I'm happy to see so many people talking about Echo VR in the comments. I only ever played with my friend's headset because I never had one myself, but I stayed up late playing Echo VR at his place, and one highlight for me was I was struggling with my technique and some stranger I don't know was talking to me about what to do. All the while I was clinging to some cube, floating in space.. and for a moment, I was REALLY there, in space. Fully immersed by that subtle, real interaction in a way that I don't think playing a story-based game could fully trick me into believing. Anyway, that was one of my absolute TOP VR experiences, and I'm sure playing the game a lot and getting very competitive made the experience even better. Reminded me so much of the game they played in the book Ender's Game.
Sadly I've actually met people who tried VR and think it's overrated. I can understand it for people who might get VR Sickness, which will only get better as VR gets better. But I feel like some people really haven't given it that much of a chance.
That’s why it’s up to us to just simply enjoy it and let them know they’re missing out The problem will be if Vr goes the way of console with battle passes and all of that
@@waterbottlecrinkle6973 VR will have to go down that route to compete, battle passes exists as a way to own your attention, and if someones attention is fully on console, its not on VR
There's always those who can't adapt to new technology. I'm sure there are a lot of people who died believing that automobiles were just a fad. That they had too many limitations to ever replace horses.
I think VR/AR as a society altering advancement is a pipe dream. I see it as a neat toy, and a very niche tool, and nothing more. No way people are going to wear goggles everywhere they go.
I really enjoyed my experience with echo VR the little time I plaued it before getting into other stuff. Actually got somewhere in the arena without needing to do massive practice and everyone seemed to be having fun
Thrill talking about exploration of VR and AR reminds me of when my It teacher argued with me that he doesn't believe that VR (and software for it) is an unexplored area of everything. Almost didn't let me pass the final exam because I started arguing with him there. He never even had a VR headset on his head before.
echo was my favourite game oat. i met some amazing people there, i met my best friend there and we've met up twice. me and my team were really sad and telling stories as the countdown clock ticked. rip echo. it will live on in my heart forever.
I know this is late mentioning it, but I totally love the revamp you did for the intro. The Knuckles power-on chime is such a nice "IYKYK" touch, for the fans and whatnot.
RIP Echo. That game got me thru so much in my life. Thank you, Thrill, for acknowledging us and our sport. Our community. Thank you, for having our backs. 😢
Being able to recreate the epicness of the Yu-Gi-Oh solid vision tech shown off in the anime has always been a wish of mine too. Just imagine going to YGO tournaments and being given AR glasses to wear so that when the players duel, the monsters show up in full animated glory. Would be amazing both for the actual duelists and spectators. You could even add popups for things like card stats and effects so that information is easily obtainable without having to pick up and read the physical card.
One company that's doing something even better than Meta's varifocal lenses is CReal. They're using something called light-field projection/display (I don't remember exactly). It does away with lenses and screens, and beams the light directly into your eyes. It naturally creates a 3d image without the need for motors or moving lenses.
I would love to see an X-Com game in VR. Walking around your base, shooting down UFOs with your interceptors, going on tough missions with your team, and playing the strategic layer of the game from your command center. Your squad AI would have to be excellent and respond to voice commands, but if done right such a game would be an amazing experience.
You're a man of culture for saying you'd love an Overwatch VR port. Overwatch is such a shell of it's former self these days. Such a shame. I can only hope one day it gets back to it's former glory. And glory it was. Overwatch launch might be my favorite time in gaming ever. I was a bit TF2 fan and was skeptical on OW but as soon as I played the beta on a friend's sons Xbox for like 15 minutes I was sold. Overwatch was just such a polished experience that was basically universally adored with such a high level of polish. Every event was amazing with a ton of new content and it was so fun. I miss those days. I don't really play it anymore but I met so many cool people through Overwatch. It was such a one of a kind time in gaming where nerds and normal people all felt aligned with love for something haha. Here's to Blizzard one day figuring it out. Their fall from grace has been historic and it feels like they may never bounce back. But I hope they can prove me wrong.
I got to try Echo 2 times before it shutdown because I finally got a quest 2, and I gotta say, it’s indeed an amazing game. I can absolutely see how people loved it. It’s like VR Wii Sports Resort. Having a hell of a good time while getting some good exercise and meeting people that have a passion for this video game… It’s sad to see it go. Remember. Long Live Echo, and Fuck Zuck
Fun fact regarding the Roblox thing; a year or two ago, in 10th grade, I made a rudimentary vr horror experience for my comp sci class. The funny thing is that despite have to massively cut back on some features, I got vr working, set up a jumpscare, conditional lighting, door triggers, a (super basic) lockpick system, and flashlight. It was even good enough to spook some of my classmates! TLDR; Roblox vr being introduced to meta’s store is a pretty cool prospect, and I can’t wait for the more talented players to make some legitimately cool stuff.
Yugioh in VR would be dope! Imagine going around trading cards, battling each other, and then every so often there are tournaments in an arena where people can watch, participate, and even stream the matches. Make it cross platform so PCVR, PSVR, and standalone VR can all play with each other.
The butterscotch would probably be great for remote surgery training. I suspect a lot of robotic surgeries in the future will be done with VR headsets and something like the butterscotch would probably work great for it. I'm personally still wanting a bigscreen VR, for it's ultra-low weight. Since weight is the biggest issue for me.
i played Echo VR once, and instantly fell in love. i would have bought a Quest 2 the next day if i knew it was gonna stick around, and i had literally a single spare dollar to save for it. Thousands of active players? THOUSANDS? Titanfall 2 kept running deep into a literal hacking takedown, and now has a selfhosting mod. 1000 players is a party. and Echo had that everyday.
If you're looking for a fun vr tcg to try, Cards and Tankards is super similar to what you described, is free to play, and has a really great active user base
My "2D game" i'd LOVE to see brought to VR is the chill game, Slime Rancher, its perfectly suited for VR, with its slime-grabbing gun, its light parkour and jetpacking, and exploration. It's overall cozy vibe would make for a really fun and enjoyable VR experience.
actually writing a paper about optimiziation in vr just now and this release has caused a stir in my review. VAC with eye tracking, currently locked to 1.3m, i think we will see a vari-focal over multifocal first but if we can use lightfield rendering it solves the problem by the very nature of the rendering
I would imagine that their vari-focal solution with the Mirror Lake prototype is the way forward. Having a heavy mechanical varifocal HMD which could easily break with lots of jumping around would be a no go. The problem is cost and the complexity of manufacturing. Apple is running into this issue now. Oddly enough I think Meta's multifocal lightfield tech may blow Apple's current upcoming solution out of the water. I could accept the bug eyes. It looks rather interesting.
More excited for "Flammera" than "Butterscotch," honestly. I don't personally hold things up to my face all that frequently, having 1:1 or close to 1:1 pass-through will enable a ton of productivity apps and more immersive content.
omg hey wait, thrill is a YuGiOh fan ???? this isn't exactly what you described, but I did make a YuGiOh dueling vrchat world at least !! it's called Duel Cafe, and it lets u build decks and play by holding physical cards like you would irl (: (duel disks are also planned btw) it's got a whole lil community and I'm rlly proud of it so far, and I think u might like it maybe possibly hopefully (:
this isn't a promotion attempt btw, feel free to never talk about it ever. i just like sharing it with as many ppl as I can bc I know every YuGiOh fan ever has been waiting for something like it, and people always get so excited when they first join it (':
you should try DMVR its basically a fully VR Yugioh experience with deck building, prebuilt decks, a solid progression, and even tourneys, honestly the only thing it's missing if you ask me is player-to-player card trading or deck sharing, but it's a small team running it, maybe give em some love, they would love it and do it all for free so deserve the hell out of it!
Oct. 2021 purchased an Oculus quest 2, had no idea VR moved beyond phones against your face. First game launched and played everyday for a month, was Echo VR. RIP Echo VR.
It is a great pleasure to be a part of this tech. For now, all I want is watching a movie without eye strain and playing games that has good graphics. But it always gets better with eye tracing, hand tracing, suits and more. I can't wait to see SAO IRL
Well you can solve the graphics part with PCVR, but yes the next generation of headsets will finally have the resolution and display quality that I will be willing to use them to watch movies in a virtual theatre etc, excited about that, in the meantime I'll be using my Pico 4 just for games via VD to hold me over
I was calling it flam-era also (like a Final Fantasy spell) until I read on the blog that it’s short for ‘flat camera’ so it’s actually said fla-mera. Anyway exciting tech, great upload as always. Take it steady.
I'm glad that meta didn't just give up on VR because of the Flop that was the meta Quest Pro, I know a lot of companies that feel discouraged after a single hard fail like that. I don't necessarily like metal but they're helping propel VR forwards.
In 100 years we will get contact lenses connected to the cloud without latency that have the same resolution as the rods and cones in the eye. Able to perfectly emulate any type of reality. I will be probably dead by then but atleast I get to see it develop.
I've never in my life played echo vr. But i hoped that when i would get my headset i could play it. But i guess not META. The game looked really fun and i would have defenately been a player every day if i had a quest 2.
Hey @Thrill, just wanted to say, that I really do enjoy your content. I find myself going through difficult situations with a lot on my mind. Your content is something that I know I can watch, enjoy, and learn new things that are relevant to me (as a VR Dev), as well as I know I'll be getting good, well thought out content that will give me some new insights and things to think about, so just wanted to share that with you incase you run upon this. Thanks for providing good and useful content that helps me clear my mind while still staying productive in my daily life!
The immersed Visor headset is literally a spacial computing headset then. I kinda like it. (Even though i hate it that spacial computing is a trend set off by Apple, i do like that this headset is specifically made fot it, good for the hardware devs) Wow! A light field based passthrough!? That's so cool! (Although it's a meta testing headset, so meh)
My first two weeks of VR were purely echo VR. The VR headset was either running echo or is charging, no in between. I got used to VR and got rid of motion sickness in echo vr. It's the only game i recommended to every friend that for a headset

ikr i just noticed there's been nothing recent
@@koffeekaelist Next video will be 29th August. From his Twitch:
"Hi! I'm Thrill!
I started streaming on this channel 4 years ago. It was always my absolute DREAM to be able to stream. I truly love it but I pushed myself a little too hard with too many projects and actually stepped away from Twitch for a while. It really actually hurt me almost every day I didn't stream. BUT!
I am JUST NOW coming off of a very long break! SO! After almost a year, WELCOME TO Thrilluwu 2.0!
I will stream as much as possible, but my usual streaming days will be after I post a tuesday (or wednesday) newsday. I'll be figuring out a schedule soon!

Same here. They won’t try it more than once because they didn’t like it the first time.
That’s why it’s up to us to just simply enjoy it and let them know they’re missing out
The problem will be if Vr goes the way of console with battle passes and all of that
@@waterbottlecrinkle6973 VR will have to go down that route to compete, battle passes exists as a way to own your attention, and if someones attention is fully on console, its not on VR
No way people are going to wear goggles everywhere they go.
thank you for being so vocal about echo, it means so much
I really enjoyed my experience with echo VR the little time I plaued it before getting into other stuff. Actually got somewhere in the arena without needing to do massive practice and everyone seemed to be having fun
The best VR channel right here, thanks for keeping us up to date!
The plan has to be for Echo Arena to show up in some form in Horizon Worlds. Which would be fine but they should have announced that first.
Much love Thrill!! ❤ Glad you took some time for you! Made my day to watch your video 😊
the prototypes are wild, like. A good wild but it looks good!
Thrill talking about exploration of VR and AR reminds me of when my It teacher argued with me that he doesn't believe that VR (and software for it) is an unexplored area of everything. Almost didn't let me pass the final exam because I started arguing with him there. He never even had a VR headset on his head before.
It funny how people who never tried something have all these hot takes about.
@@sonicsnake44 it's always the people who have no idea.
Rip echo Vr the most underrated game
echo was my favourite game oat. i met some amazing people there, i met my best friend there and we've met up twice. me and my team were really sad and telling stories as the countdown clock ticked. rip echo. it will live on in my heart forever.
RIP Echo. You opened my eyes to the possibilities of VR.
Cyberpunk 2077 is the flat screen game I'd want in VR.
I've *never* seen a more visually captivating world in any video game than Night City.
It could be a really interesting way to breathe life into card games. Imagine epic Uno 😆
Horizon could not start perfect , neither can VR . Everything takes time to get better . Good video 😎
One company that's doing something even better than Meta's varifocal lenses is CReal. They're using something called light-field projection/display (I don't remember exactly). It does away with lenses and screens, and beams the light directly into your eyes. It naturally creates a 3d image without the need for motors or moving lenses.
You know it's good when it's on a Tuesday
its a wednesday homie
@@KahootSucks perfectly missed opportunity for "It is Wednesday my dude"

I would love to see an X-Com game in VR. Walking around your base, shooting down UFOs with your interceptors, going on tough missions with your team, and playing the strategic layer of the game from your command center. Your squad AI would have to be excellent and respond to voice commands, but if done right such a game would be an amazing experience.
Damn, that echo vr stuff hit me in the feels, even though I never even played it
Me too lol
Love the mechanical actuators on Butterscotch. Looks wild, if nothing else
Echo Arena: gets shut down
Thrill: I'm off, bye!
Horizon worlds is like internet explorer turning into microsoft edge, still a little sus🤨
R.I.P Echo VR, It will be missed, but I'm glad I can stay on my non-oculus headsets now
#SaveMemeBreak
The R&D side of Meta sounds awesome! Never heard of it before. Hope they do great things.
RIP echo.
I agree, a trading card game like Yu-Gi-Oh! would be amazing to see. Thanks for the video
6:17 If they manage to miniaturized both techs and increasing the focal, that would be the best device.
RIP Echo. Thanks for the shout-out
Always a good day when a Tuesday news day releases
I got to try Echo 2 times before it shutdown because I finally got a quest 2, and I gotta say, it’s indeed an amazing game. I can absolutely see how people loved it. It’s like VR Wii Sports Resort. Having a hell of a good time while getting some good exercise and meeting people that have a passion for this video game… It’s sad to see it go.
Remember.
Long Live Echo,
and Fuck Zuck
This man always brings joy to are Tuesday

I've never touched VR yet, but I put my name next to Echo... Rest in peace Echo, I hardly knew you....
Where you go thrill? Haven't heard from you
Great video breakdown man! I really appreciate all the work you put it to your videos. I wish you the best dude ❤
Rest In Piece, Echo VR. you well be remeberd
Love your vids man
Don't ever apologize for talking about Echo just for the people who never played it. They honestly missed out.
i played Echo VR once, and instantly fell in love. i would have bought a Quest 2 the next day if i knew it was gonna stick around, and i had literally a single spare dollar to save for it. Thousands of active players? THOUSANDS? Titanfall 2 kept running deep into a literal hacking takedown, and now has a selfhosting mod. 1000 players is a party. and Echo had that everyday.
Oh I love light field displays! Always hoped they’d become big in vr
If you're looking for a fun vr tcg to try, Cards and Tankards is super similar to what you described, is free to play, and has a really great active user base
We will all miss you echo VR
My "2D game" i'd LOVE to see brought to VR is the chill game, Slime Rancher, its perfectly suited for VR, with its slime-grabbing gun, its light parkour and jetpacking, and exploration.
It's overall cozy vibe would make for a really fun and enjoyable VR experience.
i find it funny that i got recommended this within the first 12 seconds it was posted
actually writing a paper about optimiziation in vr just now and this release has caused a stir in my review.
I met one of the avatar designers in echo one time and he was a really cool dude. I hope he's doing well right now
Digimon World VR would be a killer game. Kaiju vs kaiju style fights that get progressively more insane
The valve knuckles sound in the intro 0:05 gives me a heart attack every time, I swear.
Great video Thrill!!! As always!! I'm really going to miss that game😢echo! Thanks for the video.
More excited for "Flammera" than "Butterscotch," honestly. I don't personally hold things up to my face all that frequently, having 1:1 or close to 1:1 pass-through will enable a ton of productivity apps and more immersive content.
loved the NeRFs at the end
rip echo my beloved
omg hey wait, thrill is a YuGiOh fan ????
this isn't exactly what you described, but I did make a YuGiOh dueling vrchat world at least !! it's called Duel Cafe, and it lets u build decks and play by holding physical cards like you would irl (: (duel disks are also planned btw)
it's got a whole lil community and I'm rlly proud of it so far, and I think u might like it maybe possibly hopefully (:
this isn't a promotion attempt btw, feel free to never talk about it ever. i just like sharing it with as many ppl as I can bc I know every YuGiOh fan ever has been waiting for something like it, and people always get so excited when they first join it (':
That sounds so cool.
you should try DMVR its basically a fully VR Yugioh experience with deck building, prebuilt decks, a solid progression, and even tourneys, honestly the only thing it's missing if you ask me is player-to-player card trading or deck sharing, but it's a small team running it, maybe give em some love, they would love it and do it all for free so deserve the hell out of it!
Oct. 2021 purchased an Oculus quest 2, had no idea VR moved beyond phones against your face. First game launched and played everyday for a month, was Echo VR. RIP Echo VR.
13:30 totally agree. YuGiOh is amazing!
Man, this room temp superconductor really is everywhere. Hopefully that means that it might be a common thing soon
RIP Echo Arena. Games coming out today WISH they had the numbers Echo did, and Boz just nuked this for seemingly no viable public reason.
Awww man this stuff is so awesome!!!
The ending was a tear jerker
Every time you put up a echo vr clip my heart ached and you talking about echo made me shed a tear
(Even though i hate it that spacial computing is a trend set off by Apple, i do like that this headset is specifically made fot it, good for the hardware devs)
Wow! A light field based passthrough!?
That's so cool! (Although it's a meta testing headset, so meh)
I appreciate the clips used from a trip in the forest :D
My first two weeks of VR were purely echo VR. The VR headset was either running echo or is charging, no in between. I got used to VR and got rid of motion sickness in echo vr. It's the only game i recommended to every friend that for a headset
I've been following VR since 2016 and have never heard of Varifocal. How many holy grails does VR have?!?!
