Northern clubs tend to be the heartbeat of their cities. London isn’t the same, far more diluted and cosmopolitan.
Spot on
Big parts of London are more concerned about praying to their violent sky daddy.
20 different languages and nationalities as well @@JordiBoy_
Hence why spurs has substantially more fans in the uk than City will ever have 😂
@@mymemories925that’s alright we will have to get a trophy for every fan you have 👍
In London groups of friends tend to support a variety of teams. I am a West Ham season ticket holder, my wife is Arsenal and my best man was Spurs. In the North a lot of friends/social groups will support the same team so they 'build' to the match together all week. I first start thinking about the game a couple of hours before kickoff. That said London got some massive stadiums (West Ham, Arsenal, Tottenham) and they are full every week regardless of how the teams are doing, so you still got loyal fans.
rent boy

@analintruder1672 - yes we know, it's already in your name - doh.
@analintruder1672 Oh the irony
HOW IS IT ?
@@AreJayCee
There are probably more Southerners supporting Man Utd than there are in Manchester.
That'll be your bias talking. Let's see you data and current evidence for such an assertion.
Wow hardly a big claim 😂
South has approx 28 million people Manchester has what maybe half a million well done for assuming more of the 28 million people support united than half a million who'd of ever thought
Are you tryna be smart? London has like 15x the population of Manchester so no surprise that the biggest team in the country will be proportionally larger down south just on population alone 🤨
@@thomasoflaherty3520 You don't need data mate, as someone of school age in the sixties, living in London and supporting Chelsea, I can assure you
at school Man Utd were the most supported club, possibly influenced by the Munich air crash, I live in Cornwall now, far removed from London or Manchester
and many years on from the tragic crash and still I encounter more Man Utd fans than any other club
As a Villa fan the best away fans I have seen at Villa Park are Newcastle and Palace. Other fabases can be somewhat disappointing
You go the other week against Everton? You had no fans and didn’t hear you once
@@blueboy4life None of what you just said was intelligible.
@@ryancarlo9328 it’s a CZcams comment section not an english exam. Make sense of whatever is infront of you…
@@blueboy4life mate, what Villa Everton game are you referring to , the cup game on a week night on the day of a bus strike? Of course there weren't many fans at the game.
Sheffield Wednesday are the best fans for me and Football was born in Sheffield
The most passionate fans are North East and we never win a thing
A bit of a silly discussion really..Northern clubs have won the league 85 times, London clubs 21
on tv it seems very few of the 'bigger' london teams get much atmosphere, brentford & palace (west hams old ground too) you can feel it through the speakers, but spurs chelsea & arsenal the ground sounds empty some game
Remember Newcastle taking 12 thousand down to the goldstone ground Brighton teetering on the edge of relegation to 3rs division absolutely mental
The North and the South (Especially london) are vastly different on a cultural level. This is also represented in the passion of the fans.
Clubs in the south have generally become more family friendly, so the crowds reflect that. I know of hardcore fans being banned for barely anything.
Only 2 clubs have ever had crowds of over 30,000 in all 4 divisions and they are from the south. A lot of clubs in the south outside of London have barely won much at all compared to the north, but still have good followings.
Thats because most the clubs in north with a stadium over 30k has only ever played in top 2 divisions hah
If you want to see passion just look at any of the north east fans, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Sunderland have the best fans I’ve seen
Probably because there is nothing else for them to do up there.
@@alancawfield6549to be fair I remember players of these clubs saying they used to head down to London after games and stay their for the weekend as there is less to do in the north east 😅
Therefore they badly need to get themselves a life.
But all that Passion doesn't seem to have won those clubs many Trophies for a long time.
@@trevorsaunders580 Well that shows how passionate they are even if there not winning trophies they still support the team
In London they have other things to do 😅, yes Simon we in the north only have football whilst we eat worms living in a cave
I think there’s a lot more socio-economic nuance to this conversation that just “NORTH VS SOUTH” 😂 i think it’s more about classes, albeit the North is more working class than the South, but this isn’t an exclusive rule. West Ham is more of a working class team than say Chelsea. Crystal Palace is more of a working class team than say Arsenal.
Ultimately, there’s more similarities than differences.
You hit the nail right on the head.
Simon "priced into my thinking" Jordan 😂
Nowhere near as intelligent as he thinks he is. Any fool can make something complicated.
But he has to square that particular circle 😂
Simple Simon
It's true that northern fans are more passionate than southern, but that's not always a good thing. As a Southampton fan, I always thought that we generally avoided relegation every year because the fans weren't as bothered and so the players played with a bit of freedom. Newcastle/Sunderland/Boro's fans cared far more and that held the team back when it comes to the key games in April/May.
In key moments it just means too much sometimes.
Portsmouth fans don’t lack passion!!!
Maybe if you had a modicum of passion you're team wouldn't be playing in the second tier of English football.
@@Youngbuck83 third tier actually.
Unbeaten since March. I’ll take it!!
How'd that work out last season?
@@OLSKl. I was referring to OP
London: 2 UCLs, Midlands: 3 UCLs, North: 10 UCLs
No debate
Most of which we have 🎉
What's that got to do with this debate tho?
@@KellysHeroes777 fair enough 👍
@kipp1231 got everything to do with it the biggest clubs historically are in the North 10 European cups between them
Our interests are spread thinner down south as we have nicer weather, towns, culture.
If i lived in Sunderland all i would have is football.
And lots of lovely people in London
The Midlands and Northwest clubs started the football league.
From the south looking up, i just feel like there's more clubs and more going on down here. There's currently Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Palace, Fulham, Brentford and Luton all having "derbies"
Liverpool and Everton have eachother
United and City have eachother
Newcastle have nobody
Sheffield United have nobody
It may seem mad, but i think London clubs could just have too many rivalries to deal with makingt them feel less important.
What does derby matches have to do with who's more passionate North vs South?
I could just say all those northern teams bar City have louder, passionate fans compared to the south teams at home games. Chelsea and Fulham are like morgues. Arsenal and Spurs are dead quiet unless they're winning. West Ham is the only one I'll give a pass to. Great fan atmosphere at home games.
How many millions live in London?
Compared to the millions in Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds and other major Northern Cities? London still have a larger population. Though in the North with have other minor cities and major towns. Look across Yorkshire and not just Leeds and Sheffield. Huddersfield,Bradford, Rotherham, Barnsley, Hull, York etc Such a large area with everyone spread out.
Also got Rugby League to deal with aswell.
Far superior in the North. It's real.
No inter city northern rivalries? Ever heard of the war of the roses? Like I said, it's real.
London doesn't have 1 giant club every area has a big premier league level club palace in southern the 2 North London club Chelsea fulham west London west ham in east London
@@KittySofttpaws because it all becomes a bit diluted down here when there's so many "local derbies"
There’s 20 football stadiums in London, 21 if you include Wembley
Whats that got to do with atmosphere? With that many teams they have more chances of loud stadiums
@@docholiday-lm4vf Not really, the whole city doesn’t unite because of a singular team. In Cities like Newcastle and Leeds people who don’t even care about football whatsoever get behind the team when they’re playing.
@@f-zone_ The point still stands, the unity in Newcastle is unmatched anywhere in London
There's an amazing couple of book that explain this divide in terms of English teams and continental teams.
La Roja and Soccernomics, great reads.
Fun fact: London is the only capital city in Europe without a pro football club named after it.
Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh, Brussels etc...
Fun Fact:
The funny thing about fun facts is they're not always factual and rarely funny.
This is such a waste of breath. Manchester City has the money, Liverpool has the money, even Blackburn Rovers had the money at the time they won the PL. Chelsea won the PL because Abramovich had the money and spent it as he did. Whoever has the most money to make the transfers will win the PL, and yes, I am a long-term Spurs supporter. Nuff said!!!
What does that have to do with fan passion?
Liverpool had the most money when they won the league spurs were even spending more than us
Even in 2023 spurs are way more popular than man city in the uk and thats backed up by a substantially bigger uk fanbase?
Northern cities are grounded working class. There is a seige mentality in cities like Liverpool and Newcastle. That's impossible to compete with in London when the distribution of wealth is weighted so heavily in its favour. Football is a hobby for londoners. It's life and sometimes literally death in the north west
What a ridiculous thing to say. I live in London and no one I know supports a football team as a hobby. Every fan, wherever they are, and whoever they support, go through the same emotional roller coaster depending on their team's results.
In the South, the best atmosphere is at Crystal Palace.
Further north the best atmosphere is at Nottingham Forest.
The problem is that London Clubs such as my Club have more tourists buying tickets and the original locals have moved away so the fan base has significantly changed.
Some Northern clubs do indeed have great local support. However, I seem to recall Sunderland having moaned a few years ago about low attendances due to fans choosing to stay home to watch matches on TV instead. Oh, and let's not forget the Etihad Stadium being commonly referred to as the Emptyhad.
By rivals, lol. Hardly a metric to measure anything by.
Yes we know man City fans are less passionate than bolton, Liverpool and Everton!
Same with Wigan and Bolton. A lot of northern teams have low attendances
The “Emptyhad” is a myth
@@mymemories925Random inclusion of Bolton lol
Arteta spoke of Ramsdale as TenHagg spoke of Sancho! No debate here it's the mangers right.
Element of truth in this argument. Certainly Arsenal and Chelsea fans are a bit airy fairy. I think West Ham, Spurs and Palace have a very passionate support.
A lot of arsenal fans went missing last few years and only started watching again because they were in a title race. I know loads of them.
Spurs, West ham and Palace fans are there thick or thin.
palace XD
What insight do you have on Arsenal and Chelsea fans to call them airy and fairy, whatever that means, why not Spurs, are they your club ?
I have supported Chelsea passionately for 60 years through good and mostly bad, it's not all about the Abramovich years, what do you base
your assumptions on ?
@jameswiglesworth5004 to be fair Chelsea were never a bad side, a lot of people say that Chelsea only started in 2003 but even as a spurs fan I know that ain't true. Had some great players like zola, gudjohnson(spelling?), gallas, desaily and one of my all time favourite under rated goalies in cudicini. Unfortunately still finished above us all the time. I'm only 30 so before 98 I don't really know many.
I know the results haven't been the best under poch but what have the performances been like? I haven't seen more than a couple of highlights.
@@jamiehail5974 Fair reply, i go back a long way, I remember Spurs in the 60's and neither Chelsea nor Arsenal could live with them, then Arsenal had a period
of domination, then Chelsea under Abramovich, I fear for Chelsea at the moment, the new ownership appear clueless, money seems to be wasted on players
that are no more than Championship level, I am not a Poch fan and think they should have stuck with Tuchel, we are looking sound defensively and have improved
lately, I think we may get a draw against Arsenal.
End of season top four looks Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, and Chelsea, maybe 6th if they keep improving
you can tell by the songs alone that london clubs fanbase are not as passionate. "Arsenal ASEN-AL", "Chelsea ChelsSEA CHELSEA" the songs are horrific, fans are little fairies. northerners are harder. end of
"northerners are harder" Based on what exactly lmao.
Southern fairies and Northern Monkeys 🤷♂️
Based on nonsense been all over the UK the scariest people are Portsmouth and Cardiff for me....neither in the North

Yeah "City! City!" is a real classic. How'd they come up with that one?
Football and music is owned by the north.
Re Raya, my team AVFC have Martinez of course, WC winner, who allows us to play a high full press to commit further bodies forward, knowing he’ll stop 1-on1s 💪💪💪
I was with Simon untill he lumped the Midlands in with the North 😂
We have more in common with the north than the south
@@michael-zg5fq bare in mind you are in the south, the south is anywhere below Sheffield
Northern fans are probably more passionate! but as an Everton fan I think Crystal Palace fans are one of the best, winning or losing they never stop singing.
Half of Londoners support man united anyway so makes no sense to me.
A myth.
Its amazing how many glory supporters there are!
@truthhurts8924 95% of so called man City fans live over 2000 miles away from Manchester 😂
I don't really understand where this ends... I'm from Preston support Spurs, as do many, and I know others who follow Chelsea.
Elland Road is always rocking no matter what score or what league Leeds are in. No current Premier Club in London could claim this.
Absolute nonsense. Elland Road's atmosphere is basically a myth.
we only ave to watch England games at wembley there is no Atmospher down south move some england games where the real fans are
Not sure I agree, Etihad is the quietest stadium I've ever been too.
Its not just football, remember watching the old promoter harvey weinstein on the tv. Asked what the difference round the country is to concerts , goldstein said applause in London and South once up to Sheffield and Newcastle said audience would be dancing on chairs and screaming 😅
Harvey Weinstein? 😂
@user-dq6se6er8j meant harvey goldsmith 😆
English football in the past 20 years has essentially been Lancashire plus Chelsea.
I had a mate come over from Canada last weekend. We went to the Merseyside derby and he went to Spurs Fulham on Monday. He said the atmosphere at Spurs was soulless. The home fans rarely chanted anything.
Can’t just say north. Newcastle are the best away fans I’ve ever seen granted, but as a West Ham fan who goes home and away, all u got to look at is the 35,000 plus that travelled to prague to see that we are up there. All u got to do is see our away following on a mid week cup game to old Trafford when we’ve taken over 5,000 a few times in previous years. And when we was in the championship taking 4,000+ every away game
Currebtly London has seven clubs in the Premiership., so that means all London clubs, now have twelve derbies every year. The furthest distance between any of these clubs is less then 12 Miles . ie Brentford to West Ham and Crystal Palace to Tottenham. Neares rivals Fulham to Chelsea 1.4 miles.
Chelsea v Fulhaml
Luton might be a small club. But pro rata it’s a great atmosphere
London has tons of teams to support compare to other cities Fulham,Tottenham,Brentford,Chelsea,West Ham,Arsenal,Crystal Palace,Millwall,Charlton Athletic etc... all fighting for fans
The problem is the real fans of London clubs are being priced out and can’t get to the games most of the Arsenal fans now are fly by night and if Arsenal slipped back to mid table they’d disappear yet id be able to go again I was at Highbury when there was only 17000 I’ve been to nearly every ground in England
When we played at Wembley I remember being surrounded by middle class fans who would clap the opposing team!!!!!!! I mean FFS and they have infested Arsenal and Chelsea the worst
Football is in the North
I think the 2 superpowers man utd and Liverpool are in the North which makes a big difference
Here's an idea: let's do a North v South All-Star game 😅
Players would cry about playing another extra match.
Wouldn’t work
Excellent suggestion, Mr Bohley.
@@cov9290 why not?
Would just be Man City first 11 vs Arsenal first 11 😂
More passion more passion more energy 🎶🎵

west ham Vs millwall...
The big clubs are up north
Maggie thatcher got rid of the pits and ship yards so people in the north have nothing to live for apart from there football club people were proud to be pitman and ship builders now all we have to be proud of is are family and clubs
And people in london prefer to support clubs 200 miles away😂
People in the north have nothing to live for but football is a pretty bold statement.
Good point. It was the Steelworks in my hometown in the North East which was shut during the Thatcher times.
Why does Jim have to shout?!?!
But on the subject: United, Citeh, Liverpool, Blackburn
No lies told, they are more passionate
But I think some Cities need a football club more
All the London clubs could go into Liquidation and London would still survive and the money lost wouldn't go unnoticed
While other Cities need a club or they may go Bankrupt like England's second City
It’s not even an argument tbh.
If by north they mean Glasgow then yes the most passionate fans are in the north
They are talking about in the Prem. The Scottish Prem is a pub league, it doesn't count.
@@chrisbroadhurst3039 more passionate fans in the pub league than the prem

Agreed 100 % and I support a London club. But all support in this country is a joke compared to Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland and many other European countries who's fans are noisy passionate, sing and support their clubs win, lose or draw
100% agree with u all English fans are terrible compared to our European counterparts, can't blame all seater stadiums for the total lack of atmosphere either
Half the fans in London games are tourists.
What about Arsenal and Chelsea?
It's true. Too many LDN derby's. Meaningless.
Southern Clubs have mostly casual fans.
As Fan bases go in England, Newcastle andWest Ham are clear of the rest
Northerners have more passion and care about this Country more than Londoners
Must be a slow news day.
I agree glory hunters and fair weather fans tend to be from the South, there’s a reason why many Man United supporters are from the South 😂
North has more football towns and real fans. London is a tourist district,
There's generally less to do and less opportunities in the North, football is the only thing a lot of people know so it's not surprising
There is NOT a more passionate set of fans than the Green Army of Plymouth Argyle, they're incredible support when facing extinction saved thd club from disappearing all together years ago. And yet, it's the southern most team in the UK. It's nonsense! 🙄
More of an exception than the rule in fairness. Great fans though no denying that.
I HAVE BEEN A BRADFORD CITY FAN SINCE I WAS 3 YEARS OLD, I WILL BE 66 THIS YEAR. SO I HAVE FOLLOWED THEM FOR 63 YRS AND I AM PROUD TO BE. MY DAUGHTER AND GRANDKIDS ALSO GO TO WATCH B.C.F.C.... I STARTED GOING WITH MY GRANDFATHER AND ITS RUNS IN THE FAMILY. THE FIRST GAME ANY GRANDKIDS GO TO ITS ALWAYS WITH THEIR GRANDFATHER'S
And
Yeah but all the Media Attention and the excuses plus VAR-FAVORITE💲 Go South Only‼️🙄😆
West Ham, Tottenham and Palace all have top fans.
That's all down to biased refereeing .... Yootied at least secured 10 points last season thanks to a favourable VAR and Ref.
I see they started off talking about success.
In terms of success, The North West is the Powerhouse of English Football, always has been, always will be.
Even ignoring the likes of Blackburn who were founding members of the Football League, and have 3 Titles (1 in the PL era), Manchester & Liverpool have almost 3 x the Titles that London has. 57 Vs 21.
After the Chelsea game, if he’s not picked for the next game, that’s completely disrespectful and he’s then got to leave.
London teams play in more Derby games then the northern sides I think this plays a role
Foreign football fans are better in general anyway, every time I’ve been to a game with a foreign team they chant far more than English fans do
That's because they don't speak English, so they just shout a load of twaddle.
So 'price in' is the Lord of Mouth's latest catchphrase to be used ad nauseum.
better atmosphere, better songs, friendlier crowds, always been the same in England
This is such a pointless debate. Simon is right once again. No one in London cares if a club in London wins the premier league unless it’s their own.
Simon Jordain " from the day dot, Man U were the poster boys of the Premier league"
Understand that statement
Because at the day dot, it was Liverpool 18 Arsenal 12, Everton 9 , villa 7 , man U 7
So why does he State that Man U are the POSTER BOYS and most iconic,
Man U have been the top Ckub in England for 8 of the last 58 years
And currently its Liverpool like it has been for the other 50
So why are Man U the iconic Poster Boys ?
A rare moment for Simon to be right on the money

Football is too diluted in London. There’s what 14 teams in the prem and championship. Then more in the lower leagues. In the north football is all that have and at most the cities have two teams. Sure Arsenal probably have more fans in London than the other London clubs combined but still it’s diluted a lot.
