I’ve been realizing that the only hardware I actually play on is these two. Being able to dock to a tv or monitor is nice but 90% of my time is spent playing handheld. This makes sense based on my (and many others’) childhood on the game boy, as well as the level of phone addiction we all have.

honestly, I think just emulating everything makes sense, and buying the games and ripping them if you want to be ethical about it. I can’t justify having a full fledged console to have a worse experience on 90% of the games I like on it.

Just got my OLED Steamdeck today. Unbelievable experience so far. Had Fallout 4 remastered downloaded and was able to play within minutes after setup. Such a good introduction to PC gaming. Wouldn’t have gotten one if it weren’t for you. Thanks for the recommendation, keep up the good content. Big ups to the fresh brews as well.

I love the Steam Deck. I practically use it every day or almost every day. When I leave the house, it’s usually my iPhone SE and Steam Deck that goes with me. While I do love my Vita slim and Switch Lite, I don’t always have the urge to play them.
Since getting the Steam Deck back in February, I gamed more these last three months than my previous 15 years. I already have over 120 hours playing Final Fantasy VII Remake. Add another 30 hours for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and another 40 hours for Shenmue III.
I’m currently trying to platinum FF7 Remake but I heard recently from a CZcamsr that trying to plat Rebirth is a nightmare! Not worth it he said. He said it took him over 200 hours to plat Rebirth while Remake was only around 70. And the level of difficulty goes way beyond hard mode and with tedious mini games.
Once I get Rebirth for Steam which could be by 2026, I will not attempt to go plat for it. I actually don’t believe getting plat for Remake is really worth it either. It’s to feed my ego. I didn’t grow up during the trophy era. Once I beat a game and saw the end credits, I was done with it. I don’t want to waste another 50 hours on that game.
Since I already have 56/63 achievements for FF7 Remake Intergrade, I might as well complete them all to get my first platinum trophy for any game. The six tasks I have left for getting plat on Remake…..
Hit every big box (Materia Mavern)
Complete hard mode for the base game
Complete hard mode for the DLC
    Beat Ultimate Weapon
    Beat Ultimate Weapon 2.0
    Beat Weiss
I will probably save Weiss and the Pride & Joy ones last. Still only have 11 of the 18 levels completed on hard mode for the base game. And none for Yuffie’s yet. After I’m done getting platinum for FF7RI, I may attempt to go plat for Shenmue III. I’m reading it’s easier and only takes about 30 hours to go plat.
Something about playing Final Fantasy VII and Shenmue games that I’m so familiar with, it’s like being at home and doing chores. The OG FF7 and Shenmue II on Dreamcast and Xbox are my top 2 favorite games of all-time. Their music has this great ambiance when playing them.
As disappointing of an ending and story that Shenmue III had, it might actually have the smoothest gameplay of the trilogy. The mini games are funner. No annoying walking on a catwalk/plank like in Shenmue II where if you fall, you need to completely go back to the start.
After I plat Shenmue III, I will probably play Uncharted 4 next. I still have hours and hours to play on the Deck. I’ll probably have over 1000 hours playing video games before the year is over if I already played 200 hours for it after three months. From 2008-2020, I doubt I accumulated 1000 hours from playing video games.
I usually play my Deck for about an hour or two almost daily. Then sometimes more when I get home while it’s charging. It’s also great for watching Pluto TV if I’m too tired to play games. I’m trying to go plat on FF7RI but I’m doing so at a leisurely pace. No rush. I no longer have that OCD or huge ego to care if I go plat or not.
    *ROG* *Ally* *X*
What do you think of it? Just seems like new hardware for CZcamsrs to talk about but is it really that exciting? My excitement actually comes from getting the first Ally used for $250 like I did for my 512 GB LCDeck. I’m determined to get an Ally with Z1 Extreme for only $250. But of course, I still hate Asus. Never had a great experience with that Taiwanese company.
I’m aware how people’s microSD cards gets ruined from the Ally but I have no intention putting one in it. I’ll only be using the internal storage and don’t plan putting a lot of games on it. I actually prefer the Legion Go but if I see an Ally for dirt cheap, I’ll get it. It’s smaller too. It is overkill to own a Deck and Ally, but since the Deck might be too weak for FF16, I might as well get an Ally if it’s dirt cheap. And I do need a Windows device again to do certain things I can’t on Linux.
Ally X seems to be a battery life upgrade which is needed as who wants to keep playing AAA games for only one hour? But I wonder how much? It might go up in price like the Deck OLED did. While a used original Ally will have a fire sale on OfferUp and can be bought for under $300 this summer after the Ally X gets released. Wait after June 2 to see last year’s Ally selling for dirt cheap on OfferUp. Just make sure you’re getting the Z1 Extreme.
I honestly don’t know if getting a Windows PC handheld with Z1 Extreme is worth it though? Yeah, it’s more powerful than any version of the Steam Deck, but it’s not like the PS5 era has brought a ton of games for us to play. I feel AAA titles died with the PS4. The first AAA title was the OG FF7. Then AAA titles died after the FF7 remakes. Who has time to wait that long for AAA titles?
FF7 Rebirth’s sales are disappointing for a few reasons. This game should have NOT been a PS5 exclusive in the first place. More people owned a PS4 in 2020 than a PS5 in 2024. But what softens that argument is Rebirth is selling less than FF16 from last year. So it’s not solely because it’s a PS5 exclusive.
The other reason is maybe it is tough to market a direct sequel and not everyone loved Remake with some divisive narrative choices they made? I’m currently trying to plat Remake on the Deck and it can be quite tedious running through hallways. Hence, why I still prefer the OG. It flowed better as a game and it’s easier to pick up and play without thinking too hard. Can spam the buttons.
Remake’s battle system can be quite fun but I can understand some fans from the OG who didn’t like Remake not liking it’s very complicated nature dealing with stagger and ATB fill ups. A lot of gamers who played the OG have become more casual with games. They got families to raise. No time figuring out some complex battle system.
It’s a shame too because I really do want to play Rebirth but refuse to buy a PS5. My favorite part from the OG was Disc 2 when the characters finally left Midgar. But what can we do? Square made a few errors like making it a PS5 exclusive and some gameplay/narrative changes that didn’t sit well for some OG fans.
Is having the power close to the base PlayStation 5 while on the go even worth it anymore if this 9th generation has killed AAA titles for good? What’s the point? Those AAA titles are getting way too expensive like making a blockbuster movie and they take too long to wait on them.
There’s this overstatement that we’re experiencing a crash. No, we are not. The video game industry is far larger than it was back in 1983 when the Atari 2600 dominated homes. The future for console gaming are PC handhelds that can also be docked to a TV or monitor. We’re not heading into a crash. It’s not all gloom and doom. No games will be buried into a New Mexico desert. We own too many games we would probably never ever play.
It’s 2024 and I haven’t enjoyed playing video games this much since my PS1 days. Forget PS2, my PS1 days from 1996-2002 when I beat dozens of PS1 games. While gamers have complained about the lack of good games from this gen, we are currently living in the greatest era of portables/handhelds. We’ve come a long way since the Game & Watch and Tiger Electronics handhelds prior to Game Boy.

I love the era we’re living in now with handhelds like the Deck. It amazes me how a Switch Lite can be that small but have more power than a PS3 and Wii U. It started to get good for us by 2017 thanks to the Switch and emulation started getting really good by 2019 and good on Android by 2021. Why would I want to go back to the 80s through 00s for my handhelds? PC handhelds are closer to the specs of the bigger home consoles.
Anyhoo, long live the Steam Deck. Going to play my games now. I’ll get the Deck 2 when it arrives. The Switch 2 will be my secondary handheld behind the Deck 2. Only used for Nintendo titles. Then I’ll have a Windows PC handheld for the sake of having more power and having a Windows PC again. But I’ll always remember my first Steam Deck fondly for changing my life. Greatest handheld I’ve ever owned.

The Deck has a form factor very reminiscent of the Atari Lynx version 1.0. Which is what instantly sold it for me because that is the one handheld gaming unit I have owned that really felt perfectly sized for me. I'm a big guy. I also like the switch but the native joycons are way too small so I bought an aftermarket cradle to make it feel more "Deck-like."

I agree! I’ve completed more games on the Switch and Steam Deck over the last two years. I’ve gotten a bit bored with the Switch tbh….so I’m hoping all these rumors are mostly accurate for the next Nintendo console. There’s still games I’m absolutely looking forward to on the Switch. But it’s obviously not as magical as the first three years of its life.
So, depending on what the next Nintendo device does. My favorite is still the Steam Deck right now.

I still buy most games digital because most of my gaming is done on pc/steam deck, but for the games that I think are really special to me personally I want to get a physical copy as well just for the sake of it. Yeah if I really love a game, I got and get it physically on my ps5 as well to preserve eventually (once it goes on like a sale), don't really buy physical for Xbox since I think they still have DRM issues even though they have improved it, still DRM worries on Xbox, unless a game is only on Xbox and PC which right now, that barrier is breaking....

I watched Linus rank many different consoles and there were six consoles that made S-tier…
    Super NES
    Switch
    Xbox 360
    PlayStation
    PlayStation 2
    PlayStation 4
I actually wouldn’t argue with that although I would take off Xbox 360 and might put PS4 on A-tier. Between that six, my all-time favorite is PS1. I played it the longest (1996-2002). I beat the most games from that library. I was ages 15-21. Again, I’m a December baby. I was a sophomore in high school when I first got a PS1 back on Sept 2, 1996 (Labor Day).
By the time PS2 came out, I was working and had a gf that I was sorta growing out of playing video games the same way I grew out of wrestling by age 11-12. While I did love my PS2 and it did have the best overall library from the 6th gen, I also found it a bit overrated. Kutaragi overhyped the specs. It at times looked worse than Dreamcast. Emotion Engine, my ass! I didn’t think PlayStation gave us a real Emotion Engine until PS3 and PS4.
Among that six S-tier consoles, the library I can replay over and over is from Super Nintendo as we called it back then. Not (snes which rhymes with mess). And it’s mainly thanks to Super Mario World and 2D fighting games like SF2: Turbo and MK2. The controllers remains one of the best and most comfortable of all-time. This was peak 2D era back in the 4th gen.
While Super NES is the most replayable for me with arguably one of the greatest gaming libraries ever and at least among all Nintendo systems, I actually believe the Switch is Nintendo’s greatest product. The Switch has close to 11,000 games. I don’t know how Nintendo can ever top the Switch? More power doesn’t mean the successor will be better. Look at PS5.
Would having more power also delay AAA titles? Wouldn’t that mean bigger budgets and longer development time? Again, look at the PS5. It’s turning 4 near the end of this year and it feels the 9th gen is a lost generation when it comes to games. The experiences aren’t any different. It’s just prettier graphics and that’s it. Nintendo tends to also have a W-L pattern…
    NES: W
    Super NES: W
    Nintendo 64: L (compared to PS1)
    GameCube: L
    Wii: W
    Wii U: L
    Switch W
I was playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe yesterday, and I started thinking, how the hell is Nintendo going to top that game? I think MK8 is the perfect Mario Kart game. We had Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom separated by 6 years. How different were they from each other? How much improvement did TotK have over BotW? Felt like more of the same. What if Switch 2 is also more of the same?
I will give this to Nintendo, they are the greatest gaming company to ever exist. Now I’m not some Nintendo fanboy who loves everything they do. I’m not into Pokémon or Zelda. I saw a poll from Julien yesterday and Zelda beat Final Fantasy 71% to 29%. I’m on the FF side just like I prefer PSP over DS and Vita over 3DS. But Nintendo knows how to make fun games.
Take the Wii U for example. That’s the worst console ever by Nintendo. But games like Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 did start from there. BotW was originally designed for that system like Twilight Princess was for GameCube. As big of a sales flop Wii U was, it still had a better library than most other consoles.
Here’s another example. You know what’s my favorite console to emulate on the Steam Deck? The Wii! The right touchpad helps! I think Wii is underrated because gamers hated that motion control crap while the GameCube is becoming slightly overrated thanks to 90s babies’ childhood nostalgia for it. The Wii does technically play GCN games. It’s basically GameCube Pro with motion controls. Who knew the Wii would be my favorite console to emulate on the Steam Deck?
I didn’t love the Wii when I had it and it was a launch day Wii. It quickly collected dust after I beat Twilight Princess and I got bored of Wii Sports pretty fast after a week. I see all these CZcamsrs talking about another Chinese handheld and people asking if it can play PS2 and GameCube? Why no mention of the Wii? Dolphin can emulate both. My 10 Wii games on the Steam Deck…
    Donkey Kong Country Returns
    Kirby’s Return to Dreamland
    Klonoa
    Mario Kart Wii
    New Super Mario Bros. Wii
    Sonic Colors
    Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
    Super Mario Galaxy
    Super Mario Galaxy 2
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
I have Muramusa: The Demon Blade on my Vita, so I didn’t download it for my Deck. Muramusa played perfectly on my Z Flip 3 when I had it. Too bad I don’t own a handheld with OLED, but my Z Flip 3 does have OLED, so I may play it there again.
GameCube gave us more Link while Wii gave us more Mario who I prefer. And Twilight Princess remains my favorite Zelda game ever. It’s the only Zelda game I’ve beaten. I do prefer Double Dash over MK Wii although the latter is growing on me since it has way more tracks. I still can’t stand Super Mario Sunshine. The F.L.U.D.D. crap still plays clunky for me.
GCN did have F-Zero GX and my favorite sports game ever: NBA Street Vol. 2. I have the ROM for both GCN and Xbox. The latter was the one I actually owned. The physical copy is somewhere at my dad’s apartment. I tend to play the GCN version more because Dolphin doesn’t drain battery as fast and it’s the far better developed emulator than Xemu. Xemu would make my Deck hot after 15 minutes and then the game would start to lag.
More people should give more love to the Wii. It was ranked higher than the GCN in Linus’ tier. Wii was in A-tier while GCN was in B-tier. GCN only sold 21M and was actually considered a disappointment. Miyamoto said it. But emulation and nostalgia plays a part with revisionist history. It’s like 90s babies loving the SW Prequels and they think Hayden is a great actor. My generation would say, HELL NO! And we’re the same age as Hayden.
If I can include handhelds to put on Linus’ tiers, I would put Steam Deck as S-tier. It can play Super NES, PS1, and PS2 perfectly and all upscaled. It can emulate several more consoles including my favorite F-tier console: Atari Jaguar. It can emulate Switch and has close to the power of the base PS4 and has games like FF7 Remake, God of War (2018), Uncharted 4, MGS5, and so on, and so on.
Julien is correct. You only need Steam and Nintendo to fulfill your gaming needs. And did you hear the recent news coming from Square Enix? They’re trying to break away from their PS5 exclusivity. I hope this speeds up FF7 Rebirth to come to Steam as soon as next year. But I’m hearing from RGT 85 that he didn’t love Rebirth. Shawn said he loved Remake but not Rebirth. He thought Rebirth had too much padding.
    1. Steam Deck
    2. Nintendo Switch
Those are your GOATs and the only handhelds you need in your life. Well, until their successors comes out. I’d include PS Vita but it’s not required. I prefer the PS2 version of FFX and God of War than the Vita ports. GoW on PS2 ran at 60 fps while the Vita is only at 30. You don’t need an Odin 2, Anbernic, or Retroid. Deck and Switch is all you will ever need.
I was almost going to buy a RG405M for only $100 last weekend but decided not to. What’s the point? The 4:3 aspect ratio? The smaller form factor? My Z Flip 3 and Deck can emulate all those systems the Anbernic can do. While the RG405M can’t emulate Xbox and Wii. Those Chinese handhelds have awful resale value being they’re obscure brands. I rarely trust things I buy from AliExpress. I bought hats and tees that didn’t come out right.
I do at times bring my Switch Lite if I know I will use all the battery life from my Deck because I can play FF7 Remake for more than 2 hours in a day. And the Switch Lite is much quicker to charge in my car. How come people trash the Lite so much? It has a real d-pad and I need it for my Genesis and Street Fighter II compilations. I think the Lite is amazing to pack all that power in that smaller size barely longer, taller, and heavier than a Vita.
The reason why I didn’t care for the GBA, DS, and 3DS is I always found them underpowered. It really wasn’t until the Switch when Nintendo finally put more beef in their hardware thanks to Nvidia. I wanted console-like graphics and we didn’t get that from Nintendo until 2017. And Switch actually had L2/R2 triggers that the Vita lacked and two analog sticks. The Joy-Cons did sacrifice the d-pad.
I’m tired of playing old games. Hence, why zero interest with an Odin 2. I want to play AAA games I missed during the last 15+ years and Steam Deck provides that. Forget Super NES, Switch, PS1, PS2, and PS4 as S-tier when Steam Deck surpasses them all as the one to rule them all. It’s the greatest gaming device ever made.

Xenoblade 2, TotK, and I _believe_ Xenoblade 3 are all rough experiences without their day one patches. I guess they're playable, but it's really not much better or worse than the AAs and indies I was talking about on other platforms. AAAs are something I can agree with, though.
And ironically, some AAAs on Switch have the same problem, especially multicarts. I bought Assassin's Creed Rebel Collection thinking it had both games. The Spyro and Crash collections have the same issue. I would've bought those on Switch if not for that. Hogwarts Legacy doesn't even have all of the game on one cart, and they cheaped out with an 8GB cart when a 16GB cart would've been fine. Oh, and there are even first party cases like Mario Strikers, Tennis Aces, and Switch Sports, that had content added later. MK8DX is going to be especially egregious.
Physical media unfortunately just doesn't cut it now.

Sony westernized itself too much, so now Nintendo is the only console company that still feels truly japanese. For that I'm very grateful and while they keep it that way I think I'll always find reasons to go back to Nintendo. I'm happy that more and more people are adopting the deck, despite not being exactly PC gamers. That not only speaks a lot about how well designed the deck is, but also that helps increase the support and game library available on Linux, which is my system of choice.

I told you in your “well Xbox just proved everyone wrong” video that you will soon be making this video….. and you will be making even more of this video once Sony sells PlayStation off to Apple/Tencent/Amazon or Meta!
To answer this video specifically though, you are 66% correct! The future of gaming is Nintendo(for now) , Steam deck and Windows Gaming OS! Xbox and Windows are about to release a Gaming Handheld but most importantly a Gaming OS ! 97% of gaming PCs run on windows but there is not DEDICATED Window OS for gaming ! That’s why the Rog Ally etc aren’t as user friendly as the steam deck! Steam deck has Steam Deck OS/ Big Picture Mode which is why it works like a console! Microsoft/Xbox are going to introduce that in a dedicated handled but also make it available for manufacturers so they have a standard OS for Gaming!

It's sad how Nintendo's conditioned ppl to pay more for old titles, by never offering huge discounts. And ppl accept this, and even think it's somehow good for them. NEWSFLASH: There isn't this infinite demand for Nintendo titles. They do this simply to give their games a FALSE sense of value, and y'all eat it UP! 🤦🏽‍♂️

    • @Gambit2483
      @Gambit2483 Před 2 měsíci +6

Or maybe there's an actual value _because_ people will STILL buy these games years later.
If the value wasn't there, people would not still buy them at that price. Just because Ubisoft (and their customers) don't value their software the same doesn't mean Nintendo (and their customers) should follow suit

    • @iznax9
      @iznax9 Před 2 měsíci +3

      "False sense of value" ok
Let me tell you a story, I got a game for the Switch and paid 60 euro, and 2 years later I sold it and got 50 back, I don't know about your imaginary world, but in the real world this is actual value and ownership

    • @HonestToCritic
      @HonestToCritic Před 2 měsíci +3

@@iznax9 That's still artificial since that value stems from the FACT Nintendo refuses to lower their price across the board, NOT because of demand. It's no different than when Nintendo purposely created shortages for certain products to fuel demand. This is NOT supply and demand, Nintendo Tax is a term thrown around for a reason.

I think it was ridiculous for you to even defend them. This is going to be an issue once the Switch games are not being produced anymore.
