Question of the week candidate If there was any flatscreen game (pc, console) which one would you want to see in VR? Games that can modded don't count (Resident Evil, the first 2 Half-Life games, etc)
Somnium One sounds too good to be true but hey everything has to start somewhere so fingers crossed right! And those shoes look sic! def review them. But Would meta want to keep upgrading 12 if they have a q3 to sell? Good work dude!
Those VR shoes sound like a cool add-on if you live in a place that has limited space. That way you don't have to have the VR walking track (I'm not sure of the proper term) in the middle of your living room all the time or you have to take it apart and put it away anytime you want to use it. Hopefully they get the cost down and you don't trip when you use those. Hopefully with all the walking and stuff doesn't cause any disturbances to the user's neighbors or anything like that.
It seems like they won't last as long, could break easier, and also have to deal with batteries. I agree that they still seem great, but that's some major downsides. If someone wanted foot locomotion for VR for an arbitrarily long period such as 10 years, this option may end up costing more if it needs 2 or 3 purchases compared to just one static slideboard setup.
@@coolsans5097 as soon as the running and jumping parts are supported, I think we might have a few complaints from downstairs neighbors. In the inevitable event several users might overdo it. 😁😆🤣

An open source/modular HMD sounds like an amazing VR device, damn. Would be cool to imagine a future where VR is mainstream enough that piecing together your own HMD would be on par with building your own PC today. Great video, Thrill! Tuesday Newsday is always a good time.

CES sounds like it's going to have some really great updates for the VR world. I'm especially excited about the open source developer as it adds a new aspect to the community.
Anytime a company boosts the overall performance of their hardware it usually means one of three things. 1. They flat out stable overclocked it which means less battery life and a shorter half-life 2. Pipeline method, figured out a better way to route data or how it handles data ultimately increasing performance 3. chipset was safe clocked to begin and now it is just set to its normal clock meaning the chipset was downclocked by default which can offer better stability. Obviously I do not know which method was used but in general these are the usual suspects when it comes to hardware magically getting better with a software update. There are others, for instance they found a bug and fixed it which increased performance.
Going to need a ceiling strap pretty soon to keep people from falling down. Imagine you have treadmill shoes, and haptic feedback gloves, and you go to lean on that rail you're holding on to. 😅
@@nightfall4434 i don't even care about the meta/facebook games. as long as the hardware is ok, if it can run the oculus store games/software and can connect to a PC then that's good enough for me. what i really want is a lighter headset with maybe 20-30% higher resolution and better FOV.
@@mariuspuiu9555 true, higher resolution would definitely be an improvement Games like beat saber already look good and run at a good frame rate, I think it’s just about optimization
A case to be made for location based VR in my opinion is choreographed experiences related to real world objects and the multiplayer aspect. It's not as easy to find several people with headsets, put them in the same physical location, and then initiate an shared space VR game. When I went to Area 15, it was pretty immersive going with my friends! We went through a cave, and I had to find a 2x4 and drag it over to make a bridge for the rest to physically walk over on. It had smells, heat, and a Jamaican "voice of God" live experience that was really fun to interact with as he gave us hints. I think the experience is kind of short for obvious reasons, but I do see a lot of potential use cases to further enhance immersion as well as make the experience easier to get into.
When it comes to location-based vr, I always wonder, why don’t they do something like Void Vr did with custom vr maps that would overlay over physical environments one to one. Being able to do something like parkour or fps games in vr, actually feeling the walls you crouch behind or platforms you can jump on, and walls you can actually touch without your hands just going straight through them.
The Void was incredible and it seems like they're disappearance has created an opportunity in that space but I guess no one with the money is willing to invest in VR like that right now.
@@PointfulOkapi A proper Void experience would be pretty expensive and there are cheap VR arcade experiences where it's basically just an empty room where you can walk around and play roomscale experiences but there aren't any attempts to replicate the virtual space in the real space. What might be nice is something in the middle. It doesn't have to be quite as elaborate as The Void with the heat, haptics, physical guns you can pickup and use but at least some walls and basic props to make it a bit more immersive.
@@user-on6uf6om7s yeah, I feel like with a couple of walls and boxes, maybe it would be nice. The main trouble would be that you would need custom maps and calibration which would mean a dedicated team for each location. With most public vr rooms right now it doesn’t really need as much calibration because you’re just in a room, and “custom games” can be shared amongst locations. There is far less scalability for custom experiences because the experience will usually depend on the layout of the building you have and your budget as well as just general safety constraints.
@@PointfulOkapi Yeah, I think one good solution would be rooms with rows of mounts on the ground that would either be flush with the ground or covered when not in use so that you could walk over them without tripping but could be used to mount temporary walls in a variety of different configurations. That way, a single room could be reconfigured for a different experience every day or maybe even multiple times a day. It still wouldn't be as configurable as most VR arcades where you can just come in whenever you want and play a dozen different games but it would be easier than The Void where they needed specific layouts with lots of elaborate props for every different experience.
It's a Tuesday Newsday that's on a Tuesday! And what a newsday it is! I'm totally looking forward to hearing more about Somnium over the next week, and of course the new HTC and PiMax headsets.
7:30 ahahaha I'm loving this new wave of questies tbh, TonboBattlefield is no longer a dead vrchat world 24/7 and I've been able to actually enjoy that game again!
Re: the location based VR, I've always wished for a location based go-kart game where one person drives and the other shoots. Probably in custom stationary rigs, because I doubt anyone's gonna insure kart drivers strapping something onto their face. Outside of the rigs I don't think it could offer _too_ much you can't get at home, though I do dislike the racing sims I've played with the lack of any wheel to grab onto. I'd love to go from looking at this barebones cockpit to putting on the headset and seeing it recreated 1:1 in a war-kart.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's already VR go-carting, since it's actually probably quite safe, just a but difficult to do due to such a large area (would have to use inside-out tracking which seems to be more of a proprietary tech to work with, making it difficult to develop for a business).
I was given a new Quest 2 this Christmas which was great because my OG Quest 1 had been failing to the point where I couldnt go into 95% of vrchat worlds due to lack of ram, the storage was nearly filled with beatsaber custom songs, and many apps were slow and crashed often like VRChat and Pavlov Shack Beta. I have seen a lot of kids on though. Gorilla Tag was filled with newbie lobbies and a ton of kids however in that case it was actually kinda nice. I remembered Gorilla Tag being excessively toxic so the newbies kinda changed that

Having worked in Location Based VR in the past, I can confirm that the money and time required to get anywhere with LB VR is so large that unless you are from the get go looking into producing/using tech that cannot be replicated at home, by the time the product comes out, it will already be partially outdated, making it a very hard market to keep up with.
jeez i remember years ago about the hype with the quest 2, that when i got it! and now so many new vrs and updates are coming out, its so cool to follow and to see where vr takes us in the future. i wonder what 2023 brings us in the vr world.
Ngl, I’m really looking forward to that etee controller review, even if they’re not the best product out there it’s cool to see some competition finally popping up!
I like that since the whole bonelab incident, you've toned down your expectations for a lot of vr hardware and software and are being more critical of each thing that you talk about.
Those freeaim shoes, VERY interesting, there were something very similar a few years ago, but they were MASSIVE, like wearing shoe boxes strapped to the underside of your feet.
Arcades might still have a market for unique stuff like you said. Biggest would be use of real props, heat and environments that bring haptics to life in a way that in-home might be prohibitively expensive. Went to a VOID place, their use of real objects and heat lamps to provide haptic sensations was next level. Home haptic devices are getting better, but cant beat a stage that has the matching props, doors, and railings as in-game. AR/VR prototypes starting to show up on the other hand... possibility of bringing your own environment or digitally masked version into the game, might give that same experience someday or in next gen devices.
For location based VR, look up for EVA (E-sport Virtual Arenas). This is a French Start Up specialized in location based VR for e-sport and which is collaborating with HTC. During the 2022 Paris Game Week, they demo'ed their new system using Wifi 6 to connect the players's Vive Focus 3 to to a computer outside the area. (Above it I think.) And they demonstatred it with a 500 square meters arena.
another juicy TN. thanks for the upload thrill, glad to see freeaim getting a little coverage :-) also stoked about somnium one HMD - i just wish somnium space app was a little less cringey. gotta take the good with the bad i guess 😒
Do you think HTC will bring the eye tracker add on to the Pro 2? HTC released the new add on for the focus, but I'm curious if they will bring it to the Pro 2 since the Pro Eye has been discontinued.
I think a hybrid between the shoes and the catwalk maybe the way to go. I remember you saying something about having to lube up the catwalk shoes, shouldn't need to do that with the wheels. The shoes could be changed/powered wirelessly via a coil in the catwalk floor. Maybe even have this extend up wires attached to your legs to power other devices. You could get the benefits of both and it don't seem like any of the downsides would be made any worse.
Definitely interested in giving the shoes a shot, even though I imagine they’ll be pretty pricey still. I don’t have the room for a slidemill (and certainly not for a real omni treadmill). It’ll just be a matter of how well the CV actually works in practice.
We need to get some true motion compensation in the oculus when it comes to platforms I have a dof reality motion platform for sim racing and it’s a blast except when the sway and traction loss features put you in the passenger seat or out the window when high g turns happen
I would love to see more advancements in stationary physical locomotion. As somebody who uses VR as an exercise routine, some games I enjoy like Skyrim VR, would be a lot more fun a lot more engaging, not to mention a lot more exercise, if I was physically walking in the world.
I can barely remember the first time I tried vr, but I remember the feeling of being so immersed that I forgot that I was in a game. I’ve been looking for a way to get that feeling back, and so far I’ve been unsuccessful.
QOTW: Have you heard of Manual Redirected Walking? Redirected Walking has been a thing since 2005, but users now are doing it with just joystick turn and real movement(walking). You might have seen it VRchat where it goes by the name of "Infinite Walking" or "Role-Play Walking". I've even done it in Half-Life: Alyx! 16km total, although with many issue that game has with MRDW. I believe that it has the potential to be a real game changer for locomotion. Only playspace size and the lack of awareness of this locomotion is the issue(and maybe the cable too).
@ThrillSeekerVR, many thanks for talking about the VR shoes, it was a nice surprise and I'm also probably the last to know about it 😄 I connected with you on Discord, lets talk about testing these VR Shoes!
Curious if they have a VR arcade shooter... like the alien shooter games you would see with the plastic rifles and such. The location-based VR thing you showed reminded me of it. I have a VR game that allows you to play old console games but requires a controller or keyboard to play instead of VR controllers... VR controllers would be difficult to use, but it would be nice imo. Would be nice if someone made a VR game that just had tons of Arcade machines you could walk around to and play... maybe even make it like a virtual arcade that other players could join.
I just got a Quest 2 for Christmas and it’s been a really LONG time since I felt like a little kid opening presents in the morning. Been having a blast with The Walking Dead and wondering what other good shooter games are out there. Best Christmas ever
I've encountered a similar issue with link cable but it just doesn't load me into vr, it's possible that my cable is just garbage as I've had it for like 3 years now and it's a 16ft cable, but the pc app often just removes my quest from being seen from what I've noticed
Thrill, I'm really really really curious what will be Your first impression (if im correct) about psvr2 on CES. If You will be able to try it of course. Share it with us please....
I wish I got to try The Void's Star Wars experience. I've done some location based vr stuff from Ubisoft, the Far Cry and Assassins Creed experiences, but nothing pushed like what the Void was doing.
Hey thrill, I have a suggestion for a video that is really big for people on a quest 2 budget that want full body tracking. Theres an app for the IPhone called "PinoQuest" it can also be used on a pc as well. full body tracking for 17$/year. Even has finger tracking and its pretty good.
Well I get the idea with the shoes, but I feel like I'd definitely fall over, so the slide mills harness is more in line with what I'd want, also the running.

I'm finally on time! Please keep making these videos 💛 VR means alot to me and I hope everyone here has a good day 💕 That's all I wanted to say!
LOL working in VR under deadline, i usually don't have time until the next day. Overclock!? What a good one to be ontime for ; ~)
I like that since the whole bonelab incident, you've toned down your expectations for a lot of vr hardware and software and are being more critical of each thing that you talk about.
Those freeaim shoes, VERY interesting, there were something very similar a few years ago, but they were MASSIVE, like wearing shoe boxes strapped to the underside of your feet.
I hope to see you at CES
Just woke up on my day off to this :)
Less goo Tuesday news day
Arcades might still have a market for unique stuff like you said.
AR/VR prototypes starting to show up on the other hand... possibility of bringing your own environment or digitally masked version into the game, might give that same experience someday or in next gen devices.
omg yes, ive so been waiting for vertigo 2 to come out hell yeah
This was a really great one! I guess because it was mostly good news hahahaha. Thank you as always Thrill
Very nice a upload
Always wanted to try an Omni directional treadmill
I got a quest 2 for christmas to replace my rift s that broke last year, i'm loving wireless pcvr
That Star Wars Void experience was still one of my top 5 VR experiences I’ve ever had tho
Great video as always bruv
I can't wait for the somnium headset! I just want it to release already!!!!
Do you think HTC will bring the eye tracker add on to the Pro 2? HTC released the new add on for the focus, but I'm curious if they will bring it to the Pro 2 since the Pro Eye has been discontinued.
Have you seen the new update to Labworks, boneworks on quest, added some new lighting that looks really sick!
Dude you deserve way more subs
Because you've been in VR before. Your brain adapted to it.
Melatonin bumps the immersion, but only until makes you pass out. So like a 30mins.
With the delays to the Pico4 review you are just hyping me up xD
Got VR and now thinking about creating game.. Not expected such immersive games :X
Thriiiill when can we hear your music on itunes?
QOTW: Have you heard of Manual Redirected Walking? Redirected Walking has been a thing since 2005, but users now are doing it with just joystick turn and real movement(walking). You might have seen it VRchat where it goes by the name of "Infinite Walking" or "Role-Play Walking". I've even done it in Half-Life: Alyx! 16km total, although with many issue that game has with MRDW. I believe that it has the potential to be a real game changer for locomotion. Only playspace size and the lack of awareness of this locomotion is the issue(and maybe the cable too).
Loving the vr improvements. Can't wait for full dive! Lmao
Finally it’s on a Tuesday
Wait, where’s that location based vr thing you were doing with friends, cause there was one in my home town that looks a lot like that
When Tuesday Newsday is actually on a Tuesday
I just got a Quest 2 for Christmas and it’s been a really LONG time since I felt like a little kid opening presents in the morning. Been having a blast with The Walking Dead and wondering what other good shooter games are out there. Best Christmas ever
population one
Can't wait to have my face more heated than it already is with overclocking.
Those shoes look amazing!
I've encountered a similar issue with link cable but it just doesn't load me into vr, it's possible that my cable is just garbage as I've had it for like 3 years now and it's a 16ft cable, but the pc app often just removes my quest from being seen from what I've noticed
This video was mind blowing!
Thrill, I'm really really really curious what will be Your first impression (if im correct) about psvr2 on CES. If You will be able to try it of course. Share it with us please....
Dude that meme break sent chills down my spine with those freaking dances.
Tuesday newsday my favorite day of the week ^^
I wish I got to try The Void's Star Wars experience. I've done some location based vr stuff from Ubisoft, the Far Cry and Assassins Creed experiences, but nothing pushed like what the Void was doing.
When i heard fast walking instead of running, for some reason, i feel like the next hands-on videos are going to be epic! 😂
babe wake up its tuesday newsday
Hey thrill, I have a suggestion for a video that is really big for people on a quest 2 budget that want full body tracking. Theres an app for the IPhone called "PinoQuest" it can also be used on a pc as well. full body tracking for 17$/year. Even has finger tracking and its pretty good.
Always 💕 these vids
LETS GOO NEW VIDEO : D
Well I get the idea with the shoes, but I feel like I'd definitely fall over, so the slide mills harness is more in line with what I'd want, also the running.
I can’t wait for the index 2, I’m still using an old rift S and I want to upgrade cus it’s one foot in the grave but I don’t want to buy an expensive index if there’s a new one around the corner
Blessings 🙏 it be on a Tuesday 😁 lol but seriously keep up the great work 😃👍
