    the reveal of hardin writing the after book gave me the wildest idea.
    what if, all these movies were revealed to be hardin's unreliable retelling of his and tessa's relationship? in reality, tessa moved on after the sex bet, and he's been harassing her ever since.
    the next and last movie shows the real story between them, where it's revealed that they never got back together, most of their hookups never happened, and it's all been hardin stalking and manipulating tessa, trying to ruin her career and relationships, for years. it ends with her as a bestselling author, happily married to trevor with a family, and hardin an unemployed, alone, unloved alcoholic. it finally paints hardin as the looser he really is- a childish, abusive asshole who cant get over his first college girlfriend.

    I hate seeing characters think loving each other is enough. It's not only immature but stupid. When I was 12 I asked two family friends who were dating and were super toxic together, why they fought. They both acknowledged they brought out the worst in each other, but when I asked why they didn't break up they both said they loved each other and they knew the other was a great person, when not with them. Even at 12 I realised love isn't enough for a relationship. It creates part of the foundation but it isn't enough alone and sometimes if you truly love someone sometimes the best way to show that in that situation is to walk away.

    • @Lisa_Flowers
      @Lisa_Flowers Před rokem +16

      I mean it's all pedantic to some degree (depends on how you define love), but I don't think the issue with their relationship was that love wasn't enough. You yourself admit that truly loving someone is wanting what's best for them even if that doesn't include you. Their lack of willingness to let each other go even when they knew it was for the wellbeing and growth of the other person shows that what kept them together wasn't love. It was an unhealthy attachment.
      Toxic relationships are often addictive to be in, because the highs and lows of fighting and making up and fighting and making up kinda resemble the dopamine rush of experiencing a high and then crashing and then wanting to get high again to stave off the pain of the crash. At some point people get so tangled up in each other and in the emotional responses the relationship creates that it gets hard to leave and define yourself outside of them.
      That really isn't love. People often confuse emotional intensity and attachment for love, when it really isn't. In that case i'd say 'intensity' or 'attachment' isn't enough to sustain a relationship. There has to be a layer of actual care about the human being, not just how they make you feel and that you want to be close to them. Love necessitates things like communication, empathy, and effort to make things better. Even then it isn't enough alone to sustain a relationship, but I don't think in the case of your friends (or the 2 movie characters) love was the issue at all.

    Hardin and Tessa are so toxic. Both are wrong her for not letting go and him for being a controlling, violent. abusive, pos. I just don't understand how anyone can see this as a healthy relationship or want anything like this. No woman should have to fix a man, it's not our job. • @Lisa_Flowers
      @Lisa_Flowers Před rokem +32

      To be fair to Tessa - it's often really hard to know, at least in real life, when you're in an emotionally abusive relationship. It's obvious from the outside, and maybe more so in cases that are really extreme. But abusers are really skilled manipulators, and will often make their victims feel like they deserve what is happening to them, like it's their fault, or often even gaslight them about it, pretending like the victim is exaggerating or imagining things. They'll break down their self esteem, isolate them from their friends, and make their victim feel dependent on them - either that they'll never survive without them, will never be loved by anyone else, or never be understood or validated in the same way. They'll abuse them and give an emotional apology, appeal to their trauma as an excuse or to make you feel sorry for them, and make the victim feel like their saviour, which boosts their self esteem.
      The effect is even stronger when the victim experienced abuse or mistreatment in childhood, and the abusive behaviour seems less abnormal - because growing up it _was_ normal. This seems to apply to Tessa (with her dad being similar to Hardin, and her mom being a manipulative controlling creep in her own right). The girl probably grew up with all sorts of shitty behaviours being normalised to her, so she's less equipped to see her relationship with Hardin for what it is.
      Now - that said, Tessa did her own fair share of toxic shit, and she's responsible for it. But I wanted to point out that abusive relationships often aren't experienced quite as black and white as they seem on the outside. It is psychologically confusing to be in an emotionally abusive relationship, and on average it takes most people _multiple_ attempts to leave. So really, Tessa can't entirely be faulted for struggling with that. Far too often abuse victims are stigmatised for being in these relationships or struggling to leave them when it isn't entirely their fault - these relationships are _designed_ to trap you and be difficult to disentangle yourself from. It's hard to even _know_ you're being abused. Trust me - I have an emotionally abusive parent whose been that way since before I was born. It took me till I was 19 years old and living away from my parents to realize that I had been abused at all. All of it had just seemed so normal up until then. Thank god I didn't get into an abusive relationship in college, because it probably would have been very difficult to get out of.

    I did't work in After myself but I know 90% of the people who did and apparently it wasn't that bad. Also there have been movies getting made here for ages. All the expendables apart from the 1st one I believe were filmed here, Conan the Barbarian, Kung Fury 2, 300 the second one also the last Hell Boy movie, Rambo etc...
    And yes they are alll bad movies :D
    Something I would like to mention is that most of our movies get made in less than 4-6 months, the standard is around 2-3 months (without counting post-production). We work 12 hour shifts 6 days of the week. And because of the short time we have to prepare and the amount of work we have, a lot of the movies don't end up being the best they can.
    Also a lot of the time movies (like Hell Boy) have nice scripts that we almost always have to cut down or simplify due to lack of time and mainly budget.

    I keep seeing trailers for this while watching TV with my mom… to her it seems like I’m just randomly shouting obscenities at the TV for no reason.

    How is this story getting so many movies? The only good thing coming out of this, is that Amanda making videos about it makes me happy 😊

    So the abusive asshole gets the adjacent to her dreams and becomes more powerful and suddenly manipulative and continues to use her for sex and won't let her go. This.... is a mess

    The title of this movie alone annoys me lol. It should be called “After Ever After”

    Am I the only one that kinda loves the title? A lot of the time they talk about how they expected their love story to be like one for the books, but as the title suggests it’s always instead been backwards and messy. A perfect fairytale ends with Happily Ever After, but After Ever Happy suggests it’s not quite there for Hardin and Tessa. It would’ve been extra symbolic if the mess ended at that, and they finally FINALLY left each other like kinda “after everything they were finally [for]ever happy without each other” but … that’s not what happens o___o I hate when a good title is wasted on content that doesn’t deserve it!

    How does this author who is apparently a fan who wrote an entire novel about marrying Harry Styles, have a lower opinion of what he might be like as a romantic partner than I, some random guy who does not care about him at all? For the record I think he seems like he'd be kind of self absorbed, but I don't think he's a violent, abusive, lunatic.
