as someone who is learning games development and have a level of OCD when it comes to making things and needing to be symmetrical and done properly i completely understand the frustration.

I think this happens in more games than overwatch. So many comp shooter games have you spawn straight up facing the back wall or just any direction that doesnt point towards the middle of the map.

wait. doesn't team 1 having a 50% chance to spawn closer to the objective mean that team 2 also has a 50% chance to spawn closer to the objective? unless those closer spawns just don't exist for team 2 and it's a 50% chance to have equal spawns
I mean its not actuslly that important since most modes where it would matter is those with a defending and attacking side (thus asymetrical maps) and everything else has everybody waiting in spawn to leave anyway when the game begins and such a miniscule distance difference wont hardly ever change the outcome of a match
i think the difference comes mid-match and how playing on one side could have a different outcome than playing the exact same game with the other spawn, see the situations where you touch at the last second to trigger overtime vs when you just miss it. It's miniscule and random, and usually won't change the outcome. But still weird overall on mirrored maps.
None of yall are playing so optimally that map geometry is the reqson you won or lost

Idk if this is a stupid question but why would we ever need more than 5 spawn points to begin with??
So you're not stuck spawning in the same 5 spots. It grants the ILLUSION of more, most likely to keep you from getting bored with your immediate surroundings upon spawn, which makes you more inclined to go round after round since you come in on a high note rather than starimg at the FOR CERTIAN same coffee mug 5 times in a row. So yeah, just some mild behavioral modification, and manipulation.
@@ph33rc3donut0022 does that really matter tho?? I barely look in spawn when I respawn, I’m only there for like 2.5 seconds, maybe longer if I’m swapping. Just seems a bit excessive to have 12 spawn points😭
@evl952 im talking about when you FIRST spawn in. Having more THEN is what matters. Its more manipulative and less noticable than if you were given the EXACT amount needed to spawn a full team. And if you wanted to take it one step further, why would you need more than ONE spawn?? Just have the whole team stagger in, or more than likely we just phase through each other and solidify after.
On respawn, yeah, grab your gear and get back in the fight.
@@ph33rc3donut0022 just have it so its rng which of the 5 you spawn from and its good. If you memorize 5 spawn locations, then you need to touch grass.
The only thing the overwatch dev team is balanced in is making sure the hero’s, matchmaking and now the maps equally unbalanced
