  • Day 41 thru hiking the Oregon Desert Trail. Today's hike connects two beautiful areas in the Owyhees, as we hike the miles between majesty. The hike out of Lambert Rocks this morning was really nice. Once on top of the very flat plateau again, large and impressive rock formations loom on the opposite side of the canyon in a unique and intriguing way. But soon they fade, and it's many miles of cow-infested Sage Kansas. We come face to face with cows all day as we compete for the same water. It's hot, and not the scenic Owyhee Canyonland adventure I envisioned. But then, the landscape changed as I reached Willow Creek. Suddenly, there were deep and jagged canyon walls, a bit of flowing water and the sunset light was shining just right. I set up my tent tonight in this beautiful canyon, knowing that I sit at the gates to something great. Tomorrow...

The vastness and beauty of Southeastern Oregon is amazing, love seeing it through your lens.

Lovely birdsong! I used to have a bull snake as a pet as a kid, nice snakes, docile and gentle; we named her Julia Squeezer. Also had some fox snakes, but they were a bit more skittish. Glad you enjoy them and don't harass them out in the wild! I hate seeing videos of hikers harassing or even harming wildlife.

Snakes don't bother me at all! I don't know why people are so afraid of them. Especially the docile snakes, like you said the bull snake. I think they are cool.

That sure is stunning! Great how you’ve managed to capture the diversity of what on first sight is an endless sage desert. I so regret not venturing out into the desert more when I visited Oregon six years ago.

Hopefully you got to see some other great landscapes instead while visiting Oregon. We can't see it all, unfortunately. The more we travel, the larger that bucket list grows, even though we are checking things off as we go!

Had a lot of OK campsites, on the ODT, but this was one of the better ones. That sunset, I remember this one!

That looked like a mourning dove egg. They are notoriously sloppy nest builders.

Sloppy nest builders, sounds like the culprit! Missed the mark on this one
