  • Hello and welcome BACK to TUESDAY NEWSDAY! Well, except this episode is one WEDNESDAY! This is actually a really crazy episode of TN, probably one of the most action packed TNs yet. PSVR2 has launched, cheap full body tracking is on the way in the form of Stonx, a cheap way to increase faux FOV, the US taking VR actions as real.. and most importantly the legitimate popping of the VR/ XR bubble. Meta laying off employees, Pico is in deep trouble, Microsoft exits VR etc etc oh also The Quest 2 maybe coming to **ina!

Edit: adding to this after reading every comment. If your takeaway from this video was negativity or some “doom and gloom”.. I think you should really listen to this video again. This is a very positive message. The facts are a lot of XR attempts have failed. Now we grow from it. Much love.
A lot of people aren't going to like this and are even going to try and discredit this claim, but they are wrong and they are lying to themselves. But THIS IS GOOD FOR VR LONG TERM. just watch the video before you comment about "clickbait" This is kind of a huge deal.
Microsoft is leaving VR Firing 10,000s
    Tencent is out of VR
    Meta firing 10,000s

This kind of makes me happy. I was part of oculus launchpad 2018 and 2020 for a dev grant, a lot of people thought we were going to win both times and we didn't for whatever reason. I put a lot of the blame on our production skills, but this makes me feel a little better to know they make a lot of strange choices, so maybe that was it. Another company mentioned in this video reached out to us to port a game too, and I've wanted to port to their headset but life... We're actually updating a game to put it on their headset and this video is lifting my spirits. It’s not the end of VR industry, it’s the end of the megacorps first incursion into the industry, now it’s when some bright nobody will see how to crack it, followed by another nobody, and then slowly but steadily, the metaverse will start to be, kinda like what how the original Oculus came to be. Cause that was suckerberg’s folly (although he’s such an imbecile, that anything is his bane), he thought the “metaverse” could be “owned”, and it’s also why megacorps CAN’T produce the “metaverse”. “Ownership” in the way this corps want, kills the creativity necessary to craft new worlds.

Oculus/Meta will be the cream of the crop. I’d bet my life on it. As long as they don’t cave to pressure from investors. Established companies that have known the industry always win. If you want to invest in any smaller company it should be HaptX. Force feedback is the future and they’ve been on the bleeding edge for a while now. Look at all the suckers that invested in those treadmills. It was obviously a bad technology. Their only profit is selling to shitty VRcades that shut down in a couple months. VR domes might also be another good potential investment but that’s a bit risky.

    • @Syntax58

@@Crittek I absolutely agree with you on that, but investment wise I think they've all had their massive growth spurts and are now just idling so to speak, they may have more growth again but nothing like the boom that they've already had, the recent events in the industry have just opened up a nice opportunity for the smaller companies like Thirdverse and 17Bit that are bringing new ideas and strategies to the market. Also HaptX like you say is definitely one to be following, and yeah the omnitreadmills were just terrible, not even the vrcades near me bothered with getting them at all XD.

With all the bubbles popping, I hope we will see a more healthy and streamlined VR market in the future. I hope Valve will continue its commitment and support to SteamVR and the Vive. Being an HP Reverb G2 owner I am actually quite terrified about both HP and Microsoft pulling support. I mean, if a controller breaks today, it will actually be REALLY hard to find a replacement, and If MS stops supporting WMR reality, what will happen to headsets like the G2 when PCVR continues to innovate? In a perfect world, HP would make a SteamVR driver for the Reverb G2, hence bypassing WMR. But since they are pulling out as well it seems highly unlikely.

Almost everything these days do. Wall Street is just a huge pump and dump scheme at this point, and the viability of the tech doesn't really matter anymore, it's all about riding the wave of hype and hopping off at the right time.
It's always been like this, but people grew accustomed to just betting money on random stuff rooted FULLY in hype during the crypto era. Lots of investors just bring that mindset to actual stocks and invest on the hype rather than the tech.
This is going to be a trend going forward. Investor hype is often disconnected from reality, so when we see a market pop we might think VR is in jeopardy, but it's really just investors losing a lot of money on yet another inflated investment field.
It was VR, then AR, then the Metaverse. Chances are it's going to be VR again pretty soon.. They're just waiting for the waves to paddle onto. They have no idea about the tech, and they don't need to know, they need to know what other investors are going to do with the hype.
This is why Bloomberg is so useless in terms of being a barometer for the success of VR. It's a hype machine that also spreads FUD in a major way to drive stocks as low as possible so people can get back in for the next wave... Misinformation and market-hype manipulation all day long just to massage the waves or some other better analogy than massaging waves.....

It was going to happen regardless, just not to the extent we're seeing. Microsoft doesn't even do VR, and they laid off a TON of non-XR devs and employees recently.
It sucks, but the world is getting worse.
      Real world gets worse...

I just got my PSVR2 today, and Gran Turismo 7 on it is amazing.
The game looks great on the 4k OLED displays, and the interior of the cars have so much detail.
Also, it even utilizes the head haptics so every time you hit another car or bump into a rail, you feel it.
I also tried Kayak VR for a brief moment directly after setting up the headset, and it's gorgeous. The environments look so real, and with the controller haptics, you can feel the water on the kayak paddles every time you row them.
Coming from the Quest 2, the PSVR2 has slightly higher FOV and resolution, and while there is the smallest amount of screen door effect, you'll never notice it unless you look directly at it.
The OLED was instantly noticeable, it looks amazing. Also, I think the biggest upgrade is the comfort, the headset is so much more comfortable than the Quest 2 because of the lighter weight, the headstrap, and the rubber face gasket.

I think Meta is done with games. Their next Quest is heavily centered around MR, the most useless tech ever devised. Also very expensive tech, so the HMD is either getting a bump to 499, or the gaming features will be toned down heavily and resources diverted to cameras for passthrough. I believe the latter is true. Either way, games is not a major part of Meta's strategy. If it was, they would spend some of those 10 billion dollars on games rather than spending it all on the metaverse... But they spend nothing on games, and their metaverse is garbage... AND their gaming showcases are just brutally depressing.
Spent 100% of my VR time since the Q2 came out playing the Q2... No interest in the Q3 now that I have the PSVR2, a proper gaming device with a purely game oriented purpose. The Q3 is going to be LESS of a gaming device than the Q2.. And Meta doesn't make games...
Q3 is going to make the Vita look like an amazing success.

Everything we have done up to this point has been focused on games but Meta got greedy, they didn’t just want to make hardware they wanted to try and monopolise the VR world. You know how Facebook has Facebook dating, and market place etc. A bunch of garbage no one uses?

I suppose it all makes sense when I really think about it. After I bought the index, I fell deeply in love with VR, and I was sharing my excitement with everyone, and I don’t think anyone I’ve talked to about it has ever shared my excitement. Even people I know who have VR headsets, they don’t really use them like I use mine, it’s kinda a novelty to them as opposed to a consistent form of entertainment. Even people who play video games regularly don’t use their headsets regularly. I do think VR is just too different, and most adult are generally resistant to change. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? I imagine kids who play VR are a lot more open to it and excited by it, but kids don’t have money to spend, so their opinion won’t matter until they start making money. I imagine the VR industry will have stable slow growth for a few years till the kids who enjoy it get into the consumer market, and then companies will see that demand increase substantially.
For me personally, I rarely use my index right now because I live in rentals and have barely any space for VR. I am going to buy a house this summer and make sure to set the VR up in a room with substantial space, but I imagine most people who enjoy VR may be in a similar situation to me, not having the space to fully enjoy it. So it’s also possible if the housing bubble crashes, and people can get houses for a decent price, VR demand could go up.

    • @SunArau
      @SunArau Před rokem +1

Main reasons why people dont care about VR in current states are garbage controls and lackluster games. Overpriced gear doesnt help either, but its not main problem, if first two were great.
For example, hand controls can be fixed by making a VR gloves instead of that garbage sticks, yet leg movement will never be fixed, since you either run/jump/roll into a wall/people/TV/window or if you use that strapped platform you still gonna be limited directions. Not to mention that 75% of gamers are probably not exactly fit for that type of activities anyway.
Basically all of above results in very clunky controls, limitations, lacking basic gameplay games on top of big price. I guess until someone will figure out a real VR headset or VR pod like in all those VR mmo korean books, it always gonna be a rather small niche.

On top of that, it also works as a generic gaming rig, a programming rig, or literally anything you can imagine doing with a processor because *it's a PC*. Meanwhile the PSVR2 costs ~$550, alongside the ~$500 needed for the PS5 (totaling over $1000 dollars, around the cost of my current PC without the inflated prices), and can only play games. Specifically, it can only play games that are made to work for the PSVR2, whereas most games made for any system can be made to run on PC because *it's a PC*. it’s not just the meta verse bubble but the entire economy is crashing. almost every single company rn is scrambling to lower prices and fire their employees. you see twitter firing people tesla lowering their prices for cars by up to 20%, even netflix making subscriptions cheaper.

Ngl I fully blame Meta for this. I haven't met a single person, at work, in passsing, at concerts, clubs, etc, that doesn't think everything meta has put out in terms of advertising is horrible. I know you said they they "were overselling vr" but pretty much everyone I know, says it looks terrible. It looks like sims 2 with no legs. I show them VRChat, I show them how the Index works, and they go "wow, had no idea that it looked like this! why do I only see meta on tv?"
They have made VR look like a cartoonish, low fidelity joke.

They didn't shut down Echo VR because they didn't have the resources for it. From my understanding it was still profitable, they just thought it would be better if they spent the resources elsewhere.
Personally, After the Quest Pro, Workplace, and Horizons, I have no idea where Meta thinks they should be spending resources.

(sorry for bad english) I stand with you here. The vr industry has seen a lot of growth for the past two years regarding the whole metaverse thing and nfts. Honestly, it feels much better to no longer be related to that kind of stuff. Also, the quest 2 had artificially enlarged the sales that the vr industry made just by making a really cheap headset, thing that made people think that the only thing you could do in vr was to play low-poly, bad graphics, low performance games. I'd really like to see a growth in the PCVR industry with things like full body tracking, eye tracking, hand tracking... As long as there is a demand for things, people are going to be invested in them. So, my dear vr users, no matter the headset you have, the only thing that matters is your passion for this industry!
