Truly and really, Arsenal should use the midfield that they used against City; Partey, Rice and Odegaard.

We should give the development of the squad ten games before we make hard and fast assessments this season. Agree that Viera looked really good at the weekend. Happy for him. He needed that.
If we don't improve in those 10 games, we would drop 6 and will not win the PL. You going to play this same plan in the CL group stage? How many points do you think we can drop in CL. He needs to come out until they figure out how to fix the issues already found. Havertz come off the bench.

Don't risk it. Just play Partey, Rice, and Odegaard, when that midfield gels, we are almost garuanteed to beat almost every team in the league, with the exception of City. The team picks itself.
Uncertain why we're not playing ESR at the LCM role. He looked sharp during pre-season and has the potential to be a fantastic creative outlet for us
because you can't just throw people out of the cold into a role that significant when Arsenal is already tweaking the system this much. the players are still people who need time to acclimate to new ideas.
Right but by that logic Havertz shouldn't play there either. Someone has to do it, the options are Havertz, esr or viera. Right now, Havertz clearly isn't the best choice.
Havertz and Vieria are probably better defensively. ESR really wants Odegaard's position.

Zinchenko massively improves arsenal going forward, really balances the team right and left but once again weak in defense
Weak yes but it was never too much of an issue in the first half of last season. Saliba got injured and that was when it dismantled

Can't defend crosses as well. Gives up height, strength and speed. At least with Kai, Kai gives you height and strength to defend crosses into the box,
Yes he gave a horrendous ball away again that led to corner. He gets smart assed when it's inappropriate (up near the end)
Great video as always Dave. It is time for Vieira and Smith-Rowe to shine. No way Havertz is even close what them two can bring to the team.
Should Be Partey CDM and Rice In 8 IMO.
Vieira is very talented but less of a physical presence, for the early period of the game it would lessen our grip on midfield to play him AND Odegaard IMO.
Vieira great to bring on at 70mins when opponent is tired and we need an injection of pace.
How Partey has gone from being in the conversation of beat CDM in the league last year to not even being on the pitch is blowing my mind!!!
Vieira has the capability to be our Bruno Fernandes. Intelligent player with a great technique. Maybe he is a bit low on confidence because someone like Havertz keeps getting a nod over him. I loved how Fabio came in and turned the game on the head 👌🙌
I would make the argument for Emile Smith Rowe should be starting.
Vieira will be key for us this season
Havertz should be coming in 2nd half when we are already leading. He can come in to help us slow game and delay time.
Neither should be starting.
The midfield should be Rice -Partey - Odegaard.
*talks about Zinny and Gabriel coming on to improve Arsenal against Fulham and says* "Arsenal instantly improved their attacking play. They instantly improved how they were opening up Fulham." But Gabriel wasn't brought on against Fulham, it was Vieira & Zinchenko. Perhaps it was a bad editing cut. But, those attacking changes resulted in Arsenal getting scored on in addition to Arsenal scoring goals, because it weakened us defensively to swap back to the back 4 structure instead of the back 3 since Zinchenko is prone to an error at LB & you sacrifice midfield control by removing the 2 outside CBs from that build-up.
Says Zinchenko is just better at inverting than Partey, but statistically Partey was better than Zinchenko in a lot of defensive categories. Even if we exclude the number & go by the numbers per minutes Partey was outperforming Zinchenko in a multitude of defensive categories. For instance, they both lost possession 9 times (bad Zinny led to a goal there). So if we're going to say Zinchenko is better, we need to know how. Where Zinchenko stands out is his key passes and crosses. He's more attack-minded as a playmaker than Partey. Which, that's completely fair and why it may feel stilted on offense with Partey playing RB, but Partey isn't really inverting much either. He & Ben White have relatively the same heat map except White gets further forward. Some of that may be because of that attacking part later in the game, but it could also be that he was overlapping in the first half as well. White is being asked to play more of a John Stones role than a RB role. Because if Arteta wanted that overlapping runner, Arteta could have used Tierney & swapped Saka & Martinelli. It doesn't seem like that's the goal here. It seems like the goal is to prevent counters and suffocate teams with control by controlling the wide areas more. Because this back 3 system is not the same system as last season. Average starting positions very clearly show it's a different structural formation.
This desire to resort to the system of last season, the same system that was exploited by several teams is so baffling. Especially when we keep using the same parlance to discuss it when the systems are doing different things. And the scapegoating of certain players makes no sense either. Well, it makes clickbait sense. But seriously, the first 4 games are undefeated and they are testing out a system against low block teams. We have the first international break next week. These first 4 games are the perfect time to test things out and make the adjustments, before going into the break to tweak and come back out. Pep does this every season and everyone accuses him of tinkering and overthinking, but the man won the treble. So maybe it's just a solid strategy for working out the issues and adapting.
Not like we havent tried it last season. Didn't work. We have to play much more linearly and aggressively with Nketiah up front for starting Viera to work.
Facts. Viera x Odegaard is a poor pressing structure however maybe Rice can compensate

If you are going to put Gabriel back in as CB, Havertz’ position is the one that needs to go to the bench which then leaves no room for Vieira. So that doesnt make any sense….

ESR got 10 Prem goals in a single season. When did Havertz or Vieira do that?
The 21/22 Season, ESR scored 11 goals across all competitions. Havertz did 14. And Chelsea then decided to move him up to CF for some inexplicable reason. They're both on par with one another with Havertz having a slightly higher output. It's not the results that's at issue, it's the profile and where that profile fits within this team.
I said the Prem, stop trying to move the goal posts @@nicklikethesoup. "Higher output" is 8 goals in the Prem compared to 10 that same season. Havertz has never hit double digits in the Prem.
Fabio had 14 assists and 6 goals at FC Porto and now is warming up a bench at Arsenal? The most skillful and with the most imagination in that squad. Fans are saying he doesn’t have the physique to play defense for Arsenal. The guy is an offensive player not a number 6.

I came up with a solution in my head. Esr should come on and ball for 65 minutes then kai finish. Odegaard play 65 minutes and rest for fabio that's how to fix a match and keep it running non stop.
Partey should be the CB to allow White overlapping and assisting Saka. In the Fullham game, white had overlapped once and it was great

Last year everyone crapped on Vieira, even though it was clear he was adapting to how we play. 1 year later everyone is hyping him up, but now crapping on Havertz. It's unbelievable how fickle some of our fans are. Most of them have 0 clue what it actually takes to manage a football club. Their only experience is placing a 300m bid for Mbappe on Fifa 23.

If we play Zinchenko then it's either Rice plays the left 8 or we bench Partey. I wouldn't encourage leaving Partey on the bench though. He's possibly the best at what he does.
Vieira hasn't won a dual at Arsenal yet. You definitely didn't watch us last season. Vieira was hiding when given minutes. Still hopeful for him but he still will get totally bullied if he doesn’t have space

Anyone who doesn’t understand why Arteta keeps playing Havertz and actually went out to buy him is wasting time trying to lecture us.
Can we respect Arteta please! He turned Odegaard into something nobody expected, next was Xhaka, White, Martinelli, Saka, Zinchenko… and we led the season for about 95% of the league last season without a deep quality in the squad.

Timber who everyone thought is a RB/CB played at LB and shined! We play three defenders now with Partey who played RB at Atlético now doing it for us but in a different way!
We have the Rice Partey dual play, and Havertz/Odegaard relationship in the no8/10 situations.
At times Havertz is no9 holding up play or pivoting for others to play around him!

Benching havertz doesn’t mean giving up on him. He needs time to gel with the squad and get his confidence back, but he should not be starting over vieira, ESR, trossard. We should not be sacrificing PL matches to try to get havertz a bit of confidence. Give him more time in training, and cup matches, and have him come off the bench for a bit until he starts showing what is necessary to be starting.

We tried fabio in midfield, he gets bullied like a ginger kid with coke bottle glasses.
Fabio won the pen and made the assist before Fulham went down to 10, so idk why you’re saying this as if he was going up against a bunch of scrubs who were down to 10 men for the whole match… Fulham aren’t a bad side, mid table quality. the red card was around the 82nd minute, and Fabio was on in the 60th with Eddie (pen and assist came in the 70/73rd minute). Edit: Fabio came on with zinny, not Eddie who came on at half time. If this type of performance doesn’t earn him a start then what does? Did you watch the match? It was clear that he offered a lot more than Kai. I’d still go with partey-6 and rice-8 against Man U but havertz shouldn’t be starting over Fabio atm.

Again, Fabio showed more in 30 mins than Kai did in 2 and a half matches. He’s earned his chance man, you just sound like you want him to fail. I haven’t been the biggest fan of Fabio but he’s still developing and he was the best player on the pitch against Fulham (along with Eddie). Stop with the needless hate and let the kid prove himself.

Its completely different when you start then it is coming on in the last 30 mins vs a team thats 1-0 up on us. Imo play fabio as an impact sub in the prem and give him starts in the cup games in ødegaards role. And play him alongside big duel strong partners in that midfield so he is free to roam. Thats the recipe for him to be a success at arsenal, not in a physically and defensively weak partnership in the prem.. and certainly not vs united who we know will play dirty man to man.
