  • So it's the 20th Anniversary of Xbox, and to celebrate, I decided to buy a BRAND NEW SEALED Original Xbox console from eBay! This Xbox console is awesome, and I'm excited to open it up. This one is even a special holiday bundle that came with 3 games. And like I said, this console is SEALED, so I'm the first one to open the Xbox console up. What's your favorite OG Xbox game??

    So amazing to see a brand new one.
    Your very lucky it boots as those old units have a capacitor that's used to keep the real time clock and they are well known to leak and damage the board, I 3 og xbox's and they all have failed capacitors in them, im in the process of cleaning and repairing the damage on the boards.
    Have to admit I nearly cried when you cut the seal on the box.

      It's PAL anyway, so not nearly as valuable as this NTSC unit. Who, in their rightful mind, would prefer 25fps (sometimes with stretched audio, even) over 30? Because of this, the moment you break factory seals on a PAL console, you reduce its value to pocket change.

    Back then, I was into next gen technology like any typical kid, but when the 1st lockdown happened, it hit me. I was filled with nostalgia and I couldn't stop getting into it more and more. So in Thursday 15th October 2020, I got my first PlayStation 1 games, Spyro the Dragon and Gran Turismo 2. A couple months back I went in my loft and got my mother's N64 and Sega Dreamcast. That's when it really kicked in, as it was not working I restored them and boy did they change me. Sure I got emulators like Dolphin, Project64, PS2 etc but this really hit me. I now prefer 1980s- 90s way more than nowadays. You guys got the best consoles. I do have an Xbox 360 so I can play Xbox games luckily.

    I bet that bonus game on the front of the box is a sticker. They just threw that game into an already existing 2 game bundle. It's a lot cheaper for them to add a sticker to the box rather than redoing the artwork for the box. Not to mention they probably had a large amount of the 2 game bundles sitting in a warehouse ready to go.

    I would guess the first thing that may go awry is any battery inside - this would mean the settings may not save, but it might be okay for a while. I'd think if it was a 20 year old version it might have the issue, but you may be okay, as it is a newer version. Just saying.

    Is this the version that does not have that doom clock capacitor anymore? Did you test it to see that your Xbox keeps set time?

  • @flaming_skull
    @flaming_skull Před 2 lety +20

    You might want to remove the time capacitor because it's been known to leak over time on the motherboard

    My first xbox was a 360. Was a PlayStation fanboy until that point. Got to the stage where I realised it doesn't matter what you play. From then on I bought a PS3, 360 and play whatever feels the best for the time.

    Extra lucky, you got a Hitachi drive, which was considered the best DVD drive in the Xbox.

      @santanajohns5816 Před 2 lety +1

      I agree with u. Hitachi drive while it’s a rare drive, it’s generally considered to be the most reliable, I heard many people back in the day they said Samsung Drives are the best, but sadly I have pretty bad experiences with Samsung drives for some reason and can’t find a good working one. For some reason I thought I had better luck with the newer Phillips Drives (2003-2005 ones). I would say the hitachi drives and the Phillips drives had the least chances of failure rate and are pretty reliable DVD drives for the OG Xbox.

    I would recommend removing the clock capacitor if it isn’t a 1.6 model. The capacitor could have already leaked if not it’s only a matter of time before it does and it could ruin the console. I understand if you don’t want it opened but the capacitor is referred to as a ticking time bomb and not an if it leaks but a when it leaks

However about 7 years ago i picked up an original translucent green halo xbox and was able to restore it. Fast forward to now and im replacing its capacitors because they are beginning to rupture. But still an amazing console for its age

    Not sitting 20 years it sat 16 years technically since you got the 2005 model still sweet though and the early models had the red rings so would be risky same with early 360s
