Phones are fast becoming like PCs. The only thing that will help it keep selling is because phones are often in your hands or pockets so there's a greater tendency to damage them, making it necessary to get a new one. Not so much with PCs that just sit on your desk and are less subject to mishaps.
I came from an S9+ to a Redmi Note 8 Pro and I just love how the Redmi doesn't have that irritating curved screen and delivers very near the performance of the S9+ which was $1200 at the time of purchase, while the Redmi was just $210 after promo codes, direct from Xiaomi.
As time goes on and the tech stagnates it'll be a competition based on pricing, which is already happening now. And for us that can't be a bad thing.
I moved up to galaxy A50 and I'm very happy. Mid priced smart phones are the sweet spot for buyers like me. Great performance and features for less money 💰 wins every time. The Japanese car companies did that during the 1970's and forced American car companies to up their game to be competitive. Competition works.
I've been debating getting a Mid-range phone. This video confirmed my reasons

Good thing you spend $500 bucks on an Android Phone, I can’t imagine anyone spending over a thousand dollars on an Android phone, even $900, because after a few months when the value comes down, you can pick up the same phone for like $500-600. Which is a steal. If it was an iPhone you can pay over a thousand and more since the value is better meaning you can resell it and get a healthy amount of that investment back without feeling robbed

So is it just me who spends weeks researching what phone to buy.. I don't like just going for the mid range phone due to it being the easiest one to decide on. Maybe the majority are like that but not the people I know.
Same! I want a very good phone but at the same time it shouldn't be too expensive as it might break or be stolen so yea. I've been searching continuously!!
Recommend Nokia 9 or Redmi K20 Pro
I do the same. I can go for a month doing research on which phone to buy
I feel you, just go for something you can afford and is not so low in quality. Always works. Or if you want, you can join my new contest to win a brand new Ipad Pro 512gb that I have for my 1st year anniversary of my company! Good luck!
@SirSean I have both Note 7 Pro and 8 Pro. You may go for the 8 Pro
Everything that Arun has mentioned in this video were the deciding factors that I've considered when I bought my phone. Very informative video. Thanks Arun👍
Wow great information

AndroidStationTV did you just rapping the whole time in your video??
Here's a summary from what I understood of the video:
Flagships are like the developer/experimental phones, whereas midrange phones are the stable versions.
4:02 this should be the optimal answer.
"Why go flagships when all your job can be done at mid-ranges?"
Why go midrange when 'all your job' can be done on flagship 🤷♀️
@@55Tonythetigar And the so called 'flagship' becomes mid range in few years to come.
Yea, I started with flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 and few years later switch to Xiao MI.
Better spec, newer OS, but cheaper than the time I bought my flagship.
Absolutely, my dad is still perfectly fine with his iPhone 7. He doesn't do anything heavy, CZcams, sending emails, WhatsApp calls, browsing Facebook, he doesn't need a top tier chip and what not.
Enthusiasts, on the other hand, want top tier everything, a high refresh rate screen, a top tier chip, top tier battery, top tier camera, and they're ready to drop the thousand dollar price tag for those things.
For the average consumer ? Mid-range smartphones basically cover everything they need.
@@bluememe4652 Enthusiasts want to do the same as your dad but with an expensive toy in their hand. That's it. Most of us do exactly the same thing. Nowadays all phones do pretty much the same in terms of practicality. Excluding things like water resistance and wireless charging etc. Why would I be bothered that my phone is not water proof? Am I going swimming with it? Is it really worth spending more money on that feature? Are we really going swimming with that thing?
@@pedrosilvamusician idk man, I personally prefer flagships, it gives me a sense of 'security' when it comes to the phones capabilities and what not.
Augmented reality and haptic controls are exciting tech that I would like to see widely available on the market in the future.
Thank you for the video. It is very helpful and It made me realize that it's not all about flagships.
I cannot get enough of the Nottingham background shots. Love the nostalgia.

Buying last years flagship is the best strategy for buying new phones.
Why is your stupid comment above comments with 2k likes like c'mon CZcams
That's how I buy them.
You're profile pic is very stupid.
R Arbuckle, that's the smartest choice if you want to have top-performance and built at a reasonable price.
Not really as they would still be expensive
Yep have to agree with especially what Xiaomi and Realme are doing right now 👍🏼

it was the #1 best selling android phone, actually. i believe the iphone xr was the overall best seller

Amazing video.very informative.
Thanks for the prototype testers who bought flagships mobiles. U guys r making midrange mobiles better with matured features.
Uhhh theyre the same company wat u talkin about
@@suhanesetne985 The companies are recouping their costs from flagship sales which the company will then use for further R&D. In addition, flagship buyers will tell the company what features is needed/wanted thus the company will improve upon it for future flagships and that said feature/features will trickle down to mid-rangers. Lastly there is a bigge profit margin with flagships than mid rangers which keeps the company existing

Switched from the Galaxy S9 to the Galaxy A52s a while back, couldn't be happier (I didn't even use some "high-end" features such as the heart rate monitor anyways)
Plus it still has a headphone jack AND microSD slot
been using my a51 for about two weeks now,
freakin love it
Same
Make videos on topics other than technology. I loved the risk aversion part.
The flagship in 2 years will be crap cuz the phone will be older, used, and stuff and youre a bit forced to buy another. However, mid-ranges are a lot similar and after 2 years, you can get another phone again for not that many costs
EXACTLY my scenario, with my Galaxy Note FE. Just worn out battery issue alone would be enough to make this flagship so crappy.
Yep Yep
Nope flagship are better but you never understand it unless you buy it.
I used my Samsung galaxy note3 for about 4year no performance issue in that time but battry died thats why its died.
Now i am using lg v30+ which is gonna be a 3 years old after few months still no performance issue it just smooth and i am happy with it.
My sister is using oneplus 2 it is gonna be a 5year old im few months in 4-5months maybe and still it working fine but just little performance issue and battery issue but still good for average use. We are going to gift new mobile to her in January btw.
So flagship mobile are just awesome you cant compare it too midrange.
My brother has oneplus 7 and my dad has k20pro i am pretty sure it will work for 2-3 years without any compromise.
@@Lightyagami-tx2xb My moto G5 is also still fast, just like my Sony Xperia tipo with it's Snapdragon 200 0,8Ghz. The only phones that became slow where those bflagships my family had: Galaxy S3 after one year, Galaxy Alpha after one year aswell.
The Snapdragon 200 1x0,8Ghz outperformed the galaxy S3's 4×1,4Ghz CPU 6 to one after 3 years only.
The Galaxy S3 slowed down 98,75% in 3 years only. Even typing pin code was with hard lags and needed atleast 10secs.
I think we can all agree that iPhones should be cheaper but a two year old iPhone is not crap and will still get all the latest system updates. If you take proper care of it, you’ll be able to sell it at a good price to someone who will likely also sell it, when he/she is ready to buy a new one.

People are buying their phones instead of on contract. Contract plans are notoriously bad value. You can get much more data for example in a month to month plan.
I do
Australia agrees.
Australians must be sensible people 🙂
Contracts are beautiful, if you subtract the costs of the data plan youll see that your buying the phone cheaper then what it would be outright.
@@Mendaciloquence sure, compare the post paid plans with / without your phone and you will realise that you are paying more with a phone which is a gimmick they use to promote that you get phone for cheap but apparently we don't.
